Submissive #12

Top Trouble: A Submissive Series Standalone Novel

Rate this book
Some say they've been arguing for years.
Others say it's just a really long foreplay session.
When Kelly moves from Wilmington, Delaware to Dallas, Texas, Evan regrets all the time they spent arguing and knows he made a mistake in letting her go. A wedding allows them the opportunity to reconnect and they spend a passionate night together. Yet when morning comes Kelly seems further away than ever.

Kelly has her reasons for treating Evan the way she did, not to mention a secret or two she's never shared with anyone. If she hurt Evan, she's sorry but she had no other choice. Besides, they're both Tops, and they'd never be right together.

An unexpected situation forces them back together, and for a couple who's done little else than bicker, the danger they find themselves in might be what they need to finally admit how they feel for each other.

Or it might be what pulls them apart forever.

NEW YORK TIMES/USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Even though she graduated with a degree in science, Tara knew she’d never be happy doing anything other than writing. Specifically, writing love stories.

She started with a racy BDSM story and found she was not quite prepared for the unforeseen impact it would have. Nonetheless, she continued and The Submissive Series novels would go on to be both New York Times and USA Today Bestsellers. One of those, THE MASTER, was a 2017 RITA finalist for Best Erotic Romance.

Now she is focusing on new contemporary romances that allow her the freedom to write and publish on her own schedule.

Spoiler-free review.

When Tara told me she was adding another book to her already amazing, NYT Bestseller Submissive series. I was over the moon. This series is EVERYTHING and more that I love about this genre. It is everything and more I love about romance. I discovered Tara a few years ago and I have been a fan of her work since The Submissive (Book 1) released. It blew me away just how detailed, accurate and addictive this series became to me. So I was devastated when she stopped writing them and branched out to another sub-genre. I'm not saying her other work isn't as good. Because it is and it is flawless... But this series? It holds a special place for me. A series I will continue to go back to and read and the latest book to the series... Well, that was a game-changer. Going back into this world was so easy. . And when I heard it was Kelly and Evans story I was beyond intrigued how the author would write this one out, and it is safe to say she NAILED IT... It was like her older work, but more... She added to it, she tried new things, which I never knew I would enjoy reading as much as the normal D/S relationship. But I shouldn't be surprised... This is her calling it. This is what she does best. She builds an intense, all-consuming plot based around a couple you can't help but fall in love with Kelly and Even had their struggles, both trying to find what level they were at, both being tops and both struggle to give up their controlling streak but as the book progresses.. Things start to shift for the both.. Rolls are reverse and god damn it was extremely hot!

Kelly and Evan are complex, to say the least, and Kelly holds secrets that she doesn't want the world to know... Let alone Evan. But nothing stays secret forever and the chemistry between them just builds as they continue to butt heads, but when their lives are in danger, it pushes these two even closer and sparks fly, leaving them needing, wanting, and craving each other.

And... That's as far as I am going... You need to read this. If you enjoyed her other books in this series, you will enjoy this. It was new, it was refreshing to be back reading this world again and it's made fall even more in love with this author's works. She knows her stuff. She seems to have the knowledge when it comes to this lifestyle, she does not shy away from much AT ALL.. and that doesn't always come along often. It's one of the biggest things I love about her books. I can relate to a lot of them.

What I didn't like? It was too short! I need more... I want more. I want more for this couple but I also want to see more of the secondary characters. Now I am back into this epic world she creates. The only way I will leave it, is kicking and screaming.

This book is standalone so you don't need to read the series in order, although for a better feel of this lifestyle, these characters, and the background. I highly recommend reading book one.

Every time I finish a new book Tara writes, I swear it’s my favorite. Top Trouble is no exception.

When I first read the book’s description and several comments stating how much people were looking forward to these characters’ story, I though I’d gone crazy. I’ve read and re-read all of Tara’s books and consider myself somewhat of an expert on her stories, so when I couldn’t for the life of me remember anything about a relationship between an “Evan and Kelly,” I decided they just weren’t important to me because I probably didn’t like them; whatever, I knew I was going to read it regardless.

Within the first line, it finally hit me: I remember Kelly as only Mistress K, and that’s why I didn’t recall who she was. Even after remembering who Kelly and Evan were, I was reluctant to dive into reading. After four days of considering when to start reading, I started at 3am and finished at 5:30am. Tara has such a way of writing that each set of characters’ stories is so different that they stay interesting and anything can happen. Two pages in and I was already completely in love and invested in Kelly and Evan.

The amount of suspense is perfect, too. When you expect something to happen, it doesn’t; then when you’re not expecting it, BAM! Surprise!

Definitely hoping for a continuation to the series!

I’m a huge fan of This series and this one will keep you on your toes! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read

Evan & Kelly are not strangers, they have known each other for years. They drive each other crazy, but nothing would ever work... why because they are both Tops! So when they give over to a night together and it becomes more, they never knew it would be like this. Developing feeling and devotion like never before.

So, I’m not sure what to rate this. Going into this book, I was initially excited. I do know I was going for a 2/3 star. I was one of those people who was excited to read about Kelly and Evan. I was a fan of their bickering in the books before theirs. But, this one fell flat. First off, there were a lot of grammatical errors, not enough to dnf but enough. Second, as I said before, I was so excited to see Kelly and Evan outside of someone else’s point of view, but theirs wasn’t that exciting. Yes, there were a few moments where I got happy but nothing too crazy. Lastly, I kind of wish they communicated more. This could just be a me problem, but eh. It wasn’t a terrible book by any means, I just expected a lot more considering their build up.

This was really good!
It had been so long since I read the submissive series that I had forgotten how good they were. I definitely recommend reading this series in order if you can, or at least read this one before reading Bucked. The story really builds to the next one with Kiara’s story.
This was definitely a hot erotic read, but it also has a great romance and a bit of suspense to keep things exciting.

Tara Sue Me is one of the best erotic/bdsm authors out there. I love her work plus her submissive series. Its been a while since I read the submissive series so I couldn't remember Kelly and Evan so much. You may read this book as a standalone but you definitely should read this series.

Kelly and Evan are both doms but for some reason Evan can't stop watching mistress K with her subs. Evan never expected Kelly wanting anything to do with him. Little did he know that she was a switch. A switch is one who is comfortable being a dom and submissive. This story was definitely steamy and hot. I can't wait for the next book about Kelly twin who we meet in this book. Kiara has been in abusive relationship and she is in hiding.

Alright .. I admit defeat.. I have been dying to read this author since forever and was finally able to give her some time and really I just don’t think it works for me. I liked the witty sex banter and I think I would have liked the series more if I didn’t just dive into a random novella. It appears Kelly is determined to have Evan and for once would like to not top as she does in all her sex shows. I think if I was more into this series it would be good for BDSM book. I did not link to the characters as much as I wish I had and I lost interest quickly in the story. It was a decent read it just didn’t hold my attention

Author didn't want to write and it shows

Seriously, the end of the book author acknowledges that she didn't want to write this story and it totally shows. It was rushed , under developed story line, and just plain lacked heart. I always preordered this author's material, but unfortunately will not risk it again until the ratings are posted. Too bad you broke my trust! Keep it up and I won't even wait for the ratings, I'll just move on without reading anymore.

I really enjoyed Evan and Kelly’s book.
What happens when a Dom and a Domme have undeniable chemistry? Who tops who? This was a great kink read.

I received an arc of this book.

I love the submissive series, but this one fell flat for me. It seemed rushed from the beginning, oddly it had grammar mistakes, and I did not connect with the characters. Oh well.

Great sexual tension and verbal ping pong

Some tweaks to the storyline and this could have hit it way out of the park. First off Tara’s ability to write characters is brilliant. They are clear and the pictures she created are amazing and so vibrant. It feels like you are being drawn into the story at times and lost inside her books. Evan and Kelly were fun and their combative sexual tension and verbal ping pong was entertaining. The heat and chemistry was steamy. What needed to be fixed, my same issue as the previous reviews - although so much better in this book, she still cut off a few sex scenes at the end. Let them end to fruition. If he’s getting a BJ, I want to enjoy the outcome as well as the experience, not all the sudden be at the next day. Also, the drama needs to be more authentic. If you are going to do a kidnapping, I need to feel a real sense of panic that she is gone, not find a clue immediately after. Also, it’s a bit unrealistic that these particular parties wouldn’t know who hired them and also not speak up to get a lighter sentence!

I’m a big fan of Tara Sue Me as an author. Her first three books in the Submissive series were stellar.

This book was just so-so. Although the premise for the story is good, it just didn’t hang together for me; either the characters or the plot. I didn’t think any of the characters really connected, and I didn’t get a warm feeling from any of them. The plot was hooky and the sex was pretty perfunctory. I thought the set-up for the Demo was ridiculous.

I can say that this book was better than the follow-on book - Bucked. I didn’t finish it.

My feeling is this author is pumping out books too quickly. Tara Sue Me is a really good author. Perhaps it’s time to step back, recalibrate, and find some characters she really likes, with a story she wants to write about. The author knows how to bring interesting characters and relationships to life. I hope she finds that again.

Yes,I'm so happy that Kelly and Evan finally had their own book. First things first I thought it would go into detail why they didn't get along, if I recall it had to do with Evan being in a relationship and them flirting ? But other than that it was good I just wished they went more into detail about the whole switch situation. There's so many books in this series about male Doms (which I love)- the insight of a regular Dom (M) and Sub (F) relationship, the Sadist (M) and masochist (F), and also a 24/7 Master (M) and Slave (F) relationship but the one book with a switch in both female and male, I would've loved to read about it !! It's a little different from the series but I loved the fact that we're seeing a Male Dom bottom and how his point of view. Other than that I can't wait for the next book !

I was so happy to find a book that put Evan and Kelly finally together. I've read the entire series and their back and forth banter throughout the books was a perfect setup. They absolutely have great chemistry and I enjoyed the story for the most part. My only criticism would be the ranch sequence. I can't go into more detail without spoilers. I will say this portion didn't have the same draw as the rest of the book. It was a bit far-fetched and kind of boring. But then I see it was most likely set up for Kiara's story. It really didn't do much to pull me in. Other than that, it was an entertaining read.

Get your fire extinguisher ready. Top Trouble was Hot and Delicious! Evan and Kelly are both strong and well developed characters, tempting readers to stay up far to late to finish. Steamy sex scenes, as well as danger will get your heart racing and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Tara Sue Me brings it in her latest novel, with emotionally charged moments, filled with white hot intimacy.

I received a early copy in exchange for a honest opinion.

Top Trouble

Evan and Kelly have spent the last six years barking insults at each other. whether they were at a BDSM meeting or a play party, the snarky comments just kept coming. When Kelly gets a job offer to move back to her home town Dallas, she takes it and that's when Evan decides he can't let her leave without telling her how he really feels, but can two tops make it work?

18+ This was such an unpredicted standalone in the submissive series. It was different from the rest. I’m glad I decided to read it. Top Trouble Follows mistress K aka Kelly and master Martin aka Evan, they’re both sexy asf and won’t fail to bring you pleasure while reading😩 their backstory is literally enemies to lovers baby💦🥵 This book is worth your while and worth your time. Read the warnings and read with your own risk ;)

DNF at 6%.

Same with the other series I've followed, I'm saying goodbye to this one too.

I'm maxed out with these BDSM plots. It's time to bury these books in my shelf and out of reach forever. LOL.

•••••••

REVIEW: 3.25 stars-- TOP TROUBLE by Tara Sue Me is a contemporary, adult, erotic, BDSM, romance stand alone story focusing on Domme/switch / police officer Kelly Bowman, and Dom / history teacher Evan Martin.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Kelly and Evan) TOP TROUBLE follows the acrimonious relationship between Domme/switch / police officer Kelly Bowman, and Dom / history teacher Evan Martin. For months Evan Martin has wanted to ‘play’ with the Partner’s Group Domme Kelly Bowman but Kelly wasn’t having anything to do with what Evan was willing to offer. A mutual friend’s wedding, a drunken night together, and Kelly’s move from Delaware to Texas found Evan wondering where it had all gone wrong. One more wedding, and another night together found Kelly pushing Evan out of her life a push she regrets more than she could have imagined. But when her sister Kiara’s life is threatened, Kelly takes control, and follows her sister to a ‘destination ranch’ where she will, once again come face to face with Evan Martin. What ensues is the building relationship between Kelly and Evan, and the threats to Kiara’s life come to fruition forcing Kelly and Evan to work together.

The relationship between Kelly and Evan is one of immediate attraction but Kelly denies any interest in our story line hero. Strong willed and ‘dominate’, Kelly is also a switch and therefore sends mixed signals at every opportunity. Evan Martin is a Dom at The Partner’s Group but he is willing to submit to Kelly Bowman, in an effort to get closer to the woman that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense with scenes of bondage, spanking, anal play, domination and submission.

We are introduced to Kelly’s sister Kiara, as well as the return of several previous story line characters.

TOP TROUBLE is a quick read; a story of rejection and denial; of family and friendship; of power and control. The premise is engaging; the romance is steamy but as with similar stories the $ex takes precedence; the characters are energetic. If you like your BDSM and erotic story lines with a little bit of suspense, give TOP TROUBLE a try.

Seri New York'ta başlamıştı. Seduced by Fire ile birlikte Wilmington, Delaware'e taşındı.

4 1/2 STARS!

TOP TROUBLE is the next book in Tara Sue Me's beloved Sumissive Series, and centers around two dominant personalities finally succumb to their temptations in this enemies to lovers story.

I always love a return visit to this series because we always get a great update on all of the previous couples we loved and this was no exception. It's like visiting old friends to reach for this book.

Kelly was particularly interesting from the start because even though she's dominant and outspoken in public, she has secrets she doesn't let be known by just everybody. Letting the walls down to let Evan in was difficult for her ... but the reward eventually made it worth it!

Evan is a fun character. He brings sass and humor to the table, but flirts with a sternness at times that really brings him to life. Really enjoyed watching them let their guard down and live a little.

I highly recommend this story to anyone wanting a fun-filled, light-hearted delve into the BDSM world with a cast of characters that are tight-knit and always like family. The characters are well developed and the passion is always steamy. Always a pleasure, and I always leave looking forward to that next book!

Kelly and Even have known each other for a while and are part of the Partners BDSM group but they are both Tops so they haven’t interacted with each other ,in fact they tease each other terribly. When Evan finds out she is leaving he is sorry he never tried with her but maybe before she leaves.
Kelly is home and her sister Kiara was dating a guy who was in jail for animal abuse but he is out now so Kelly is determined to keep her safe. When Kiara gets a job on a ranch thats a bit away Kelly decides to go with her at first but she runs smack into Evan. As Kelly and Evan make up for lost time someone steals her sister and if they don’t get her back Evan and Kelly may never get a chance to be together. I loved them together fighting or not they make a perfect pair.

Dominant v Domme

This BDSM novel excitedly, though unusual, features two characters who are both tops. And they have always been antagonistic towards each. So expect sparks to fly.

Evan Martin is an experienced Dominant and is presently viewing Kelly Bowman, an experienced Domme with a male submissive at her feet. And he is jealous.

Then Evan hears that Kelly is moving to Texas and suddenly realises that he my have missed the opportunity to get to know her better. Could he be smitten? Then when Kelly gets drunk at her going away party, Evan, to everyone's surprise offers to take her home. There, he refuses her advances. Why?

When two months later, Evan and Kelly eventually have an enthralling night together, Kelly leaves him with unexpected ugly and hurtful remarks. But why? I recommend you get this book and find out...

This is the story of Evan & Kelly.  This is a great story.  They have always have banter between them, but find out they attracted to each other and lost a lot time together.  Could they make it work both being Tops?  You have to read it to find out.  I give no spoilers away.  There is also quite a bit of action in this story concerning Kelly's sister, Kiara.  I had to finish this book in one sitting, it was so good.  This whole Submission Series, in my opinion, is the best BDSM Series out there.  It explains thoroughly the lifestyle.  I look forward to the next book.  Thank you Tara Sue Me for writing this series.
