Mortal Heat #3

Dying Star

Rate this book
Sometimes, the calm facade of a society hides a deadly secret.

Emily’s surprising pregnancy calmed the threat of battle in the Austrian enclave, but it didn’t end the war. Events that began centuries before the Vimpiri abandoned their home come to light, and reveal a plot that has nothing to do with humanity.

Mick says he’s ready to pair for eternity, but his continued hesitation makes me question his commitment to me. Now, with a possible rival on the scene, I’m craving his bite more than ever. Even if I have to take matters into my own hands, I’ll get his fangs in me soon.

Escalating tensions lead to battles, heartache, and shocking revelations centuries in the making. Don’t miss the epic finale of the Mortal Heat series, Dying Star!

Mortal Heat is a fresh take on the legend of vampires.

Hi! I'm Laurel, I love all things fantasy, magic, and sci-fi, so you may find that my books have surprising twists that you didn't see coming.

I'm an avid traveller and adventurer, and I find my travels inspire stories I want to write! I have an amazing daughter and we currently live in the shadows of the Smoky Mountains. I love a good craft cocktail, sunny beaches and snowy slopes, and a cozy chair with a nearby fireplace for the perfect read.

You done it. You made these three books a outstanding series. I loved all the books. You kept me so interested I read them in two days. You created great characters. I loved how you made all the females in these books powerful and intriguing. Great writing.

A nicely satisfying conclusion to the series. I was worried we would be seeing some tropes as far as the love triangle that was hinted at in the blurb. I was very pleased it didn't go that way. There was a lot less emotional anguish for Mick and Lucy in this one, at least for me. This part of their story came to an end happily though it feels like they're will be many more trials for the two in the future.

Action, Romance, Fun…. and Vimpiri

Laurel Night’s „Dying Star” (The Mortal Heat Series Vol.3) continues the story of Lucy and Mick, who while quite confident that their bond will be successful, are still reluctant to take the next step. As Mick’s mother calls them to Austria due to some new developments, all havoc breaks loose! What follows is not-stop action, with fully unexpected twists, that keeps the reader turning pages in a frenzy just to know what comes next….

The characters feel real with beautiful qualities and very believable flaws, and while the story is full of action and mayhem, secrets intrigues, shocking situations and personal distrust the overall mood is entertaining and funny. Some scenes are just hilarious and will keep you laughing until your eyes water, some other “eye watering “ may occur for different reasons, and throughout the whole story the reader feels front and center, right in the middle of the action, wondering if maybe… Vimpire are indeed real 😊. Very nicely done!

Laurel Night’s‘ vampire/aliens hybrids are original fully-fledged characters, funny to the point of whimsical and always a great entertainment for both young adults and more mature readers. Her writing style and great choice of locations make this series a must read for all urban fantasy adepts out there 😉.

Dying Star, the third book in the Mortal Heat series is amazing, it’s so wonderful that I couldn’t stop reading until I finished. Even though I’d read the first two books in the series I didn’t expect a lot of what happens in this one, I was laughing so much in some parts I had tears in my eyes and in others I cried, it just sucked me in and then spat me out at the end and I was shocked that the story was finished, now I want more I want the series to continue . I voluntarily reviewed this book and I recommend this series to teens and up, it’s a really unique, enjoyable, funny story.

This book is an amazing conclusion to the series!! The story and characters were well developed. It was very well written and I loved the continuity of characters through the books. I love the individual character personalities and seeing their individual relationships develop and evolve through the books. The story was action packed and full of twists and turns. It had suspense, intrigue, emotion, hot chemistry and romance. I’d highly recommend this book and the series as a whole!! It’s an excellent read!!

I received an arc for a voluntary review.

Lucy and Mick find themselves together looking at the future

Lucy and Mick have waited to bond/pair until his mother, the queen, had given permission. Now it appeared that she was in for much more than just pairing with a prince. She never understood that meant she, would become a princess too....the characters are fun and interesting, and you bond with them quickly, letting them pull you into their story. When you Come up for air, it's often to muse about the possibilities of such an actual thing like this happening. If was very immensely enjoyed, thank you.

Great conclusion to a very unique take on a "vampire" series. Lots of action in this last book. A little heartache also. These books were just plain fun to read. I liked the characters, especially Lucy and Mick. Emily and Todd were a close second. I didn't know what to think of Nabari at first but she became a great character in the end too. The take down of the two villians, so to speak, was a little anticlimactic for me but fit the story well. Good
Si-fi read!

What an epic conclusion to this awesome series! Once again I found myself lost in the story, totally sucked into this world of suspense, mystery, romance and intrigue. It’s fast paced, action packed, full of twists and turns and emotions and such fun to read that at times I found myself laughing hard and other times I cried! This unique take on vampires has been an absolute pleasure to read and is a must for any urban fantasy / paranormal fan!

A HEA Ending to the Series!

The political intrigue and romance continues in the last book of the Mortal Heat series! We finally find out if Mick and Lucy pair, what’s headed towards Earth, and where Jakob’s loyalties lie. There’s a few unexpected events that left me sad, but the ending was happy with no cliffhanger!

God! I'm at a loss for words here! What can I say for such a gem? I loved everything and anything about this book and the whole series. An amazing and original take on vampires, plenty of suspense and unexpected plot twists, and a love story that had me wishing for a Vimpiri of my own :sigh: One of the best series I've read recently, and one I'll definitely binge-read now that it's finished!!!

Ohhh my! Finally!!! The ship that lands bring in so much more than expected. Valen accusing the Queen of destroying and killing their star and people. Lucy still trying to get Mick to mate, which he finally comes to his senses. But the discovery of what really happened to their star and the mad men behind it. But the ending!!! Ohh I hope we get more books from this universe!

fantastic!!!

Wow, I didn’t expect to enjoy this series as much as I have, I didn’t think I would enjoy alien/human stories but as with all the books by L J Night/Laurel Night I should have known that the quality of her penmanship and her imagination would of course be excellent.
