What’s the scariest thing that can happen on Halloween? Murder.
Ruby Holmes is plenty excited to serve her cakes and goodies to the many trick-or-treaters in Carmel Springs, Maine. Halloween is here. Costumes range from fearsome to the funny, and when Ruby sees a clown jostling with a vampire to get to her cakes, she doesn’t think anything of it.
That is, until the corpse of the ‘vampire’ washes up on the beach, right in front of her food truck. Ruby’s not going to let this mystery go unsolved, even if it means annoying the local detective and the murderer themselves.
Can Ruby discover the identity of the killer clown? Or will he get the last laugh?

Sorry but this really lacked something. Not sure what as ever plot was well thought out and well constructed but it just seemed to lack the sparkle of the previous books. Halloween ends up as a nightmare for our two sleuths, not only has a body washed up near them but the detective is trying to get under their skin. Who is stealing all the decorations and why? With the competition on for the best show the Inn keeper is devastated when hers are taken. Can our two fix things with just their skill and wits? Throw in a thief, an arrest, the flu and a clue. Will they manage to stop the killer?
Another fun quick read from Point especially if you're not quite ready to let Halloween go. By throwing in murder in the midst of spooky parties, a decoration contest, festivities and costumes that span a entire weekend, it seems like overkill (pun intended). Dropped 1/2 a star for too many grammatical/spelling errors that became distracting.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A fun murder mystery set during the week of Halloween. This was a quick read but it had a few grammatical errors and typos that were distracting. I’d give it 3.5 stars otherwise.
This was really a fun and festive Halloween read! I loved how the town celebrated for the whole Halloween weekend--a haunted house, parties, vendors and lots of great food...including a cookie that was just to die for! Bad pun, but one of the women fighting over a cookie ended up dead. Even though Ruby and Bee hadn't found a body this time, Ruby still felt strangely compelled to investigate, and as usual, she did solve the murder much to Det. Jones' disappointment. It'll be interesting to see what Christmas brings in this small seaside town!
A new character named Shawn was introduced. I won't spoil what his role was, but I was happy to see that Millie the newspaper editor was back from the previous book.
Murder is always creepy but when it's Halloween it seems especially creepy. As usual Detective Jones seems determined to pin everything on Ruby & Bee. They just got the bakery truck up and running from the last case and if they don't want him shutting them down again they will have to hurry and solve this case.
This is a good series. I really enjoy reading the books and I kind of hope that Ruby and Bee don't decide to take their truck on down the road to another small town.
Ruby and Bee are a very different pair who run a food truck together. They have become friends and find themselves involved in solving murders. The Detectives are not too excited that they are underfoot! This was an entertaining book. Hare to figure out the murderer. It was a surprise. Rosie is one of my favorite authors and she never disappoints! Can’t wait to get on to the nex Ruby and Bee shenanigans!❤️
Ruby and Bee are such a fun pair! Their reasons for traveling the country in a bakery truck are obscure (and in Ruby's case, maybe a bit foolish), but they are certainly finding plenty of adventure in Maine. Finding the solution to yet another murder in Carmel Springs is hampered by the usual arrogant incompetence of Jones as well as the murky motivations surrounding the crime. This is a light cozy read, fine for lovers of the genre.
Town center is filled with booths, in the spirit of .Halloween, most came in costume. The lines to get cake and cookies doesn’t seem to stop. The clown and vampire something is off. Especially when the vampire washes up from the ocean later that evening. These are good flowing plot, and one likes the main characters.
Interesting mystery with definite twist and a surprise ending at least for me. Two friends own and operate a sweets food truck traveling place to place. They have stayed in this town long enough to establish friendships which can be strained when murder is involved.
This is the 3rd book in the series and the first time reading this author. The main characters are Ruby and Bee. They run a food truck in Maine. They are part of the Halloween celebration in town and the day after Halloween there is a dead body found on the beach. Ruby and Bee start to investigate when Bee ends up sick. Ruby must figure things out for herself before it is too late.
I have never wanted to read a full series so bad in my life. These books are so fun, quick and easy to read, I managed to start and finish these story in just a few hours. This is the third book in the series and I read it during the perfect time for the Halloween festive season. So excited to continue Ruby and Bee's adventure!
Ruby and Bee are still in Carmel Springs and Halloween is coming. They join in the town festivities by baking Halloween themed cookies and cupcakes. Business is booming until another victim is found on the beach dressed in a Halloween costume. A great fun read.
While not the best audiobook I’ve listened to, I’ve been enjoying a lot of cozy mysteries lately as a way to relieve stress and be entertained while driving or doing routine tasks at work. The storyline was simple, characters likable and relatively short. I’m now listening to the next book in the series.
A dead clown dressed in full costume gets washed up on shore during the Halloween Celebration Week in Carmel Springs. The two bakers find them selves once again in the midst of solving the crime. A well written well plotted fast read
The town is in the midst of its multi day Halloween celebration. The desert truck is doing well and the girls are enjoying the guest house. Then there is a murder with no clear suspect some fun twists and turns with a surprise ending.
Creepy Cake Murder got me in the mood for baking, Halloween, and all things Autumn (too bad I have to wait 5 more months haha). I definitely was surprised at multiple twists and turns and the ending was beyond wonderful! I'm so hooked now I'm starting the next one right after I submit this review.
Love this series - recommend if you are looking for a Halloween themed who dun it. Bee and Ruby are on the case and stumbling into situations on their quest for the truth.
Another good entry in the bite-sized bakery series of books. Halloween comes to Maine with a week long celebration and of course murder as well. Looking forward to the next adventure for the food truck ladies!
meh, these stories are cute but not really long enough to be more than a short story, not a book. I just start to get a handle on what's going on and it's over.
