Covering a wide range of topics and referencing a world of fascinating research, Simon managed to stay 'lean' in his writing, distilling the wealth of knowledge and experience in easy to digest, ready to use "Hacks". I was also intrigued by his insights into the emotional aspect of negotiations. Concepts like empathy and likeability are rarely covered in a formal training, yet are critical to your success in any negotiation. I win this book as a Goodreads giveaway. I've read many a business book where the author spent half the book trying to convince me that what I was about to learn was important. Presuming that I bought the book because I already valued the information it might contain, I find these chapters of little value. This book jumped right into the key elements right away which suits my personality perfectly. The hacks described touch the surface and give the reader references to delve deeper if desired. This is a good starter for someone looking for negotiation tactics.
I was lucky in that I not only read the book but also heard Simon speak about negotiation hacks and both experiences were extremely insightful. A group of executive MBA students were enthralled and many subsequently sought him out for more speaking gigs. He lays out the concepts, their history abs significance and impact to a negotiation in an easy to understand and crisp manner. Definitely worth reading!
It’s concise yet informative, interesting and compelling. A simple to read, easy to follow and very pointed description of various ideas and concepts that genuinely work. It’s summarises some of the best theories and philosophies out there and is a great read for anyone in a commercial role or position
I rec'd Negotiation Hacks as part of a Kindle giveaway. Much of what Rycraft explains most of us already know. The premise of the book is meet the person where they are; showing empathy towards the other party is key; and know when to walk away.
This didn’t seem as in depth as I had hoped. Compared to some of the other negotiation books this seems to fall a bit flat. That being said, you should expect that when you read a title suggesting that you’re reading hacks.
Negotiation Hacks does a great job of summarizing key negotiation tactics for practitioners in any area of negotiation. Negotiation Hacks covers non-verbal communication, negotiation theory and style, understanding your counterparty, and planning. I would recommend Negotiation Hacks to anyone!
A very short book tells us about the how-tos of negotiation with minimal examples. Enough methods to give anyone who doesn't know about this topic a try.
