The Preying Pastor

Rate this book
“She needed to be careful, for if you walk with the prey… you eventually become the prey.”

Dallas Carver-Monroe has managed to live with a fairytale façade for the past ten years. Growing up in a religiously strict home caused Dallas to do whatever it took to please her parents – even if that meant marrying her high school sweetheart, Seth, right after they graduated. Dallas and Seth had a genuine connection, but she didn’t think he was the man she was supposed to spend her life with. Still, she married him to make sure they didn’t have sex and start a family without making vows before God.

After almost twelve years of hell on earth, Dallas is tired of the happily married First Lady façade that has been forced upon her. Just when she thinks she’s about to break free, tragedy strikes, and Seth’s evil deeds and enemies become her own. Silver lining? Ra Jake.

When Ra Jake returns home, he has only two priorities – fix things with his ex, Cree, and successfully protect the Pastor’s wife. Under different circumstances, Ra would have turned down the job. Losing his last client has caused pain to plague Ra in a way that he never thought was possible. Had it not been for a favor being owed to an old friend, Ra would have never taken on the responsibility of guarding another human being’s life.

Upon first meeting, Dallas and Ra would rather be anywhere than with each other. As time progresses, they create a genuine bond so deep it’s hard for anyone, Seth and Cree included, to be able to reach. But the old saying is… all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, this rings true for Dallas and Ra, and they will have to fight for their hearts and their lives before Seth’s horrible decisions rob them of both.

Seth was definitely what the title implied. Realistic storyline and dramatic characters kept the pages turning as this was a great read that I encourage all to check out

Although this story is about a pastor, it is definitely not Christian Fiction, but an amazing read none the less. There was all kinds of drama that kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn't wait to see what happens next. This was my first book I believe from this author, but I'm sure it won't be my last.

Dallas and Seth were childhood friends who both grew up in a stick religious home. Seth and Dallas were forced to marry right after high school. Dallas could not live out dreams because she wanted to please her parents. Seth was able to attend seminary school, while Dallas was expected to train to be the First Lady. Dallas became tired of living a fake life with Seth and wanted out of the marriage due to Seth’s bad deeds.
Ra was a young man who owed several security agencies. Ra returned home to make things right with Cree. Ra was having a hard time due to one of his clients getting killed on his watch. Upon returning home Cree did not want to be with Ra, due to the secret that she was hiding; a child. Ra took a job to protect Dallas. Ra and Dallas connected while he was protecting her, and they started to develop feelings for one another. This book is filled with drama, healing, and forgiveness. Awesome read.

That dang pastor 🤦🏽‍♀️

This book details things that happen in ministry, every day. A doting wife, playing the part of “First Lady,” out of obligation and not love. Child, beat his tail and move on, for your peace of mind.

In my feelings

Praying Pastor was an understatement. Old dude was just plain out of control and I felt like his repentance would be a dollar late. I was so happy Ra came along to soften the blow.

Lies, lies and more lies

Whew Chile.....where do I even start. Dallas was loyal to a fault and that loyalty and trust in her parents led her to lead a life that she didn't want. Seth her husband of 12 years knew that Dallas deserved more than he had been offering her, but instead of stepping up and changing his ways. He chose his vices and preyed on women just because he could. He constantly abused his power to the point where his life was literally out of control. Ra (which immediately made me think of rhe sun) enters this mess to protect Dallas since Seth's foolery has endangered her. Ra was literally like the sun, he brought light to everything he touched. I was about through with Dallas...I was tired of this pull she had towards Seth. He was literally a habitual liar, gambler, cheat...you name it he was doing it. His actions were so selfish and she just kept falling for his bs. I felt like Ra deserved more, he was so sweet, protective, nurturing and sexy... like what more do you want Dallas?? I get it years put in, but that doesn't excuse all the disrespect Seth consistently showed. It was like she couldn't fully let him go, even though Ra consistently showed up for her and her kids. Sis had me on edge. The family dynamics were dominating and the author did a good job relaying that message because I was sick of them. I was so glad when they finally started standing up to them. I was fully engaged and truly enjoyed these characters.

LOVED IT

This story was something else but oh so good. Very well written and great character development. Seth was the true definition of a Preying Pastor with his manipulative ways towards women. This book was filled with lies, deceit, infidelity and addiction. Dallas was a woman who loved hard and from the heart. She was so committed to Seth and their union of marriage that she put her needs and wants to the side. But as more secrets are revealed Dallas knew it was time to get her peace back and live for herself and her children. Ra was the perfect form of peace and protection that Dallas needed. I loved how attentive and caring he was to her needs as well as the children even if it started out as a job. I was happy that Seth was able to let Dallas go and accept the error of his ways not only to Dallas but to Cree and Denetra. In this book you get to read how not all "saints" are good because somewhere behind closed doors they are "sinners" as well. Overall a good read that I highly recommend.

Good story exasperating heroine

B Love knows how to weave a tale and this one involving the church was a juicy mess. Whew Seth was something else! And yet I appreciated seeing his growth. I enjoyed the story but I confess I really didn’t like Dallas. It felt like she had flashes of self awareness but that’s all they were, flashes. She would occasionally acknowledge her role in things but then go back to playing victim - I LOVED when Ra called her out. Her back and forth with Seth once Ra was in the picture was irritating but also indicative of the reality that she jumped from one serious long-term relationship to the next without a second to breathe or get to know herself. Candidly I felt like Seth experienced more growth and change than she did (and I don’t think that was the intention). I didn’t find myself rooting for her as much as I was shaking my head in annoyance at what seemed like one stupid decision after another.

So so good

Now Imma need a man like Ra. This was so real, and true I enjoyed it immensely. I loved the characters the author created and how it started and how it developed and how it ended. Ra was the boss and I enjoyed the role he played and how he himself grew. There was a lot of growth for many of the characters and I am truly happy I read this.

This book was a good read. It was interesting to see how both couples were intertwined. Seth was completely horrible in the beginning however it was good to see that he came to his senses and decided to make things right.

Ra

Loved Ra as a man once Seth was out of the picture. Dallas kinda got on my nerves going back to Seth when she had Ra. Seth was a preying man and got what he deserved.

Great

B. Love, such A great story of love, redemption and growth. Dallas is like so many women that stay in a situation just to have a facade. So glad you also showed how "church people" or Christians act when they preach the word but not live the word. So glad to have a new author to read. Thank you

A couple of weeks ago I read B. Love’s My Love Wasn’t Meant for You and fell in love with this new-to-me author. She has written several books, for some reason I’ve just started reading her work. I was so excited to see that she had a new book coming out so soon.

The Preying Pastor opens in Atlanta where we meet Ra. Ra just opened his third security firm, however; after losing a client he has sworn off guarding anyone himself. Realizing that going back to Memphis to get back with his ex is the only thing that will make him happy; he moves back only to realize that he wasn’t the problem in their relationship after all.

Next, you have Seth. He is a minister in his father’s church; only he does everything that you wouldn’t expect from a minister; from selling drugs in the church to manipulating women into sleeping with him. He is set to take over the church after his father retires; he is doing everything in his power to make sure that happens.

Dallas is tired of Seth’s mess and ready to move on with her life without him. Seth has now placed Dallas in danger; to protect her he hires Ra to become her bodyguard. She despises the fact that she must have Ra around all time. The qualities that she is searching for in a mate she is beginning to notice in Ra. For so long she has been putting her dreams on the back burner; living up to everyone else’s expectations has made her resentful. Desiring to be free to live her life the way she chooses; she decided to take matters into her own hands to be free of Seth.

I enjoyed watching how all three of their lives merged; how they needed each other to move forward. Seeing Ra find love again and Dallas learning how to feel fulfilled in her life is heartwarming. Wondering if Seth can get his life right; kept me reading well into the night. I couldn’t put this book down.

The Preying Pastor is everything! It isn’t long but it is full of memorable moments. It is gripping and makes you want to continue to turn the page to find out what will happen next. Each part of the story is engrossing, moving and will completely suck you into this book. It has me excited to dive into B. Love’s backlist and her future releases. She is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

A Hot Mess of a Love Story

This may have been a hot mess of a Love Story but it was so good! Sad about Seth but, he had to make things right in the end. And though loyal to a fault Dallas almost lost her life too. And where would that have left their children. Glad it worked out. And Ra Jake true alpha male. Timing is everything: time spent, not enough time, running out of time and being on time. I noticed in this book All the women were soooo naïve.

Captivating & Suspenseful

Listen, I cannot even describe how I'm feeling at this moment. All while reading this book I had a lot to say. Now that I am finished I'm in awe and speechless. THIS👏🏾 BOOK 👏🏾 IS👏🏾 SO👏🏾 GOOD!!!!!👏🏾 I mean I literally couldn't put it down. I was hooked from the first page. When I tell you that the development of these characters were on point that is a fact! What made this book so interesting was that you could identify each character separately while keeping the flow of the story. It blended perfectly. It was suspenseful, edgy, romantic, funny and tasteful. It had the right amount of flavor to it. B. Love went into beast mode while writing this book. She must've locked herself away in a vault because this one here is a gem. It's another classic. I never thought I would see the day when my Rule would have some competition. You did that chick. You did that!

AMAZING 👏🏾👏🏾

Just wowwwwwww, I'm so amazed at the chain of events that happened in this story to where it literally has me speechless. The title fit exactly what Seth was and he absolutely was a preying pastor, using his position to have his way with people. I loved Dallas love and loyalty but only to a default and when it was benefiting her, Seth knew this and prayed on it. My feeling towards him is wishy washy because the beginning I couldn't stand him and was ready for whatever to happen to him come and soon but towards the end when he really set back and analyze what and how he was moving throughout life and the people he hurt and for him to at least try to correct his wrong doing was good in my book. Ra was BAE and I love how he catered to Dallas and loved on her and her children. Cree was just lost and so confused I really don't have much to say about her. Overall this was an amazing read and I will definitely be recommending it

LOVED IT!!!!

My girl B love never disappoints. The fact that this book could really be a story about someone's life right now in this moment was crazy. It wasn't over the top or something that had you shaking your head like "yeah right". Ra and Dallas love is a love like no other and is something every man and woman should feel in their lifetime. I hate that Dallas had to deal with everything with Seth, but she had to in order to see and know real love. Now Cree needs to have her behind kicked all over Memphis for what she did and how she treated Ra. Thank you B Love for gracing us with your excellent ability to capture us on a book so well that you actually can see and feel like you actually know the characters. Keep up for as long as you can and I will forever be your biggest fan!!!

This was one of the deepest emotional stories I have read all year!!

I originally wasn't interested in reading this story because it wasn't speaking to me like most synopsis speak to me. I was completely wrong!! This book was so needed. I can completely connect with Dallas in so many ways and I believe readers will do so as well. I loved the spiritual aspects of the story being heavily intertwined without sounding extremely preachy. There were some many themes and issues of our community and world that were touched on that it's hard to choose just one to dwell on. This story was beautifully written where you cannot help but learn and gain something from the outcomes of the three main characters, Ra, Seth, and Dallas. I so needed this story in more ways than one!! Thank you B. Love. I think you will save someone from themselves and their situation with this one!!

Good God unconditional!!

All can say is wow B. Love you've out done yourself. I don't know where to begin with the feelings of his this book made me feel from start to end you captivated my mind this book make you warm and cozy one moment and out of your elements the next. The characters came alive in my mind I felt Dallas pain and willingness I could at one point sympathize with Seth and lawd Ra was so raw and protective his straight talk was calming. I'm blabbing this book is that good I highly recommend everyone to read this is that feel good book that will have you all warm inside out when you're done reading. I'm not sure is you read these comments but great job to you B. Love.

Absolutely Amazing

Dallas deserved every bit of happiness and love that she received from Ra after everything Seth put her through. Seth should be thankful that she still loved and respected him as a friend and still tried to help protect him and his image after the way he treated and disrespected her. Seth was definitely a manipulator that preyed on weak minded women. His habits were out of control and ended up costing him his life, which was sad. Ra came back to try to love one woman and only helping himself & Dallas heal and fall in love. This was an outstanding read and a job well done! Can't wait for the next book!
