This has been a tough month for me. With everything going on in our country these days, reading a good book should be first and foremost on my "need to do to relax list." Yes, I do have a list like that. However, since I haven't been feeling well, it has been difficult to read. My focus and comprehension seemed to have taken a vacation and as a result, it‘s taking me days instead of hours to finish a book. Even though I'm feeling better each day, it has been difficult getting back to routine. I couldn't have been happier when I tapped to the last page on my Kindle last night. Scoring Position was an easy read. The pace was smooth, the characters were all likable. And while the main H/h were complex individuals, this book did not have an overabundance of angst. So, for me, it was a smooth, enjoyable read about second chance romance.
Wes and Emma had a past. They were college sweethearts and could have easily taken their relationship to permanency. However, they had different goals so Emma thought it would be best to break up before their hearts were too involved. BOTH their hearts were already involved. Unfortunately, at that time in their lives, they didn't fight to stay together. But now, years later, they will get a second chance. Unfortunately, the same issues are prevalent that broke them up the first time.
Since this book is not very long, and has a steady reading pace, you should read it on your own to find out what happens. I'll admit, as Wes and Emma tried to navigate a new relationship, I really worried how this book would end. Sacrifices would be needed and it didn't seem like either would make any. At times, I felt both Wes and Emma were a bit selfish and that frustrated me. But the more I became engaged in the story; I found myself rooting for them both. In the end, Wes and Emma did not let me down. The book ended perfectly for me. I'm very glad I got to read this.
One more thing.....Scoring Position is book three in the Texas Playmakers series. I did not read the first two books but that made no difference, being this could be easily read as a standalone; I had no trouble enjoying it. As soon as I catch up with life, I will definitely be going back to read the first two books. I recommend this to anyone who loves romance, likable characters, and second chances.
This is my honest and unbiased review; thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
When Wes was back in Last Stand so he and his brothers could figure out what to do with Rough Hollow Farm once they went to Spring training, he found out his ex, Emma was dating her way through all the bachelors in town, looking for someone to settle down with. He wanted it to be him. Just because Emma didn’t want to hold him back from his career and let him go 6 years ago, doesn't mean he ever stopped loving her. Asking to be put on her dating roster, he's determined to make her see they should be together.
I liked how Wes was willing to take a risk and try to win Emma back, even though he could get shot down. I wasn't crazy about Emma's dating plan, trying to find a man so she could stay in town. But I understood why she wanted to stay put since, as a child, she had to travel all over the U.S. with her mother. She'd had enough travelling. Wes's childhood was completely different, coming from a tight-knit family.
I liked the way things turned out in this book. I never would have guessed the outcome.
“Scoring Position” is book 3 of Joanne Rock’s Texas Playmakers series and features Wes Ramsey and Emma Garcia.
Wes is in Last Stand to spend time with family and to decide what to do with Rough Hollow Farm once he, and his brothers, go to Spring training. Emma has lived in Last Stand since high school and she doesn’t intend to leave. But now she wants more—a husband and babies—and she isn’t sure she can find it here. Then Wes, who she once loved until she set him free to chase his baseball dream, is offering her a chance to date him, to reconnect. Their attraction from years before reignites and Emma has to decide if she wants a future with Wes or to stay in Last Stand. Or, can she have both?
In “Scoring Position”, Ms. Rock lets us know home really is where the heart is. Also, I highly recommend reading the first two books (“Perfect Catch”, “Game On”) if you haven’t already.
I love, love, love small town romance that brings people back to the beginning to possibly find the future they left behind. Wes is a family man with a big heart and Emma is the woman for him. The second chance romance is handled superbly and offers the reader the potential for true romance, if only the two are willing to work to be together. The writing is wonderful, the characters are intriguing and leave the reader wanting to explore the rest of the book in the series to see how the rocky road to love went for small town people looking for love to last a lifetime. Wes Ramsey dated Emma Garcia years earlier, before he was drafted, but she broke it off. Emma ended things with Wes because she knew how determined he was to succeed in baseball and that nothing, not even her, would get in his way and she didn't want to hold him back (nor did she want to go traipsing about the country in pursuit of his dreams). Emma has issues about transience and has set her roots in Last Stand - it's her home and she wants to keep it that way. But Wes is back in town for the off-season and finds out that Emma is dating to find a guy to settle down with and he decides he wants an opportunity. Emma knows that Wes is heading out for spring training in two weeks, but gives him a shot anyway, since her feelings for him never really disappeared. But even though they're falling in love again, has anything really changed? Wes still plans to play baseball, which means either she leaves Last Stand to go with him or they maintain a long-distance relationship.
Okay, so honestly, as a story and as a second chance romance, this was kinda better than the second one in the series. However, taken as a whole, with how they got the HEA, this ended up being my least favorite.
So, I'm really sorry to be in the minority here, but I had issues. First of all, I had issues with the fact that Emma chose the "Last Stand is my home" as her hill to die on and yet made claims that she'd leave Last Stand if she didn't find the guy to settle down with in town. And that means that all her blustering about why she couldn't up and move to whatever town Wes was in was ridiculous. She didn't have to travel with him, she could just move to be his home base. But she changes her mind halfway through the book and decides that she can't leave Last Stand. And if she hadn't contradicted herself earlier on, I'd be 100% behind her. Wes (and everybody else) make it sound like no big deal for Emma to quit her job, move to a new city, leave her friends and family behind and put her career on hold for however many years while Wes gets a shot in baseball. Given the mobility that Wes was talking about (relocating for spring training, the season and going back to Last Stand in the off-season) Emma CANNOT hold down a teaching job. So she's out of her chosen career, one she loves, for however long Wes is viable in the league. And wasn't the whole point of her doing the dating thing to find a guy for marriage and a family because she no longer wanted to wait? Well, how long is she going to wait to start a family with Wes? They gonna start popping out kids traveling among three different homes? Is she HONESTLY going to go back into teaching after waiting ten years and having kids in the meantime? Not one of these stories had the man giving up anything for the woman. That bothered me a lot. Now I appreciate the hell out of the fact that Wes offered to end his career to stay with her, but I needed him to actually do it, or for them to compromise or something. Not just have her give up everything. If he couldn't give her what she wanted, it shows far more love to just leave her the hell alone.
And it irked me to watch three women abandon their hometown, their families and their careers to follow their menfolk's dreams. First Keely left her ailing father in the care of the sister that she sacrificed for so that the sister wouldn't have to. Then, after their father gets hurt and is hospitalized, Keely makes no effort to get back to see him. And even suggests that her sister, Alexis, put him in a home. This works conveniently for Alexis because then she ups and leaves her father in the home and relocates to be with her new baseball boyfriend, Ty. And then we see what happens with Emma. On top of that, three grown ass men can barely be bothered to get back to visit their grandfather who was hit by a frickin' bus. They keep urging him to sell the farm that is his legacy or have someone else take over because they're living out their baseball dreams at the moment and can't really take the time until their careers are spent...maybe 10 years from now. Well, grandpa's probably gonna be dead by the time their careers are over. It might be different if none of them were interested, but they were. Just not yet. I saw more selfish pursuit of dreams than I did family support and sacrifice (Keely and Alexis initially being the exceptions, but later not so much).

It’s always a bittersweet moment for me when a series I’ve enjoyed greatly seems to be winding down to the conclusion such as the Texas Playmakers series with Scoring Position, the third Ramsey brother’s story. I’ve learned to never say the actual end on any series or trilogy but this one feels like it to me. If so, I’ve enjoyed the ride immensely… if not, then I’ll happily fall into this world again without hesitation.
Once there was a time when Emma and Wes were a couple in love until college came along and their life plans took different paths. Now, years later Emma is ready to settle down with a husband, children, and a solid life while Wes is in town to deal with his family’s farm and get ready to return to baseball. It only takes the rumor mill and one look at Emma dating someone else to get Wes all riled up again, missing what they once had. And like any red-blooded male who sees his ex with someone else and knows he still has feelings there he sets out to show Emma what she’s missing by turning him down – trouble is, he actually means it and his heart is in deep trouble right now.
Scoring Position is such a poignant story. I liked both Wes and Emma, it’s hard to dislike two people who are so right for each other yet need to find a way to work their lives together. I also couldn’t take sides on this one as each has valid reasons for what happened in the past, and for what may happen now. There are bumps in the road to a happy ending for this couple but they are believable and could be worked around if they are willing to take the risk of loving each other for a lifetime. I have loved all the Texas Playmakers stories but this one took a bit more of my reading heart by the ending. I won’t spoil it for any other reader, but this story is one that I loved, couldn’t put down, and sighed with happiness at the final page. Don’t know of a better recommendation than that.
Plus I completely loved the addition of another couple’s love finding its way home – you’ll adore the side story right along with the main characters, I’m quite certain of that.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is the final book in the Texas Playmakers series about the 3 Ramsey brothers. I loved the book and the series. Book 3 was Wes Ramsey’s story. He is the youngest of the 3 brothers from Last Stand Texas. As the book opens, it is not too long until the start of spring training and Wes was invited to attend at the major level. His immediate family is all baseball but his grandpa wants one of the boys to help him on the family farm.
Wes’s ex girlfriend, Emma is a teacher in Last Stand. She has decided to start speed dating through the eligible men and if she doesn’t find one to settle down with, she will think about moving elsewhere to start a family. Wes and Emma originally broke up when she pursued her dream of teaching and chose to stay in Last Chance while he left to play travel baseball. Growing up, Emma’s mother dragged her around from place to place, never letting her put down roots until her high school years in Last Stand. Her past experiences have colored her feelings about not wanting to follow after Wes as he pursued his dream. She loved Wes but didn’t want that life any longer.
Wes is back again after 6 years to help decide how to help his grandpa and his farm. He runs into Emma while she is on a date and realizes he never got over her. He convinces her to give him a chance and they start spending time together. Both have strong feelings about the other person as well as how they see their individual futures. It is obvious there are challenges for a relationship and the angst is quite compelling.
In addition, in this book, Alexis and Ty have a storyline. Alexis is Keely’s sister and Emma’s friend and Ty is a teammate of Wes’s brother. Keely is Nate Ramsey’s girlfriend. Ty is unable to read and asks Emma to help him learn without telling Alexis. The two spend time working on his skills. Alexis and Ty also have feelings for each other.
I love how the author explored the second Chance relationship between Emma and Wes. The reader was never sure how the couple would end up. It was really an enjoyable and entertaining read. I gave it 5 stars.
Scoring Position is the third and final book in Joanne Rock’s Texas Playmakers series. The series tells the stories of the three baseball-playing Ramsey brothers, each of whom has managed to find a place in the baseball majors. This book is devoted to Wes Ramsey, the youngest and arguably the most talented of the brothers. While it ties in beautifully with the other two books it also stands alone well. Wes and Emma Garcia were an item back in high school and he hasn’t stopped loving her even though they broke up when college got in the way. Emma spent her childhood and early teen years moving from one town to another with her perennially restless mother and she’s had enough of moving. She has a career she loves as a high school teacher in Last Stand, Texas and she’s determined to settle forever in one place and start a family. I loved the interplay between these two. It was clearly obvious that they loved each other even though there were road blocks to be negotiated. That made for an interesting story with an ending that was not at all pre-ordained. Aside from the emotional pull of this relationship this story offers plenty of small town charm in terms of the close bonds between Wes, his brothers, mother and grandfather. It’s one of those stories that leaves you with a warm feeling as you close the covers.
We are back in Last Stand, TX with the legendary Ramsey siblings. Two of these handsome baseball players have found their significant other. Wes did too six years ago, but Emma Garcia refused to leave town , and Wes needed to go to pursue his career. Now back, Wes is determined to have a second chance with Emma. Though his intend was to slowly woo her, but when he finds out she’s trying speed dating in order to find a man to marry, he knows taking it slowly is not going to work. Emma’s reasons to find stability is a reaction to her childhood . One in which her flighty mother took her all over the USA. Will Wes convince her to give them a chance, or is this chance at love be just a memory? Aside from the plot of the story, it’s a story about the effects ones childhood has on one as an adult. How family dynamics or lack thereof, also molds our decisions and how “home” is not a place, but a state of mind when you find the one you love and loves you back even more. Lastly, Ty’s and Alexi’s story was sweet, touching and real. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
They say you never forget your first love ... and Wes Ramsey's arrival back in Last Stand, TX proves that's true! With the third book in her Texas Playmakers series, Joanne Rock brings us the final Ramsey brother's story in SCORING POSITION. If you've read the previous two books, you'll recognize lots of familiar faces and be able to pick up the ongoing story lines without a problem. I enjoyed their reunion!
Wes has the world at his fingertips now that his baseball career is heating up, and spending his last little bit of time back home in Last Stand becomes more and more attractive when he sees Emma almost as soon as he hits town.
Emma Garcia simply wants to have a home to put down roots in, but being attached to Wes meant seeing his dreams first hand and they don't include staying put in Last Stand. She might love him, but she can't give up herself just to be with him.
I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a small town atmosphere but is also a sports romance fan. Great characters, touching story lines and lots of feel good moments.
This is the third book in the Texas Playmakers series, but it's the first one I've read. It's a wonderful story of a second chance at love. The chemistry between Wes and Emma is so good I can't wait to go back and read the first two stories.
Emma wants to make a permanent home in the small town of Last Stand, Texas. But as much as she still cares for Wes, she knows he will not stay in town while he follows his dream to play baseball, so she decides to find a husband through process of elimination by dating the decent guys living in the small town she fell in love with.
Wes isn't sure he can handle seeing her date one man after another knowing she still holds a place in his heart. Can he talk Emma into taking a chance to revisit the love they once shared? Or will she follow her head instead of her heart.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and my review is voluntary.
Joanne Rock’s third book, Scoring Position, in the Texas Playmaker series is rife with heart and warmth...its characters were once again easy to identify with and form an emotional connection to. Wes and Emma’s story drew me in from the opening page...with Emma’s online dating frustrations...those frustrations nearly jumped off the page, they were so well captured in Emma’s inner monologue.
And I certainly enjoyed how all the three stories characters made appearances here, especially to tie the whole series up with a pretty literary bow. I’m definitely going to miss Last Stand, Texas and the brothers, Nate, Cal, and Wes.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This is the third book in this series but I had no problem following the story even though I haven't read the previopus two books each is total stand alone
Emma Garcia has always lived in Last Stand Texas and know she is ready to settle down and start a family so it is time to leave good time guys like her ex Ball player Wes Ramsey behind and look for a m,an that will give her what she dreams of. So why when Wes walks into the bar where she is on her latest date can she not stop thinking about him. Wes has returned to Last Stand to sort out the family ranch before sporing training starts he knows that he should leave Emma alone but he just can;'t walk away from her Can they both have the future that they want
This wonderful Second chance love story based in Last Stand, Texas stole my heart. I love the Ramsey family well some of them anyways and I am so happy to finally get Wes' story. Wes and Emma are the last to fall and when they fall they fall big time. This couple were high school sweethearts but Emma knew she wanted to stay in Last Stand after college to teach but Wes well he was always set to be a baseball star so she let him go to follow his dreams. Funny how life leads you were you need to be and it leads these two back to Last Stand and each other. I hope that our author will give us another book with this family and catch us up with them.
I loved how this wasn't really just Wes and Emma but also a side story of Ty and Alexi which interweaves with We and Emma's. I really liked how Wes and Emma had a past but boy do they like to dodge it at ties instead of actually talking about it and Emma would irk me every now and then with how she would dodge Wes or deflect what he says, I get she doesn't want to be hurt but she is the one that says right at the beginning she would move in order to find the right guy. This is a sweet second chance love story with highs and lows, dreams and pressures as well as figuring out what you really want in life and thank gawd for Granddad Everette I love him to bites! 🥰
A perfect win for me, second chance romance and baseball. Especially since we can't watch baseball right now, at least we can read about it. Emma loves her small town of Last Chance but is having no luck at finding her HEA. Wes, baseball player is home for a short time when he comes to Emma's rescue with her dating escapades, he soon realizes what he is missing, now to figure out how to make this relationship to work.
Loved this book full of romance, family and friends, plus baseball!! This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
Emma has decided to speed date her way though Last Stand Texas. She wants to settle down and have a family. so why waste time. She is still hung up on her ex, but that ship has sailed. He has a baseball career and no intention of staying in Last Stand which is where her home is. Wes's career is taking off and the last thing he needs is the distraction of a woman. When he sees Emma and hears about her crazy plan to find a man all bets are off. Can he convince her to give them another chance? Wes just needs to make her realize that home is more than just where you live. Fun read.
Will it be a second chance for them? They split up the first time as they both wanted different things out of life, but has anything changed this time around?
When he finds out she is speed-dating her way around town to find someone to settle down with, he wants it to be him, even though he is leaving town again. Will she give him a chance?
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.
This is book three of the Texas Playmakers series and I was given an ARC in exchange for my review. Wes and Emma have a second chance at romance but it seems to Wes he is always watching her walk away and that he really needs to come up with the right words that will keep her by his side. I loved the peek at Alexis and Ty’s romance, but will his painful secret always stand in their way? This one left me warm hearted.
What a great second chance story. The first time Wes and Emma were together she let him go because they both wanted different things in life. Now Wes is back once again trying to prove to Emma that they are perfect for each other. Emma is determined to speed date every eligible bachelor in town because she wants to find that special someone to settle down with. Will Wes be able to prove to her that, that person is him? I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
An amazing story that really pulls out the emotions from you. Emma and Wes are given a second chance at figuring out how deep and committed they are to each other. Following their path and the path of Ty and Alexis to everlasting is one filled with chemistry angst and friendship. Loved going back to Last Stand, Texas and the characters there.
I voluntarily read a advanced reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.
A wonderful addition to the Texas Playmakers series this is the third book in series. Scoring Position by Joanne Rock. A story of possible second chance at love, family and friends. I hope we have more to read in series and more by this author.
Rock has crafted a second-chance, small-town romance with baseball. Emma and Wes are perfect together, but have to figure out how they can both chase their dreams. As with all Rock books she takes on some serious subjects with grace and thoughtfulness. If you are looking for something to do while you wait for baseball to come back, here’s a winning choice.
Scoring Position by Joanne Rock She’s playing the field… Emma Garcia is ready to put down roots in Last Stand, Texas, and she’s ready for love – but only with someone settled and responsible. Professional wanderers like her ex-boyfriend, ballplayer Wes Ramsey, are exactly what she doesn’t need. Except when Wes walks into the local dance hall during her date with someone else, Emma can’t think about anyone but her sexy ex. Wes knows he should leave well enough alone. But one hot look from his ex has him rethinking their split – and determined to show her what she’s missing! This is Emma Garcia and Wes Ramsey's story. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman dating in a small town will forever be matched with the exact same pool of bachelors on every matchmaking app known to womankind. Worse, if she’s lived in that small town for a few years, she’ll know every last one of them far too well to consider them as prospective romantic partners. Dismally swiping left on the familiar lineup of a dozen faces in the latest app she’d tried, high school English teacher Emma Garcia sat at her desk after her students left for the weekend. Outside her classroom at Creekbend High School in Last Stand, Texas, she heard the diesel groan of buses leaving the parking lot, taking all the noise and restless excitement of her charges with them. Most of her colleagues were already pouring out the doors too, in spite of their teaching contract that said they needed to work for fifty minutes past the time of the bus departure. How could she blame them on a Friday the week before their February break? Maybe if she had a life of her own—a family, a romantic partner—to go home to, Emma would be bolting for her compact car now too. Her one commitment was weekend dog-sitting for a friend heading out of town, but she wouldn’t receive her canine guest until tomorrow morning. Now, she glanced wistfully up at the Pride and Prejudice poster taped to her classroom wall and asked a question of the fictional Bennet sisters—Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine “Kitty,” and Lydia. Wes Ramsey. The familiar rush of awareness from seeing him made her skin heat. Had she conjured him out of her longing thoughts? He stood at the end of her bench seat, all six foot two of him with the strong shoulders of a power hitter. In faded jeans and worn boots, a blue flannel buttoned over a white T-shirt, he was dressed the same as the ranchers and locals that populated Last Stand Saloon. But his dark hair, green eyes, and chiseled jaw were so familiar to her. She’d kissed that mouth more times than she could count and still not often enough to satisfy her. “Do you mind if we join you for a couple of minutes?” the guy behind Wes asked, making her aware Wes wasn’t alone. His friend dropped into the bench seat beside Alexis. “The place is packed.” Scoring Position by Joanne Rock is a 3 star book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy. Joanne's Books with Tule: How to Lose a Groom in 10 Days The Runaway Brides The Wedding Audition The Runaway Brides There Goes the Bride The Runaway Brides Bride on the Run The Runaway Brides Last Chance Christmas Road to Romance Second Chance Cowboy Road to Romance A Chance This Christmas Road to Romance The Perfect Catch Texas Playmakers Game On Texas Playmakers Scoring Position Texas Playmakers
Scoring Position, the third in the Texas Playmakers Series by Joanne Rock brings the reader again to Last Stand, Texas. To be a small town it sure does boost some great athletic members. My small town would be jealous. Putting that thought aside, Wes Ramsey is on the rise in baseball. His dreams have not changed, neither has the love for the one person he wants to share those dreams. There’s the hitch. Six years later, nothing has changed with Emma Garcia, she wants roots not travel ball.
This second chance romance is sweet with heat. It is believable because this couple has a history, it is not instant anything, it is more denial of everything between them. Wes is determined though. It is difficult not to swoon over Wes because let’s face it, we all would like to be unforgettable to at least one person in our lives. So I was rooting for Wes from the beginning, thinking it was best for them both.
There is also another subplot that with Emma’s friend, Alexis and Wes’ friend, Ty. In both these couples’ stories there is a such strong proof of how adverse experiences in childhood follows into adulthood. However, these characters show resilience, growth and spirit. An enjoyable book that is also inspiring. An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was a nice story and I did like it, but I really struggled with the source of conflict. While I understand the childhood issues, there was nothing saying she had to travel with him to every game. In fact, most athlete, esp those with kids, don't travel to all the away games. Maybe they make a few trips together, but that's not the norm. As a child of a father who worked out of town, I know that a relationship can last when a partner is out of town frequently. The fact she would move to a different town if she couldn't find a man in Last Stand- but was unwilling to look at moving to the city of his baseball team..... well she came across as very inflexible and unwilling to explore an option that didn't have her as the priority. Overall, an OK story. I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Surrounded by a struggling life and unable to truly find love, Emma’s first love steps up to the plate determined to hit a home run. Plus, there is a side story of another romance that adds more pleasure to the plot. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Emma and Wes were together in high school, but, then they split, so he can become baseball player. Now thy meeting together again. Emma wants to speed date all eligible men in Last Stand and wants to be in a pool of men dating her. What kind of the future can they have? Love this story. Enjoyed a lot.
I loved this book, the main characters Emma and Wes are both so lovable and relatable. Their story is kind of a second chance as they had once failed to compromise to make a relationship work and had to grow and learn what they each wanted most of themselves and each other. As an added bonus in this story there is finally some resolution between Alexis and Ty so it’s kind of a dual romance and satisfying ending for both couples.
I love that this storyline was about baseball,I'll take a baseball romances over football any day of the week. Wes and Emma have a past that goes back to their college days, you see that they still have that chemistry between them and also the old problems that come with it,do they have what it takes to get past it and move on.
