This novella had like, 88 pages, and I'm not saying that I cried because these were the last 88 pages I'll ever read about Kat & Edward. I repeatedly told myself to read as slow as possible. My brain failed me because all it heard was, "Yo you're gonna pick this book up and you're gonna read it so quick that you'd put blinking to shame."

I finished this book within 30 minutes. Y'all can say I failed at life. Obviously I don't understand what self-control is??? Like y'all I can't even look at myself when I'm at the mirror. I signed myself up for failure. but that was the best 88 pages of my entire existence and I ain't even mad. I think 88 is my new favorite number. I'm debating whether I should put that on my bio. But imagine reading this,

" hi, I'm tweebs and my favorite number is 88 :))))"

Someone broke the news to me and I'm not even going to deny that I almost smacked them through the screen. What can I say?? I'm unpredictable when I'm very emotional. What am I emotional about ??? Well, let's have a moment of silence and accept the fact that after this book; there's no more Kat & Edward.

Idk what to do with my life. I'm probably going to try petitioning for more books but if the author grants my request then y'all should give me national holiday in my honor. We can call it,

"Tweebs' Day" or "Donate $500 to Tweebs bank account Day" or "Aspire to be Tweebs Day"

Okay I'm emotional so I can't think properly of what the national holiday should be named. It'll be awesome though. Stay tuned!!!!

This is a short tale of the months between Edwards proposal to Kat and their wedding, before Kat returns to her world.

It's sooooo cute!! Guys I love Edward so so much and Kat is so awesome!

I found out about this last night and I bought it immediately. I need more Kat and Edward moments!
In fact I even learned that Aya Ling is writing a SEQUEL to the Ugly Stepsister!!!!!

This was an enjoyable novella and leaves me excited to see what happens in Twice Upon a Time.

It's been a while since I read The Ugly Stepsister, so some of the details were a little fuzzy, but I did appreciate this glimpse if Kat and Edward. I would have liked a little more time with the two of them. It felt a bit jammed with everything it was trying to fit in, but I do aapreciate that it wasn't too overly sappy.

Synopsis
Taking place at the time nearing the ending of its previous book, The Ugly Stepsister , Princess of Athelia told a piece of story after Katriona (or Katherine) had convinced herself that the only happiness needed to end the story is to find the happiness for herself. Giving up her initial goal to get Cinderella and the Prince fall in love, Kat braved her heart to admit the truth she had within. That she, too, felt the same way Prince Edward did about her. Edward sure was more than elated, and good thing his parents, King and Queen were happy as well ‘cause his son had finally agreed to tie the knot. Engagement was on schedule, preparation after preparation started to take place everywhere around the palace, princess lessons were delivered to Kat in dizzying regularity, and last, the wedding was in tow, ready to unite both Edward and Kat in holy matrimony. The wedding should have been the day they couldn’t wait, yet this couple dreaded that very day since the wedding bell would not only confirming their marriage but would also be the last thing Kat would ever hear in Athelia. As the day getting closer, they agreed to make the remaining months of their togetherness happy ones. But while Edward was ready for whatever kind of ending would happen, Kat still could not shake the feelings of guilty: guilty of leaving him, guilty of the possibility of breaking his heart. Add some pressures Kat had to shoulder as princess-to-be and doubts people planted on her mind for being an unpopular second-daughter of an earl, Kat could not be any guiltier and more insecure about her current position. But just like Kat’s growing worries, Edward’s faith to her did grow as well. And whatever would happen in the end, the Prince was determined to show her just how much she worth to be his Princess.

Craved Romance
Reading this novella brought back so many good memories I had with The Ugly Stepsister. I craved for more Eddie-Kat moments more than the author could give in book 1. So imagine my happiness when Aya decided to give us that through Princess of Athelia. Just like before, the romance between the main characters is built smoothly. I love how the couple interact. How they could be so darn sweet without being too cheesy with each other. Edward just makes me fall for him harder the more I read about him. But who wouldn’t when he is his usual charming, calm, and caring Prince-personality. And to top it off, he is just so in love with Kat making me all melting inside with his sincerity to love her knowing the risk... Kat with her unladylike manner trademark never stop to amuse me. Her kindness and social-awareness are always such interesting story to follow.

Other Interesting Points
I love it that this retelling story do not just retell the famous romance part only. I like how Aya always touches social issues during old period, like labor child during TUS, and now the equality of both gender to receive education in this book. The issues always meet realistic resolutions in the end which I really appreciate.
For a novella, Princess of Athelia is satisfying enough in my opinion. I like the neat plot, enough twists thrown in, and still so many other issues covered well. Wrap it all in smooth writing style, then we got a quick heartwarming read to enjoy. But of course, you better read the TUS first to easily relate the story.

Final Thought
The ending is oh so good, it makes me realize just how much I love this couple and never want to part with them. I’m also so darn curious about the continuation of Henry and Elle’s future. Lucky for us there’s the sequel of TUS coming soon! Ever After hopefully would answer all my curiosity and feed my thirstiness of Eddie-Kat moments. But for now, I think I should be happy enough with re-reading TUS during my waiting :)

Time for a little recap: The Ugly Stepsister (book 1) is a unique retelling of Cinderella where Kat ends up in the story world as one of the ugly stepsister after accidentally tearing the pages of her book. She could only go back to her realm if the happily ever after occurs, so she plans a mission to make Cinderella and Prince Charming, i.e. Prince Edward fall in love but she falls in love with the prince instead. This book takes place between the time when Kat moves to the castle as the to-be bride of Prince Edward till her departure from that realm after her marriage kiss in The Ugly Stepsister. This book was indeed short and sweet. We learn more about this realm, i.e. how the story world was actually created and how things function here. Kat had to face real difficulties here as she had to learn and be accustomed to the manners of a princess and be prepared for the royal wedding, it was pretty fun to read because she's the total opposite instead of a princess material. As much as she wanted to be back to her mother and sister, she also didn't want to leave Edward behind. It was a tough choice she had to make but she made it nonetheless.

This book reminded me why I loved Kat so much, she’s one of my favourite female protagonists. The social issues were present in this book as well and she continued to fight for them. And Edward, was as charming as ever, he was caring and so supportive of Kat. I loved their romance so much, it was just so sweet! I already knew how the first book ended, so I braced myself for the ending but I'm really very exited to see what happens in the next book!

Overall, Princess of Athelia was a short but a great read, it was fast paced and the writing was smooth and easy to read. Though I've already had a glimpse of the next book but I literally can't wait to read the whole finished product! It's going to be epic!

Kat sta per sposare il principe Edward. Nonostante il giorno in cui deve tornare alla vita reale si avvicini sempre più, è determinata a vivere ogni istante con lui. Tuttavia, essere la moglie di un principe comporta la rigida conoscenza dell’etichetta di corte, regole che agli occhi di Kat appaiono obsolete e fuori luogo. Con la sagacia che la contraddistingue, la fanciulla è determinata a lasciare il segno nel regno di Athelia e nel cuore di Edward.

“È troppo da sopportare. Lo abbraccio, avvinghiandomi a lui come se questo possa alleviare il dolore. Resta con me, urla la mia mente.”

Questa breve novella si focalizza principalmente sul rapporto tra Kat ed Edward che nel romanzo principale era stato un po’ messo nell’ombra.

I due appaiono come due persone normali, innamorate reciprocamente e non come due personaggi costretti dalla società a interpretare un ruolo.

Ancora una volta emerge la grande determinazione di Kat. Pur consapevole del suo essere estranea, non si lascia scoraggiare, affronta l’etichetta e la reinterpreta a suo modo contaminandola con elementi moderni, propri del suo tempo, i quali, agli occhi di un mondo praticamente medievale, appaiono assurdi.

Non mancano momenti nei quali indiscusso protagonista è il romanticismo, elemento, questo, inedito. Edward prima che un principe è un uomo innamorato, coinvolto totalmente dal rapporto che sta costruendo con Kat. È sempre presente, premuroso, dolce, anch’egli, indubbiamente, in antitesi con le convenzioni del tempo.

Lo stile dell’autrice è semplice, scorrevole e accattivante. Per quanto si tratti di un testo molto breve, riesce comunque a coinvolgere il lettore e a trasportarlo tra i corridoi dei sontuosi palazzi all’interno dei quali si muove la simpatica Kat.

Una novella che si legge in poche ore dalla grande impronta “femminista”.

We get it: lady/princess/queen lessons are booooring! I would have enjoyed more of the relationship between Edward and Kat being exposed, more on the ways they manage to sneak time together. We already know that their time together is limited, and I would have enjoyed actually seeing *more* of them enjoying their time together, instead of convincing themselves that they needed to enjoy what time they had together.

Questa breve novella dalla copertina meravigliosa si colloca tra il primo volume "La Cenerentola Sbagliata" e il secondo, "C'era una volta... o due?"; io purtroppo l'ho letta dopo!

"La Principessa di Athelia", infatti, non solo approfondisce una fase che ne "La Cenerentola Sbagliata" è tagliata, ossia la vita di Kat a corte in veste di Principessa dato che è ora la promessa sposa del Principe Edward, ma si accennano le scelte di alcuni personaggi secondari (Elle e Poppy) che ritroveremo poi sviluppate, e un particolare molto importante della trama del secondo volume "C'era una volta... o due?", che minaccia la storia tra il Principe Edward e Kat! Ecco perché quando ho letto quest'ultimo ero rimasta un po' spaesata... quello che mancava era stato raccontato qui! Dunque non fate il mio stesso errore: non perdetela! Vi farà meglio comprendere e apprezzare il volume successivo.



La novella è brevissima; personalmente l'ho letta in appena un'ora e mezza, ma l'ho passata in buona compagnia, tanto è scorrevole. La trama è così lineare che non brilla di colpi di scena (se non per quello che si riconosce avendo già letto il volume successivo, un indizio che potrebbe anche passare inosservato), ciò nonostante ho apprezzato ritrovare le tematiche che mi avevano conquistato nel primo volume: l'emancipazione femminile e la tutela del lavoro minorile (quando ancora non si può proprio toglierlo, almeno tutelarlo...). Ciò mi ha ricordato che questa serie offre una visione di quel medioevo prossimo a trasformarsi, molto gradualmente, nel mondo moderno, ed è interessante fare questo viaggio indietro nel tempo alla ricerca della svolta che ha fatto sì che anche per il popolo migliorasse la qualità della vita.

Sempre come nel primo volume è interessante la differenza abissale tra le caste e Kat che funge da collante, o meglio, nascendo come persona umile, anche se si veste e tenta di mostrarsi nobile, ha lo sguardo sensibile nei confronti del popolo. Il suo essere anticonformista conquista le lettrici anche più del pincipe, poiché lei con il suo sapere moderno e i suoi ideali incarna tutte noi.



Pure le mie emozioni sono andate di pari passo con quelle di Kat: la noia durante le lezioni d'etichetta, la tenerezza durante le effusioni con Edward (molto da piccioncini appena innamorati, tutto carezze e piccoli gesti d'amore), e il bisogno d'esprimersi durante le sessioni di politica; persino un certo desiderio di vendetta per quelle arpie che gironzolano attorno al suo uomo (o a Henry, destinato a Elle) ma a cui Kat non cede, comportandosi proprio come un'eroina delle favole, solo lodi e niente macchie.


"Ancora lezioni di portamento ed etichetta, evviva! Proprio quando pensavo di averne ricevute abbastanza per diventare una signora, sono obbligata a seguire quelle per essere una principessa. Devo imparare a ricevere ospiti stranieri, memorizzare la storia della famiglia reale, addirittura è necessario che io sappia abbinare cibi differenti con il vino. All'inizio è affascinante, ma quando le lezioni durano dal mattino presto alla sera, accompagnate dalla pressione di eseguire impeccabilmente tutto il protocollo regale, l'emozione svanisce in fretta. La vita di un reale non è come viene descritta nelle favole, almeno non ad Athelia."



Kat ci mostra che cos'è l'amore e quanto si è disposti a sacrificare di sé pur di rendere l'altro felice, e non si tratta solo di accettare quelle lezioni o gli sfiancanti balli... oltrettutto, nella novella aleggia quest'atmofera malinconica, se non drammatica, della separazione inevitabile tra i due innamorati: il patto col goblin vuole che Kat ritorni al suo mondo esattamente quando si sposerà.

Ma in questo libro non succede, regalandoci così un (temporaneo) lieto fine.



Mi è piaciuta l'evoluzione dei personaggi femminili secondari, Elle (la Cenerentola per antonomasia, ma che in questa serie ha molta più personalità della favola originale) e Poppy (la popolana molto amica di Kat conosciuta nel primo libro), con una novità: una bambina di nome Rosie che è la figlia del cugino del principe Edward. Un trio di donne che indipendentemente dall'età sembra gridare all'unisono il bisogno di avere gli stessi diritti degli uomini: girl power!



Consiglio questo libro a tutto il pubblico femminile amante delle favole, ma prevalentemente young adult, raccomando a chi sta seguendo la serie di non perdersi assolutamente questo tassello per avere il quadro completo : leggete "La Principessa di Athelia" subito dopo il primo volume, "La Cenerentola Sbagliata"! La vostra esperienza di lettura ne gioverà.

Con questa novella torniamo ad Athelia, nel periodo antecedente il finale del primo volume.
Kat si è trasferita a palazzo non solo per stare più vicina ad Edward ma anche per prendere le distanze dalla matrigna e dalla sorellastra, e per imparare tutto ciò che concerne la vita a palazzo per essere all'altezza del ruolo che col fidanzamento con il principe andrà a occupare.

Se per Kat imparare l'etichetta era già complicato a casa Bradshaw, figuratevi la difficoltà nel dover imparare tutto l'albero genealogico della famiglia reale e la maggior attenzione all'etichetta. La sua presenza a palazzo è gradita a pochi, nessuno si capacita di come sia riuscita a conquistare il principe, in pochi hanno sorvolato sul suo essere anticonformista, con idee all'avanguardia per la mentalità di tutto il popolo di Athelia, le signore più anziane non han paura a mostrarle antipatia e le più giovani provano comunque ad avvicinare Edward. Le uniche rimastele amiche sono Poppy ed Elle che faranno la loro comparsa e riveleranno parte della vita che stanno vivendo.

Con questa novella ci viene presentato il lato romantico della coppia, sempre pronta a ritagliarsi anche brevi attimi di solitudine, perché entrambi sanno che il tempo per Kat è contato prima che possa/voglia tornare nel suo mondo. Si sono promessi di vivere felici il tempo a loro disposizione ma sappiamo come è fatta Kat, per sapere Edward felice è disposta a farsi da parte e provar a far avvicinare altre pretendenti, finendo solo col far arrabbiare il suo bel principe.

Anche con la novella l'autrice sceglie di portare avanti gli ideali e le tematiche presentate nel primo volume.
Amo come l'autrice mostri il legame tra i nostri protagonisti. Sono affiatati, hanno creato un legame che solo il lieto fine può spezzare dato ciò che Krev ha spifferato; il loro amore è reale e non dovuto alla necessità di essere combinato per sistemare le signorine nella posizione più alta a livello nobiliare o economico.
Ora, purtroppo, non mi resta altro che attendere il secondo volume.

Eccomi qui dopo aver letto questo bellissimo libro dolce, romantico,

pieno della Kat che porta le idee belle moderne nell'epoca di Athelia e dove troviamo l'amore gentile, passionale, struggente certe volte dei due protagonisti.
Tante volte ho pianto e ho adorato pagine e pagine di questo libro ! È purtroppo troppo corto ma ho adorato tutto.
Ho adorato le descrizioni, le spiegazioni fatte dall'autrice e come sono state tradotte. Prometto che leggerò, anche di questo libro, la versione originale in inglese!
Le descrizioni : "È piuttosto piacevole stare qui, sentire l'aria di fine estate ancora umida e calda sulla pelle, e ascoltare i cinguettii distanti dei passeri."
"Quando Amelie apre le tende, posso godere di una bellissima vista sul lago. Riesco a percepire il vento che agita le acque scintillanti, e gli alberi che lo circondano assomigliano a guardiani."

Poi è inutile dire che ho adorato tante parti romantiche, dolci, commoventi dei protagonisti ma non voglio spoilerate troppo, consiglio il libro un sacco.
E se posso dare un consiglio io le parti romantiche le ho lette con sottofondo la canzone : "We both know" di Colbie Caillat e Gavin DeGraw ;
Mentre le parti avventurose come la seduta in parlamento con la canzone "Connect with Us" dei ONEUS ;
E le parti di amicizia o di aiuto tra personaggi con "Never gonna let you down" di Colbie Caillat
E le parti di spiegazione con la canzone "Clover" degli A.C.E .
Libro stupendo intermedio della serie che approfondisce alcuni momenti dei protagonisti, prima che si debbano separare.

Continuano le avventure di Katriona nel mondo fantasy, la principessa attende il lieto fine per porre fine alla fiaba, ma causerà anche la fine della sua storia d’amore.

Edward e Katriona saranno pronti per questo crudele destino?

Può una fiaba trasformarsi in una bella storia d’amore reale?

La scrittura sempre ironica calibrata e romantica, ci porta a sognare, a divertirci nelle situazioni buffe improvvisate dalla protagonista e il cuore batterà per quel principe azzurro così diverso dal libro delle fiabe.

Un Breve libro di passaggio, una sorta di spin-off del precedente che ci accompagna lentamente a quel lieto fine tanto sperato come in tutte le fiabe dei secoli dei secoli.

Questo è un approfondimento del capitolo 42 di "La Cenerentola Sbagliata" infatti questa novella si svolge prima che Kat ritorni nel suo mondo.

In questa breve novella, da una parte troviamo Kat alle prese con il diventare una principessa, con i dubbi e i sensi di colpa che la assillano per la sua partenza e, dall'altra Edward che come nel primo libro rimane una roccia solida consapevole a cosa va incontro ma non gli importa. Lui ama Kat e vuole passare quanto più tempo con lei.

J’avais beaucoup aimé le premier tome et j’ai adoré rester dans l’atmosphère si romantique de cette histoire avec cette petite nouvelle. Nous y retrouvons les personnages principaux, Kat et Edward, profitant le plus possible de leurs instants à deux avant que Kat ne soit obligée de partir. Cette dernière a emménagé au palais et va devoir suivre les leçons qui lui permettront de devenir une véritable princesse digne de son prince.

I usually avoid .5 books in the series......Now I know why

A lot of series have the .5 inbetween books. Usually I skip them but for some reason I went ahead and read this one. Going to be honest the only reason I read it was because it was free with my kindle unlimited subscription. Really it just is life after the ball for Kat and edward . If you read the first book The ugly step sister you know she is already back to her real world. This is book just is their engagement. While it was a good read not really all that necessary for the continuation of the story.

So this little bonus story filling the gaps between the last chapter and the epilogue from the first book was a little uneven. At the beginning, it had strong princess diaries undertones, plus way too many allusions to Pride and Prejudice for my taste and I occasionnally wanted to throttle the heroin. However, the second half was way better and remembered me why I - and the Prince - loved Kat in the first place. She has a good heart and is a smart girl, even if way too impulsive at times.

I enjoyed the fluffy story, my only issue with it is this...................................... it's too short! I like how the author was kind enough to give a view I to how Kay was held to expectations she knows we in the end she can't fulfil. While she is worried, how Edward will be when she gone. While still showing how her wants to make the story world better for the people she is leaving behind.

It is fun to have a book that is dedicated to Kat and Edward as a couple. It also explains a bit more of what might happen after the wedding bells ring.

Love this novella!!! It shows a little more in depth into what went on when Kat moved into the palace. And that even though they were in love they still had lessons to learn, obstacles to overcome! And they are not even ENGAGED YET!!!
