Cathy Brennan is leaving the comfort of her Nebraska home to travel the Oregon Trail. It's the spring of 1849 and she’s brutally unaware of what awaits her upon her departure. Despite the many hardships ahead, romance is on the horizon. Childhood friend and love interest, Shane Mackenzie, earns a place in her heart, wrangling cattle and dangerous obstacles along the trail. Love blossoms and the couple soon find themselves embraced by their new family of traveling companions, a lovable cast of gold prospectors, gamblers, and even a fast-talking Madame and her charming ladies of “ill-repute,” risk life and limb as they journey across the Great Frontier. Together, they challenge conventional beliefs. The young pioneers will soon discover an evil lurking within the seemingly quiet plains of the northwest.
Haunted by threatening dreams and visions, Cathy battles both real and imaginary forces, that eventually culminate in a surprisingly twist of fate.
Will the green-eyed beauty find love and contentment in the arms of Shane Mackenzie, a handsome cowboy? Or will she fall victim to the dark forces bent on her destruction. Dare to take up the reins in this action-packed romance. Prairie Ghosts is a unique tale for a new generation of western romance lovers.

A touch of mystery and romance in the old west. This was a really good western not sure why the rating is so low on Goodreads but I know I enjoyed the book. I found the characters complex and intriguing and just what you would imagine they would be like. With a touch of mystery and romance, I had a hard time putting the book down. The book is on the longer side so give yourself a bit more time to read it. I highly recommend this book it is one I know I will re-visit again and again. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
An Epic Historical Journey of Adventure, Tragedy, Victory, and Love!
This book has it all! At a time when authors are being pigeonholed into specific genres, AnneMarie Dapp had the wherewithal to say not so fast... This book is history meets hero's journey with a slice of mystery, a sprinkling of fantasy, and an under crust of budding love, not just for the main characters, but the supporting characters as well. Americans have forgotten the history and may have never really embraced the incredible courage of the pioneers who settled the West. This book is both educational and liberatingly transformative. The writing takes on a descriptive nature that literally brings the characters and story to life. Dapp is a talented writer with the descriptive skill of a L'Amour but in a voice of a writer who knows exactly where she wants to take her audience. Confidently written & expressed! Brilliant writing!
The first book in the White Raven Series a well written story with a very good storyline the story flowed smoothly from page to page. It seemed like you where there watching the story unfold in front of you. The story starts in the spring of 1849. It is mainly Cathy Brennan and Shane Mackenzie's story as they and a group of pioneers travel across the Oregon Trail from Nebraska. There will be hardships, a birth, two young men finding each other, a stampede, injury, and romance. I want to read the next book in this series. AnneMarie Dapp makes the frontier come alive in her latest release, Prairie Ghosts. Cathy Brennan has a wonderful and other worldly connection with nature, both seen and unseen. She does her best to guard her animals, herself and her loved ones from the dark forces bent on her destruction. Her hero, Shane Mackenzie is there to love and assist. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.
This is the third book I have read by Dapp. Her writing style is very vivid and descriptive, she gives great attention to detail. I also like how she uses a vast variety of characters. In this book you meet all sorts of fun and unforgettable characters, I really got a kick out of The Madame:) A sweet romance story, I look forward to the next book in this series:) T.Cullen

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average romance Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2020
This is the grit that formed our United States. Yes, this story reminds us that love makes things happen. The love between a man and a woman, the kindness of neighbors, the strength of newly formed communities. It was a heartwarming read to meet this brave young woman, her stalwart hero, and the variety of personalities woven within this 'historical quilt'. Their journey is a gamble, keeping one's values and wits were a daily battle, it was the drama that kept me turning the pages. This is a story told with heart, displaying the kindness and treachery some were willing to express to get to their destination. This is an inspirational tale told by a heartwarming Author. Looking forward to the rest of the series
I enjoyed this book as I read more than 2/3 of it and then the author had to ruin it for me. There was no reason that to introduce a homosexual affair but for the author to throw the subject in the face of the reader. Did the homosexual scene enhance the book? Not at all, in fact it downgraded the story. Surprise, the author lives in California where apparently any thing goes. You attempted to fix a cute western story and violated the age old principle, if it an’t broke don’t try to fix it.
