Yakima Henry #1-6

Yakima Henry: Volume 1

Rate this book
FROM AUTHOR OF THE REVENGER SERIES, PETER BRANDVOLD, COMES A BRAND-NEW WESTERN HERO...

Yakima Henry is the loneliest breed of men in the Old West—he’s half-white, half-Cheyenne Indian.

It’s not easy being a half-breed on the western frontier. Belonging to neither race, Yakima finds himself at odds with both. Often fleeing a hangman’s rope, the lonely half-breed roams the mountains and plains, looking for…what?

Hell, not even Yakima knows. A home, maybe? The love of a good woman? He finds both for a time only after having hell to pay to get them…but for a man like Yakima, with a reputation as one of the most formidable gunfighters on the entire frontier, and having left a trail of dead men behind him…as well as broken hearts…none of the usual comforts are his for long.

Follow Yakima’s epic adventures in this gripping new omnibus, containing books 1-6.

Peter Brandvold - Yakima Henry Omnibus Vol 1 - Reviewed 10/10/19
Searching for?? Needing?? Drifting!!!

Drifting, fleeing, lonely, no place that is home, Yakima Henry being a half breed and not belonging to either the white or the Indian part of him, he just continues to search looking for that something that will tie him somewhere. Taking dangerous jobs, hooking up with dangerous women and still not finding what he wants. Maybe because he, himself doesn’t even know what it is that will make his roots take hold. With a reputation for not taking any guff from anyone; he and his Arkansas toothpick plus his gunfighting abilities leave a wide trail behind him, dead men and more than a few broken-hearted women. Being fairly good looking, built for loving and with a heart of gold he just can’t help but lend a helping hand to those that need. Life offers not many warm comforts for him and his horse Wolf, as they wander the west in their search! Wolf being the main reason for many of his comforts and a few of his troubles as horse thieves take a liken to him. Wolf is a one-man horse and no man separates him from his horse and is around to tell about it.

What did I like? Being a member of this half white/half red world, I could relate to the problems that faced Yakima and his search for belonging. Fortunately for me, I have the coloring for one of my bloodlines and did not have to go through all the problems that he did. Of course, I also was not born in the same time era either, there is a little more tolerance for the half breeds of my world. I enjoy reading and living the west with Peter Brandvold characters, so far this is my second omnibus with a single character in each. Both being strong, good looking, lovable with hearts full of gold, reaching out to help others beyond their own needs.

What will you like? A well written and edited book with a strong storyline that just reaches out and takes hold of you from the first to the last page. Characters that are amazing and bold with the ability to have you either hate or love with strong emotions. The fact that you have more than one story to fill your reading needs is awesome, too many times you find that a book needs more or your not ready to put that character to bed and be finished reading. The research again shows that Peter knows what he is writing about. The descriptions take you right into the story and make you comfortable. The action is incredible with many either making you cry or gasp but either way, you're on the edge of the seat while Yakima deals with the problems. If you're not crying or gasping your laughing because there is a ton of funny situations! Wonderful and highly recommended read.

Poor read

If you like a complex plot, insights into main characters and character development this book is probably not for you. If on other hand you like a lot of hot sex on page after page for the purpose of tint elation then this book is for you. I personally found it boring after a few of them so I quit reading in the second story.

Western saga

Written in the grain of zane gray as a series of connected stories. I found the the descriptions of the characters a little over the top in some cases. The story lines were compelling and entertaining. I think each story could be adapted to a screen play by the author. Overall I enjoyed the dead and will read other books by the author

Enjoyed the book, just wish you would have left out the descripted sex acts!

The hero in this book gets more sex by accident than most people do on purpose!!!
I'm going to read volume number 2 of this series. Hoping it's as good as number 1!

Neither fish nor fowl

It is very rarely that I do not finish a book but I just couldn't stand it any more after reading the first few chapters of part 2.
If I wanted to read soft porn, I would look in the 'erotica ' section, not the Westerns. These books are completely spoiled by the gratuitous inclusion of fairly explicit , and repetitive, sexual encounters which have no affect on the plot or character development, but are included purely for titillation. This is a shame as much of the writing is laudable, tensions are created well and the action is fast paced. Plotting leaves a bit to be desired but that is to be expected with the Western genre. The stories do hang together and the protagonist is reasonably well drawn; the relationship between he and his horse is believable and the fights are well paced and descriptive.
However, far too little attention is paid to the social history of the times, leaving the backdrop very disappointing. This is unacceptable in a modern Western
I am sure Brandvold has the makings of a good Western writer providing he starts to take his craft seriously and refrain from reducing his work to the level of 'Confessions of a Cowboy'

Fast paced wild west hero. It was a fun read and hard to put down. Hard to fine a spot to stop. Enjoy the description of many of the towns and the people that made things happen. Some good guys and many bad guys. In this day and time were everyone does not want to offend anyone our hero a 1/2 breed Indian calls things right or wrong and fights for what he believes. Even has a little romance thrown in. It was great that each book had an end but left an opening for more to come. Light fun read taking you back in time when men were men and woman were woman.

A tough man for a tough land filled with bad men.

The plots are spread across the wild West during a time of significant lawlessness and the characters are typical of the people of that time. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy rough and tumble gas action western books. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Yakima Henry series.

He's no Louis Lamour!

Brandvold seems to have a fascination w/ "soiled doves".
He spends too much ink describing female anatomy, and his version of western slang.
Most of the action isn't believable, gratuitous violence with extra graphics which don't add to the story.
If you like western novels, stick to LaMour, Grey, or Johnstone.

Not my kind of book

Gave the book 1 star due to all the profanity and graphic sex and vulgarity which for me took the pleasure out of reading it. This was a 6 book series, but decided to not read the rest of the book after reading book one. I enjoy good westerns, but was really disappointed that the author took this route.

Over the Top, but Entertaining 3.5🌟

The protagonist is bigger, badder, and more capable than his numerous adversaries. The women he encounters are mostly beautiful and quick to share his bed roll. Still the episodes are well written and entertaining. I knocked off a half star, as the book is in serious need of proofreading.

Those thrilling days of yesteryear!

What an adventure! Time travel via the written word into an era I found myself glad I missed. Cover to cover in six days and cat wait to start vol.2

Yakima Henry

Great series about Yakima Henry. I had heard CD’s by Leslie, Peter Brandvols pen name but think reading the actual text was better. A lot of writing in this one series, definitely worth it.

What Fun

What great books, thank you for writing them. They got so wild I had to put last one down for awhile. These are what a great western should be, over the top action and adventure.

Drawn to the Fight

Yakima Henry is a half-breed, not accepted by his tribe and not wanted by the world he lives in until they want his fighting skills. The action is detailed, but very fast. Sought for his firearm skills and ability to travel through unmarked terrain, Yakima is a leader selected when there is no other choice.

Good read lots of action

Boy this author really tells it like it was. The prejudice and how hard life really was for people back in the old west!

Well, in general the story line was interesting. (growing up in N.M., Tx., OK. I'm generally familiar with the areas of events)

That said I'm not sure how to comment: it seems like it may have been co-authored, repetitive events 'shots to the forehead, beautiful women with high libidos, bullet 'grazes' to the main character. The Monks name changing from Ralph to George, choice of drink from beer to Ale.
Spell check poorly done, to long for 'one' book, or 'chapter'. Should have been proof read better.

I don't think I will read the next 'Chapter'

But I shouldn't complain as it was free on Amazon 'Unlimited'.

My evaluation is intended to be constructive, hope it is taken as such by Mr. "Brandvold".

Definitely another western lovers series of outstanding accomplishments by one of the most prolific authors of compassionate stories of ongoing accomplishments. I only wish the Mr.Brandvold would quit using God's name in vain. Yes I am a Christian, and proud of it. The use of His name in vain, demeans the entire book of realistic American western folklore!

Definitely another five star masterpiece by an exceptionally outstanding western author, as Mr. Brandvold pulls no punches in his very heartwarming, and descriptive rendition of Yakima's ongoing demolition of the bad guys throughout his travels. Yakima is the "Walking Tall" hero of the old West. Never one to back down from anyone's challenge, regardless of how many may be threat, regardless of the danger at hand.
Outstanding storylines throughout the entire series of books, and the Author's successful selection of characters definitely portrays their assigned roles to perfection. When I purchased this book, I was unaware there were six successful stories involved but I was impressed, once they began to unfold. Yakima loves hard, but the love of his life is not meant to be. This loss deviates him, and it only stages his lust for vengeance throughout the six compelling stories.
Definitely recommend this compassionately entertaining revelations of realistically western adventures to Al readers, but especially to all of you western addicted fanatics that loves to follow vengeful episodes filled with death dealing success stories. Following Yakima is easy to do, although he keeps the readers on their toes from beginning to end. You non-western readers do yourselves a favor and enjoy this power packed series of unending excitement by an extraordinarily outstanding author of western folklore adventures. 😄

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

If you like westerns, then you will enjoy these books, I have ordered the next two volumes and look forward to reading my way through all of them. Yakima is a man you hope would have actually existed, an honorable killer you would want on your side.

A

Awesome action story based on the old West with an interesting twist as the main character
is a multi-racial in-your-face man of action.
You will become addicted to the dramatic changes of geography and culture conflict as the multiple chapters unfold. Engrossing!

The last book I felt was the best of the 6. Too much descriptive sex, could have been handled in a more brief manner in the entire 6 books.

What a western culture is all about, man has gun will travel.

Henry, part Indian part white, and a large mean. Has a yellow rifle ,black stallion,Arkansas sticker and .44/40. This story is about man loses his horse, his guns and then goes to the adventure of claiming his property. Women go to bed to tie him up. The great read is how he gets it all back.
