Or does love really have nothing to do with it most of the time?
Can unlikely friends grow to be more than that when there are so many forces trying to keep them apart?
Nicole:
I like who I am. And I enjoy my calm organized life just the way that it is. My best friend may enjoy living in a crazy world fueled by money and sex, but that's never been me. My career as an author is finally starting to take off, and I don't have time for surprises right now. This man lives the same life my best friend does, and I have no intensions on disturbing my peace. But I don't think he'll be satisfied just being my friend.
Zion:
She makes me want to be a better person. She even makes me want to be honest with her. But I can't. A friendship is all that she's willing to give because she would never fit in my world. And I wouldn't want her to. She's better than that. I've lost the desire to do what I love, and she somehow brings it back. Her beautiful words and her over all presence grounds me. But what would she say if she knew the truth?
"We weren't supposed to be friends. And we definitely weren't supposed to be more than that..."

Desiree Francies is an extremely creative individual from the Baltimore area who fell in love with reading years ago at Delaware State University where she received her bachelor’s (Go Hornets!) She writes what she would love to read, she writes what she feels is needed, and she writes from a perspective she feels is missing far too often. Desiree sees storylines in people she meets, people she knows, even a stranger from a news coverage possibly. She believes that we are all just a combination of our past experiences, and she loves exploring that to create an in-depth creative reality. She started writing because she simply couldn’t hold the words in any longer. Now that the proverbial flood gates are open, expect several more pieces of written art. This is just the beginning people! Hope you’re along for the ride….
Ok so this is my first read from this author and I loved it!!! Zion and Nic had chemistry that leaped off the page from their first interaction. That chemistry got better as the book went on. There was a will they or won’t they going on and I’ll admit I was starting to get frustrated because I wanted them to get it together, but I think this just shows how great Desiree set the scene. Also the epilogue…..that was pretty perfect. Loved it and I can’t wait to dive into her other books!
Good writer with unique storyline. Love her writing style. I will look out for her books. Looking forward to her next book. Have loved most of what she has written this far.
So I could not put this book down! It was soooo good! It did not come easy for Nicole and Zion, they had to really work to get to a romantic relationship, but the building of their friendship first was invaluable. Now there were a lot of times I wanted to shake Nicole and tell her to go get some therapy so she could hurry it up and get with that fine, sexy Zion. Zion had his issues, but he came to the realization that he needed to make some changes and he put forth the effort to do so. I love music, specifically R&B, so I was loving those poems/lyrics and wish I could have heard them as actual music. (The Epilogue poems were super clever btw!) I also enjoyed Zora, Flo, Coop (who is a hilarious hot mess) and cutie pie Quinton. This was a wonderful read and I can't wait to read more by this author!
What a beautiful story! My heart went out to Nik, when she was stood up by Coop; but meeting Zion was divine intervention. The way they were able fall into conversation, and terrorize those girls was hysterical, but sweet. You could feel the genuineness between these two, that they had never felt with another person. I can't imagine what Nik went through losing both her parents the way that she did. That fact closed her off to feelings, and love although she wanted it badly. Nik was a breath of fresh air for Zion. She was smart, fun and to!d him what she thought, no holding anything back. He needed that, and she intrigued him. Their love story was one for the books. He was so incredibly patient with her, and allowed her to come to him in her own time. Loved it! Keep up the great work, and looking forward to your next one. 👍👍👍
I have this story 5 stars because it was a great story. I liked that the author have us a glimpse of the back story of authors and singers, what they go through to get success and to keep it, and how hard their personal life can be. I love the two characters, Nicole and Zion and how they moved from friends to lovers to their truth Great story, you won't regret reading it. I am getting ready to read the companion book to this one Keep writing great books Desiree
In this book and Prove me wrong great character development. The best part was that each book was interesting and kept my attention because they aren't your A typical romance novel. They are real life real people intrusive stories. The main men are rich and that's cool and extra but I love these books and Desiree I read probably 20 books a month and I thoroughly enjoyed book of your books over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Nicole has a way with words for sure, and she speaks directly to Zion’s heart. I loved it! I was so glad when they finally got on the same page! This book made me smile...a lot! There are some grammatical errors, but it didn’t take away from the story line. It’s a solid d 4.5 stars that I rounded up to 5 stars ⭐️.
I enjoyed everything about this couple. Nicole and Zion, so cute! I mean cute in a good way. Interesting, uncomplicated, and accomplished characters. I loved how steady his love and attention was for her. I love the ending, and what follows the ending. Their journey held me captivated from beginning to the end.
I don’t like to give bad reviews but I definitely feel cheated. This book had so much potential however I feel toyed with. This book has left a very bad taste in my mouth. It just dragged on and on with the same sentiments being repeated in each chapter. Ms. Francies dangled the possibility of love between Nicole and Zion up until the very last chapter. Then when they finally hook up, it was just briefly mentioned, no details whatsoever. She lead us on for the “ENTIRE “ book for nothing. I actually ended up hating the MFC, Nicole. Zion gave so much of himself just to get back nothing but a neurotic little girl in return. Nicole needs some SERIOUS and Extensive therapy. It was so draining. This author is new to me. I’ve never read any of her books. Unfortunately, I’m not interested in reading any more.
Very interesting romantic novel. Strong characters and strong story line. Enjoyed the various locations and change of places where the characters traveled. Krispy Kreme doughnuts should be willing to endorse the book and give out sample to the readers and supporters! Nicolle and Zion had quite a journey "Breaking from Normal". A fantasy and true fictional look at what many young people would dream of for their life; love, devotion, luxury and lots of money and success! Proof reading was not as accurate as it should have been; some words, spelling, and phrases had to be put in their right places and the context of the sentence had to be used to make the reading smoother. Enjoyed the read; stayed up late to complete sections. Looking forward to the next book from Desiree!
