A best friends to lovers romance that delivers! Noah and Kaylee bring the inside jokes, the slow burn, the swoon-worthy romance and that white-hot intensity between the sheets. You don't want to miss this one!
Player.
I will never call him that.
It doesn't matter if he's one of the youngest team captains in college hockey. Or that he's a legend on skates.
And, yeah, I know it's a double entendre. I'm well aware of his reputation for hooking up with half the girls at Westbury. I've had a front row seat to the bunny parade.
Still, I won't call him Player. That's not who he is to me. That's never who he's been to me. He's Noah Foster. My best friend. The boy I grew up with. The guy who knows me better than anyone.
Well, except there is one secret I've never told him. I haven't exactly been open with him about how I'm still a card carrying member of the V-card-club.
But, when Noah needs me to tutor him for his exam, I get an idea. What if I teach him a little science, and the Player teaches me how to play?
I like aspects of this authors writing style. There is some talent there, but he needs to learn to write believably from a woman’s perspective if he wants us to believe his women’s perspective. For example in every scenario in this book when the woman was upset, she ALWAYS apologized. Yes she may have overreacted a little in one situation, but in another she had a reason to be upset. This guy didn’t promise her anything and she was shown a picture of him basically cheating. She was upset. Instead of focusing on making it right and actually trying to win her over, he becomes upset at her for not giving him credit that he didn’t deserve. She had a front tow seat to his insane bed going for 4 or 5 years. This author went over the top. For example he “accidentally” screwed his professors daughter Friday and was kicking another girl out of his bed Monday. That was this. I’ll opened, insert eyeroll. We get it he is a manwhore, thank you for beating us over the head with it. Several references were made to him sleeping with another girl every day. Let’s just say it’s 2 girls a week. Over 4 years that’s about 400 gurls. Considering this kids not a pro, the author didn’t have to go this over the top. But since he did, we have to approach it from this perspective. How she could possibly believe he’d change overnight? He had years to see her and realize how he felt. But he just rubbed girl after girl in her face. She was a virgin of course. She he got to sow his wild oats and she waited for him. He never makes any attempt to win her over. This is why I don’t always like these kinds of books. To make it right the guy needs to make it over the top and fall to his knees. Big screw ups need big apologies I saw something recently that said “your apology needs to be as big as your disrespect was” that really made me think of these types of books. I can handle an a$$hole, for example one of my favorite books is Viscous by LJ Shen. He was a complete manwhore and and a$$hole. But once he realized that he might lose the girl and that he loved her, he fell on his knees and was willing to do anything. He spent months (without getting sex) just trying to do anything that he could for her until she was willing to forgive him. And it was for something similar to what happened in this book. In this book there was no grand gesture. SHE ended up apologizing for overreacting and not giving him trust that he hadn’t earned. I had a major WTF moment. I couldn’t enjoy the ending because there was nothing romantic at all and she got nothing for deciding to look past everything she’d had to witness for years. If she had been enough for him, why wasn’t she enough sooner? That’s a lot of baggage to get over without him doing something big to prove that she was the only one that he wanted. Kind of a waste, because unlike many of the authors I’ve read lately, this guy really does have talent. But unfortunately I can tell by the blurb of the next book that this wasn’t a one-off. This guy has decided that to write a decent love interest, he has to be an unrepentant manwhore, while the girl is a virgin it close to it, insert eyeroll. I cannot for the life of me understand why authors gi this route. No the guy doesn’t have to be a virgin but good lord a man doesn’t have to let his dick rule his life to show his virility. It’s a turnoff honestly. I just picture all of the skanky chicks that are probably mixed in there. And it’s kind of pathetic that they don’t have any substance to them. I live a sexy alpha guy, but it’s so much sexier if they save the good stuff for the heroine. It’s awesome if she can have some of his firsts too? The next book is already showing that it will follow this pattern. I don’t know. I might read it just to see if the author has more depth or decides to make the end worth the read. Make the apology as big as the disrespect was. We already know that he has screwing ransoms for years to “fuc* her out of his system”. When the finally get together a real woman wouldn’t consider that a compliment. When you get with a manwhore everyone watches you thinking you are pathetic thinking you’re going to get cheated on. And feeling sorry for you that you’ve dated someone that you can’t go out in public without running into someone that they have screwed. This author has tried to pretend that that’s not a thing... I’m sorry but we readers need more to end a book than the guys finally deciding to settle for the chick in question. Most of us just aren’t that shallow or basic. Like the guys in your novels, you need to try harder.
WOW! STEAMY. ADDICTIVE. SWEET. COLLEGE ROMANCE. First off this is my first E.Cleveland book, I was on the hunt for a really good steamy college sports book and when I found this, I read the excerpt and thought I would try it out. I haven't had a lot of luck recently with other hockey romances but this one I actually really loved. I think I've become really picky with my hockey books since reading the off campus series, but this one is in the ring for me. I loved their friendship sooooo much! I love Noah, he's a total player, which is his nickname btw. I love how he has a player mentality but still actually cares for Kaylee, like no matter what he's always going to be there for her. I love that type of relationship in my romance novels and I can't wait for book two!
Noah and Kaylee are the sweetest friends. Their friendship is one that started when they were young and continued into college. When Noah spends too much time sleeping with girls and needs a science tutor to pass his midterm to stay not he hockey team. He knows if he asks Kaylee, she'd help him because she knows how important hockey is to her best friend. Kaylee is not the most social student, she spends all her time working and doing homework and hardly goes out, so when Noah asks for help she really has no time, but he finds a way. Both Kaylee and Noah have this undeniable connection, but it's not in a relationship type of way. They have a trusting connection that two people kindle when they've been friends for so long. It takes one night of Noah convincing Kaylee to have a few sweet drinks for her to admit she still holds her V Card and for helping him with his science, she wants help with sex. She doesn't know much about it but needs a tutor in being more social and how to have sex. The tips and tricks. & should he agree? Or does he think it will ruin their friendship for good?
✨✨✨Noah and Kaylee bring the inside jokes, the slow burn, the swoon-worthy romance and that white-hot intensity between the sheets. Another really good best friends to lovers romance. SEX AND FEELING always run together , you can't have one without the other. Surely it can't happen when there's a solid friendship behind . NOT A CHANCE I enjoyed it so much, I really recommend it. I GAVE IT 4.25 STARS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I CAN'T WAIT TO READ ABOUT GUCCI'S STORY✨✨✨
Scrolling through KU I came across another book by this author (the cover sucked me in - which was weird because it was a guy with a beard, shirtless, mind you, but still a beard (which I'm not always into) but I liked the look. Turns out there are a couple before that one (though it's hard to know the order since there isn't one here on goodreads but I think I have it right).
Anyway, pretty decent story. I'm not sure I've read many romances written by men. It was entertaining. There were some continuity issues with the story but not enough to make me dislike the story.
This is a series about a bunch of hockey players in college, all with nicknames. Player, Gucci, Griff, Blaze, etc. This first story is about Player and his best friend Kaylee. They've been friends since they were little. Though both have felt an attraction for each other they never acted on it. However, Kaylee is tired of being a virgin and asks Noah to show her how to have sex. She wants her first time to be with someone she trusts and not some random Tinder hookup.
The love scenes were a bit hot, especially the one in the locker room.
I had a bit of an issue with the heroine when she didn't trust in Noah. She knows he was a player, yeah but she never considered him that. He was her friend, the person who had been there for her her entire night, her best friend. However, she believes some random IG post, thinking that Noah cheated on her. The guy she's known her entire life and has always trusted. It was explained away as she was insecure but it still bothered me because this is someone she trusted her body with, that she knew would treat her right. It just aggravated me.
Other than that and the continuity issues listed above, it was pretty enjoyable. I'll probably give the other books a try as well.
I read this book as part of an ARC program for my honest review.
Noah is the star hockey player who sleeps with everyone and Kaylee is his best friend and is still a virgin. She wants Noah to be her first.
The premise of this book is good. I enjoyed the story. The characters were good and I felt I got to know them. I had a hard time putting the book down. My only problem is the amount of detail started to bug me. I want to read a story and get lost and feel a part of. When the detail is too much I start to glaze over and start skipping sentences. There is a fine line between too little and too much detail. This book had too much.
Great friends to lovers/sports romance (two of my favorite tropes in one) Noah and Kaylee have been friends forever and they have always been there for each other no matter what. What happens when Kaylee asks Noah to be her first? Will he be her first? Will it change things? You will have to read to find out. I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I didn't make it very long before giving this one up. The book opens with the hero just having slept with a bunny, he can't remember her name, his roommates are yelling at him to go to class, he can't fail out. The hero whines it's not use the professor chased after him with a broom after finding him with his daughter and some kind of sex was going on a couple days ago. His BFF, who is a girl and knows what a dog he is, seems to make excuses for him, yet she is awkward AF around any male. I'm sure these 2 will end up together, but I just can't go through the book to find out how/why, this one just isn't for me.
Noah has a reputation for being a player both on the ice and off the ice. When his grades start to jeopardize his ability to play hockey he needs help and who better than his best friend Kaylee.
Kaylee couldn’t be more different from Noah as she is more comfortable with books rather than people. She agrees to help him, but she wants something in return and their relationship will never be the same.
Humor, heat and heart all combine into a story that will keep you captivated until the last page.
Eh. This is more like a 1.5 for me. The premise of the book is one of my more favorite romance tropes, friends to lovers. I was very excited to read this. But, it fell flat for me about half way through. I could also tell that this had been written by a guy. Nothing bad about that...but...yeah, the dialogue and how the females in the book responded to things seemed more from a male perspective.
I'm glad, though, that I'm giving new readers a chance. One of my goals this summer. I'm just not sure this author is one I'll read again.
I enjoyed this book. I loved Noah and Kaylee’s story. Noah and Kaylee are best friends. Noah is failing a class and for him to pass the class he has to pass the exam. He gets Kaylee to help him pass. Kaylee is a virgin and she wants Noah to teach her. Will he teach her and will their friendship last?
How did you do it.. How did you go and make me a hockey fan? I think it's when Player turned back to Noah. Oh yes he's the marrying kind because She's never going to be left in the cold.
These guys have just become my newest addiction. Steamy, NHL Romance, awesome characters, brilliant writing, way more chemistry between these two than you could wish for . Player and his best friend take their friendship a step further and break all the rules. Outstanding book!!
Typical NA Sports romance and friends to lovers trope. With easy to like characters, and not much thought needed, I finished this book within a day and felt satisfied, even though I ended up skimming through several parts.
Aspects I Liked: The character building. I felt all characters had solid personalities, even the supporting characters had unique round personalities. I assume this is because each hockey player will receive their own book, but nevertheless I always appreciate thoughtful writing for characters.
This book was an easy love story. There wasn’t any great hardship or trauma to overcome. I love/hate when characters are the only ones in the way of their love. Because how true is that for the real world. I mean fear and not clear communication are real reasons love never gets a chance/fails all the time in the real world. Sometimes the world is ending or your dad is a serial killer or whatever; crazy reasons are sometimes constructed to get in the way of love. As an anxious person, I know my brain metaphorically cock blocks me more than any supervillain or sexy supermodel ever could.
Aspects I didn’t love (spoilers) :
Overall I was debating between 3 or 4 out of 5 stars for this one. Though I felt this story followed the tropes and didn’t have any special or deep aspects which usually push me to review books higher, this is a book I’d definitely pick up again. I hate how Goodreads doesn’t allow for half stars because this would be a solid 3.5/5 and I’d call it a day. Ugh! Anyways 4 stars it is.
Edit: I'm so indecisive, but I'm going back to 3/5 stars. Idk why I have anxiety about this. It really is a solid read, but I don't love love it. And having looked at other reviewers scales, 3 is more fitting for my appreciation of this book than 4.
More clarification rambling below
4 is close to 5, and no way is this close to a perfect novel for me. (Look at the review above.) Okay, I'm done now.
This was definitely a win for me. Noah and Kaylee were swoon worthy. If you’ve read The Deal by Elle Kennedy...this is very similar. So if you loved that you will love this.
I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end! Kaylee and Noah were a beautiful love story and somewhere in the process they destroyed their friendship by crossing the line.
This was really enjoyable. It was easy to read through and I liked the writing, it all flowed. I liked the relationship between Kaylee and Noah. I saw a review on here saying they didn't like that the author wrote Kaylee apologizing ... I mean she was in the wrong? I'm just so tired of women getting written in books not apologizing when they're in the wrong and the men have to be the one to chase them. As if women don't make mistakes either. Should she have apologized about how she reacted when a rando text him a tit pic? Yeah because SHE wanted to do this. SHE said she wasn't gonna change yet the morning after she treats him rudely over something he had no control of? I think it was handled correctly. She apologized for reacting badly because it got in her head. Then SHE accused him of cheating on her. I completely side with him. The entire book she says she always saw the good in him, despite him being a player on and off the ice. Yet in the instances that it gets tested, she completely believes that persona that she emphasizes isn't the real Noah. So yes, she needed to apologize like a mature sane person because SHE WAS WRONG ABOUT HER ACCUSATION. PERIOD. And again, I think it was handled maturely, they talked it over after cooling down the next day. Done and done. Also with that review, yeah he WAS a manwhore, now he's not and he's fully committed to Kaylee, who cares about his past. He's changed. ALSO if you're pissed about the direction of the story because he sleeps around and she's a virgin then maybe don't pick it up just to bash it cause all of that was in the synopsis. I can't with some people
Noah and Kaylee have been best friends forever. They've always been close - now that they're in college, they are each pursuing their own goals but have kept their friendship going.
Cool and popular on campus, Noah is a collegiate hockey superstar, and has taken advantage of all that brings with it. He loves the competition and action of the game and definitely enjoys spending time with the puck bunnies. Outwardly, he is confident and even a bit cocky. He earned his nickname Player for a reason.
Kaylee is a bit more serious, concentrating on her studies. Her insecurities make her socially awkward and uncomfortable around people she doesn't know, especially men. Lonely and insecure, she can't seem to keep her quirkiness under wraps long enough to make that connection she wants so badly.
In danger of losing his spot on the hockey team due to poor grades and bad behavior, Noah turns to his academically gifted BFF to help him. While they've had a platonic relationship over the years, as they spend time together during tutoring sessions, old feelings of attraction between them begin to resurface. As the lines of friendship they've drawn between them become blurred, what has always been an easy and supportive relationship morphs into something new.
This is a sweet and sensitive romance with all the feels. As Noah and Kaylee stumble through the evolution of their relationship into something new, they develop into complex, multi-layered characters. They are more similar than either would like to believe - they both seem independent and strong but hide feelings of inadequacy. For all of Noah's bravado, Kaylee is the only person whom he cares about so much that she can unman him. I'm sure all of us have felt that type of uncertainty at many times in our lives.
Five stars for this well-written, sweet romance. I can't wait to read about the next couple in this group. If the story is half as good a 'Player,' it will be a must-read.
This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
I honestly didn’t entirely hate the book. But this exact plot has definitely been done waaayyyy better (cough cough go read the Off Campus series — The Deal! )
My favorite part was when the Noah’s best friend saves him a seat in science class in the first chapter. And then never attends class ever again. 😂 Like… I’m not sure if I just missed an pivotal detail or what, but she stopped going to class with him after that scene. I even tried to rationalize it by thinking she just walks home faster than him, but this girl was lying on her bed fully engrossed in a book. Almost as if she… DOESN’T HAVE CLASS. And then as with all college sports romances, he needs a tutor, but she’s somehow too busy to do it. Even though SHE WOULD ALSO HAVE TO STUDY FOR THE SAME CLASS BECAUSE FOR TWO SECONDS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK SHE WAS THERE SITTING IN THE CHAIR NEXT TO HIM. But sure sis. You go look at your calendar. Or when he gets his test grade back and he has to go find her. If your friend was in your class wouldn’t you just…. Idk… turn your body to speak to them instead of running all the way to their dorm room. Where she asks him all sorts of questions about class as if she… DOESN’T ATTEND IT.
Or when Noah completely calls her the wrong name at the end. like.. not even as part of the plot. The author just straight up wrote the wrong freakin name. This is the point where my brain collapsed in on itself because I couldn’t process what was happening anymore.
BUT… I did chuckle a few times and I finished it. So it wasn’t completely horrible. It just wasn’t good.

This beautiful, friends-to-lovers was really wonderful. I found it easy to fall for Noah and Kaylee as they finally decided to acknowledge those long unvoiced feelings and desires and took the chance to move from childhood friends to more. I felt for these two as they dealt with the doubts, fears and pain that comes from putting it all out there, taking that chance and stepping out of your comfort zone. Kaylee cute, quirky, smart and introverted. To start Noah was everything that his nickname and book title implies, a player, but there is more to him than that. He is sexy and cocky but also can be very sweet and surprisingly vulnerable. I think one of my favorite things about this couple was that they both had insecurities. That really appealed to me because it's real and genuine. Whether you're the bookworm or the captain of the hockey team, we all have that voice in are head telling us we aren't good enough or there is just something wrong with us and that is something that I think needs to be shown more and I think this author did an amazing job with that. There is a great cast of secondary characters in this book that I would love to see get their own books because you can really see the raw potential there already. If you enjoy sweet and steamy reads that will give you a big case of "The Feels" you definitely want to grab this one! This is my sincere review that I am posting of my own accord.
Eddie creates believable characters again. The banter between the main characters Kaylee and Noah is terrific. With romance books, the sex scenes can take over the book but in this book they are incidental to the main story. The buildup is great to these scenes though. I have always loved Eddie’s writing style and he continues to grow as a writer. When he sets a scene, it is well written and puts you in the picture. If you haven’t had a chance yet, he has created a “video” for marketing this books and thought it was brilliant. 5 stars all the way!
Cute, funny and sweet. My only problem is Kaylee (heroine). 😒 I had the opposite reaction to the “arguments” between Player/Noah and Kaylee than some reviewers.
Some reviewers are remarking that the heroine apologizes too often and seem to insinuate that Noah should talk it out or something...umm. Nope. Kaylee was way too worked up. He did the right thing by leaving because it would’ve escalated. You can’t have a fruitful discussion with crazy and Kaylee was irrational and wouldn’t have listened to him. It would’ve just gotten worse.
And...every apology Kaylee made to Noah was necessary. Why? Because it was all about her feelings of self worth and nothing he did. She’d just verbally attack, calm down and realize she was wrong in an assumption and how she acted, and then apologize for her crazy.
The character was really insecure and that insecurity..well...kaylee jumped to conclusions. She never once said...hey this is my best friend for most of my life who I don’t want to lose. Let me sit down with him and explain what’s bothering me and my fears. I think had she done that he would’ve reassured her. Actually he does reassure her every time she apologizes and tells him her fears and what’s bothering her. She starts out in the book going to him because of her trust in him and knowing he’d never hurt her intentionally. Yet by mid book she treats him like they just met that year. And the person she thinks him to be...is not flattering and makes me wonder why she’s friends with him. At one point she thinks he can’t help himself for poor behavior (that he didn’t engage in) and I was like man this biotch is condescending and he could do way better.
He was pretty patient and loving toward her. And at one point she verbally attacked him and called him a liar and told him to go away. He told her he’d never lied and she should know that the pic was fake. It’s pretty obvious to the reader what clue she missed. She finally figured out she was in the wrong (again!) and started blowing up his phone with texts and messages. Even though it was late and she’d just told him to get lost...seriously...she needed meds to even out that bipolar action.
The crazy heroine is what dropped this Book a point for me. It’s still good..but the melodrama could have been toned way down.
