Sabers, Sails, and Murder

Rate this book
Ghosts do exist, only Rylee hopes she is done seeing them.

After handling an antique saber breaks a centuries-old curse, Rylee finds herself haunted by the town’s not so famous pirate. As if finding a way to help the ghost to the afterlife isn’t difficult enough, his blade is used to commit a murder.

When the body is found near her uncle’s boat, and he becomes the main suspect, Rylee is drawn into another supernatural sleuthing adventure. To make matters worse, her grandmother’s matchmaking plans go awry, and Logan, the town’s new hot detective, isn’t the only person pursuing her.

Can Rylee and her friends solve the murder in time to enjoy the annual pirate festival? Or will she end up being haunted by a three-hundred-year-old spirit forever?

This was even better than the first book! I really loved the character of Martin the ghost pirate and for some reason could only picture him as another favorite pirate whose name is Jack, which made his funny lines even funnier. He was a way more interesting ghost than the one in the first book, lol. I enjoyed how Rylee and her two besties worked together on the case then finally let their other friends in on helping.

I hadn't guessed the killer, but the showdown was good, and the ending was really extra sweet.

Quest with a ghostly pirate

Breaking an old curse gets Rylee the ghost of the local pirate. Together, with her friends, the search for his mate and whoever killed her uncle's biggest competator. Love this series and I hope to see a lot more of Rylee and her friends.

Annoying Rylee

I'm new to this author and read the two books in this series but I have to say that the main character Rylee really irritated me. She was afraid of her own shadow and with the best tool at her disposal to solve a murder mystery, a ghost who can go anywhere, see and hear things without being seen, all she did was try to stifle the offered help. I much preferred her two best friends who had far more character. I struggled with both books at first as I thought the plot lines were too slow with lots of confusing characters but did complete both books.

Rylee makes the mistake of touching an antique saber which breaks the curse binding a 300-year-old pirate ghost to his saber. Even worse, the blade is used to commit a murder. With the body found near her uncle’s boat, her uncle becomes the logical suspect!

To make the chaos even worse, Rylee’s grandmother decides to do a little matchmaking and things go very wrong. Now it isn’t just Logan, the good-looking detective, who is chasing her! Can Rylee track down the murderer? Can she un-do the mess her grandmother has made? Will the pirate become a permanent haunting fixture in her life?

Absolutely fun and crazy mystery that the reader will definitely enjoy! There is lots going on, and blending in the supernatural elements makes the book perfect!

I got as far as 28% and stopped. I didn't care for the characters or the plot.

Amazon synopsis:
After handling an antique saber breaks a centuries-old curse, Rylee finds herself haunted by the town’s not-so-famous pirate. Helping the ghost find his afterlife seems easy until his saber is found in a body near her uncle’s boat.

Finding a killer to prove her uncle’s innocence is difficult, but things get a lot more challenging when her grandmother’s matchmaking plans go awry, and the town’s new detective isn’t the only person pursuing her.

Can Rylee and her friends solve the murder in time to enjoy the annual pirate festival? Or will she end up being haunted by a three-hundred-year-old spirit forever?

Rylee is getting ready for Cumberpatch Cove’s Annual Pirate Festival when she handles a sword, breaking an ancient curse. She is surprised by the appearance of a ghost. When her uncle is accused of murder she must team up with her friends and that mischievous spirit to clear Uncle Max’s name. The problem is how to get the proof without revealing her secret ability. I laughed at the pranks and enjoyed the mystery.

I loved this fun cosy mystery, from cats dressed as pirates to sabres magically moving to different places. The twists were were fabulous as we're the characters, especially Martin and his humour and old time language mixed with modern day. It's quirky and entertaining, with wonderful events, spooky appearances and the odd magical element. The subject matter is interesting, it made me smile and I got a lot of enjoyment reading this second book, can't wait to see what will occur in the next one and who's spirit will turn up.

Rylee finds herself haunted by a 300 year old ghost when the curse binding him to his saber is broken when Rylee touches it. A body found next to The boat owned by Rylee’s Uncle makes him a prime suspect in the murder. Can Rylee and her friends find the murderer? A great read, well written with great characters. Seems like the reluctant ghost whisperer has met another mischievous spirit- a pirate, who seems a little attached to a sword he owned in life, and who seems to be missing a little something or someone

Sabres clash, ring in battle, disappear after a murder, and reappear in suspicious place. A mild romance or two seem to develop

Great friends, family and spirit connection fun in a KU package!

Intertaining

This is a very cute series and I hope that the author will keep them coming. The characters are believing. I do wish that her friends would get to see some sort of Spector eventually. I do like to dislike Myra in the spoofs through. I love lavender and want to know about her intense dislike of Riley thou. Great plot about a girl who sees spirits after touching an artifact.

A great second book in this series. For Rylee things never goes as planned, a botched blind date and a haunted saber brings new challenges and a new adventure in this series. Excited to see what the next adventure will involve.

I was captivated by this story. Sabers, ghosts and murder, whats a girl to do. Solve the murder to save her Uncle from being charged with murder, and help a ghost move on to the afterlife, of course. The ghost is an ornery old coot, but funny. I hope this series continues for several more books.

A pirate’s sword is at the center of this mystery. Rylee isn’t happy to find out that she is still a ghost magnet, which makes for a fun story! This second book was a good and fun as the first. I’m hoping that there will be more, because I love these characters and want more!

Enjoyed so much.

So much fun. Delightful. Characters mostly likable. The only thing that bothers me is the unimaginative main characters . Woman with powers "witch" is girlfriend man "detective" " sheriff " is boyfriend. Really? Plot flowed well and was well thought out. There were plenty of twists and surprises. Satisfying ending.

Second in the series about a young lady with an eccentric family that believes in magic. Rylee is a I have to see it to believe it. She gets her chance when her father sends her a gift for her birthday. It zaps her and gives her the ability to see and communicate with spirits.. While the both books have good story lines they seem a little slow to me. Good reads on cold snowy days.

Fun mystery and a splash of romance.

I've really enjoyed this novel, and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. An accidental touch is all it takes to get Rylee into swashbuckling mischief and adventure.

Enjoyed reading this story. Thought the storyline was interesting and Rylee and her friends are likeable and funny. The host though was the hit of the book. Recommend reading this series.

Seeing a dead body is bad. Seeing a ghost and then a dead body is worse. Seeing a ghost, a dead body and then having your uncle accused of murder must surely be the absolute pits. And that was what happened to Rylee - seeing his uncle's business rival floating in the water, meeting the famous/infamous Captain Cumberpatch and then watching the police look sideways at her Uncle Max who had recently argued with the now deceased Jack.

I did enjoy this book and wonder what it would be like to visit a town like this, one which is centred around the pirate and his life; where everything is about or related to the swashbuckling hero, where people dressed like pirates and celebrate the founding of their pirate town. It must be so much fun. Anyone know how I get there?
