Takase Junko is shaping up to be one of my favorite new authors in Japan currently. This book was excellent throughout. The main characters concerns about what real love is and should be and explored thoroughly and work well against the main pregnancy plot. There are some really clever lines throughout and this ended up being both funny and moving at the same time. A lot of the main character’s thoughts and concerns about what it means to give birth/be a parent are really poignant and similar to things that I have felt before as well. As with the other book I’ve read by Takase, the social criticism is subtle but works really well.
