I know this book by heart! I spent months making PowerPoint slides of English File for the online classes of the language institute I work for. It's a good place to start for beginners who wish to concentrate on British English. Otherwise, I'm sure there are many other good books out there that could assist you in your goal. Also as much as I believe it's a thorough book for beginners, I think it's the kind you need guidance to get through. So if you would like to self-study, then again you should look for other options.

I'm not going to rate this book simply because it doesn't make sense. I didn't read this one specifically to enjoy or to learn. It was just part of my job. Though I believe if I were a beginner student of English, I would give this book at least a 4!
