This is a report, published in 2005, on a field study of untouchability practices in 565 villages in eleven states of India. The result is that, though it may be less of an issue than in times past, untouchability is still widely practiced (or was a few years ago) and manifests itself in a wide variety of ways from village to village. An important study and a well written account of it. I would like to know what has happened since it's publication.
