The Executioner Knights are back! Alexander de Sherrington seeks to marry a daughter of the great Christopher de Lohr (Rise of the Defender). But not if King John has anything to say about it!

Alexander de Sherrington, the man affectionately referred to as ‘Sherry’ by his friends, is off on the greatest adventure of his life… and his target is Lady Christin de Lohr.

Lovely and vivacious, Christin is as head-strong as her mother but born with her father’s innate sense of politics. She fostered in the finest homes and proved herself to be smart, intuitive, and calm under pressure. Unbeknownst to her father, William Marshal recruited Christin into his network of spies and even as she serves a de Lohr ally, the House of de Winter, as a lady in waiting for Lady de Winter, she completes missions at the Marshal’s directive.

Enter Alexander de Sherrington.

He is intrigued with the beautiful new spy, and he and Christin are thrown together due to necessity. But Alexander soon realizes there is something very special about the daughter of Christopher de Lohr. As a romance blossoms, King John has his own plans for Christin – marrying her to his bastard son to undermine Christopher’s power.

The only one who can stop the marriage is Christin herself.

Join Alexander and Christin, Christopher and David, and the rest of the Marshal and de Lohr allies in this epic adventure of intrigue and romance that pushes the bonds of trust between allies. It’s Medieval Mayhem in 13th Century England!

I enjoyed this book immensely. It had me laughing, crying, sighing, and shouting. There were so many feels, and some angst--I mean, it had it all. Then why did I give it four stars if it's so grand? Because I couldn't get past the enormous age gap between Sherry and Christin. It was a point of contention for Christin's father, Christopher de Lohr, who Sherry served with at The Levant, like 20 years before. Christin is 18! Does she have daddy issues or is Sherry some sort of pervert? Honestly, neither of those scenarios seemed to be the deal, thank goodness, but it's something I just couldn't come to terms with. He's going to leave her a widow for many years just in the natural course of life. I probably shouldn't think about it like that, but I just didn't like the age difference.

Aside from that, the story rocked. Christin works for William Marshal as does her brother, Peter, and their father. So does Sherry for that matter. She's not formally trained like Susanna is from the previous book in the series, but she can certainly hold her own. She's gutsy, courageous, loyal, and hopelessly in love with Alexander de Sherrington, or Sherry, as his friends call him. She wasn't over the top with anything and I really did like her, but banging one of your dad's best friends just didn't hit with me.

Sherry is a man of all seasons. He's got a great sense of humor, is handsome, intelligent, tough, and never backs down. Nobody wants to mess with him for very good reasons. He's also a loner.

When the king decides he wants to marry off Christin to his bastard son, things really start happening. The king is at Norwich castle for his birthday party and people are coming from all over the country for the festivities. But King John is a buffoon that makes rash decisions and doesn't really think about the consequences.

Enter Sean de Lara, the king's personal body guard, and confidant. He is a force to be reckoned with and a spy for The Marshal. He's at odds with his brother, Kevin, who is also on this mission. Kevin is vocal about his disappointment and disdain for Sean and let's his animosity shine without regard to who is around. Sean is known as Lord of the Shadows and is famous for his brutality, but he has an innate sense of right and wrong and is fair and just. How I want him to get a happily ever after. I felt so bad for him. There is one scene in particular with him and Kevin that had me in tears.

This book is filled with fantastic characters, some angst, some true romance, plenty of feels, love for friends, family, and country, a bit of steam, and a super ending that had me in tears all over again. The age difference between Sherry and Christin was too much for me, as I said before, but other than that, this book was fire! So good.

My favorite of the Executioner Knights, William Marshal's assassin spies, has finally fallen in love. Alexander "Sherry" de Sherrington, the fiercest and deadliest of the Executioner Knights, not only has fallen, but it is the daughter of one of the most well known, powerful and respected knights of legend in England's history, formerly King Richard's "Lion Claw" and Great Protector, Christoper de Lohr ("Rise of the Defender"). Cristin de Lohr is not only Chris' oldest child, she is also secretly one of Marshal's spies known as "The Ghost." Complicating everything, besides the fact that Christopher de Lohr has no idea his angelic looking daughter is a trained assassin, Cristin is also in King John's cross-hairs as a pawn in John's continued storied history of the power struggle between he and Christopher de Lohr. Throw into the mix Sean de Lara ("Lord of Shadows), King John's personal guard and loyal assassin, who secretly is also a double agent for William Marshal, and you have a complex, tension filled, volatile, unpredictable situation which is literally a powder keg waiting to explode which could bring down the entire country of England. Yowser!

Oh my goodness, there were so many things going on in this fantastic story. All three of the previous Executioner Knights books ("By the Unholy Hand," "The Mountain Dark," and "Starless") seemed to come to a head in this story. So many pieces of the puzzle found their places. Kevin and Sean de Lara's big showdown, visiting with favorite characters Christopher de Lohr and his brother, David, Sherry and Cristin's dilemma and their sweet, unconventional romance. It was mindbogglingly good! Another Kathryn Le Veque classic medieval tale!

Fall into 13th Century Medieval England with adventure, treachery, humor, an extraordinary love and all that is exciting, as you enter the world of Kathryn Le Veque! Two spies, who work to protect England and King John come together in one of the best stories I have read this year!
One of the deadliest of the Executioner Knights, Sherry is well respected and feared but has a heavy burden of the past. He feels he may never marry but often fate has another plan!
Lady Christin de Lohr, has almost a double life. A lady in waiting for the Queen but more important, she is a spy, the same as Sherry, and has become known as "the ghost" due to her artful escapes.
When they first meet, Sherry is taken with her beauty and intelligence and she with him. But when King has plans to marry Christin off to one of his choosing, he must protect her and finds he wants her for himself!
As always, I love every book I have read by this author and always look forward to her next. Sigh...

Christin de Lohr is secretly a spy in the William Marshall world. Beautiful, smart and deadly. Working on a important mission with the Executioners Knights, Alexander de Sherrington has a chance to see Christin in action and develops a new respect for the lovely Christin. When the King decides that he is going to marry Christin to his bastard son everyone comes together to prevent all out war between the King and Christopher de Lohr Christins father. Alexander (Sherry) is falling hard for Christin this the adventure begins! I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this book! Christin is spectacular and Sherry is is the epitome of the strong handsome knight. I was literally laughing out loud at times and when you read the book you will understand. I have read all of the Executioner Knights books and have loved them all, but this one was definitely special. I wish I could give it more than five stars, definitely a must read!

At a feast William Marshal and all of his spies including Christin de Lohr, who is not only a lady in waiting but secretly a spy too. Christin is known as “the Ghost” in his network of spies and does anything William Marshal asks even kills for him. This doesn’t go unnoticed from Alexander “Sherry” de Sherrington. When Christin discovers that there is a true threat to England; she is asked to return back to Norwich Castle and figure out what that threat is. When Christin finally gets back King John notices Christin and want her for his bastard son. Christin now must stop the threat to England while trying to stop King John’s nefarious plans for her; luckily Alexander is there to help but as he gets to know Christin he slowly falls for her. Alexander knows that he puts both of them including their life in jeopardy and plus Christin’s father the famed Christopher de Lohr will never agree to them being together. Can Christin and Alexander stop the King while fighting the feelings they have for each other and stay alive in the end?
The story is masterfully written with wonderful plot twists and in-depth character development. The book just moves with no drag and much excitement. Everything amazingly comes to life that it isn’t hard to imagine all of it. The villains and even the King are even artfully drawn that you can’t help but hate them. While Christin the brave courageous spunky heroine is one that is hard not to like. Christin might be young and naïve but mentally she makes up for that she’s bright intelligent and definitely her father’s daughter. She’d be a lot of fun to hang out with too even though it could turn dangerous so maybe a nice quiet tea would not be up her alley. Alexander does seem a bit old for her which seems to be the only issue but it isn’t really disgusting or icky because both of them are intellectually well together. This is a rollicking medieval adventuresome story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and one that is hard to put down!

A Time of End

Kathryn Le Veque never disappoints! I was so excited when I found out that “Sherry” was finally getting to share his highly anticipated story. I laughed so hard at the hilarious actions and banter between Christen, Sherry, and the other characters. While you will definitely get the giggles, you will also need the box of tissues. Kathryn has a gift for touching on all the emotions and pulling them to the forefront! This is definitely a Do Not Miss book! Be sure to get your copy today! 🤗

Cristin de Lara might only be eighteen years old but she's already been working as a spy for William Marshall for two years.  Her nickname is the Ghost because she never leaves a trace.  However with her father coming to an important event where she will be working, she will have to be even more careful. If he finds out what she's been doing he'll take her home and lock her up to keep her safe.

Alexander Sherrington also works for William Marshall . He is one of the Executioner Knights,  with a reputation as the most deadly.  They are all working to protect England against all threats, and they are sometimes from surprising people.

This is an absolutely wonderful story.  So much excitement and adventure.  Our heroine is happy in her work and very good at it.  She also knows how important it is to work as a team. The things she does will have you and her fellow characters in stitches.  We get to meet up with lots of old friends and great heroes from other books.

As usual this author has us going from giggling to crying,  sometimes in unexpected places. I have bags under my eyes today because I could not put the book down until I finished it in the early hours of the morning.

Absolutely Fantastic.

Alexander de Sherrington, known to his friends affectionately as 'Sherry', is an exceptional knight, who works as one of the Executioner Knights for William Marshal.
But while in the Marshal's employ, he meets Christin de Lohr, daughter of his good friend Christopher de Lohr whom he fought with twenty years before in the Levant and who also serves the Marshal.
Christin is not only smart, bright and calm under pressure, she is also absolutely beautiful and this little woman catches Sherry's eye and heart like he's never experienced before.
As they confess their feelings to each other, the depraved and licentious King John has his eye on Christin in a most unsavoury way.
And so this fast paced adventure takes off in chapter one and doesn't stop until the end of the book.
Kathryn Le Veque has written an epic adventure that has the added delight of including Christopher, David and Peter de Lohr, Max, Kress, Achilles, Suzanne, Cai, Bric, Kevin and Sean de Lara.
All these wonderful characters bring their camaraderie, humour, friendship, love and trust to this dramatic story, which makes this love story even more special.
Kathryn also vividly describes King John and the atmosphere surrounding those loyal to him and the atmosphere of his court, bringing this era to life.
I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down!

Kathryn Le Veque is a master at medieval romance and even though you can read these books as standalones, I tend to read series in order because of my attachment to the characters. As I get to know the main characters in each book, I’m also getting to know some of the secondary characters that will get their own story and the ones from previous books that come back as a supporting cast. This is something that attracts me to a series and keeps me coming back for more. This book centers on Sherry, one of the executioner knights that likes to work alone but could be one of the deadliest of the group and Christin, the eldest daughter of Christopher de Lohr. Unknown to Christopher, his daughter has been an agent for William Marshal for 2 years, and she is known as The Ghost.

This is probably one of the funniest books I’ve read from this author and there were a couple times I laughed out loud and I actually stayed up way past normal, having to get to the end. Action, danger and a corrupt King round out this group, along with the returning characters and Alexander de Sherrington and Christin will have to battle their way to their HEA in more ways than one, and it’s a great time getting there. This book deserves more than 5 Stars.

Great story.

Alexander is one of the Executioner knights serving The Marshal. Christin is Christopher de Lohr’s daughter and also an agent for The Marshal. They are headed to Norwich Castle in order to celebrate the kings birthday. The king takes interest in Christin and they out a plan in place to dissuade him but it doesn’t work. The king is determined to marry Christin to his son and will abduct her to make it happen. That sets other events in motion to stop it. By this time Alexander and Christin are in love and he will do whatever it takes to save her. There are plenty of familiar characters in this story; Max, Kress, Kevin, Peter, Cai, Christopher and David, and Sean. Ic ant wait to read Sean’s story. My one complaint about this book is that I thought I remembered Alexander had a brother named Estienne in the last book. He was mentioned a couple of times in that book when Alexander said he had not spoken with him in 15 years. This book only mentioned his twin brothers who had been killed in battle.

This One, Particularly Humorous

I don't review all of Kathryn's books because I'm in too much of a hurry to get the next one started. Awful of me I know, I feel bad. This one however had me in giggle fits! I believe it was Chapter 10 especially I could nearly read it was so funny. I love all of her characters and these Executioner Knights have become some of my now LaVeque favorites. Their ladies are so well matched up to them as being no wilting violets or damsels in distress so there's a good story to be had. This book has the ever nasty and disgusting King John lurking about causing havok wherever he goes. A good read. On to Book 5!

I recommend having a box of tissues to hand when you read this book. Kathryn has a wonderful way of writing and is one of the best authors I have read. Kathryn is a master of her craft and from the first book I ever read about Ajax de Velt I was hooked.
A Time of End is a story of incredible heroism and bravery based on a very turbulent time of England's history. For all we know there might have been such knights that Kathryn writes about. We will never know. That said the story of Alexander and Christin is a very believable one. It is an exciting, daring, romantic, tear jerker of a story and I absolutely loved it!!!

Sherry and Christin’s story is another brilliant instalment in this series. Both work for William Marshall but have never really got to know each other until they work together on a mission. Christin then garners the attention of King John for one of his plots to thwart Christopher de Lohr. Sherry then pledges to save her from this horrific plot and at the same time realises that Christin is the only woman for him. There is quite an age difference and convincing Christopher de Lohr that Christin is his soul mate proves quite a task for Alexander de Sherringham. It has its touching moments too, when Sherry returns home to his ancestral home it is heartbreaking. Loved it.

I LOVED THIS BOOK

This story has so much happening!!
I loved Sherry already from previous book(s) but I love him even more after reading his love story. Christin is a lucky lady to have won the heart of this man.
There’s a lot of adventure, twists and turns and great moments! Healing between brothers, strong family ties, bonds of brothers in arms! It’s a beautiful story! Tough, strong, honorable men. Christin is an amazing woman and a dynamite spy!
A GREAT BOOK!

Heartbreak ends

This is a bit of a different trope, but crowded with standard plots. The characters are glorious, the scenery divine, and the progression of the former through the latter builds to a heartbreaking crescendo that then melts away into a new life, when the lovers move on to the beginning of their own lives.

A Lot of Smiles

I found myself smiling frequently while I read this book. As always there was a little adventure, a little twist at end, and of course a little romance.
I read through the names of the children and I can see an adventure in the future dedicated to Sophia. Thanks for being my go to author when I’m having trouble settling into a new book.

Kathryn Le Veque is an amazing Medieval writer. I believe this is one of my favorite series. I love Alexander de Sherrington. This is by far the best one for me. The leader the strongest and the loner. Christin de Lohr beautiful, smart, worrier. I love how the author has no age limit. This is a beautiful love story with some laughs out louds. This series is a must read. Happy Reading!

Great read as usual . Hard to believe a King could be so hated by so many

Well usually I am just interested in the history and the love story of which there was plenty in this story. But the end and the unselfish act of Sherry had the tears falling something that rarely happens reading one of Kathryn’s books.

Intrigue and Romance

Not only were the \Executioner Knights involved with espionage and murder but Christin de Long was also !much to her father's chagrin. Christin falls in love with Alexander, a man twice her age who always preferred to work alone.

A great story

This was a great story! While there was the usual violence of that time period, there was also much humor. Many of Ms. Le Veque's characters were given greater depth, especially Sean and Kevin DeLara.
