Had a hard time rating this. I’ll say it’s more of a 3.5.
It started off soo good. I would even say I thought it was going to be a 5 star read. But then the MCs fought so much and Jax has one too many asshole moments and Saona apologized one too many times. For things she didn’t need to apologize for. Her husband had been cheating on her for their entire 6 year marriage. She’s away on business and meets Jax in a bar where he works. They end up having a one night stand that turned into a friendship that turned into a relationship. She had been treated badly by her husband for so long I wish she would have been given more of a backbone when it came to Jax.
Anyway I was still liking it but then the third act break up completely ruined it for me. Jax breaks up with her because she makes soo much more money than he does and her mom is a raging bitch and says he’s not good enough for her and he freaking listens to her mom and decides she’s better off without him. He texts her for a week apologizing and that’s it! He doesn’t try to fix it after that. He’s all like well she’s ignoring me so I guess she doesn’t care about me after all. Like dude you knew her and her mom had issues and yet you broke up with her because of what her mom said and you’re mad she’s ignoring you?! Like try harder!!! He doesn’t try harder. No he decides that while they are broken up it’s a good idea to go on a date with a woman his bff has been trying to hook him up with for forever. So you don’t have time to try and get the love of your life back but you have time to take another girl on a date?!!!! This was made better only by the fact that he was celibate during their 5 months split and that Saona herself also went on dates but come on!!! Completely ruined it for me with that. Also he didn’t even try and get her back until her sister came to talk some sense into him. And I was so mad at everyone telling her she needed to go and talk to him. Like nah it was not her duty to try and fix something that he broke!! So frustrating.
There was some OW drama. She comes to town to surprise him and sees him talking to some girl and thinks he flirting (he kind of was but says he wasn’t) he got mad at her for surprising him and not telling him she was coming 😒. His ex shows up at his house. Idk why that was even brought up. She’s pregnant by another man and they’ve been broken up a while so there’s so reason for her to show up, it was definitely unnecessary.
The fact that she didn’t put her mother in her place drove me bat shit crazy. I get it. I totally get she was raised to respect her mother but her mother was one of the worst human beings and she just let her walk all over her. That’s also a reason for the missing stars.
Anyway I was going to read the next one because I loved Sierra but the way this one played out had me really frustrated so I’m not sure if I’m going to.
NO CHEATING BETWEEN MCS ( FMC husband cheats on her and her sisters husband cheats also) OW DRAMA (see above) OM DRAMA (her husband wants her back and won’t leave her alone) THIRD ACT BREAK UP (soo annoying. Apart for 5 months both celibate but both also date) FIRST PERSON DUAL POV HFN
SOME NIGHTS by J.L. Lora is the story of Saona and Jax. Saona is dealing with the hurt of a cheating husband but she takes action to seal the deal by getting a divorce from him and working to try to move on. When she meets Jax a bartender they set out to have a hot encounter but it seems to flow into something more when they start texting and meeting up again. Jax is a hard-worker who works two jobs to fix up a house along with taken care of his family. These two are somewhat of a opposite spectrum which sometimes leads to doubts but their chemistry is off the charts. Really enjoyed their story~
Saona is one of those characters you don't expect to love, but can't seem to help yourself. She's a survivor. Pain has been a shadow all of her life. From the people she loves, to the obstacles that stand in her way. She's determined not to let heartache win. Whether the good girl with a heart of gold or the bad girl searching for a place in the world, she appeals to every person that needs a way to hope. Some Nights is the story of a dreamer hoping to find salvation for the broken heart she harbors and the powerful woman she hopes to become. An inspirational look at the heart of a champion.
Saona finds out that her husband is cheating on her, and she leaves him. While on a business trip Saona meets sexy bartender Jax, which leads to more than just a one night stand. The chemistry between these two is explosive. This is a well written flawless story, which is humorous, entertaining, and a sexy read, which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I cannot wait to read more of this talented authors’ work, and highly recommend for all readers.
It’s not often a try a new to me author I have never heard of before, but something compelled me to open up Some Nights. The main character was of Hispanic decent which is something I have not encountered much in the romance novels I read.. but as a Venezuelan I felt connected to Saona in her mannerisms. While the story had some great elements, a Very wealthy Hispanic woman, a sexy bartender, an interesting storyline. The execution fell a little flat for me. I was disappointed in the ending. I thought the author could have done more to rekindle what was broken. I wanted more drama and a bigger plot twist. I did gasp once and told my husband to wait a minute but things just progressed at a normal pace for me. Some Nights was a quick read with great character development!
Ready for a book that will pull you in? Here you go. This is the story of Saona and Jax. Saona finds out about her husbands cheating ways and kicks him to the curb. On a night when she is dealing with it while on a business trip she meets the hotel bartender Jax and sparks fly. She does something that she has never done and invites him to her room for a one night stand. Risking his job, which Jax would never think to do, he accepts her invitation and this one time fling turns into more. Soon there are feelings and late night texts and calls. Saona and Jax are two different people from two different worlds. But they are what each other needs. They just have to realize it. I loved this story. Saona was my favorite character. So many times in romance stories the woman who is cheated on blames herself or considers herself damaged. Not Saona. She knows her worth and her soon to be ex husband is no good. She files for divorce right away and refuses to give him another chance (no matter how much she is pressured from others). I was cheering for her. She is a great example a confident and strong woman and a great role model for anyone who is wronged. I also fell in love with Jax. What a sweetheart! Working two jobs while fixing up a house he bought and also making sure his mom and aunt are taken care of. Talk about a great guy! His only down fall is he puts too much into the fact he doesn't make as much as Saona. I just wanna shake him for letting his self doubt take over. You will get so lost in this story that when you get to the end you'll feel like you read a novella. But it's not a novella. It's a full blown novel of strength, passion, acceptance and finding ones own happiness.
Saona Torres is in Baltimore on business when she meets Jackson Alexander Hamilton (Jax), the bartender at her hotel. Saona has just found out that her husband has been cheating on her and decides to divorce him. Jax has known his own heartache for his ex left him and is pregnant by the guy she left him for and is pregnant.
Saona, a good girl decides that a one night stand with Jax is what she needs. Jax agreed and what starts as a one night stand evolves into something more. What follows is an emotion filled book of betrayals, a freeloading husband and mother-in-law mother, a mother who is determined that she needs to forgive her husband, a sister who deals with her husband's infidelity by cheating herself as well as lots of descriptive, erotic sex.
Saona is revealed as a wealthy woman, a most giving person who has panic attacks. Jax is more than a bartender or a government worker. He loves and cares for his mother and aunt. Saona's mother is very manipulative but is hiding her own secret. Saona's sister, Sierra, is trying to make her marriage work because of her children.
Is a real relationship between Saona and Jax possible? Does Saona listen to her mother or continue with the divorce? Does Saona's husband leave quietly? What happens with her sister, Sierra, and her cheating husband?
Those questions and so many other questions are answered. Still, there are some things left unresolved. I enjoyed this book enough to buy the next book in the series, which is Sierra's story.
It only took one book for me to become extremely addicted to J.L. Lora with her talented writing style, and even more books later, I don't even look at any sort of synopsis before I know with certainty that I have to read it. Some Nights is another amazing story with a heroine, Saona, that I couldn't love more if I tried, not to mention a secondary made up of her bad a** sister who kept me laughing hard. It all starts when good girl, Saona, decides that she's had enough when she catches her husband cheating on her, so she leaves him. While away for work, she's getting a drink in the bar at her hotel when she meets the super hot bartender, Jax, and she does something that she has never done before, picked him up for a hook up. They spend a night together that has sexy times that light the sheets on fire, and afterwards, they start talking to each other on the phone & face time. It starts her on a journey of discovery that makes her stronger, as she's stopped letting her mother, and other people dictating her decisions for her life. However, there's always drama that ensues when a mother like hers won't let it go, so it made a frustratingly push & pull between her & Jax that drove me nuts. It also provided some twists to get the f-bombs dropping, as I was furious on her behalf. So yeah, this story provided everything that I like to check off for the perfect read, and I'm praying that Saona's sister gets a story next! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Saona is faced with the ultimate betrayal by her husband and she shows her strength by walking away and filing for divorce. She is successful career woman making her own money that her husband has mooched off of for years. Her sister Sierra is a true spitfire, encouraging her to embrace a one-night stand with the sexy bartender, Jax. Jax is shell shocked by Saona when she walks into his bar, she carries a sexy confidence that is hard for him to resist. Their initial meeting is awkwardly funny as Saona shows she is out of practice at flirting. When they do connect, it is combustible and off the charts sexy. Will this become something more than one night? He lives in Baltimore, she is in New York. Jax is working 2 jobs to renovate an old house and take care of his mother. He is a true gentleman and knows how to treat a woman, something that reminds Saona of her father. Then we have Saona’s mother, her behavior surprised me and I truly wanted to punch her. I love the sister bond between Saona and Sierra, these two have weathered a lot together and found a way to be stronger with each other’s support. I went on a drama filled roller coaster as these characters worked through all their insecurities, doubts and issues while trying to realize that love is possible. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Title: Some Nights Series: Standalone Author: J. L. Lora Genre: Adult and Erotic Romance Pages: 255 Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed by Jennifer Copeland for Janise Jivin’ Blog
Some Nights by J.L. Lora was a fantastic read! This is the first book that I have by this author and it won’t be my last. J.L. Lora does not disappoint with this book Some Nights. I couldn’t put my kindle down. Some Nights will leave you with wanting to read more. As you can tell, I really enjoyed the book. Some Nights explores the budding relationship between Saona and Jax. Saona is dealing with the break-up of her marriage when her she catches her husband cheating on her in a cheap motel. She goes on her business trip and has a drink at the bar where she meets Jax. Jax is the bartender at the hotel where she is staying. The sparks between them fly and the chemistry is off the chart. Saona boldly asks Jax to come to her hotel room. Do Saona and Jax give in to the chemistry and the sparks? You will have to read Some Nights to find out! Some Nights brings out all kinds of emotions and I could relate to the characters in this book. I laughed and cried when reading Some Nights. Some Nights will have you ready to fight the ex-husband David and Saona’s mother. Some Nights has all that you want in a romance novel. It has lots of steamy sex and a great storyline. Make sure you check out Some Nights.
Saona meets Jax the night she decides to divorce her cheating husband. Instantly attracted to the sexy bartender, she acts quite unlike herself when she invites him to her room. Jax knows he's risking his job to follow through with her invitation but the attraction he has for her is too strong to resist. But what starts out as a one night stand grows into something more - and not even distance seems to matter.
Lora has created a cast of characters that work. Saona is great: sexy, confident, and no longer willing to suffer a marriage that is failing. I love the relationship she has with her sister, Sienna, and how both support each other, especially against their mother, who is overbearing. Jax is also great: he's confident, knows what he wants, and caring. He treats Saona terrifically. For a relationship that starts off as a one time thing, it was great to see it evolve. While I was disappointed by the point of conflict between Jax and Saona, it made sense, given who each of the characters are. I just wish the resolution to their conflict didn't seem more like a whimper, rather than a bang.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more of JL Lora's books.
When the first page of a book starts with a drink recipe then you know it’s going to be good. Some Nights is a great story about betrayal, heartbreak and finding the one that you are truly meant to be with. With the drinks flowing and the sex hot and heavy this story will leave you wanting one of those cool COCKtails. I give Some Nights by J.L. Lora 5-stars
Saona Torres has just learned that her husband of six years is cheating on her, not just cheating but cheating on her with hookers. Deciding on divorcing her husband Saona figures the best way to get over a man is to get under another one but being a good girl, she doesn’t know if she really has it in her. At the hotel bar Saona sees Jax, the gorgeous bartender that seems to only has eyes for her. Saona takes a leap and invites Jax to her room. As the two get to know each other over the months to come their feelings grow, but it’s obvious to some how different they are. With others trying to get in their way and influence their relationship will they be able to make it through more than just some of the nights?
I fell in love with J.L. Lora when I read The Summer I Loved You. So, when I discovered she was releasing Some Nights, I couldn't wait to start it. Lora has a way of luring you in with characters that are realistic and easy to relate to.
Saona was a very strong-minded character, and I liked her right off. Finally reaching her limit with her cheating husband, Saona stood her ground and moved on. She refused to let him take her down. Though she met Jax at a vulnerable time in her life, who could say no to him? Talk about a hot bartender! The connection between the two of them was instant and there was no denying the chemistry. Jax and Saona were HOT together and Lora described the scenes between them flawlessly. The heat and desire could be felt coming off the pages.
Some Nights was hard to put down. The writing is flawless and the story itself is so engaging, you can't stop at the end of one chapter. You keep needing more and more! Definitely addicting and one I'd recommend to romance fans. Lora is an author you need to one-click!
Saona is a good woman whose husband has treated her badly. When she goes to her hotel bar to help recover from his latest mistreatment, she meets Jax. Emboldened by the sexual chemistry rampant between them, Saona makes Jax a proposition, which leads her down a path she didn't know she needed. As Jax struggles to be the man he believes Saona needs, doubts plague their relationship. Is their new relationship strong enough? Or will it be reduced to some nights?
J. L. Lora has fully converted me into a fan. She writes stories of strong women that, even when they get dealt sh!tty hands in life, they struggle through pain and tears to get out on top. Her characters are not perfect, nor do they always do what is considered to be morally or politically correct, but their humanity is what makes you fall in love with them. Saona & Jax are another pair of great characters from J.L. Lora's pen that I invite you to meet and fall in love with over a few drinks ;)
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
When Saona realizes that her marriage and their life together is nothing but a lie she stops in at a hotel bar for a drink. While there she meets the bartender Jax and she decides that living your life to the expectations of others has only brought her pain, so she invites him to her room for the night.
Jax knows that meeting Saona in her room could cause him to lose his job there is something about her that he is unable to deny. What was supposed to be a one night stand has started to evolve into more but can two such different people ever be more than temporary?
I liked how these characters were different then you see in a lot of stories. Saona is a strong wealthy Hispanic woman while Jax has a heart of gold, puts family first but struggles financially but together they give each other exactly what they need. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
book was generally okay, however there seem to be a wee bit of something that is lacking.
first of all, what does the heroine work as? did i totally miss it or misread it? because it's obvious she earn quite a certain amount of money and then it was mentioned in the later half that she made half a million dollars every year. so exactly what does she do for work? and the hero said bartending was his side job, and he work as a federal employee. like what kind of federal employee is he? it's such a generic term because there are lots of positions within the federal government isn't it?
secondly, i think certain things like slightly more details could have been included. for example, the characters are talking or messaging each other a lot since they live in different state, but most of the conversations are simply narrated out. it was like "he told me this...", "she told me this..." etc. it would have been better if the conversations were actually written out.
overall, okay read but could have been better.

Some Nights by J. L. Lora surprised me. At first I felt like it was going to be a book that I would end up putting down. I gave it a chance and boy am I glad I did. This book was out of this world. I LOVED it. Soana is amazing. She has been let down and pushed around but she no longer wants to be that woman. She takes her life into her own hands and finds Jax who opens a whole new world for her.
Jax finds lust at first sight with Soana once he saw her there was no going back. This book has some extremely HOTT chemistry flowing throughout. I adored it and devoured it within hours! You will not put this book down.
A very well written and developed journey from an unhealthy love and relationships to the imperfectly perfect combination. The story was filled with different emotions. Saona goes to Boston after catcheing her husband cheating and meets Jax struggles with people and his insecurities about him not being good enough to be with her. They have great sizzling chemistry that is sexy with a strong connection. Saona and Jax were great characters, they may have been opposites but they were good for one another.

An incredible second chance story. Saona is divorcing her cheating husband. Never been one to do the wrong thing, she takes a chance on having a one night stand. Jax is a hard working bartender who has plans of his own. Their one night stand might turn into something if their differences don’t keep them apart.
Enjoyed the story. It had everything, laughter, family, struggles, love, etc. Was hooked from the being.
She has always been good. She was cheated on, used and put on. She has had enough now. She is going to be a bad girl and it will be with the new not bartender. Will she really do it? Will it help her? See how she will get on

Lately all I've read are books that were fair or slightly better. The last five books were just disappointing so when I started this book, I wasn't expecting much. Wow was I surprised! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and hated putting it down to go to work. I absolutely loved everything about this book. Read this book! Shirley
These two people live different lives, but when they get together for a "one and done" they seem to get together time and again. There are issues in their lives that can tear them apart, will they allow it?

I enjoyed this story thoroughly. It was very well written and developed from beginning to end. Anyone looking for a story the journey from an unhealthy love and relationships to the imperfectly perfect combination of the 2, this is it.
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.

The characters are relatable, I really do like Jax, Saona not so much, she's too argumentative and always want to win. If this is the author's first book its a good effort. I'll read the next book in the series.
This is my first book from this author and I loved it! I enjoyed the chemistry between Jax and Saona. But I loved Sierra the most. I loved the random things that came out of her mouth.
