I don't believe there's been editing at all, so poor.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the stories and the characters. Down to earth people with all the emotions and drama. Huge racism involved, but, this was indicative of the time frame involved, so it was\is reality.
I read a lot of books and I must say Dallas Barnes is one of the best Authors that I've read in some time! Mr Barnes knows how to be very funny and and still be serious at the same time.
With, sexist slant... And, pejorative racial overtones and verbiage... From, 'another era'... Of LAPD's 'multi-faceted' and 'forever changing' history and makeup...
This was a very engrossing Series, well written and full of pathos, hard to put down. I enjoyed the stories and could identify with the characters as I also was a homicide investigator
Dallas Barnes cannot write great books fast enough for me. He is the master of suspense and in my opinion the very best contemporary author and I read many different good authors, but none compare to Mr. Barnes
All most all of the stories collected here were reworked into episodes of the TV series Hunter. You might be better off firing up Peacock or some other steamer and watching them that way.
This collection includes 5 fast-paced and edgy cop thrillers written by former LAPD Detective Dallas Barnes in the 80's. Barnes' novels have been adapted into episodes of popular cop shows like HUNTER and TJ HOOKER (Both shows adapted variations of the serial rapist story "City of Passion"). Barnes has also written screenplays for plenty of shows. So, essentially, these tales have a good technical foundation to match the tough tales. I have only read the first couple so far and the only thing keeping me from giving a full 5-star review is the fact that while reading the first two stories there seemed to be a narrative gap that might be due to its transition from paperback to Kindle formats. I would be reading a section and there would be a jump in the narrative that doesn't appear to be the fault of the writer. It just looks as though either whomever was transcribing the story messed up or there was an error in the digital formatting and transcription. I've re-read the areas and my Kindle App is working perfectly and the pages are numbered correctly. That's why I think it's a transcription error. Still, it's a interesting collection to read if you want fast paced cop thrillers.
What a ride ! Sometimes it rains , sometimes it pours , and sometimes the trail is dry as the desert . When the good guys go after the bad guys it is not always solved in an hour. And sometimes the trail grows cold and another case pops up and then the two twist into a rollercoaster ride and wham stops at the bottom then jerks and glides to a stop .
Hardcore Cop Tales from Firsthand Experience! Although not a big fan of cop stories, I couldn't put these stories down once I started; perhaps it's Barnes' realistic firsthand experience of the sometimes dangerous and often thankless job of our law enforcement personnel. Interesting, Entertaining and educational.
Have some police in the family, so over the years I've heard tales similar to those in this collection. Well written, comical at times, always entertaining. Well done, Dallas Barnes.
