Two months have passed since the nefarious events surrounding the latest Nine School Competition, and the time for its cerebral counterpart, the Thesis Competition, is fast approaching. Chosen to represent First High, Tatsuya will surely have his work cut out for him even if everything went to plan. Of course, nothing ever does, which might explain the curious letter containing a suspicious request for Tatsuya...
By now the reader of the series should know what to expect - good worldbuilding and character development, but at times a bit detail orientated. I found the behind the scenes plotting a bit confusing. New factions, characters and connections with earlier books appeared out of nowhere, and while it does not clash with earlier books, it does confuse matters. I am especially curious how the author keeps things straight on who knows what and why. Sometimes a faction knows things only knowns by very few people, sometimes they don't and I cannot see rhyme and reason on why. Still, if I ignore the plotting in the background and just focus on events, character development, action and humour I still greatly enjoy the book.
