Rescued from alien slavers, the only place she feels safe is in the brawny arms of a big, gruff cyborg...

Astrophysicist Dr. Jayna Lennox's life imploded the day her ship was attacked by aliens. Through months of captivity, she's survived by shutting down and not feeling. Then she's freed by the House of Rone cyborgs and finds herself in the arms of huge, tough Mace. Struggling to heal, Mace is the only thing that makes her feel safe. The only person who makes her feel like she isn't broken. But there are more of her crew members imprisoned in Carthago's desert, and Jayna will have to delve into her darkest memories to help save them!

Born to fight and bred for rage, Mace barely survived his gang-ridden homeworld. Thanks to Imperator Magnus Rone, he's found a place at the House of Rone. Unlike the other cyborgs, he feels, but only anger and annoyance. When a small, wounded human woman works her way under his skin, Mace finds himself feeling things he's never felt before... along with a powerful need to keep her safe!

Jayna vows to help find her fellow humans, even if it means revisiting her nightmares and being part of a dangerous mission into the desert. But as the passion between her and Mace explodes, she finds herself with two battles on her hands: the battle to free the humans from their captors, and the war to win Mace's scarred heart!

Defender is book two in the Galactic Gladiators; House of Rone series by Anna Hackett.

This is another amazing story in the series. Hackett delivers another action-packed and fast-paced read. In Sentinel, book 1, we rescued another human women, Jayna, and in Defender we get to see her and Mace's romance.

Mace can’t stop thinking about Jayna after rescuing her. Jayna is broken. She’s been beaten down, but she’s not broken. Mace is so sweet with Jayna. He pushes her to come out of her shell. Their romance is so sweet and endearing. I loved seeing how Jayna changes Mace and vis versa.

As is the way, we get new information on the missing humans and the hunt for Edull City is on.

Defender is engaging and so much fun! The world keeps expanding and more characters are introduced. Their is no shortage of action and romance.

I know when I'm in the mood for a romance that's action packed and fast paced that this author will deliver. This the latest in her sci fi series about humans trapped on a planet that venerates Gladiators does work as a standalone as the author manages to seamlessly drop background information in . I do feel though that the series as a whole adds just so much fun if the reader can read in order.
Whether you start here or not this story has romance, vile aliens and wickedly cool cyborgs who make Arnie seem terribly out of date ! I applaud the authors imagination because the things her Cyborgs can do are truly amazing. Perhaps for this reader the romance wasn't my favourite but as usual it's a plot that brings together a couple who both deserve love and happiness and there's nothing I enjoy more than a happy ending !
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

With intense action sequences, and the raw emotions of frustration, pain, and suffering, all interspersed with moments of unexpected romance.

Defender (Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone #2) is a captivating sci-fi universe that masterfully weaves together an array of compelling elements. The narrative includes a diverse cast of bizarre creatures, skilled gladiators, kidnapped humans and harrowing trials that put characters to the ultimate test.

The multi-perspective storytelling is a significant strength of this narrative, allowing readers to explore the inner thoughts and feelings of various characters. This depth enriches the overall experience, creating a more immersive and well-rounded story.

Life as a gladiator is portrayed as incredibly dark and perilous, where every moment is shadowed by deception and hidden agendas but they will do anything for the one that has brought them back to life.

If you are in search of a gripping read that offers a blend of excitement and emotional depth, I highly recommend diving into this book.

Series: Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone #2
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Astrophysicist Dr. Jayna Lennox's life imploded when her ship was attacked by alien slavers. After months of captivity she is freed by the House of Rone. But she has spent so much time hiding in her mind that she isn’t coping with the new changes well. The only person who seems to help is the grumpy cyborg Mace.

“Healing is rarely clean and tidy. It’ll be messy and hard, but keep trying and you’ll get there.”

Jayna is beaten down but not broken. She struggles to overcome the trauma of being a slave and experimented on. Mace is the one person who isn’t babying her or treating her as broken. He helps her realize she will never be the same person she was before being kidnapped but you take it day by day until you are better. I really loved how caring Mace was. He may push her but he realizes it's the only way she will get past her fear. Mace is just a big grumpy cyborg who has been hiding a squishy heart. I really liked him.

As with all books in this series, this was nonstop action and romance. The Edull are a fascinating and terrible alien species. Hackett always does an amazing job at creating fascinating and disturbing villains in her books.

Overall, this was a great addition to the series and I can’t wait to jump into the next book. I love reading about these emotionless cyborgs fall in love.

Another book read in the Galactic Gladiator series by Anna Hackett. Now we are in the House of Rone arena and they are cyborgs as well as Gladiators. A quick run down on what this SciFi series is about. Space exploration is a thing and Earth is part of this exploration. A space ship as well as a space station are attracted by s strange species and the women and a few men are stolen and sold into slavery, the rest killed. Each book is about the rescue of one of the prisoners a group of Gladiators from across the galaxy. Once they are rescued, they learn they can never go back as the kidnappers entered Earth's space through a wormhole that has since disappeared. The Earth women now, one at a time, fall in love with their rescuers and make a new home on this new planet. As each book builds on the previous book, I wouldn't recommend starting in the middle but start with the first book in the first first series.

This one, Defender, is about the Cyborg Mace and Jayna, who had been held, tortured and experimented on. She was rescued at the end of the previous book. Because of what she went through, the only person she feels safe with is Mace, the Cyborg who rescued her. Mace is big and one scary dude. The only real feelings he has zre anger and rage so he's a bit leery of his growing feelings of something else for Jayna.

These books are all pretty formulatic but I don't really care. The women are often broken but strong and they make it back in large part because of the love and protection they get from their respective Gladiators. These books are very readable and a really great way to visit another galaxy and I have such great fun reading them. They are available on KU and if you're at all a fan of SciFi romance, you simply must give these ones a try.

Jayna and Mace

Another human woman rescued and brought back to reality by a loner cyborg. Then they’re off to rescue more women.

So good but very formula. You know what you’re gonna get and it’s great.

Why is Anna Hackett so good? Defender is another fabulous edition to the Galactic Gladiators series. Here we have Jayne, a rescued Earth woman who is dealing with the trauma of her experience, and Mace, a big beefy unfeeling cyborg. It is amazing watching them come together since initially, she feels everything and he tries to suppress his feelings. But Mace tries to help Jayne heal, as he can relate to some degree to how she feels. The action and suspense is wonderful and the antagonists make you cheer at their downfall. There is a sweet surprise in the ending. This is one of my favorites in the series. I didn’t think I could say that anymore.

Now it's time for big, badass Mace to get a slice of some Earthling love!

Jayna should fear the huge, deadly and ot alltogether humanoid Mace. But he swooped in and saved her when she was at her lowest and she has felt nothing but safe with him ever since. But she can't rely on him babsitting her forever. She has to get back on her feet, find some kind of job and make peace with the fact that she is never going home to Earth.

Mace is more than the sum of his parts. He may be part cyborg but he is still a man and the man most definately wants Jayna. He might not think he deserve a HEA like Jax and Magnus but fate is a fickle mistress and she says he's getting one!

The Edull are back in all their heinous glory and are making life hard for Jayna. But she is also getting to know the large extended "family" of House of Rone and learning that the other Earthlings have made a home for themselves. Mace and Jayna are a bit of amatched pair, they are both as broken on the inside as the outside, but neither are as irrepairable as they think.

Well paced, intriguing world, engaging characters and brimful of passion! Bring on Acton!

Captured again, who would've thought /s, sorry but I'm irritated as I know that this is going to happen in these and I still read them with slight enjoyment on the storyline and personal relationships, as that is what they are along with finding the other Earthlings, but instead they are always capture, battles to the extreme and no that human woman thrown to the other side and slammed into the wall will not be up fighting in the next minute, oh, that might have been the last book, oh this one... capture then fight after fight in the outskirts to "save" his woman from the sludge though the sludge isn't stopping even though he is doing what they say. Oh, and now he has the ability to win, not when they are captured? Doesn't make sense at all. Still reading, I guess I want to find all the Earthlings too. So OK but and might be better than the last, 2 1/2 but I'm not bumping it up. Didn't like the couple enough for that. And the erotic is tame.

Thinking more about it, 2 stars max, as the same thing from the last book, rant **sigh**. I have to stop here but probably will read on as I own a couple more. I started out liking the Gladiator books to a point but... I might have had my fill.

Defender is book two in the Galactic Gladiators House of Rone series by Anna Hackett and is a spinoff of the Galactic Gladiators series,

Astrophysicist Dr. Jayna Lennox’s life imploded the day her ship was attacked by the Edull. Through months of captivity, she’s survived, but the torture and terror had her shutting down and closing off any feelings.

Mace is a trusted member of the House of Rone cyborgs inner circle. He was born on a planet run by gangs and was used as a fighter in their deadly rings. His cyborg enhancements are a result of internal injuries he received during those fights. His alien blood gave him a larger and stronger physical structure, and his cyborg enhancements gave him surprising fighting abilities.

Mace can’t stop thinking about Jayna after rescuing her. Jayna has been beaten down, but she’s not completely broken. When she remembers the aliens who captured her have other human women, she teams up with Mace to find and rescue them. Naturally, they are immediately attracted to each other, so in between rescuing the women, there's plenty of hot cyborg sex.

As with all books in this series, "Defender" was nonstop action and romance. The Edull are a fascinating and terrible alien species. Hackett always does an amazing job at creating disturbing villains in her books. There is a predictability to these stories but that's what makes them so popular. While I prefer the original series, Galactic Gladiators, I am enjoying catching up with them as they make frequent cameos in the House of Rone series.

Another amazing story about cyborgs and their human mates

Defender is the second book in the House of Rone series about cyborgs rescuing human from slavery. Mace is a cyborg that was raised on a criminal gang planet and forced to fight others to death. He was rescue by Maximus. Maybe was rescued by Endul scientists who tortured her. She feels safe with Mace. Can these two broken people change from their past?

These 2 new characters from the last book are relatable, unique, and fascinating personalities. The plot is a fast paced drama with twist that keeps the reader glued to the book until the end.I like this story because it creates a continuous drama that has vivid descriptive scenes of a world and it's people of cyborgs, human, and different variety of aliens?

Highly recommended.

Defender

Another tough cyborg learns to feel. As he says, “I don’t have the ability to care, to soften. If it was ever a part of me, it was beaten out of me when I was young". But of course the MFC teaches him how.

It never pays to think about how these HEA romance relationships actually weather years together, but sometimes I can't help it and wonder how dealing with someone with so little access to his emotions would play out over time. And what's even more interesting to me is that I have no desire to read that story. But I do wonder.

So, on to the next story. Super emotionless cyborg and compulsively happy heroine. As she says, “You can teach me about Carthago and the House of Rone.” And he response, “Yes. And you can explain perplexing emotional reactions to me".

3.5 stars.

This one is about Mace, the one with internal cybergenic organs and Jayna (the astrophysicist who got her hand cut off during her capture). And so, we have another supposedly unemotional cyborg falling in love with another human female.

From Jayna we learned of at least another human female captive of the Edull, the alien race who uses scrap metal to build robots and enslaves other races for experimental robotic enhancements. So we have quite a few fights between the cyborgs and robots... Cool!

Another easy and action-pack instalment from the House of Rone. I'm looking forward to Acton's story next, since he seems to be the most unemotional of all the cyborgs so far. It should be fun to see him succumb.

Psychological disruption

For the first few chapters of this book, I was quite interested in how Jayna would get better from the psychological trauma as a result of her captivity and accepting her freedom. There are some very intense moments that made me feel deep sympathy (a few tears!) for the character and how isolated and alone she feels. Then she recovers much too quickly and the story goes back to the usual action/romance/saving another Earth woman of this series. Some intense moments where Jayna relives her trauma but otherwise average, not outstanding story for this series.

This is another great story in this series! Lots of steamy romance and action. Jayna is saved by the cyborgs from the House of Rome. She immediately feels safe with the cyborg named Mace. Mace fights his attraction to Jayna mainly because she makes him feel things he never thought he could feel. They, along with others from the House of Rone, work to save other humans from the evil Edulls. Together Jayna and Mace find safety and find they can depend on each other and finally love. Now on the next in this exciting series!

Jayna And Mace

As the House of Rone cyborgs continue their mission to find and rescue any humans being held by the evil Edull, Mace is overwhelmed by his feelings for the rescued human, Jayna. He's not sure if he's worthy of her, but Jayna knows how fleeting happiness can be, and that life can turn on a dime. She's planning on grabbing her cyborg and never getting go.
Highly recommend.

Story line is very different from most fantasy alien stories.
I love that the woman in the stories have courage and each character have their own story not sounding repetitive.

Defender...

Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone book 2. Cyborgs aren't known to be emotional but this book is an emotional roller coaster. Smexy, dramatic, angsty and hopeful. Mace is a cyborg and Jayna is human. He helped to rescue her and after, helped her to heal. Jayna in return taught him to love. This book gave me all the feels.
