The Easy Way

Rate this book
Camden Seaver had it easy - a loving family, plenty of money, and the freedom to follow his dreams while his older brother, Sebastian, took charge of the family business. But when a tragic plane crash killed his parents, all the responsibilities he never wanted landed firmly on his shoulders. Now saddled with his crazy, grief-stricken brother and his dad’s multimillion dollar company, Cam doesn’t trust in dreams anymore. He’s forgotten what “easy” feels like.

FBI Agent Kendrick “Cort” Cortland learned the hard way that he couldn’t depend on anyone but himself. Before joining the FBI, the one constant in his life was his foster brother, Damon - and then Damon disappeared. Now, Cort is determined to find his brother and to bring down the man responsible for ruining Damon’s life, Sebastian Seaver. He’s got nothing left to lose.

When Cort’s investigation leads him to Seaver Tech...and Camden Seaver...what started as a quest for revenge and a one-night deception quickly turns into far more than either man bargained for. But how can either man trust in something that seems so easy? As long-held secrets are revealed, the attraction between Cam and Cort becomes combustible - an undeniable love that will either make or destroy them. Will Cam and Cort let their conflicting loyalties drive them apart? Or will they decide that sometimes love is the easy way?

May Archer is a new to me author, which is always risky, but because this book is available on KU, I gave it a go. And I'm really glad I did!

The Easy Way is sweet and sexy, with a side of mystery.

I saw the villain coming a mile away, but that didn't dampen my enjoyment of the story; half the fun was getting there.

Camden and Cort (Kendrick Cortland, but don't call him Kenny) have sizzling chemistry, and Archer doesn't skimp on the steam. Camden is so hot when he begs, and I loved Cort's possessive, growly side.

The story has serious angst potential, but in the end the men decide to TRUST first, ask questions later. Maybe that's foolhardy, but it's also kind of romantic.

Cam, especially, has a lot to lose. Cort's not honest with him initially, but Cam can't resist Cort's adorable flirting.

The ending felt slightly rushed, with some loose ends left dangling. There's an epilogue set a few months down the road (and a bonus epilogue set a year later available as an Instafreebie), but both are purposely vague.

Cort and Cam get their HEA, but the secondary characters are barely mentioned. This is clearly by design, since this is the first book in a series, but it was still a bit awkward.

Book 2 comes out in November. I'll be waiting!

Story - 3.5 stars

I understand this was May's debut novel, It was not bad at all.

description

The Good

- The story - It was fluffy and cute.

- The characters - Cam and Cort, They were likable and had chemistry that was believable. Their interactions were fun to listen to.

-The banter - This book had some lol moments, i love me some laughter, and the banter kept me entertained to the end.

-The absence of miscommunication. Oh Lawd! These two solved their issues. No running, no not speaking for a year. Gaaah! What a relief.

- The sex scenes were hot and it helped that the MCs had mad chemistry.

The Bad and The Ugly

-The insta lust/love.. Daaaamn! What happened to getting to know each other first? The I love you, had me like!

description

-The mystery, what was that?

- The MCs names, Cort and Cam. It took a while before i my brain registered who was who. It's not poetry or lyrics, the names don't have to rhyme.

Overall it was an enjoyable story despite the tiny niggles.

A bit insta-y here... - Okay, I nearly fell off my couch when the L-word came -
A tad eye-rolling there... - Especially towards the end it was a bit too B-movie-style for me -

... but overall an enjoyable read! - The sex is pretty hot and the banter glorious and there are quite some I-almost-snorted-my-coffee-through-my-nose-induced text messages. :) -

This one was pretty good.

Positives:
--some good banter. I especially liked the text messages.
--nice smexy times.
--low on the angst.
--hot cover

Negatives:
--insta-love. When the "I love you" came I kind of wanted to cringe.
--the suspense portion was almost a bit cheesy.
--some loose ends.

For a newbie author it wasn't bad and I will consider reading the second book in the series.

Okay, this was... Better than I thought, but also had SOME issues.

- The two shortened C-names: Cam and Cort, that shit was sort of confusing.
- The insta-something happening.
- The lies that Cort told, then Cam had the backbone of ALL backbones, but a fucking few flirty texts from Cort and then everything was okay again... Fuck that shit.
- The MANY more lies that Cort told, and Cam being a sort of doormat, because of insta-something.

But yeah, the smexy times were smoking and the banter was sort of fun, but the abovementioned issues had me rolling my eyes, and asking Cam to find his backbone again, so a mixed bag of tricks.

Kendrick Cortland (A.K.A. Cort) was brought up in foster homes never being able to count on anyone or trust anyone. That is until he met his foster brother, Damon. He's the only person in the world that Cort feels like he can trust and count on. Damon is his person. Until Cort see's the news that Damon has been killed and his name is being drug threw the trenches by Sebastian Seaver, who's parents and fiancé was also killed when Damon crashed the plane they were all on. They say Damon was intoxicated and didn't follow procedure while checking the plane. There is even a witness claiming he was drinking with Damon before the flight. But Cort just can't believe it. He knows his brother and knows Damon would never be so irresponsible. When Cort gets a package with some clues about the crash he knows it's from Damon and his brother is alive. With Cort being a detective this sets off all of his instincts to follow the clues Damon is sending him. Nothing will stop him from finding the truth and clearing his brothers name. Not even when it costs him his job. His mission to find the truth puts him in front of Sebastian's younger brother, Cam. Cam is struggling trying to run a company he had no plans of ever being a part of while he's also trying to bring his brother out of the abyss of depression that losing their parents and his fiancé has put him in. When Cort and Cam meet the chemistry as well as the attraction is instant. I loved their banter and the texts and games they had going on. The mystery wasn't as mysterious as it could have been. The villain was pretty obvious. Even so this book was a great fun read with some great MC's who had chemistry for days and some really hot sexy times.

Happy reading dolls! xx

What a fantastic story! The Easy Way is my first experience with May Archer’s fantastic writing, and I’m thoroughly impressed. I can hardly wait for the release of the audio version of the next book in The Way Home series!

Ms. Archer has perfected the ratio of action/romance/angst, and this novel simply flys by. The characters are unique and interesting, there’s fantastic chemistry between the main guys, and holy, hot, damn but May Archer writes a wonderful love scene!

Michael Dean does a fantastic job with The Easy Way. I think he performs the *erm* romantic moments better than any narrator out there, and May Archer’s beautifully written love scenes are his forté.

Exciting, romantic, erotic, and occasionally even delightfully humorous, I highly recommend this one.

A suspense romance, part of a series. My guess ? An on-going plot around the circumstances of the death in a plane crash of several people linked into the Seaver family business with a romance in each book with different characters.

In this one, the author focuses on Cam, now CEO of the Seaver industries since his parents’ death in the plane crash, and Cort, an FBI agent not satisfied by the conclusions of the investigation of the crash and deciding to meet and use Cam to get to the truth. Needless to say, their first encounter is explosive in the attraction department and holy hotness, they can’t fight it despite deception and uncomfortable revelations and even fuelled it with delicious texting.

Granted, the “insta-love” is quite strong (but well done imo), the plot is sometimes a bit thin and there are some loose ends, but as it’s an on-going series, I hold my judgement. In overall, I was well entertained with a nice pace, two attractive MCs, some delicious hotness and the perspective of some more goodness to come.

Complimentary audio provided in exchange for an honest review.

This was good. I had to restart the audio because the first time I felt so lost. 2nd = success. The dramallama didn't show up as expected. Surprisingly they were mature adults and talked! Who knew? The plot overall is implausible but still fun. Insta love, sure. And yet this was an enjoyable story I didn't want to put down.

Death, grief, murder, lying, rich people, this has something for everyone. 😁

The narration was very good. The sex scenes a little intense vocally but I'll take it over some others I've listened to. I definitely will listen to this narrator again. And I look forward to book 2. I do recommend this and caution you this shouldn't be seen as a deep, realistic story. It's a mind numbing story that won't make you want to hurl your ereader. 😉

3.5 Stars I'll round up to 4 if I see another book is in the works.

I liked this, quite a lot actually, but I'm left with so many questions.
Don't read the spoilers if you haven't read the book.

Cam and Cort's relationship is so easy. I LOVED it. But, and here's a but, was it too easy? Everything happened so fast I didn't have time to digest what was going on. I loved Cort though. He was everything.

For a debut MM this wasn't too shabby, in my opinion. Just hope there's a 2nd book in the works to tidy up loose ends.

Very divided on this one, the storyline is ok with a bit of melodrama thrown in there, had a few issues with it but ultimately the writing is very readable. Not one I'd read again but I'm giving the sequel a try so rounding up to 3*

- The names are too similar Cort and Cam meant I had to stay awake on who was who.
- LOTS of lies ll far too easily forgiven; considering the dynamic between them was one of giving up control I'd have liked to see more fireworks and grovelling on that front.
- The texting felt juvenile considering the situation, had trouble seeing Cam taking the reigns of big powerful company, he didn't come across as capable.
- The sex, other reviews applaud it - to be honest I skimmed because the insta-lust turned to insta-love so insta that any mention of feelings felt off to me.
- The ending is left fairly open in we find out what happened (no surprise there) but not the conclusion. Not a cliff-hanger of doom, but if reading for the mystery then no real closure. I lost patience with the epilogue it didn't add anything.

BUT it's a debut book and while never a must-read, it was a comfortable distraction on my coffee breaks.

Okay not going to lie, I have started and stopped this book probably 3 different times in the past year and each time I have only gotten to chapter 5.. this time I decided to push through since I have loved all the other May Archer books I’ve read.

Unfortunately this wasn’t one that I loved. I do like the action/mystery part, the bad guy was kinda obvious but I still enjoyed it. But to me Cort and Cam… I just didn’t connect with them until about 70% in to the book.. but I think it is a me not the book issue. Cam was a little too forgiving and Cort needed to open up more in the beginning… but they did only know each other for like a week 😂so very instalove!

I’m interested in the other couples as well, but not sure if I will continue right away. Only time will tell haha

I enjoyed this a lot. Cort and Cam had chemistry from the begining, not just sexual chemistry but romantic chemistry as well. I loved reading their conversations together just as much as I loved reading their sex scenes.

The plot could be considered nothing out of the ordinary, with Cam's parents having died in a plane crash and it having been intentional instead of accidental, but I liked how the author brought Cort into Cam's life, into the overall plot, to bring them together.

Because Cort's foster brother, Damon, was the pilot of the plane and was presumed dead, but also responsible for the crash, but Damon contacts Cort over several months and Cort figures out that he is indeed alive, and while Cort is determined to find out how and why his brother was framed - and using resources as an FBI agent to help - he figures that Cam or his brother Sebastian had their parents killed (and thus framing Damon) and so he's determined to prove it, and it brings him right to Cam.

But right away Cort is drawn in by Cam and they form an undeniable connection. They were so hot and sweet and adorable together, I loved whenever they interacted.

And yeah, it might have been "too easy" (hence the title) for them, and they fell in love fairly quickly, but it also didn't feel as insta-lovey as it was. Being able to see them fall for each other and feel that connection helped.

Things happen fast between them, but they don't get too caught up in everything. They move in after 5 months together at the end, but they're still taking their time with their relationship.

There is some mild angst but it works out well.

I definitely recommend this. There are well written characters, a well written relationship, and an entertaining plot. Cam and Cort just made me so happy <3

2 Lies and 1 Truth: Cam and Cort edition

This was a pretty good start to the series. I love stories featuring guys in law in enforcement. This book’s title is interesting because none of the good stuff was done “The Easy Way”. They had to work to build trust and foundation to eventually get to the happy place.

Cort and Cam were likable in different ways. Cort was a wise ass who was prone to doing this his way, which seems to be an oxymoron if you are working in a team environment like the FBI.
Cam on the other hand, is doing his best to keep his life and family business afloat after the tragic death of his parents. Trust is in short supply since people are trying to use him all the time.

Two guys with trust issues meet and let their guard down for a few hours and a bond is forged. It was nice. My favorite part of this book was the games like 2 lies and 1 truth in order to get to know each other. Those ice breakers were sprinkled throughout the book and it added levity to their circumstances.

These guys also had great chemistry. I felt them together. They fit and I’m glad that Cort realized that Cam was worth fighting for. They were the missing piece in the other person’s life.

Not bad for a first novel. A little too insta-love, but I enjoyed the dynamic between Cort & Cam...and while I had the mystery solved pretty early on, I still doubted who the players were in the conspiracy.

Definitely going to read the next book, especially given that Oh.My.GOD *Snoopy Dance* I get to vent about an actual BOOK where my recent GENERAL UPDATE (where I was basically called to the carpet because it wasn't about a BOOK) has a BOOK application because in the second BOOK of this series there's a passage about the evil Senator and how he's "...championed bills seeking to overturn marriage equality, cut funding for family planning clinics that provide abortions, and to protect public and private employees from charges of discrimination provided they are acting on a sincerely held religious belief."

So, you know, my real world complaint and update has...OMG a BOOK CONNECTION!!!! I can.not.wait. BOOOOYAHHHHH!!!

This was a good read even though some parts made me want to cringe at the way they happened. I liked the characters and the plot. But I do wish that some parts weren't rushed. That would have changed the story a lot.

I'm excited to read the next books in the series.

Soooo we are at the tail-end of 2021 and I figure it’s time to finally release this from my collection vault and cracked it baby open!

2017: Very "new-to-me" author, and I do believe this is an M/M debut novel, so I figured I'd borrow from Kindle Unlimited and if I liked it, I'd purchase it. BUT, my Kindle Unlimited queue is full, soooooo since this is only $1.20 right now, I decided I'd gamble and go for it ;-)!! The blurb sounds really good, so I am hoping the book lives up to its promise!

I enjoyed listening to this fast paced, whodunit mystery, insta-lust, insta-love, feel good, MM romance with a HFN/HEA ending. I particularly liked the snarky banter and tongue in cheek dialogues. And even , when I figured out , right away, who was/were villain/villains , of the story, it still kept my attention until the end.

Drama levels: Medium low
Will re-listen: Probably yes

Michael Dean narration was engaging , entertaining and exuberant. His portrayal of Cam and Cort was on point.

I liked this book. Very strong chemistry between the MC's. A clear attraction besides lust is built by actually talking to each other and getting to know each other, which sadly is so rare in romance books. Also, A bit of a mystery, two MC's that don't hold on to their secrets when it's not necessary to do so and sympathetic characters.

I'm looking forward to the next book.

3.5 stars rounded up. This was a bit slow and sloppy to start, but once it got going, I was hooked! Hot and heavy lovin’, humorous banter, suspense, and sweetness.

I’m a sucker for stories featuring an undercover lover who falls for his or her mark. I’m a sucker for the angst and uncertainty and groveling when the truth comes out. Cort is an FBI agent gone rogue. He is attempting to clear his beloved brother, Damon, of wrongdoing in a plane crash that killed members of the wealthy Seaver family. He believes that surviving son Sebastian Seaver either slandered (at best) or set-up (at worst) Damon. So Cort intends to ensnare and entrap Cam, Sebastian’s younger brother. And OF COURSE Cort is stunned by Cam’s charm and honesty and sexiness. Of course he instantly realizes that Cam is innocent of any wrongdoing. Of course he falls for him.

What I really liked?
-The book spans a fairly short time period, but May Archer handled the insta-“emotions” well. Cort and Cam have various texting exchanges and games that they play (NOT sexual, although there are some of those as well) which lent believability to their connection. Let’s face it, insta-anything is a hard sell. Their “getting-to-know-you” exchanges made their relationship feel more authentic but also added amusement.
-Although the relationship is fraught with secrets, bits and pieces are revealed throughout the novel instead of at once. It also allowed them to build a tentative trust, which is important in any "false pretenses" romance. And Cort and Cam were always honest about their feelings.
-Hot, hot, hot! I wouldn’t even call this BDSM-lite, but there were some verrry arousing exchanges with dominant/submissive tones. It was different and delightful!

What I didn’t really like? As I noted, there were a few stumbles early on, mainly editing issues and information dumps. My biggest peeve, though, is that various plot threads were not resolved (Candice's review sums them up nicely).

I would love to read another installment in which we revisit these unresolved issues. Like I NEED to know what happened to . But despite my frustration in “not knowing”, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book.

The beginning of this hooked me in right away and didn't let go!

I kinda loved how Cort's deception could've been dragged out with a big fallout toward the end, but the author decided to take a different route and have Cort fess up to Cam because of one steamy night together. <3

It is a touch insta-love, a warning for those who don't like that, but it didn't bother me in this one. Some I like, some I don't, and I really liked it in this case :D

Can't wait for book 2!

I think this is a writer that I could possibly enjoy reading (I read a short story that I really enjoyed), but this particular story was a little too easy. There were just too many lies that were too easily forgiven. There was no crawling on knees or begging. The insta-everything was a bit too insta. I’ll give myself a few days to decide if I’ll read the next in this series.

Insta-lust turning into insta-love with an unlikely, slighty OTT plot - and yet I did enjoy Cam and Cort (but boy, two MC s names starting with the same letter does my head in *g*). Their banter, particularly the texting, made me chuckle quite a few times.
Enjoyable as long as you are prepared to suspend reality and not start thinking or ask questions.
