THE QUEST FOR BATTLEMECHS TAKES ITS TOLL ON ALL WHO SEEK THEM...

The BattleMech. King of the battlefield. Prized. Feared. Coveted.

Fearing being left behind in the arms race among the other Great Houses, the Draconis Combine will do anything—anything—to possess this fearsome technology.

Even grind its most loyal subject into useless husks in a decades-long attempt to gain the information the Dragon so desperately needs.

Two brothers. One an intelligence analyst and deep-cover operative, the other a leader in the Combine's commando unit. Both with the same goal—recover the BattleMech plans—but with very different ideas on how to accomplish it. But only one will survive and emerge triumphant... or will the Dragon's machinations destroy them both?

Author Randall N. Bills brings us the fourth novella in the Proliferation Cycle with Fall Down Seven Times, Get up Eight. This novella centers around the Dragons combine and they're need to get the Battlmech plans or a working mech, The only thing is the person who've they've sent to do this Ito has been circling the factory for the past ten years and in that time other governments have been more successful than he has. Ito is of Japan decent and wants to be the warrior to bring his government glory. But as the years have shown he doesn't do so an costs the Combine the information on the mech. This is a great novella and I'm looking forward to what the next chapter will be. I highly recommend this cycle to all mech and Gundam fans.

Okay this ended up being a repeat of the Lyran raid on the Terran Hegemony BattleMech production facility, but involving the Draconis Combine instead of the Lyrans. This was a bit more character-focused and tied to DEST and ISF, which are distinctly Draconis Combine. But the overall result wasn't particularly thrilling and it's not like we dug into the actual combat or how they executed the mission in detail, which might have made the book better somehow.
