How much can actually go on in sleepy Hunters Ridge, anyway? Apparently, quite a lot.
Sarah James, a social worker, knows what it's like to feel trapped. So, her life's mission is to help young Amish women who want to leave the community. When one of the women she's working with goes missing, Sarah fears her meddling has come with a cost. A very heavy cost.
Trevor Griffin has a plum job as a forensic accountant with the FBI in Buffalo, NY. When his niece doesn't return home after a weekend with friends, Griff tracks her phone to the small town of Hunters Ridge.
When Sarah and Griff cross paths, they learn the two women both accepted a ride with the same driver before disappearing. The home of the driver is easy to track down, but the same can't be said of the women. Convinced the women's disappearances are connected, Sarah and Griff pool their resources to find them.
Emotions run deep during this high-stakes investigation. Griff and Sarah discover themselves drawn together as they cling to the fleeting hope that the women they care about will come home. Safe.
Alison Stone writes sweet romance, cozy mysteries, and inspirational romantic suspense, some of which contain bonnets and buggies.
Alison often refers to herself as the "accidental Amish author." She decided to try her hand at the genre after an editor put a call out for more Amish romantic suspense. Intrigued—and who doesn't love the movie Witness with Harrison Ford?—Alison dug into research, including visits to the Amish communities in Western New York where she lives. This sparked numerous story ideas, the first leading to her debut novel with Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense. Four subsequent Love Inspired Suspense titles went on to earn RT magazine's TOP PICK! designation, their highest ranking.
When Alison’s not plotting ways to bring mayhem to Amish communities, she’s writing inspirational romantic suspense with a more modern setting, sweet romances, and cozy mysteries, including her new Murphy's Dance Academy series. In order to meet her deadlines, she has to block the internet and hide her smartphone.
Married and the mother of four (almost) grown kids, Alison lives in the suburbs of Buffalo where the summers are gorgeous and the winters are perfect for curling up with a book—or writing one.
Plain Escape is the next thrilling story written by Alison Stone in her Hunters Ridge series. This story has a great new cast of characters who work together to solve the mystery of young girls going missing in Amish country. After young girls accept rides from an Amish cab driver they are not seen again but with the help of a social worker, an FBI agent, and the local police they think they have figured out who the suspect is but he is always one step ahead of them. As time becomes essential they are afraid they won't get to the girls in time. When the mystery is revealed it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat in suspense.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
The third and last book in this trilogy and each book is consistently enjoyable mystery reads with a dash of romance. Although, I do feel the romance touch gets lighter and lighter with each book. Nevertheless, for a mystery read, they certainly deliver. The bad guy wasn't hard to guess though the untangling of the mystery was the fun part. It's been a great relaxing beach reads with this trilogy but I'm ready to move on.
Sorta Hitchcock-ian in that you know who the bad guy is early on or at least suspect. But it's all in how the good guys find out and are they in time. Favorite character: Gramps. Person you love to hate: father of our heroine. Yes, I recommend.
I’ve just finished this third in Ms.Stone’s Plain Series. With sequels, you always wonder if the next in the series can be as good as the earlier one. Well , #s 1, 2 , and 3 have been exceptional. I was in suspense all the way through each one. Thank you, Ms. Stone was a very entertaining afternoon.
How to find two girls that asked for rides home. The leads they are given turn out to be misleading. Solving the crime leads to more persons of interest.
Excellent book, I have read all three and highly recommend. I can't wait to read book four in the series. I like reading about the Amish and I look forward to reading more from this author. Lots of suspense and romance
I just didn’t feel the chemistry between the two main characters. That being said, I still enjoyed the plot. It’s so refreshing to read a romantic suspense novel without constant swearing and explicit sex.
I love the intrigue and suspense in all the books. Just enough of a back story to link the present book with the previous one. Can wait to star book 4.
This last one is fantastic. An FBI forensic accountant's niece goes missing, which has happened before...but not past overnight. It has been 2 days when his sister calls for his help, asking him to try to help find her without involving law enforcement - she & her husband are going through a bitter divorce, & when she asks for more child support during the process, he suddenly demands custody - not of the missing girl, who is 18, but of her 2 much younger sisters. Since he has not spent that much time involved with then while they lived together, it appears to be for spite...& she is sure the missing teen will become ammo he uses to wrest custody from her. And so he tracks down the girl's cell phone, has it white-hat hacked, & meanwhile does some investigating. At the same time, a former Amish woman, elderly, who is dealing with a sick husband, sees the young social worker who has tried to help young Amish teens decide if they really want to leave or not, & if they do, tries to make the arrangements for them to be safe, & to return if they want to. It turns out the older woman has heard from Hannah, who "jumped the fence" after having mothered her twin brothers since she was 8, with no help, & feels that she is expected to help with the men's work, but the men won't even take the boys for a while to give her a break. Apparently she had decided to return to her home...except she never did. This means two 18 year old girls have disappeared around the same time, both after using the same driver's services. Will they find the girls in time? It's hard to say. The theft of the confidential paper files, along with the attack on the social worker's MGF, complicates things, since although there are protected computer files, she keeps paper as her backup. Because of privacy laws, she has to take time away from the search to see if anything is missing. The social worker has lived with her MGF since she was 16, because her father has isolated & intimidated her mother but she could not , & would not, become like her mother. Her MGF took her in when she needed a place to go. As a result of her father's behavior, she has no desire for a man in her life. And the FBI agent has no room for a woman, married to his job. There is a lot of suspense...many twists...many incidents...law enforcement has to be involved at some point. The book will keep you on the edge of your seat. The skillfully woven tale deftly ties up all the loose ends. It's almost a disappointment that this seems to be the last book in the series. I hope it's not. It's not every day an author can mix Amosh & "Englischer," rural & urban, & disparate backgrounds in a clean tale & have it work. The author has earned the cost ofnthe books, & then some.
I have enjoyed all the Hunter Ridge books and this was as good as the rest. The stoyline plus the characters met my expectations. All romantic suspense lovers will enjoy this book.
Really enjoyed the characters and mystery in this book. Although it is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I think people would enjoy the whole series and reading them in order as characters from the second book, Plain Missing, are in this book.
