One of the best RPG books I have read in a long time. Has a goal and sticks to it. A great system to divert to to mix it up with other games.

A simple yet complete system with lots of options to tweak it to your preference. I think if I were running a zombie game I would probably pick something lighter and do a one-shot, but if I were doing a zombie campaign this would probably be at the top of the list.

Very rules light. Not much variation on character creation. I liked the suggested scenarios in the back, especially the "Zombie Lords" one.

Although I was turned off by some of the character generation stuff, I think overall this is a pretty good RPG, and while it's aimed at doing zombie stories, there's some flexibility allowing for a wide variety of genres to be done with these rules. Some of the character creation material suffers from being copied and pasted from WitchCraft. I mean, who really cares about having a beautician skill in the zombie apocalypse? And more annoying to me, why does this have advantages like past lives that give you access to extra skills? I do kinda like the choice of Inspired as the one supernatural character type, since warriors of God make a fair deal of sense when battling what might be the forces of Hell. However, all the stuff about how the powers should only be used in emergencies or else God will get angry annoyed me. I'd rather have something like Deadlands where there's an actual Faith stat that can be used to control divine power. The rules in general are pretty nice and simple. Add your relevant stat and skill to a d10 roll, and if you get 9 or higher, you succeeded. It's a lot like Savage Worlds, minus the mixing of cards with dice and other gimmicks. What really makes this game cool comes in the last two chapters. First, there's a discussion of how to make zombies, which offers a point buy system for assembling different kinds of the undead. You can choose to make them fast or slow, smart or dumb as a rock, and give them various special powers like the ability to breathe fire or sense all living things within a certain radius. Of course, the inclusion of the heart as a weak point and blood as the substance zombies feed on means you could make rudimentary vampires, and I'm sure further books will offer even more options to allow game masters to make any sort of monster with one rules set. The final chapter presents eleven Dead Worlds as the game calls them. In other words, there's a wide range of settings for zombie campaigns, from the modern day to the Middle Ages to the post-nuke Mad Max future. There's also various explanations for where the shamblers came from, including a necrotic asteroid, invading alien parasites, and eco-friendly fertilizer gone wrong. Between the two chapters, you're guaranteed to be able to play over and over again without dealing with the same zombie twice. All in all, there's a lot to enjoy here (aside from the D20 Modern conversion notes, which are awful), and I'm sure my enthusiasm for the game will increase as I read the supplements I have. I'm especially looking forward to the one on kung-fu zombies, because that'll give me everything I need to do Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as an RPG.

For just focusing on zombies, this game is surprisingly robust and downright fun.

This has some great, original ideas for zombie stories. I liked all the different zombie scenarios in the back. I admittedly skipped the gaming specifics because I didn't need them.
