Ruby Hayes is intelligent, beautiful, great at her job and loves her students. She's not too fond of me because despite moving to this small coastal California town only a month ago, I've managed to get on her bad side by consistently arriving late to pick up my daughter, Nina. It's probably for the best. Between my job and adjusting to raising a little girl by myself, adding romance to the equation isn't something I have time for. Spencer Jones is successful, handsome, a doting father and terrible at reading a clock. His daughter, Nina also happens to my favorite student. Getting involved with the parent of a student is bad idea, no matter how witty and charming they might be. It's probably for the best. Between my job, taking care of my dad and climbing out debt, a new relationship is the last thing I need. Spencer and Ruby have plenty of reasons to stay apart, but can a little divine intervention and an assist from a pint-sized cupid teach them a lesson that will last a lifetime?
Lucy Eden is the nom de plume of an romance obsessed author who writes the kind of romance she loves to read. She’s a sucker for alphas with a soft gooey center, over the top romantic gestures, strong & smart MCs, humor, love at first sight (or pretty damn close), happily ever afters & of course, steamy love scenes.
When Lucy isn’t writing, she’s busy reading—or listening to—every book she can get her hands on— romance or otherwise.
She lives & loves in New York with her husband, two children, a turtle & a Yorkshire Terrier.
"It wasn’t the carefully staged and prepped photos and videos you treasure the most when you lose someone special. It’s the random and candid moments that showed you who the people you loved really were. That’s the way you remember them."
My heart hurts so bad, that scene in the epilogue made me cry. What a lovely book
Wow! This was a wonderful surprise. These 100+ pages pack an emotional punch. There was widowed father of an adorable little girl and her very sweet and patient teacher. I can't tell you too much, it wasn't that long, but it was a very complete story. I would have loved for there to be more, but this definitely hit all romantic highlights. Well done, Ms. Eden!
Who needs a dating app when five-year-old Nina Jones is the perfect matchmaker?
I thought it a sweet gesture that at such a young age, Nina has the foresight to look out for her father. I admired Nina for her being mature enough to understand her deceased mother’s request.
Nina and Ruby both share being daddy’s little girl in common. Ruby has to stay late with Nina because Nina’s father is constantly late picking up her up. Securities analyst Spencer Jones recently lost his wife, and decided to get a fresh start away from his family so the responsibility of his daughter is solely up to him. This is a quick and enjoyable read that didn’t have any drama or heartbreak. My preference is not for romance but for some reason I felt the need to read something kind, loving and where something good happens and this book gave me just that. This is a delightful and well written story about the power of love, commitment and family.
There is an immediate attraction between Ruby and Spencer, but neither is ready for a relationship. Ruby has a full time job and when she’s not working she’s taking care of her ailing father.
I enjoyed the relationship between Ruby and Spencer. There are adult scenes included but to me they were not needed to enhance the book. I do have to admit the passion between the two and the love scenes were hot. There is a hostage situation mentioned at Spencer’s job but no details of the situation were mentioned. All of the characters are likable and I am glad there was a happy ending for all.
The book has a nice ending that added a sentimental touch and a sweet closure. If you enjoy reading a happy, and upbeat story this is a story that you will enjoy.
Wow.... Just wow. What an emotional ride this one was. Lucy is on dome Shonda Rhimes shit.
My heart tore a bit with this one. I don't want to give anything away because I want readers to be blindsided like I was.
However I will say this is NOT simply a cutesy widower dad falls for teacher. This is not Hallmark or Lifetime material. This is Wednesday night Fox or NBC shit.
It was super unexpected and good. I highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this book. It was such a cute, heartfelt story. I loved the chemistry Vereeniging Ruby and Spencer. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
cute, fun and quick read! i always like the kid match making their parent plots! wished there was a little more on page relationship development but they were adorable together
Okay, first things first, can we just sit and enjoy this joyful sweet cover? Seriously, just looking at this couple makes my heart so happy, because hell yea for love.
Lucy Eden’s novelette An Angel for Daddy had me one-clicking faster than I could blink because do not threaten me with Daddy in a title and think I won’t jump.
And lemme tell you what, the Daddy in this story did not disappoint. Spencer Jones is a single father, a widower who lost his wife, Sarai to cancer. Together the couple made Nina, an absolute bundle of love and excitement that had me giggling throughout this book.
Ruby Hayes is a hardworking teacher who loves her job, her father, and is focused on getting her life back on track. I totally related to Ruby’s willingness to give everything to take care of her aging father who is recovering from a stroke while giving her all to her students. She’s a totally loveable and her character read as authentic and true.
This woman was not looking for love but who can deny Spencer + Nina Jones?
No one. That’s who.
Spencer and Ruby’s story is full of ups and downs, with a little bit of high drama that reminded me of the old soaps I adored watching as a kid, which was perfect because I loved it then, and I goddamn loved it now.
I normally don’t like contemporary references to songs or pop culture in my books for the reason that it doesn’t hold up years later, but here it worked well and I felt like it grounded me in Spencer and Ruby’s world in a way that made it feel truly real. It was like I knew these people and I was laughing along with them and rooting for their beautiful love story that was just steamy enough to make me blush.
FYI: Their first kiss will make you sigh and vow to finish the book in one sitting.
This novelette delivers a HEA that satisfies and makes me so happy and excited for what I hope is the next in the series because there are some truly wonderful secondary characters that shine.
Only took me 1.5 years to actually read this … not bad for me.
A very cute little novella - especially for the 5 year old sprite. Strong writing and it was a quick read that you can get through while on a break. Good for a Monday when you need a break. Or energy to start the day, as in my case.
Only issue I had was that we could have used a little bit more time with the couple. It jumped in time so we got the HEA but I’d have liked to see them get together a little bit more. Could have used like 1 more chapter all in all. And we could have used more time with Ruby being the teacher and Spencer being late. I liked their banter quite a bit - I liked a lot of the cuteness quite a bit 😀
Well worth checking out - very cute!
Also bumping up to 4 stars stars for the hair advice - very very true !

Dec 2020: kids matchmaking for dad - yes please
Also have heard good thing about this author so looking forward to that as well...
This is a short quick story to read, it is well written and kept me turning pages. I enjoyed the playlist at the end of the book. This is teacher Ruby Hayes, Spencer Jones, his daughter Nina, and her Dad's story, I found myself needing a Kleenex as I read. The one wish Sarai, Spencer's deceased wife wanted for her family was this "I'm going to start looking for an angel to take care of you and Daddy for me." I enjoyed this story. Ruby a teacher has fallen in love with a 5 year old little girl and her always late Dad. Attraction is there and resistant is needed because of the parent teacher policy. But Nina, our little 5 year old has other plans along with fate. Great characters, nice way to end with an HEA year jerker. Short read with details.

What a delightful story! Ruby and Spencer were so cute together. Glad they stopped beating around the bush and went for it. I have to say I wasn't expecting such passion, but their love scenes were hot!!! Nina was adorable and Ruby's father Jack, what a great story he had! This was a beautiful story! Definitely 5 stars!
What a beautiful little story. It is so well written and took me through all the range of emotions and yes I did cry at the end. Spencer, Ruby and Nina made a wonderful little family. This was my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last. Loved it.

A story that's fun and enjoyable to read. Great characters that are fun to get to know, romance and love that's touching and believable. Spencer is raising his daughter alone and Ruby is her teacher but there is definite chemistry between Spencer and Ruby. Will they get a chance at a happily ever after?

A moving story about a man (and his daughter) who find love again after his wife has died. Nina's teacher is the angel her mother sent her to look after her and her father. A wonderfully sweet romance that also brings a tear to your eyes in the epilogue

I had lots of fun reading this story. The characters are well developed and engaging and plenty of chemistry from beginning to the end. Storyline flowed smoothly.

Spencer had a lot on his plate being a single parent to Nina and failing miserably at picking her up from her school on time. Ruby was trying hard to not to catch feelings for Spencer because he was her favorite student's dad but they were both attracted to each other. Things happened beyond their control and it made them face the feelings that they had for each other. Ruby fell in love with Spencer and Nina and they both fell in love with her as well.
This was my first read by this author and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a novella or novelette whichever word that is preferred that had a beginning, middle, and end. I loved how all the adults in this book found their true love.
Ruby was truly the angel God sent to Spencer and Nina. Nina and Spencer deserved a second chance at having a family.
A great read, I would most definitely recommend it.
I enjoyed this short, cute romantic story. Nina, the five year old, was the star of the show. She was both wise and innocent. I loved that line about her being 5 and 35 simultaneously - fit her to a tee. The videos were a nice touch and gave her dad the blessing to move on while leaving memories of what was. I thought the couple moved too fast, but the heart wants what it wants.
This was such a cute little romance! Predictable and a bit rushed of course, as most romance novels are,but beautiful nonetheless. I felt emotional while reading the part where Ruby and Spencer are watching Sarai's last video she recorded. I also felt really sad when I read the scene at the restaurant with Ruby's dad. It made me think of my own father. I'm glad I got a chance to read this, it has been on my list for a while.
This book is outstanding. I love how easy it was to understand and how loving all the characters are in the book. Of course if you don't shed tears during the hostage section and cry your eyes out when reading the epilogue then you must go back and read this book again. Awesome book.
Cute and sweet, but like many novellas: not enough content. Would have loved the story to be fully realized, and for there to have been a very slight amount of conflict. But overall, An Angel for Daddy is a perfectly nice and fluffy read.
This story was very emotional to me. It shows that your head may not always agree with your heart , but love always prevails. I would definitely recommend it to anyone else.
First work I’ve read from Ms. Eden and it will not be the last. This was a beautiful short story about loving someone, loosing someone and being blessed to find love the 2nd time around.❤️
