COMING HOME TO THE COWBOY (Redemption Ranch Book 2) by Megan Ryder is a new cowboy contemporary second chance romance. The story is written by a new to me author that satisfied me with everything I look for in a genre romance. This is the second book in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone and I will definitely be going back to read book 1.

Hailey Spencer returns to her hometown to help her mother after a stroke. It is a chance for her young son, AJ to spend time with his grandparents. She is also looking for a job so that she can stay in the area, when an old high school friend introduces her one of the owners of Redemption Ranch. She accepts the position as business manager and is excited to start, but she also is worried about running into her dead husband’s best friend, Chase.

Chase Summers is a champion bull-rider. After a terrible accident on his last ride, he has returned home to recuperate. He is grateful his foster dad brought him to the ranch and saved him from the foster care system. Since high school, he has spent his time on the rodeo circuit riding bulls and sending part of his winnings home to help the ranch succeed. He is a fun-loving, cocky cowboy who never lets anyone get too close.

Hailey and AJ move onto the ranch and under the same roof as Chase. Hailey has old hidden feelings for Chase even though she married his best friend and Chase has always had a secret crush on Hailey, but he also feels guilty for Hailey’s husband’s death. As Hailey and Chase’s attraction grows so does AJ’s attachment to Chase. Can Hailey and Chase overcome their pasts or will the rodeo win once again?

I felt so much as I read this romance! Ms. Ryder has written a beautiful story that is heart-breaking, heart-warming and everything in between. Family, hope and love are all interwoven into this story which draws you in and refuses to let you go until the last page. Hailey, Chase and AJ are realistically written characters that I felt could walk right off the page and I will be excited to meet them again in future books in this series.

I highly recommend this cowboy contemporary romance and I am looking forward to reading all of the books in the Redemption Ranch series!

What a great read this proved to be, I really enjoyed it with its great characters, plenty of drama and trauma as well as a heartwarming second chance romance.

Redemption Ranch is where Chase Summers went to live as a teenager, after years of being passed around from one foster family to another. It was there he found stability and love, a purpose in his life which was encouraged and supported as well as a family, even if not by blood. He still struggles to let anyone near him, to love and to trust that he won't be rejected and sent away yet again. Now he and his foster brothers are trying to develop the ranch to keep it safe. Chase is contributing his winnings from being a champion bull-rider on the rodeo circuit. However, this is a danger packed existence, one that results in him being seriously injured and necessitating him taking time out to heal. He returns to the ranch to do so but certainly hadn't anticipated the new ranch accountant, Hailey Spencer, and her son, AJ, sharing his accommodation! What makes this worse for him is that she is his secret crush. He's loved her for years, even when his best friend married her but he also feels guilty and somewhat responsible for her husband's death. With so much history and attraction between them, could this be their chance to find love and happiness together or will the call of the rodeo prove too great for them?

What a lovely story, packed with angst and turmoil as past experiences make this couple so wary of romance and the future. The author skilfully creates characters that it is so easy to empathise with and feel sympathy for. AJ is a delightful child and his growing attachment to Chase is so special but so is the journey that Chase and Hailey travel, complete with so many obstacles en route, that makes this a fantastic read that I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys reading contemporary second chance romances.

This was a pretty enjoyable read, with a good pace, a cocky, yet troubled hero in urgent need of redemption, a cute six-year-old boy and a fictional world that kept me invested until the end.
Chase, a bull rider recovering from injuries is apparently a super-confident man, yet he’s going through an identity crisis, has self worth issues and hides a lot of hurt deep down inside.
Chase has aspects that are problematic for me – his opinions on women in the bull riding circuit – but the way Megan Ryder wrote the hero, making us, readers, see him through his actions and other characters’ perspectives, really made me fond of him.
I really liked the contradictions in his personality – confidence versus insecurities, alphaness versus vulnerability – and this genuine unawareness, wonder and modesty about his own qualities and potential.
I usually like the injured Alpha male and this one, with the stoicism and stubbornness, was a great creation.
Chase and Hailey share a past and a complex relationship. I liked how they talked through their issues, the teasing and laughter balancing the serious moments.
The siblings’ bonds were touching. Chase and AJ’s relationship was so endearing, with Chase’s inexperience with kids showing a special tenderness and patience, another facet of his multidimensional character.
The same can be said about Chase working with horses, another dimension of the story I found riveting and that shows the bull rider’s heart.

This is the second book in the Redemption Ranch Series and is another fantastic read. We met Chase in the first book and I really liked him so was glad he got his own story I could relate to Chase he is all grown and made a name for himself but deep down he still feels like that lost foster kid who is not worth anything that is until he meets Hailey and her son I loved watching these three together this was a super read and I really enjoyed it

Mini Review:

This was a typical cowboy romance that I have enjoyed reading since I first picked when up at the age of 14. It had the small town feels that I loved. I loved the ranch feel with the horses and such. It had a great broken hero in Chase that I wholeheartedly fell in love with, making me swoon multiple times. I loved Chase’s romantic gestures, showing he was all in with Hailey and A.J. I loved he was willing to learn how to parent A.J by reading parent books. I loved all the cute moments between Chase and A.J that made me fall harder for Chase. I loved seeing Chase with the horses and the care he put into them. I loved how he was with Hailey. I was so glad he acknowledged that Hailey was special to him and had been for years even when she married his best friend. For the moment intimacy between them, it was more sealing the bond between them as well as basking in their feet for on another. The intimacy was just so beautiful as it was intense and very sexy. My one complaint about the romance was that it wasn’t as angsty as I was hoping with him having all these unrequited feelings for Hailey for years on end. I thought there would be more of a struggle of them getting together as they came to accept their attraction and feelings for one another without having guilty feelings for Hailey being married to his best friend. I thought there would’ve been a lot more back-and-forth and just more tension between them before they gave into their feelings. I just wanted more of that struggle there than I got. And I wish that Hailey didn’t just focus on being physical and nothing more with Chase at first. I wish she realized she was falling for him before she gave into him. Just a missing piece that I was looking for otherwise I would’ve totally given us a five stars.

But I throughly enjoyed myself reading this and possibly see myself reading this again as well as the author. I so want to read the brothers story as well as Emma. I was a little bit disappointed about who Emma ends up with with (because I did peek) because the perfect setup was in this one, but that’s not what happened apparently.

I read this and forgot to write my review while it was fresh in mind (I've since read a spinoff book). Oops. I decided to give this a read after purchasing it a couple years ago and because I'm always up for a good cowboy romance.

I honestly wasn't a fan of Chase having one foot out the door the whole book. He had a goal, I couldn't fault him for having goals. I just wish that goal wasn't at the detriment to his safety and happiness with the woman he supposedly loved. And it wasn't that he just had one foot out the door in his relationship with Hailey. He had the same mentality with his brothers. It's because he was a foster kid and was always dumped by families. It wasn't until he was a teen that he and the other guys were all fostered by a great man who ran what is now Redemption Ranch. So I get why he was afraid of loving and being loved. But it doesn't mean I have to like him.

Hailey was a great mom, albeit a bit overprotective at times. But she had raised her son all on her own pretty much since her husband died during a rodeo. I admired her for doing what needed to be done to give her son a great life despite being fatherless.

I'll probably go back and read Book 1 and the rest of the series at some point, but I wasn't chomping at the bit to start right now.

A quick and cute read without much angst. Chase was a bit of a knucklehead that was needing a good smack to the back of his head but his heart was in the right place.

When a child is bounced around from one foster home to another, they learn not to get attached. If they do, they know it will just get taken away from them. Chase had learned that lesson well but Douglas Rawlings snuck in under his guard. The ranch was the only place he considered home. Bull riding is the only thing that Chase thought he was good for so when they needed money to keep the ranch running after Douglas passed away, that’s what Chase did. Until the last bull. Now he’s on the ranch trying to heal so he could get back to it but everyone is trying to convince him to give it up.

Hailey was a single widow trying to raise her young son., AJ. Her husband Adam was on the bull riding tour & was Chase’s best friend before his ride when bad. When he didn’t survive, she was left alone. Now, she’s accepted the job as business manager for Redemption Ranch. The job is perfect for her & comes with housing for her & AJ. There’s only one thing wrong. Chase is staying there while he recuperates. As they spend time together, the chemistry between them grows & AJ begins to get attached to him. Hailey can’t go through losing another man in her life & Chase won’t consider quitting. Where does this leave them?

Ms. Ryder does an excellent job crafting characters that engage your emotions, especially your sympathies. Chase’s childhood was terrible & he really didn’t trust anyone for a long time. He also felt responsible for Adam’s death since he’d followed Chase on the circuit. Hailey’s concern is for AJ & the attachment he is forming with Chase. She doesn’t want him to feel that loss again. I really enjoyed the journey that they went on to find their happily ever after. They both had their ups & downs & disappointments. This was a great follow up to Tara & West. I can’t wait for Ty’s story!

This pair absolutely broke my heart. They didn’t take me to quite the same place of deep angst as Tara and West, and for that I’m a little grateful. Chase has never found a place where he “sticks”. A lifetime in the foster system being bounced from placement to placement meant he never really had someplace to call home. Until Redemption Ranch. The still-looming threat of their unpaid bills has Chase doing everything in his power to earn money to make sure they keep the ranch. Hailey lost her husband – Chase’s best friend – to the rodeo. The pair have always had a connection and now she’s worried that history will repeat itself. But hers isn’t the only heart involved anymore, there’s her six-year-old son who’s already lost one father to consider too. It bears repeating: Chase and Hailey broke my heart. They feel so much for one another that it resonates off the page. But they’re both fighting so hard against all those emotions. I was so worried that they’d wouldn’t find their way through all the baggage keeping them apart to find their forever. I know I’ve only just finished reading this book, but already I’m dying to know what’s next.

I hadn't read a contemporary cowboy novel in a while and the blurb on this book sounded like something I might like. I was not disappointed with the story, the characters and the outcome. The main characters, and really, all the characters central to the story are people you would like to meet and have "a good sit down" with. But the principal characters, Chase & Hailey, have a history that needs to be finished. Hailey, along with her toddler son, AJ, returns to her hometown of Granite Junction, a few years after her husband, Adam, died while in a bull riding competition. At about the same time, Adam's best friend, Chase Summers, returns as well after suffering a bone crushing accident in a similar competition. Chase has always cared for Hailey, but never acted on his desire for her because, afterall, she was dating and then married his best friend. Now, though, all bets are off and she is available. And although Hailey has always cared for Chase, does she really want another man in her life and AJ's, that lives on the road much of the year and loves the excitement of the bull riding scene? Chase is determined to return to the rodeo once he has recovered from his injuries. Can he give up his love of the thrill of bull riding and settle down? He's carrying a lot of baggage as well as ambition. Can these two have a HEA? No cliff hanger in this story, but would love to read about the other characters in Granite Junction. Especially how Tara and West got together (that's probably story number one in the series) and then read Ty's story and then Emma & Cam's story. They all are wonderful characters that deserve their own HEA!

A sweet swoony love story

I love wounded damaged heroes - probably because they seem to deserve a happy ending the most and make him a cowboy and phew…Chase is a really good example. He’s a good guy and you just know love will let him see he’s such a kind, sweet, good guy who deserves all the good things. Chase was bounced around foster families his whole life until he ended up at the Rawlings Ranch as a teenager with his foster brothers Ty and West. Chase is a bull rider on the rodeo circuit who sends his winnings home to support the ranch. He gets badly hurt on a ride and is home temporarily to heal. Hailey grew up with Chase and married his best friend Adam who died during a bull riding competition. She’s a single mom and has no desire to get involved with Chase. Chase and Hailey’s journey to their inevitable HEA is a bit of a roller coaster ride but what a beautiful journey it is. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steam, real life issues, imperfect characters, tearful moments, and heart squeezing love - expect to laugh, to swoon, and to cry. While I love reading romances for the HEA, when real life issues are included - like death, single parenthood, foster families, and the scars those experiences leave - it makes for more three dimensional characters and more well rounded storylines. This story was a masterpiece of all the things. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

His "brothers" at the ranch are Ty and West. Ominously the bull who injured Chase is named Oleander. Second book in a series, West married or intends to marry Tara, third brother is Ty.

This theme of a widowed mother afraid her son will follow in his dead father’s footsteps has been explored before along with the love interest who is married to the rodeo. Several protracted sex scenes and profanity.

I give it two stars because I finished it, but this really didn't grab me.
I went off Chase the minute Hailey found AJ at the barn and told him off for going off on his own. Instead of backing her up, he feels the need to mansplain to her that it was all okay.
Fast forward to when AJ startles a horse Chase is working with, and Chase is over the top telling him off, like he never made excuses for the exact same behavior previously. Then, inexplicably, Hailey lets Chase off the hook, saying, "I should have told him not to do that. Honey, you did. Did the author forget that whole scene earlier?
Other than that, there was nothing memorable about this book. If they were in Kindle Unlimited, I'd consider reading Ty's story, but I wouldn't part with money to read it.

Nothing like a six-year old boy to bring life and action to a ranch. I loved the little guy. This is a great read anytime, especially when staying home with this Covid-19 virus outbreak. The story is exciting and eventful. It is an adult read with rodeo riders, bronco accidents and changed lives. The brothers had a ranch to run, women to love and hearts to break. Then, it caught up with them as they fall in love, nearly give up their man-card, and, make decisions that bring new life to the ranch. I loved it and will download the next book so I can see if all the brothers end up happy. I can already hear the guitar playing.

What a terrific book! Rodeo bull riders,a widowed Mom and her young son (who happens to be the bull rider’s nephew) and a few other characters that are starting to open a dude ranch,all make for a great read.There’s love,accidents,and much more.The widow and her son move onto what will in the next year become the new dude ranch,the first,making up a new website for said ranch,with no plans of any kind of relationship (especially since her spouse died doing rodeos) what so ever!
I couldn’t put it down,causing me to stay up much longer than I should.But don’t take my word,read it for yourself,you’ll be very glad you did!

Save your money

How do I dislike this? Let me count the ways.

1. The author does not understand when to use pronouns and when to use names, something taught around 3rd grade. This makes many passages confusing as "he" does not refer to the last-named man or the subject of the previous sentence.

2. The women are absolutely not the kinds of people I want to spend time with. They are shallow and manipulative.

3. There is a reliance on descriptive verbs such as "sashayed" and "drawled," but no showing, just lazy writing and juvenile reporting.

I will stop here. If all you want is a decent plot and sex, this is for you. I look for more.

Thoroughly enjoy her style of writing. Loved the storyline. Had round characters. Easy to imagine the characters as you read through. Although the romance wasn't as tumultuous as most was still a sweet story. Did enjoy Chase's path to adulthood, late in coming though it was. Hailey was forced to grow up sooner because of her pregnancy. Always love the family behind the main characters. Hailey's father was very interesting. Probably would have liked a little more info on him and his marriage. Very enjoyable.

Chase Summers does what he knows best and that is travelling and competing in rodeos. When he gets severely injured he finds himself back on Redemption Ranch with his brothers, healing. Hailey Spencer finds herself back home after her Mom had a health scare and now is looking for a job doing accounting when she finds herself a new job on Redemption Ranch and face to face with someone she's cared about for a very long time. This is part of a book set but can be read as a stand alone book but guaranteed you won't want to put this book down!

I know absolutely nothing about cowboys, rodeo and ranching but this book left me curious about all three. I could almost smell the ranch, fall in love with the particular brand of eccentricity that fills the West! Loved the romance,laughed and cried and could somehow feel the beauty and peace of the place!

Although the author used good language. I am insulted she saw the need to educate the reader in the most intimate details of sex instead of developing the story, telling more about A.J. how the guest ranch was coming along m and the horses. The story was there but took a back seat to the sex. What a disappointment!

You could taste the tears, feel the heat, and understand the complexity of all the characters. This was a great read, though I did find it a bit repetitive. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

This is one tough struggle for both our lovers. It is struggle to let someone go and a struggle for someone to stay. Hailey is so strong to stand her ground for herself and her son. Though it cost her and caused her so much pain she showed her strength and determination to make the best of a no win situation. I really loved this story.Enjoy!
