Alexina Kimball is an experienced Pinkerton Agent, and arguably one of the best agents at the Chicago office. She works alone and always catches the bad guys. However, everything changes when she's transferred to the Denver office and is assigned a partner.
Finally, Dawson Wayne’s dream of becoming a Pinkerton Agent is becoming a reality. The only catch is that he must marry his trainer… a beautiful, infuriating woman.
Together, they're sent to the small town of Hidden Ditch, Kansas. Their case: discover the whereabouts of two schoolteachers who've gone missing. As the stakes increase, can Alexina and Dawson work together to solve the case, or are they both too stubborn to recognize that there is more on the line than just the missing schoolteachers?
Can two headstrong agents learn to trust each other’s instincts when love is on the line?

I liked the twist in this book compared to previous books, it played nicely into the battle of wits and experience between Dawson and Alexina. Initially Alexina appears quite aloof and cold, but Dawson brings out a more teasing, almost playful side which surprises even Alexina.....and especially Archie! A fantastic read on Kindle Unlimited.
Since I committed to read all the books in this series I forced myself to continue to the end. I don’t know of any woman that would tolerate a man like that even if she were madly in love.
“To open your heart to another is one of the most daunting, but rewarding, experiences in life.” He leaned back and cupped her cheeks. “I promise that I will never hurt you, Alex Wayne. Please say that you believe me.” She smiled through unshed tears. “I believe you.”
An Agent for Alexina by Laura Beers is the second in the Pinkerton series, and a wonderfully witty, entertaining story! Alexina grew up an orphan and worked her way towards a dream—becoming a Pinkerton agent. After ten years of a flawless record, she received a new assignment, one where she has to marry Dawson Wayne to save two missing school teachers lives. What she doesn’t realize is no matter how hard she had tried to keep her heart safe, Dawson came into her life and changed everything. Will they be able to work together and figure out the mystery behind the abductions? And will they allow themselves to the reality of what their heart is telling them? This was such a fun story to read. I loved the intrigue and mystery behind the case of the missing school teachers. I love watching a strong female character take charge and own her own. But I also love the ability to soften our hearts and allow others in to work as a team. Dawson and Alexina are a great team, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story! 4.5/5 stars
I love this series because you get a romance and a crime to solve along with female agents. This one may just be my favorite because they are both so headstrong and drive each other crazy. It’s clear pretty fast that they are meant for each other. I figured out who was behind the kidnappings but wasn’t expecting how crazy they were. I loved everything about the rescue and how it brought them together even when it caused a slight misunderstanding.
Alexina keeps to herself and prefers to work alone, but Dawson easily flips her world upside down. I loved her from the start with stubborn she was. She had no problem telling men what she thought about them and is always serious.
Dawson is adorably cocky and annoying, but that’s what makes you love him so much. He has such a different back story than Alexina, but he is fascinated by the woman she is. I was holding my breath because of him during the fried apple scene. He will make you laugh with some of the things he does.
“Mark my words. I will never, ever, kiss you.” Famous last words I tell you. Alexina has never been a part of anything, she has no idea what love actually is, the concept of family is fleeting. She is a Pinkerton agent, that is what she knows and that is who she is. Dawson has always wanted to become a Pinkerton agent. He comes from a big family, knows all about love and compassion, and is determined to live out his dream. These two have some great banter between them made even better by the fact that they have to pose as brother and sister(even though they are married) taking over as teachers in the small town where the previous two female teachers have gone missing. Dawson trying to be a protective brother but coming off as a jealous lover is definitely a fun read. I definitely recommend this one to anyone who has enjoyed any of the other Pinkerton match making series.
Alexina Kimball is one of the first female agents to get the bad guys. She is angry when she discovers she is being sent to the Denver Office to train a male agent. She has no use for the males.
Dawson Wayne wants more than to be a deputy of the law. He wants some adventure and excitement tracking down the bad guys. He is excited to be accepted as an agent even if he has to train with a difficult female.
Shocked to find themselves married, both agents are sent to investigate the disappearance of some female school teachers. Dawson and Alexina have to learn to work together to find the girls. Yet, the attraction between them both is hard to fight.
This is a sweet romance that is full of adventure. It is clean and well written. I highly recommend this as a short read on a rainy day when you just want a little adventure with romance.
After a bad experience Alexina is forced to take it a bit easy. As a Pinkerton agents she’s transferred to the Denver office. She needs to train a new agent. Dawson wants to be a Pinkerton agent and his trainer is a woman. The very serious Alexina and the playful Dawson, will that ever be a good combination. Can they find the abductors of the school teachers during their undercover case? I really enjoyed it, it’s the first time that the female character needs to train the male character and this makes for a somewhat other interaction as the other books in this series. I recommend this whole series.
"I, most assuredly, will not stay married to some man I just met."
The term famous last words certainly comes to mind, especially if you have read any other book in this series.
For me, Alexina, was a refreshing change. She was training him. It was nice to see the female agent having all the experience and showing Dawson a thing or two. This was a quick read and it had all of Laura Beers' bold characters, all of which I adore. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. The role change was a delightful twist that I wasn't expecting and would love to see again. No withering flowers here.
Loved this book! In a twist on the premise, Alexina is actually an experienced agent from the Chicago office. She is being sent to work with the Denver office. For her next case, she needs to marry and train Dawson so they can search for 2 missing teachers in Kansas. I really enjoyed reading about these two. And I liked that she was training him, even though he's had experience as a deputy. They are pretending to play siblings but does that really work when you're married? Can an unloved orphan really find love? Read this book, it is clean, cute and funny!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. I enjoyed this book at Dawson and Alexia. The Pinkerton stories are quick reads with not a lot of time to give you too much background info on each character. This book quickly catches you in the storyline and flows easily and quickly. With each character you meet, you keep guessing as to who is the kidnapper of the previous two teachers. Great quick read!
Another delightful story from this author. I have not been disappointed with anything this author has written. And another wonderful book in this series. I really enjoyed the banter between Alexina and Dawson. Especially when they are married but pretending to be brother and sister for the assignment.
A great addition to the Pinkerton series. These can be read as a stand alone. Alexina who by nature is a take charge type of woman meets her match in Dawson. They worked together to solve the case of the missing teachers while denying feelings for one another. I am glad I had the captor pegged right at the beginning.
This was such a fun Pinkerton story! I really enjoyed the chemistry between the characters as well as their banter and vulnerability with each other. Such a cute, sweet, clean love story with a great ending.
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
What? A switch? Alexina is the lead agent and must train the handsome Dawson! It's beneath the talented Alexina but for the agency she does it. Now to capture the kidnappers and not fall for her partner. Alex and Dawson are very good at what they do, but the unexpected happens. Once again a great read for the Pinks!
I really enjoyed this book! Alexina was a great character, she could be tough as nails. Dawson was fun and I loved how he teased Alexina. The plot was great, kept me laughing and pulled into the book. I really hated for this book to end. Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
A great book that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Alexina is an experienced female agent and she needs to train a new male recruit! Things of course don’t quite go to plan 😁
Seasoned Pinkerton agent and the man who could turn her head. Wonderful story of adventure and heroism with a woman who could take care of herself and the victims. I do love a strong woman 😍
I really enjoyed this book, one of my favorites in this series. I loved the humor and playfulness that Dawson brought and the connection that him and Alexina had. It was very well written. A quick and enjoyable read.
She was posing as a teacher, a very unorthodox kind of teacher. What kind of teacher teaches how to pick locks? He was a new agent in training. Follow a good storyline with fun loving characters.
Fun relationship between Pinkerton newlyweds. Alexis a hardcore ten year agent who follows the rules and Dawson a fun loving new agent who does not. - Babs
