A Steamy Enemies-to-Lovers Romantic Comedy

A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from author Melissa Williams. A hot cop and a donut baker, what could go wrong?

It was a donut emergency. A dough or die moment.

At least, that’s what I’m telling myself. It would explain why, from the moment Baxter DeCavhalo comes crashing into my kitchen, I’ve been acting out of character.

Why I’m sharing secret donut recipes, licking frosting off fingers that aren’t mine, and falling for the off-limits neighbor. I know better, I need to be focusing on my bakery and my next donut creation…but there’s just something about Bax that keeps me coming back for more.

It’s not the heat of the kitchen that’s getting to me, it’s Bax. And this slow burn is about to combust.

This book made me seriously hungry for donuts! 🍩 😂 So, this was a cute read. 👍 The writing was good. 👍 It moved along at a good pace. 👍 The plot was sweet and with no angst. ⛔ It had a few interesting secondary characters. 👤👤👤 It was mildly spicey. 🔥 There was no OW or OM drama. Bax was a good hero. 👮 He didn't appear to be a manwhore. 👍 Cassidy (not a virgin, thankfully) was a little less likable. 😳 I thought she came off a little judgmental and bitchy at times. 🙈 The other small issue I had was that the book just ended very abruptly. 😳 I am not sure if this was an issue with my ARC copy, or the author just meant it to end like that. 👀 But it was very jarring and I would have loved to have seen a little more closure. 😎 Still, overall this was a cute read, and gets a solid thumbs up from yours truly. 👍

Donut Disturb is an absolutely delightful romantic comedy by Melissa Williams!

This book is sugary sweet, absolutely adorable and utterly cute! I always love a good romantic comedy, but this one just hits the spot.

We follow Cassidy Daniels, a Torontonian baker at Bake, Rattle and Roll. She owns the place with her brother and works mighty hard to make donuts there, while her brother specializes in cupcakes. She runs into Baxter DeCavhalo at the grocery store and then finds out he is her next door neighbour. How did she find this out? He basically broke in while she was blasting her music and baking donuts. The following budding friendship and romance is fun, thrilling and romantic! There's Tangled frying pan to the face vibes, MMA fighting, a thrilling side plot and some hot sex scenes littered throughout this book.

I can relate to Cassidy. She's a hard working woman who would die for her craft. She's stubborn, intelligent and knows it's hard to find a good guy sometimes.

But... be warned... this book will 100% make you hungry. The donuts sound AMAZING. It's super not fair that Melissa would torture us with such marvellous descriptions of food. It's truly cruel.

I love this book! It was a fun yet quick read that made me remember why I love romantic comedies so much. Melissa Williams has created a wonderful book and I can't wait to grab more by her! I would highly recommend picking this book up if you want a fun and light read, love romantic comedies, or want to expand your TBR to include some more indie authors.

Five out of five stars!

I received a free copy of this book from the author, Melissa Williams, in exchange of an honest review.

Quick(ish) Review

This is a very cute story that could have been so much more.

Bax and ...Cassidy (and yes I just struggled to remember her name even though I finished this yesterday) are cute, but the moments that build a connection are only alluded to, not shown to the reader. So much can be conveyed in a romance through dialogue and action, and unfortunately this story relied heavily on telling vs. showing. The danger that gives some tension to the plot, mostly happens off-page except for a couple of scenes involving Cassidy. I still don't know what happened to Cassidy in her past that made her so gun-shy towards relationships, but it didn't matter because that obstacle is resolved very quickly. Bax is all-in immediately, which I don't mind, but I'd like to see and appreciate the why. It's the outline of a fun romance, but that's about it.

This is a very low angsty, occasionally cute/funny, but its main distinguishing feature is donuts. Which is sweet, but all it left me with is a vague dissatisfaction when all is said and done. YMMV, however, so if you like this type of story, perhaps it'll work better for you than it did for me.

Aside from the editorial errors (jumping from past to present tense within a sentence, spelling errors, missing punctuation, etc.), I just didn't like the book.

The characters were shallow and not fun at all. There were a lot of scenes where I thought 'Ehh..why?!' There is oftentimes the missing common sense, sometimes the h being/pretending to be unaware of the simplest things..this book just drove me up a wall.

There was instalove, one of my biggest pet peeves, there wasn't a lot of character development on the page. The development of h's character did happen off the page which I just don't like.

This time I wasn't swept off my feet.

Besides the fact that our heroine is extremely addicted to her craft and will literally die before you ruin her donuts, this one was a fun and good book. It was cute, fluffy, and romantic featuring a baker who loves making donuts and a cop who loves eating them. The only part that rubbed me the wrong way was her being too crazy for donuts. I think she may need some professional help if she's clutching her batter close to her like she would for own baby lol.

What an adorable and sexy romantic comedy! A perfect antidote for all your reading cravings.

This cute and fast-paced story is about an overworked baker named Cassidy and her hot-cop neighbor who has a craving for her donuts. They meet cute and then all sorts of chemistry and sexy times ensue!

The author's writing style reminded me of Tessa Bailey and is laugh-out-loud funny with some seriously hot scenes between Cassidy and Bax, her growly, gorgeous neighbor. And look out, Bax has some sexy brothers who I am sure will be getting their own stories soon!

Set in Toronto, I ate this story up and devoured it in one sitting. Sometimes you need a fun, light palate cleanser in between heavier reads and 'Donut Disturb' is just that.

I enjoyed this lovely book and look forward to more from this very talented author. Cassidy and Bax had a wonderful slow-burn romance that took a surprising turn and I liked the little bit of suspense mixed in with this sexy romcom. 'Donut Disturb' will have you craving a hot donut by the time you are finished! Enjoy!

I was looking for a light and fluffy romantic comedy when I came across this book and it sounded just like what I was looking for. It didn't hurt that it also has such a colourful and eye-catching cover! I was sold. Unfortunately though, this book didn't work out for me.

The plot and character arcs felt very underdeveloped because everything seemed to happen off-page.
There were many allusions to "something not being right" with the friendships and sibling relationships, and that's even before we get into the police drama that stems from Bax's work as a police detective. It felt like there was a lot happening in the story but at the same time, not much either, if that makes sense. It all came across as very vague.

I also didn't connect with our heroine or hero. Cassidy seems to have a history of being hurt and so has built up her walls; however, we never really learn about what made the walls go up in the first place. Again, hints of her history are dropped but we don't get any details. Of course these walls end up being a barrier to whatever is going on with Bax, but after some not-very-nice hints from her best friend about her inability to trust anyone, Cassidy simply decides that she's going to let Bax in... And she does it. Despite a rough meet-cute for our characters, Bax became very quickly "all-in" with Cassidy. He decides at one point during their second interaction that he wants all or nothing, and he's going to make Cassidy realise that he's serious about them. I didn't get it. Yeah, she's quirky and makes delicious donuts but... That's it? Don't tell me he's all in, show me why! I felt very little chemistry between them and that made their steamy scenes also fall flat for me.

Overall, a fairly disappointing read. It just never clicked for me and that's disappointing because I was expecting more... Even the part about the bakery, which I thought would leave me with endless donut cravings, didn't even really do that... I'm glad that I did give this a try though--I don't think I could've resisted such a cute cover for very long, but I'm also glad it was on Kindle Unlimited.

I can’t resist a book title with clever wordplay or a cute, colorful, illustrated cover, so DONUT DISTURB by Melissa Williams was like catnip to me.

This book had elements of several different genres (RomCom, Contemporary Romance, even Suspense), so I hesitate to categorize it as just one. The story centers on the budding romance between a gorgeous police detective and a donut baker who have a very funny meet-cute in a grocery store when the story opens. Cassidy and Baxter continue to cross paths and their attraction soon becomes undeniable.

The heroine has an interesting backstory that ties into her feelings about relationships, and I loved how truly devoted and passionate she was about her career as a baker. All of the details about donut-making, including the creativity involved with inventing/testing new flavors, were all very interesting to me, and added a lot of authenticity to the story. Things get steamy, then dangerous, for Cassidy and Baxter, as their romance develops and a bad guy goes after both of them. There were some heart-pounding scenes toward the end of the book that had me on the edge of my seat!

Along with the leads, this book introduced several intriguing supporting characters who work at Cassidy’s bakery and will be spotlighted in future books in the series. I am reading Book 2, WORTH THE WHISK, right now and thoroughly enjoying it!

A sweet treat for our romantic cravings. I laughed and smiled with this cute romcom. And craved doughnuts like a starved cop.

This story features a frantic baker and a hot neighbour with a weakness for her doughnuts. They might clash over the last packet of bacon and some painful early morning shenanigans, but soon a wonderfully exhilarating chemistry pops up between them.

The writing style is lively, really funny, and pictures both characters as they connect in very entertaining scenes. I really ate it all up in no time. It was delicious!

Cassidy is devoted to her bakery and has trust issues, so some hilarious self-denial takes place as she fights her overwhelming attraction to the impossibly tempting neighbour. He comes loaded with muscles, a charming smile, a tough job, and brothers who are also worthy of a second look.

This lovely couple goes from enemies to lovers in lots of sweet moments shared over recipes of doughnuts, mounting trust and a slow-burn passion that really explodes at the right time. And oh the surprising turn it takes towards the end is very empowering, heroic and heart-pounding. I loved everything about this book, so I am convinced that I will be waiting for the next book from this author with anticipation.

This was such a sweet read! I don’t mean that just because we’re talking about donuts here.

"From the moment she’d knocked some sense into him with a frying pan he was done for."

Cassidy was easily likable and was downright adorable at times. She just wanted to make donuts and live her life. Next thing she knows, she has a hot cop living next door who’s super into her. The romance between Cassidy and Bax was cute and swoon worthy. It was low angst and you couldn’t help but root for them.

This was a sweet quick read and we were also given some suspense. The next book is about her brother and I hope I enjoy it as much as I liked this one!

New to me author and books! I was soo ready for a good rom-com and this is exactly what I got! A good laugh, swooning and romance!! LOVE LOVED everything about this story!!

Cassidy and Bax's story is not only a rom-con but also a WHEN TWO SOULS THAT ARE MEANT TO BE meet. Every one of their meets was cute, fun, and full of sizzling energy and laughter. Not to mention that I was hungry through out the whole book, specifically for doughnuts and Bax ;) Their story wasn't ordinary and it was so sweet how they brought out the best from one another.

Full of genuine feelings, looks, romance, swoon, little but of suspense and lot's of laughter & ALL THE FEELS!! Only thing that I needed was a little more of the ending. It kind of went quick if that makes sense. But I will be looking forward to reading more by the author & thank you for my ARC!

Warning FYI, you’ll probably crave donuts throughout this whole book. Cassidy owns a bakery and her specialty is donuts. An abrupt surprising meet with Bad in a grocery story has not painted each other in a good light, but, they didn’t think they’d see each other again right? Turns out, they are neighbors and they have this attraction to each other like magnets.

I enjoyed this story, it was cute. It has some laughs and a little bit of suspense. The two characters were pretty darn cute and hot together. This was a quick and enjoyable read.

I’m sorry to have to say that I did NOT enjoy this book. Read no further if you don’t want elaboration.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

First, largest, most egregious error: author does not maintain the same tense throughout the book - or even the same PARAGRAPH. She switched between first person present and past THE ENTIRE BOOK, often from one sentence to the next. 🙀🙀🙀 It was beyond maddening, and completely unprofessional. There were also copious other errors. Please, please authors, have someone competent proof your books before publishing. Please. If you can’t find someone, contact me. Please.

My other issues are relatively minor in comparison, but still noteworthy.

1) Insta-Love. Come on - haven’t we graduated past this unrealistic device? Even I who met my husband at 16 years old, started dating him 3 days after meeting, was engaged 2 months later, and am still married to him 27 years later, find Insta-Love unbelievable and a bit of a cop-out. We need a decent amount of believeable interaction between characters before flying headfirst into LOVE.

2) Everything felt rushed. Like, everything. Characterization, plot, setting - all were blown by at light speed. And then a strange “danger” subplot was thrown in there. Too much, too fast, too little time to get to know anyone or anything.

I loathe leaving bad reviews, and I can see I am in the minority. I am glad other people enjoyed this book and wish the author well in her writing career. I just hope she slows down a little, invests a bit more in developing her stories and characters and finds a very helpful proofreader.

After first seeing this, I immediately fell in love with the cover and title. It’s adorable, right? It’s equally as adorable inside.

And hilarious. Cassidy, the heroine, was a walking ball of sunshine equipped with the best baking puns. Along with her brother, she owns the local bakery, Bake, Rattle & Roll. Her attention has been primarily focused on the control of her success, not leaving much room for love.

Beginning with a grocery store feud over the last package of bacon, followed by an accidental blackout due to a frying pan, I couldn’t stop smiling at this wild meet cute scenario. Bax unknowingly becomes the push for Cassidy to overcome her need to control everything in her life (something I can definitely relate to).

It was pure fun. And very steamy! I wasn’t expecting that from the quirky plot, but I’m definitely not complaining. There’s something about romantic kitchen scenes that I absolutely love.

Really, my only complaint is the polar opposite tones the plot shared. Bax is a detective with the Toronto Police Department and his work is a huge part of the story. The humour didn’t blend well for me with the seriousness of a high-profile police case.

I still adored this, though. I am definitely picking up the next in the series, Worth the Whisk

I'm not sure how I feel about this book but here goes:
First of all, the book was presented as a enemies to lovers. I believed the enemies to lovers part until maybe the second chapter? The action develops fast, really fast. I hadn't realized it would go that way because it was so short but still... Maybe don't market it as enemies to lovers if the hate lasts two chapters?
The plot is good but I have to agree with many of the reviewers that have commented on this book: the action happens behind the scenes. If we go back to the enemies-to-lovers, the reader does not see how Cassidy and Bax go from one stage to another. How does Cassidy from one day to the other just trust everybody? Does it seem plausible that she just wakes up one day and she goes 'you know what my friend is right I will change everything about my routine/life today'? Or that she basically falls in love with a complete stranger in a matter of days*? In my opinion, the best recipe for Romance is one that mixes reality with sprinkles of fiction. This book, from the beginning, felt rushed. Again, I get it's most likely because it's a short book but it doesn't excuse that a short book could be better and fast paced without missing entire plotlines.
And what bothered me the most: the editing mistakes. Look, I have nothing against self-published authors, I applaud you for trying your hardest to get your book out there. But it does NOT excuse not revising your book. The constant change from past to present, grammar mistakes and some orthographical errors ticked me off. Without mentioning that most Romance books I've read that are written in both main character's POVs use the same person to write in. With this I mean that it confused me a little that Cassidy was written in a 1st person POV and Bax in 3rd person. This last one is not bad or unoriginal but it did confuse me.

Overall: yes, a cute read but I felt it was more centered in the erotic scenes rather than the actual plot and what the characters were feeling.

* I saw someone refer to this as 'instant love' and I hadn't realized how much I hated it until someone else pointed it out.

I LOVED every single moment of this book. It was hilariously sweet with a little bit of suspense. You really can’t go run with an adorable donut baker and a sexy detective who have INSANE chemistry.
Melissa Williams is a new to me author and after reading this book I know that I will be reading more of her books in the future.

Cassidy and Bax had one of the best meet cutes, think Tangled and a frying pan. Well, second meeting, the first one was also pretty good, but they really didn’t think they would ever see each other again. I was dying of laughter the entire time. There was instant chemistry between them and it only continued to grow throughout the story.

Cassidy’s family was hilarious and added even more comedy to this story. Of course, there was also not shortage of steam sprinkled in. Bax’s family was also entertaining, the little bits we got of them. The relationship with his brothers was fantastic.

I loved that there was some suspense mixed in with all the sweet, steamy and laugh out loud moments.

Grab a donut (you'll want one after all the times they are mentioned) and sit back Donut Disturb is a MUST READ!

I found Donut Disturb randomly on kindle unlimited. This was one of the recommendations from Amazon. It was a very quick read, I ended up reading it in one sitting, it was sweet and cute.

It is marketed as an enemies to lovers book, but the book is so short that the enemies last for like two minutes. There is also some romantic suspense, and of course some laughs. Cassidy was adorable. She was quirky and cute and I really liked her. I felt like I knew Bax a little less. He was fine, I liked him, but the Cassidy’s POV chapters were told in the first person and Bax’s were in the third person. This made me connect with him a little less.

There is also some serious insta love here. Look this book is short so I get it, but I think maybe the small enemies to lovers section could have been removed in favor of a meet cute. Overall, I enjoyed this book and intend to continue on with the series. The next book is about Harrison Cassidy’s brother who seems like a very interesting character.

If you are looking for a quick cute read then pick up Donut Distrub. Be aware this book will leave you craving donuts though.

I made it 66% through this book. It truly hurt to read and I shouldn't have made it this far. I decided that the best thing to do would be to end my suffering and dnf. If I finish I know I will leave a negative rating, and I don't have the heart to do that to an author with three published books and a little over 20 total reviews.

Melissa Williams is brand spanking new to me and when I ran across this book I HAD TO HAVE IT. Oh my goodness talk about hot cop and donut heaven plus an adorable cover and hilarious title! Sign me up every single day of the week y'all.

Donut Disturb was such good fried doughy perfection and left me panting for hot cops and donuts... no joke. Williams packed some serious punches in this sweet read and delivered a fast, sweet, steamy, laugh out loud, insta-connection romance that had me glued to the pages until they stopped turning and racing to the end for that sugary sweet happy ending that both Bax and Cassidy totally deserved.

From that hilarious first meeting between these two to the sizzling, unstoppable chemistry that pinged when they were together to the hilarious, back and forth banter that didnt stop until the very end... this book won me over by the very end (not a super fan of third person but this book... worth it!) and left me hoping it's the baker brother that is up next.

Seriously do not read this book if you are hungry because bacon and donuts!! 🤤

I definitely recommend this book.

🔥🔥🔥🔥 steam level

Thank you to the author for this complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

what i liked:
This book had some really funny moments. Cassidy’s inner dialogue made me laugh out loud. It was a really quick read that definitely made me crave donuts!

Ready for my favorite quotes? I knew you were ready:

Were they…blasting country music? Inconsiderate and bad taste. This was a nightmare, it had to be.

“Mom, you hate exercise.”
“No, I don’t!” she yelled. “I’m very active.”
I rolled my eyes. By her definition, fast walking from the couch to the kitchen and back before Netflix started playing a new episode was “very active.”

what i didn't like:
My biggest hold up with the book was how things were said on the page that I didn’t feel off the page. Cassidy had some relationship hold ups that I didn’t get to learn about as a reader. I didn’t feel Bax’s and Cassidy’s relationship develop even though I was reading it.

Overall it was a quick fun read which was what I needed when I needed it!

Happy Reading,
Dux

Silly (not in a good way) and awkward all over.
First of all, writing. This book really needs a couple more edits. Typos, mistakes ... so. many. awkward. sentences. The parts with 3rd person (male) POV were mostly fine (although there wasn't a lot of them), but the 1st person female POV was just a mess. I think it was supposed to be present-tense first-person POV, but the tense kept jumping constantly between past and present in the middle of paragraphs.
Second of all, personally, I feel like the author should have stuck with donuts ... because the 'crime' element inserted is awkward and unbalanced, with a mix of explanations that feel childish and events that were nothing but. The way a murdered girl was inserted and handled (as in not handled at all) was especially unfortunate. Much of it was just not believable and left and awkward aftertaste. The one you get with the strong feeling that the author doesn't really know what they are talking about.
Although I tried not to read the baking descriptions too closely either...

Aaaaaand this book is just like a donut --- light, sweet, and essentially, not filling or nutritious. It will hit the spot if you're craving for a snack to go with coffee. It's a basic, sugar raised or honey dipped donut that you can get anywhere --- it's okay but not a gourmet dessert. It's a cute, fluffy kind of book if you like that sort of thing. But honestly, I've read cuter and swoonier. Also, all it made me want to do after I finished it, is to go hunt up some donuts. LOL.

The other point I'd like to note is that I don't know if I'd tag this as a real "enemies-to-lovers" story (as the blurb on the book leads one to believe). Cassidy, imo, was more wary of Bax because of her own issues. She actually was quite attracted to him. And Bax was all about his lust/like/love for her too.

Donut Disturb was such a fun read! The chemistry between the characters was hot, hot, hot! I loved how they met, how they ended up having a relationship, and the teeny tiny bit of romantic suspense added into the plot. It weighed heavily on the instant love side of things, but with a romance this short it didn't bug me. Oh, and it was weird that Cassidy's POV was in first person and Bax's was in third. That wasn't my favorite. But overall I enjoyed every minute I read this. I need to thank my friend Kayla for pointing me in the direction of this book. I can't wait to read more in the series.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, crazy chemistry and sweet love.

This is Cassidy and Bax’s story. Take one hot cop and one baker of donuts and what do you have but a funny sweet love story. This story takes to people who should be working and throws them together for lots of sexy and funny banter. All the banter keeps you turning the pages and laughing it up. Can they make it work or will the donuts be the only thing that has a sweet ending?

I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book as a light quick read. Cassidy and Bax were both fun, interesting and mostly relatable/ believable main characters.
My main reason for the lower rating is that everything moved so quickly. This is insta-love and if you hate that you will not enjoy this. I went with the flow on that but it still jarred me enough to take me out of the book.
I wish we got to know a bit more about both Cassidy and Bax though. It was hinted about their pasts ALOT but we never really found out what happened with either of them.
Overall I now just want doughnuts.

Donut Disturb was absolutely adorable. It was only "enemies " for a few chapters until it turned into sweet chemistry. This romantic comedy had me chuckling from page. A romance between a detective and baker that went together perfectly like hot coffee and doughnuts 😂🍩

Cute storyline that I flew through but 12 hours after finishing, I feel the need to share a trigger warning (and minor spoiler).

I was not prepared for the inclusion of an intruder and the subsequent attempt of violence with a gun, and it was hard to read through. Hopefully others will be more prepared.
