2.0⭐️ Well, if you love Alpha wolf shifter books with frequent rough sex with very little plot, this book is for you. I love shifter books, all kinds of shifters. I’ve read many. I expect sexual encounters, sometimes frequent and/or rough, sometimes not. I also like alpha men whether they are shifter or not.
Why then am I so ambivalent about this book? On the plus side, I loved the main characters and their interactions with friends and families. Dade’s loyalty was commendable, but I sometimes disliked his tendency to be too overbearing and high-handed. I loved Halle’s strength and intelligence, and I adored her wise and feisty grandmother. Dade’s parents, brother, as well as the pack were warm and accepting of Halle. That was an unexpected and delightful aspect of the book that resonated with me. The sexual build-up was well done, and the sex between Dade and Halle was explosive, no doubt about it.
On the other hand, where in the hell was the plot? Sex, sex, incessant sex, WITHOUT A PLOT is simply a book about two people f****ing. Had I wanted that, I could have my pick of any number of very well-written, purely erotic books. But, that’s NOT what I wanted to read at this time. This is a major flaw.
Having no plot, coupled with the annoying editing problems (e. g., writing dinner instead of diner repeatedly) made this book a decidedly unsuccessful and an ineffectual offering for me. I could have been paying bills instead!!
I hope the next book I do read by this author will be substantially better and much more entertaining (i. e., an interesting plot, major editing fixes and less gratuitous sex). Accordingly, I will feel like I put my valuable time to good use (and I could put off paying those pesky bills a little longer). 🥴
n.b.: I have read some of Ms Thayer’s books previously without major complaint. Please do better for your readers and fans Ms. Thayer.
