Rider: Both on and off the ice, I’m known as the Wingman. When it comes to my teammates, I’m the ice breaker, happy to help them look good with the ladies, and once I set the play in motion, my job is to disappear. I have zero problems fading into the background. Hell, being invisible saved my ass more than once in foster care. Now, a hot little nurse has asked me to be her wingman, but the uncertainty in her big, brown eyes slay me. I know that feeling—the fear of rejection—all to well, and for once, watching from the sideline is a no go.
Jules: When it comes to relationships, I need all the help I can get. When Rider agrees to be my buffer, I happily put myself in his capable hands. It isn’t his fault my date goes south, but the tough as nails hockey player takes it personal. Under his wing, I find the freedom to let go, and the joy of having it accepted. But can two people, one afraid he’s unlovable and the other afraid to love, trust in themselves enough to realize this could be their shot at happily ever after?
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cathryn Fox is a wife, mom, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She loves dogs, sunny weather, anything chocolate (she never says no to a brownie) pizza and red wine. Cathryn lives in beautiful Nova Scotia with her husband, who is convinced he can turn her into a mixed martial arts fan. When not writing, Cathryn can be found Skyping with her son living in Seattle (could he have moved any farther away?) shopping with her daughter in the city, watching a big action flick with her husband, or hanging out and laughing with friends.
Ms. Fox did a great job of building the friendship between Rider and Jules. They were cute how they each needed the other in their life. It took some different events for them to realize how deeply they had fallen and how much they meant to each other! I really loved this one!
I have two choices writing this review. [SPOILER] On the one hand I want to share that Jules insecurity is recognizable. I know what its like to being told that you're bad at being intimate. I was able to empathize because of that. It would have been better if Cathryn had taken her time getting Jules to reach the promised land. That brings me to the second choice. The fact that all the erotic scenes in this series are alike. From how it begins, what all the man moan and the last curse word just before they collapse. It's monotonous.
While I enjoyed Wingman, I failed to read about much hockey action. It's almost wrong to advertise this as a hockey story, however it's very well written. Character interaction was well developed, but didn't delve very far into the issues these characters are living with. I understand this is a shorter read, so full blown development can't be expected, it's just a shame because there is so much fodder available.
I love hockey romance series and this was a great addition to this one. I had not read this author before this series but now I'm hooked, I'm going to look up all her book and binge read I can't wait for her next book
Hockey player Rider Lewis has always been a wingman for his friends because after being in foster care. He doesn’t think he will ever have his own family after his crappy upbringing. Rider stepped in when nurse Jules Murray was being bothered and sent the guy on his way. Rider decided to be friends with Jukes because she was the first person in a while that didn’t know who he was or even watched hockey.
The Wingman is a friend-to -lovers where Rider and Jules got to know each other first before deciding to friends with benefits.
I like the entire series and I’m hoping Alek has the next story in the series.
Another great hockey story by Cathryn. Rider and Jules are perfect for each other. They learn to trust and love unconditionally finding their happy ending. I can't wait for the next story in this series!
