I've really gotten into kettlebells during the coronavirus lockdown. My gym shut down indefinitely in March, and after a couple of weeks cooped up in the house, I realized that my normal routine of Mark Rippetoe's barbell lifts would not be coming back any time soon. I fortunately had a 1 pood Onnit kettlebell sitting in a corner of my apartment, as well as free Mark Wildman instructional videos on YouTube explaining the core exercises. You can often catch me on the roof of my apartment, watching the sunset over the Chicago skyline as I move through the core movements in this book to the tune of a HIIT timer. I don't have to go to a gym and put myself at risk of the 'rona. Plus, the functional and well-rounded strength is exactly what I'm going for at this point in my life. I've never really cared for vanity muscles, or the physical imbalances and weight gain that growing them entails.
This $1 kindle book has been a great supplement to my trial-and-error with the kettlebell. Proper technique is just as crucial with kettlebells as it is with barbells. I want to do these exercises for the rest of my life, and the higher volume of reps requires a good foundation of movement to protect the joints. A video says a thousand words, and the hyperlinks in this book to footage of the author performing the movements correctly are much more time-efficient than rewatching a longer and more-detailed YouTube video.
This book is the perfect antidote to someone suffering from analysis paralysis when it comes to kettlebells! I’ve read other books and watched videos in an attempt to further my knowledge on this tool and to get myself going with a kettlebell routine. Information overload is easy to do as there are multiple knowledgeable gurus out there. Pat stays true to the title of his book and gives you exactly what you need and nothing more! The 7 day routine he gives to break in to kettlebell training looks like just the thing to get a trainee off to a good start too! I’m looking forward to starting it myself. Great work Pat!
Incredible beginner book for kettlebelling. I am not a novice, but this book is great for perfecting technique, and provides an excellent starter routine that is fun, full of variety, and most importantly, teaches the fundamentals of kettlebelling. I am a follower of the great Pavel tsatsouline, and i must say, this book is as user friendly and effective as most of the Pavel books I've used.
This is basic in the best possible way. Less is more in kettlebells. Only three complimentary are required to become strong and fit—though the author does give you some more for variety and to combat the tedium of repetition. Great place to start. Simple and effective.
Clear, concise & minimalistic. All you will need to get started . Good stuff and helps demystify the world of kettlebells. After reading have been trying the Turkish get up. I suspect will take bit more time to get comfortable but the video links certainly help!
This book seems like a great starting point for kettlebells. Simple, easy to understand and gets right to the point without a lot of blah blah blah. I can’t wait to get started.
I wanted a simple straightforward intro to using KB, which would help and inspire me to use this piece of kit at home and stop using it as a doorstop. This book delivered with good simple instructions and no jargon. For the complete novice the down to earth explanations made sense and has inspired me to start on my KB journey. Recommend this to everyone as a go to starting manual for beginners.
This is exactly what it sounds like, an intro to the basic kettlebell exercises and a basic one week program repeatable for a few weeks, to get you started. Mostly an giveaway to sell some of the other services/books/programs the author has available. Worth the dollar if that sounds like what you need.
Exercise descriptions were easy to understand, images were helpful, and I will be able to go back and use this book as a tool when I need to brush up on technique in the future. It was a very quick read and I found it to be helpful. It didn’t blow me away, but it did the job. Solid 3 out of 5.
I've been working out with kettlebells for a while, but was intimidated with the compound moves like snatch or get up. This broke it down nicely with photos as well as link to video, which I found very helpful. No fluff, just basic information. Good stuff!
Great primer for fundamental exercises/principles for exercising with kettlebells.
Worth reading before a more comprehensive b ook or engaging in a more comprehensive program. While a bit short, I don’t think that is a bad thing here as I re read it often.
A very simple straightforward no nonsense book that is easy to understand. Keeps exercise descriptions to a minimum but enough details to grasp really looking forward to getting stuck into kettle bells.
