This was the he-man voice of 1947, a little bit Bogart in 'To Have And have Not', and a lot of 'just us guys' friendly and engaging bullshit. A very fun read!
'Trader Vics' Book of Food and Drink' is mainly knock-you-down cocktails made chiefly with rum, and some random recipes that by no means should be mistaken for authentic Trader Vic cuisine. He makes no bones about the fact that these recipes are just his Americanized take on pan-Asian dishes. If you're looking to eat like your grandparents, or want to know why your great-aunt always made that one weird dish with pineapple, raisins, and canned bean sprouts in it, here's your guide.
Yes, there are regrettable illustrations, and yes, the author swears and makes distinctly mysogynistic statements; this is 1947 from a white guy's perspective. Expect nothing less.
