NC-35

Rate this book
For the first time ever, NC-35 is available in its complete and uncut form. Thanks to fifteen years of heavy litigation, the horror novel that rocked the censors can finally be enjoyed by the public. Reader beware, due to a mix of contractual and legal obligations, the author, nor the publisher, is allowed to share what this novel is about. This book contains subject matter that can cause severe mental trauma and psychotic tendencies. Read NC-35 at your own risk.

I was very turned off by the lack of information on this book. The only reason I read it was because it was free on Kindle Unlimited. Now I don't want to spoil much, but I also do want to save other potential readers the pain of trying to decipher what this is all about. So there is a rather impromptu showing of a mystery film NC-35 at a local theater. No one knows anything about the film, who is bringing it to this town, etc, but people are hired to work the event and attend as guests. The movie doesn't start and the audience members are suddenly thrust into this nightmare scenario where basically every form of monster, villain, zombie, ghoul, and whatnot is involved at some point. So the big question remains...what is NC-35. Is it a massive publicity stunt? Is everything actually happening? Are these people even alive? The whole story revolves around no one knowing what is happening, ranging from the characters to the reader. Now this was a very unique idea. I'll give credit where it's due. And the entire story is summed up nicely during the last chapter, so there are no confusing twists or turns. And that was all fine, but the effect of this big mystery got muddled in with everything else. This book is well over two hundred pages, and most of it just seems like an excuse to involve every aspect of horror movies in one story. After the first hundred pages, I got very fatigued, especially knowing that I wasn't even halfway at that point. So again, I wanted to enjoy the ending more than I did, but it was just all a bit much of a journey to get there. I feel like the book could have been drastically shorter and more condensed, saving the reader a lot of unnecessary time and effort. And again, I hated the fact that there was no information on the story going in. And throughout the story, we follow several characters who are put through different incarnations of themselves, which was also hard to keep track of. So while I like Alan Spencer's writing, and thought this was a novel idea, I didn't like the actual execution of this premise.

This sure is one crazy ride! From the very beginning I was hooked. I couldn't wait to figure out what NC35 was and meant. I felt like the unsuspecting people in the movie theater, not sure whatever bizarre horror the author would have prepared next. This book has everything, from creative deaths to cannibals to aliens to Frankenstein to a sorority house that eats people to aliens to a whole bunch more bizarro stuff. The best part is that there is a plot. And an ending that makes everything make sense. At one point I was worried that I would never know what NC35 was. The ending pulled it all together. The few books I have read by this author have not disappointed me and I'm excited to read more of his stuff.

This book was so much fun! I really don't want to give too much of a synopsis because not knowing what it's about was half of the fun.

If you're not familiar with Alan Spencer's writing, it's a B-movie lover's dream. If you don't like your horror schlocky, campy, and often times gorey, this is not the book for you. But for those of us who thirst for the over-the-top antics of 80's/90's horror films, Alan Spencer deserves a special place in your heart.

Some of the scenes bordered on the extreme, but I think I know what this story is about. This is only my interpretation. It starts out as everyone going to see a movie nobody knows anything about. Just after it starts, things start to go bad for our characters. And if anyone is killed, they come back as someone else, but yet they still look like they did before they died, just a different name.
When the movie started, everyone was in a trance. I believe it was like what blinking lights or subliminal images does to a person. You get so deep into the dream that things start to seem real... So real to the point that you can't wake up... And in your mind you do things that you know you won't do in real life.
This book had characters that you felt for and was hoping things would eventually turn out better, even though each scenario left you guessing. I know each reader will have their own idea about this book, but I couldn't stop reading it. I just had to know what would happen next!!!
