Cross Crease

Heaven ~

I was fourteen the first time I laid eyes on the smoking hot, silver-eyed goalie. Damon Wolfe was the most gorgeous boy I’d ever seen. All it took was one glance, one sentence and my heart was his.

But I was too young, and he was too broken.

Seven years later he’s the biggest off-the-ice player in the NHL, and I’m his virginal best friend—a problem I have the perfect solution to. But Wolfe refuses to help me out. He claims he doesn’t want to ruin our friendship.

Yet, somehow, his eyes say something different whenever he looks at me.

Wolfe ~

The first time I looked into those sparkling eyes I was a goner. With one look she sent all my inner demons running.

But she was just a kid and I was too damaged.

Seven years later Heaven is now my best friend. She’s also a woman with a single-minded mission—to get laid.

She wants me to take her virginity and teach her about sex. But I can’t cross that line with her. Once we do, there’s no going back…and a man like me doesn’t deserve a girl like her.

Elizabeth Hartey scores a hat trick with book three in the On the Edge series, CROSS CREASE; This is goalie, Damon Wolfe’s and Heaven Andersen’s story. Heaven is the younger sister of Dakota (Dak) Andersen from Book one, CROSS STROKE. This sports romance is suitable for adult readers.

I had been looking forward to Damon‘s and Heaven’s story. It exceeded my expectations. I adored this book. I liked Damon and Heaven characters in the previous stories. I valued how their characters were developed in this book. They both have a lot of depth. They are lovable characters that respected and enjoyed. I appreciated learning more about Damon’s background. It explained a lot about his personality. My heart went out to him. I loved how competitive Heaven and Wolfe are. I also enjoyed their cheesy pickup lines. The plot was clever and skillfully executed.

You could follow CROSS CREASE as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading the other books as well. It makes you further appreciate the characters knowing more of their background. Followers of Elizabeth Hartey will not be disappointed. I recommend this novel to people who enjoy sports romances and/or best friend’s little sister romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Sadly, this book was very hard to get through. It was all about sex and really nothing else. There were some under tones of a plot but they weren't executed very well. I'm probably in the minority on this one, but it was to me, hard to read when there wasn't a good storyline. I also thought it was weird that the book skipped ahead month and years before the story actually was in present day.

Heaven has been in love with her older brother, Dak's fellow hockey player friend, Damon Wolfe, for years. She's also been his friend for years. So you'd think he'd do her this one tiny favor and relieve her of her v card. But nope, he won't do it, for various reasons. But one drunken night later and boom, there ya go, problem taken care of. Can these two figure out a way to be together without the world getting in the way?

Cross Crease is such enjoyable reading. I adored Heaven - she's got such a huge, compassionate heart and her love for wayward animals was to be admired. At times I wanted to shake her for putting up with Damon's bs, but at the same time, I admired her for her loyalty and her loving nature. And I knew that his behavior just stemmed from his horrible childhood. Still...she so deserved to be treated like a queen and he at times didn't treat her that way, and it infuriated me. I loved their journey though, from friends to more, much more. Though this is the first of this series that I've read, you can bet that after having read and loved this one, I will be on the lookout for more from Elizabeth and this hockey series.

This book was a fun, enjoyable, captivating, and seductive read!

This is the second book I’ve read in this book series. Last year, I had the privilege of reading and reviewing Book Two, “Cross Drop,” so I was thrilled to get the chance to read Mrs. Hartey’s latest work, “Cross Crease.”

I liked the main characters, Heaven and Wolfe. They were likable, realistic, and genuine. I enjoyed Heaven – she was kind, simple, sweet, innocent, smart, compassionate. But she was also quite naïve and immature in the beginning. Wolfe’s characteristics were quite the opposite of Heaven’s as he’s more the sexy, naughty, bad boy, charming, charismatic, player type. However, he too, is quite juvenile and adolescent in the beginning. I think one of the best attributes of this book is the character arcs of Heaven and Wolfe. Their journey over the course of the book shows wide growth, overcoming significant personal demons, increased self-awareness, improved self-esteem, and an overall true transformation!

A strong character development journey to root for and enjoy watching it unfold!

I also really liked Heaven and Wolfe together! There is so much chemistry between these two and it was entertaining watching Wolfe try to fight it. Not to mention all the hilarious witty banter that went back and forth between Heaven and Wolfe!! Oh and of course those silly, cheesy pick-up lines were quite entertaining as well!!

I loved that many of the characters from the previous books in the series made significant appearances throughout the book! It was great being able to catch back up with Dalt and Nikki from book two!! They were total favorites, so it was great seeing them still together and ever so adorable married and with two kids!!

I also enjoyed the hockey sports element about Wolfe being the big hot-shot goalie. That was really cool getting an insider glance into that world. My family and I are hockey fans and I enjoyed that the author was able to fully bring that realm into the pages without skimping over important details.

It’s very clear and impressive the amount of detail Mrs. Hartey put into researching the hockey field and was able to apply it in an easy to understand tone for all readers regardless their level or exposure to the sport.

I have to say, I found this book to be a bit more risqué than the previous book in the series. Both books are filled with many sexy, passionate scenes. However, this book basically starts out with Wolfe getting a BJ in the living room in front of his roommate, Dak, who is on video chat with his little sister, Heaven – who can’t stop gawking!!! So, yeah, just letting you know this book seemed to throw a few more blushing scenes in your face lol!!!

There are some very predictable scenes. However, there are still a few unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!

This book is book three of the On the Edge Book Series. This book can be read as a standalone, however, there are significant character overlap from the previous books. As you can see, I had only read book two before reading this book and didn’t get confused or lost. However, I personally would think it would make more sense and have a stronger impact on the understanding of this book series, if you started with book one first.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all contemporary sports romance readers will like this book too – and this book series! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!

I really liked this book! Hockey romances are my favorite sports romances even though I know 0 about the sport. I read this book as a stand alone and didn't realize it was a part of a series until I was finished and wanted to read more of this author's books. It's the third book in a series.
At first I wasn't sure I would get into this book because Heaven, as a 19 year old at the time, acted so childish while expecting everyone to treat her as an adult. Fortunately, this didn't last for long and things get really good. Also it took me awhile to get the male characters names straight. D, Dalt, Dak, Batt...
Heaven is a kindhearted, loyal, nurturing woman who is devoted to Wolfe. He has a lot of anguish due to his life as a child. At times the book was a little bit wordy and sometimes the dialogue was a little awkward but the writing was very good as was the editing with only a couple of flaws. I highly recommend this book. I received this book from NABC for an honest review.

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

Oh D how I wanted to hit you around the head a lot!! Heaven and D are friends and have been for years. Heaven is in love with him and he loves her - though he hasn’t realised it yet. She wants him to take her V card - he won’t. He doesn’t think he is worthy after having a past he is not proud of. What follows is friendly banter, Heaven trying to convince him and him resisting. Then something happens - Heaven doesn’t tell him - if she had then what happened towards the end of the book wouldn’t have happened. D would have known as he was exceptionally stupid to fall for it. I would have loved to have seen the confrontation with Alison on the page. This is the first book in this series that I have read. You don’t have to read the others in the series to enjoy this one but seeing as they are a great group of characters I will go back and read books 1 & 2 when my TBR list is more manageable!!

On the Edge Book 3 Cross Crease was the first book I read from Elizabeth Hartey and let me tell you now I want to go back and read book one and two. The main character Heaven sounded like any other little sister from a famous jock that has a crush on one of her brother jocks friends. But when she grew up strong and independent but begging for her brother’s roommate to take her V-Card that upset me. I don’t know why I just feel like no women should beg a guy to take her to bed. Especially if you’re a smart strong woman that knows what you want. I get it, it was part of the story line and I love they end up together at the end. She melted Wolfe’s heart. The way Wolfe realize he is a better person with Heaven was just the sweetest thing ever. You can see the Wolfe and Heaven had a pull push chemistry with their long-time friendship flirtation. I can really say this was an emotional read that you can’t put down.

Oh this book was so good. It was written well, the heat level was intense but was evened out with a lot of laughter. The writer had me going from hot, to super hot hot, to laughing, then back to hot. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Wolfe and Heaven are such a great couple and they have the instant connection. It’s this magnetic force that pulls them together, but they are trying so hard to resist they push each other away. They are great as friends, even better as a couple, and their pick up lines and quirky banter is comical. Seriously it makes me wonder how much research the writer did to find every corny pick up line that exists, but man it was hilarious. I’m so glad they had their HEA. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to read your book.

I was given a copy of this book to read for my honest review.

This is the first book I have read from this author. Even though it's the third book in the series it can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the other two because you get insight on the other two characters and I'm sure you get a better look into Wolfe. I enjoyed Wolfe and Heaven's story, but there were some things I couldn't wrap my head around. One being how Heaven just kept waiting for Wolfe wanting to be her first and watch him sleep around. The second is the incident after they get together and Wolfe's decision before he got his head on straight. I loved the characters and now I'm going to go and read the other two books. This was a sports romance, best friend's sister and friends to lovers romance all wrapped in one.

Cross Crease had a lot of potential... but it ultimately fell flat for me. I didn’t like the jumping around in timelines; it didn’t flow seamlessly from last to present. I hated that Haven just sat around waiting for D while he slept his way through half the hockey fans in the world. And his complete turnaround when it came to his feelings for her came out of nowhere. I felt like a chapter was missing from his POV there. And even once they got together, there was an incident that I think they both could have handled better.

If you like a lot of sex, once D gives in and takes Haven’s V-card, there is lots of it. Unfortunately for me, I felt there was little else holding these two together.

I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I've been itching for Wolfe book for while now. I knew he was gonna be player I don't know many hockey players who aren't players unless they are married or in a serious relationship. I have admit though I hated watching D whore himself out cause I knew he was better than that. But I also loved how he was completely different with heaven he cared about her and protected her as best as he could. In my eyes he's a great guy with an ugly past but you do what you have to to survive. Now heaven is just so sweet good and pure. And deserves to be treated like she worth everything.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the plot was really solid and the characters interacted very naturally. I haven't read anything from this author before so her writing style was new to me. I will definitely be going through her back log to see other books I want to read. I did find it a little awkward during the turning point in the book because it seemed that D did a 180 with his feelings towards Heaven. To me it wasn't very natural and I think the reason is because we didn't get to see inside D's head all to often so we didn't get to see all the internal dialogue to make that 180. Overall 5 stars.

Honestly, I skipped all the chapters after Chapter 12 to the end. This was a huge disappointment for me. I had been so excited to see this relationship come to life and I didn't get what I wanted. It all just seemed so shallow because all it seemed like these two cared about was banging each other. I got so tired of hearing Heaven moan about her virginity and how she wanted Wolfe to be the one to take it. But her reasoning seemed to be because he was hot and not because of who he was as a person. I think their BFF status was established behind the scenes and didn't translate to the scenes we got.
I wanted something deeper, like the other two books in the series.

I was very lucky to get an ARC from the author. The first 2 books of the series have been on my TBR list but I took some time off sports romance reading and I must say it was a big mistake! In fact I just went and bought the first book in the series.
I loved Cross Crease! It has a refreshing and rather unusual plot for a sport romance. Damon and Heaven are very interesting characters and Elizabeth Hartey manages to really let them come to life. Their dialogues and banter are a delight to read. I can't wait to read the other books and get to know all the other characters!

This really was an enjoyable, one sitting read.  I mean, yes, there are frustrations - that was always going to happen with this plot line, but the delivery was shot through with sufficient humour that it lifted what could otherise have been quite a sad tale - Heaven pining over Wolfe for so long, and his apparent indifference.

For me, the wedding incident  was moved past a little too easily, given its import.  But overall, I'm glad that I chose to read this book.  I'll definitely look for more from this author.

Oh my! This book was so good! I love Damon (D) and Heaven (Pip). She has loved him since she was 14. They are best friends. She begs him to take her virginity but he refuses. He knows that his past makes him the wrong person for her. He fights what he feels for her until he can't fight anymore. But is it too late? Loved this book! I couldn't put it down!

Good hockey romance

Damon and heaven were good together, great friends and you knew they were going to be together. Damon was another hockey jerk and heaven had a crush on him that grew into love. He made her jealous by dating other women but ending up in love with heaven. Then a woman turns up to cause trouble. Good story.

Wolf and Heaven

Love stories about hockey players and their enormous cocks. They are also 6'3" and sinfully handsome, gorgeous. This was a great story of a hockey player and the woman he loves.

Though the theme of this story is a familiar one I still found myself drawn to it courtesy of its sizzling sexual tension and laugh out loud banter and cheesy pick-up lines. Wolfe and Heaven’s journey to HEA is a rocky one too with numerous moments of frustration that had me wanting to smack Wolfe a time or two. On a whole though I found this a charming read that put a smile on my face despite my occasional quibble.

Wolfe was drawn to Heaven the moment they met as youngsters but she was forbidden fruit as his best friend’s little sister meant keeping his hands to himself. Years passed and he still found himself drawn to her and living as just friends but he saw her as too good for him considering his own past. It’s a past that he’s ashamed of as he has more worth than just being a playa. The moment she asked him to take her V-Card though is the moment where everything changed between them in their push-pull journey to HEA...a journey full of unnecessary melodrama. Wolfe’s a frustrating character at times courtesy of a past that has him feeling unworthy of something good but I was still drawn to him for all the care and support he gave to Heaven. Being with Heaven made him a better man though and as their journey continued his self-esteem also grew.

Heaven was a young teen when we first meet her here, a teen with stars in her eyes and an instant desire for the sexy goalie. It’s a desire that never goes away and despite his numerous encounters with other women she never gives up on claiming him. Her plan to get him to take her V-Card is a theme I’ve read before and while it seems silly, it works in this story. Having a connection that started so long ago made her plan a bit more reasonable though as they’ve had a lot of years getting to know each other in a journey that’s rewarding in the end. Heaven’s a good girl, one who believes only she is meant for Wolfe and sets out to prove it to him. She’s a bit naive at times, a bit frustrating for idly sitting by and watching him with other women. I kept waiting for her to get more of a backbone in their connection but it took awhile before I saw her becoming empowered.

On a whole this was an enjoyable story with a couple whose connection sizzled. The nature of their romance being forbidden also added to the sizzle of this story full of erotically-charged encounters. This main couple appeared in the previous installments in this series but it’s here where readers really get to know them, giving insight into Wolfe’s emotional past and making his actions more understandable. While this is a satisfying story for the most part I found it to be a bit of rough around the edges with a narrative that needed to be cleaner, a narrative that needed far less melodrama. Fans of the friends-to-lover theme will find this tale a good one that stands strongly on its own but that will have you wanting to read the previous installments to see where this romance all started.

Cross Crease is another wonderful book in the On the Edge series. Heaven is sweet character who wants nothing more than to cuddle up next to Wolfe. Heaven is Wolfe's best girl friend - not girlfriend - and he doesn't want to ruin their friendship by giving her what she wants. Heaven is better than a one-nighter and he can't commit to anything more than that.

As the story progresses you come to realize that the chemistry between Heaven and Wolfe isn't as on sided as Wolfe would have you believe. I (mostly) love them together. Wolfe does some pretty heart-wrenching things, causing Heaven pain. As far as Heaven goes, I would have a really hard time continually pining for someone who continuously flaunted his sexual conquests in my face. When Wolfe finally opens up about his past though, you see a different side of Wolfe and I empathized with him.

I enjoyed the rocky relationship road Heaven and Wolfe traveled down in Cross Crease. I felt Heaven's anguish and anger yet understood why Wolfe was so hesitant. Both characters grew exponentially in Cross Crease and loved the ending of their story. The world building was done well and I was able to visualize the story. I couldn't put the book down and read it in one day (and I work full time....). I know beyond a shadow of doubt that I will be reading this book again; I loved Cross Crease!

I requested to read and review this book for three reasons.

1. I read and reviewed one book in this series

2. The main male character is a hockey player

3. The blurb

Once again a this book has a very high "heat level" for a contemporary romance novel. Actually I think that is is higher than the second book of the series.

While this is the third book in this series, it is only the second one by Elizabeth Hartey that I read. This time around I knew what to expect as far as the "heat level" was concerned.

I knew what to expect when it came to hockey talk. With Wolfe's past I would have expected him to be a little bit more broody.

The first book in the series, Cross Stroke, is now on my "want to read" shelf.

This book still bothers me thinking about it, I don't try to be to harsh with books. But the sex scene in this book is completely horrible, to read how much pain she was in just did not settle well for me. I do not recommend this book it was poorly written and overall a mess

I found this book extremely hard to read, the storyline to me was poorly executed. It had everything to be a great book, but the characters didn’t do it for me, I expected a better plot twist or any for that matter. All in all it was ok.
