All Charlotte Miles wants to do is graduate high school with her soul intact, flee the town of Blackwater and the horrors of home, and put the year she spent there behind her. Wowza where do we start with Conor Thames? This book was a clusterfuck of goodness that I seriously loved. I feel like I’m going to struggle to explain why, as the plot itself was simplistic but the depth of this story packed a punch. And I was rooting for this underdog the entire time!

Now those of you that only read safe romances this most definitely is not for you. So, to be clear this is an age gap romance which contains cheating. If you haven’t moaned thus far, it’s absolutely worth the read.

Charlotte Miles is fairly new to Blacktown. In her last year of high school she’s barely surviving. Her home life is disastrous and trying to remain popular is key to minimising her anguish and suffering.

Conor Thames, criminal, thug, ex-con, he’s got it all going on. But let’s not forget his short fuse temper that could easily land him back in prison.

Two people not supposed to meet for numerous reasons. Most specifically because Charlotte is already dating a member of Conor’s family. But they do and it's done.

Girls fell to their feet for this guy. He wasn’t all that beautiful to look at, but you were drawn to him, nonetheless. He possessed a rugged charm, and goddamn if I didn’t feel it.

Can two people fall in love instantly? Can lives become so quickly entwined within 24 hours that it would compromise everything they have known thus far? In their case it did. It was breathtaking watching it unfold and so very perfect for two broken people.

"Because I’m not a good man, dove. Because I hurt people and don’t feel sorry. Because my heart’s black and I destroy everything I touch. If you don’t feel frightened, there’s something wrong with you."

Charlotte did not heed the warning. Conor Thames may not be a good man but he was a god send to her and was an amazing character who I adored. Gruff, sexy, vulnerable and a hero to those he loved. The love of these two was inspiring yet heartbreaking and so breathtakingly raw. This book and love affair would be deemed wrong by many but it affected me deeply, that I simply couldn’t put it down. There will be a second book which will complete their story as it ends on a major cliffhanger. Loved it!

"She was passionate about the rain and I was passionate about the way she loved it. It was that way with everything. It is safe to say that if I didn’t have her, there would be no fire in me at all."

Thank you Isabella R. for recommending me this series. I didn't know after BORDEN duet I was ready for more of this authors books. I was picky, and I'm glad to take a chance on this.

Eighteen-year-old Charlotte Miles, grew up in a household of neglectful mother, an abusive step father and a creepy step-brother. She fell for the bad boy the moment he set his on her. Her temptation ruined her year long relationship with Reid, the school's most popular 'good' boy and also the cousin of her temptation.
Twenty-six-year-old Connor Thames, the towns most impulsive, vicious and devinated thug comes and goes out of prison like a "revolving door". His reputation is dangerous, his size simply scampers the rodents of his gaze. There was something about Charlotte that drew him in; I believe she calms him.

"What if you realize I’m not what you want?” I asked, breathless and yearning.
“You already took a big piece of me last night, dove.”
Shaking, I breathed, “What if I realize you’re not what I want?”
Now his eyes hardened. “Then I’ll let you go, but not in one piece.”
“Why?”
“Because you’ll be so in love with me by then, you’ll have given me your heart. And you’ll find your way back to me, anyway, because you can’t live without your heart.”

I was dumbly amazed how easily Charlotte dumped Reid (a year relationship) and slept for a person who had bad reputation. I thought this book was cringy-I-love-yous-with-no-plot romance but overlooking this I moved on. Charlotte's cheating had consequences. With Connor around she is safe but when he is in jail again her sufferings become two-fold. Reid the popular boy and his 'followers' bully her to the ground. Reid plays the victims card and earns sympathies. Charlotte believes she deserves his resentment and the bullying she faces plus being outcast in the school crushes her but she stays strong.
Connor is a very violent man, he acts first and thinks later. His love for Charlotte has no bounds. His triggers of anger and actions takes a drastic change this time. This book entails their relationship. I'm looking forward to the creepy step-brother, Reid and the uncle's interactions.

Triggers: cheating, assault, abuse.

"You can't live without your heart."
I really appreciated that the author didn't write a formulaic, made-to-order story here. These types of books are HARD to pull off, and I'm happy to report the author succeeded with Conor Thames.

Charlotte is a high school senior who does everything to avoid going home at night, which routinely involves staying with her boyfriend, Reid.

The night Reid's older cousin, Conor is released from jail completely changes all three of their lives. Conor sees Charlotte and immediately wants her . . . Charlotte is unnerved and way out of her depth.
He wasn't all that beautiful to look at, but you were drawn to him, nonetheless.
So I cringe-slogged© (lol) my way through the first 25%. One of my only requirements of authors is that they stage their stories on a somewhat even playing field, and that was not the case in the beginning between Charlotte and Conor.

She's a girl whose life is characterized by abuse and instability. And he's a man . . .
...that fucking confidence he possessed was so damn alluring.
. . . who took advantage of that.
I wasn't emotionally advanced enough for this.
But while I wasn't thrilled with events, Charlotte made a conscious decision and I respected her for that.

In fact, that was this book's strength; the flawed characters and their flawed decisions and the consequences they had to live with. I loved that there was no shying away from the aftermath.

Conor's character arc was especially well-done. The author did a good job of taking him from out-of-control to becoming more self-aware of how his anger affected not only himself but those around him.
It seemed cruel to think you could be trapped inside your body, wanting nothing more than to expel the tremors in the form of violence.
And I loved how he embraced the emotions being around Charlotte evoked. He manned-up and his devotion to her was wonderful.
"You don't ever need to be afraid when I'm around."
Unfortunately, a few things in the plot didn't quite add up for me, and I didn't like the lack of a concrete setting or how the author chose to dip her toes in the drama pool near the end.

However, I had to round up. Once I got past the initial set up of their relationship, I couldn't help but root for Conor and Charlotte to pull together. <3

If unconventional characters are your thing, this is for you!

Triggers: cheating and
Warning: this book ends on a cliffhanger

Conor Thames is the latest release of R.J. Lewis and it was an ok read for me. When I first realized that this author was releasing a new book I was really excited but unfortunately it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. In my opinion the story was a mess and it was boring. I could not figure out the purpose of their story nor did I feel a connection to the characters. There was also a lot of editing issues which I would normally overlooked if I was enjoying the story but I couldn't help but dwell over this time. Now although I had lots of issues with this book, I really like this author and without a doubt I plan to read book 2.

This is a very bold book by one of my favourite authors. She could have chickened out in the beginning but she went all the way in without stopping.
What I like and didn't like:

LIKE:
If you are starting the book, you read a quote about temptation and as you begin reading, you know where it's going. It is not a spoiler to say our heroine cheated (and I cannot say I had any sympathy for Reid her ex because we later find out he was not faithful to her and he later treats her horrendously and ruins her). She is a teenage girl who fell into temptation, and that plays into the second part of the story -- CONSEQUENCES. We find out the repercussions of being with Conor. Reid, who is a popular boy in school, destroys her entire reputation and bullies her severely for it. Everyone hates her. This played out in the perfect high school scenario. This was brilliantly woven in. The double standards of our day and age to bully a girl and call her a slut, whereas we see this behaviour in men all the time -- in literature ALL THE TIME and they are forgiven time and time again. It is okay when a man lapses in judgment, and if he's a player, then good on him. But let's damn a girl who is young, comes from a horrendous broken home and connects with a man that she ultimately is with the ENTIRE book. This situation was critical. While crushed and crucified for her mistake of which she was going to immediately come clean about the very next day, Charlotte's heart was immediately taken by Conor.

Conor Thames is NOT a good man, but that is the whole point. He is impulsive and reacts out of anger. He can't hold back, and his point of view was my favourite part about this story. When he reacts, he is horribly aware of the damage he leaves behind, and the remorse afterwards is devastating. He falls hard for Charlotte. There were no women in the background, no typical drama thank god. It was a fresh read. Their devotion to each other was there. I did not have to wait most of the book for a couple to BE together. Phew.

The commentary between conor and his uncle was perfect. conor is witty and does not reveal his emotions in the slightest, but reading his thoughts was addictive.

I did not expect that ending. At all.

DISLIKES:

His viciousness toward Reid came personally. There is bad blood there and the one thing I did not like was we didn't get to know the extent of that bad blood. Then again its a second book to a series so maybe itll be explored. I think reid is being set up as an antagonist.

Billy in the bedroom was also a heavy trigger for me. It was very ahrd for me personally to read. I have a sensitive stomach for reading, and while it wasn't detailed in the slightest, it still shook me.

This will go in my top 10 reads of the year for its freshness, its unpredictable turn, and that ending!

Everyone was telling me I needed to read this book. This book is this author's worse book in my opinion. So, this 18 year old girl continues to allow her stepbrother to rape her while she was in a relationship with his half brother , who she leaves for his cousin who goes in and out of jail AND while he's in jail she gets raped and pregnant by stepbrother. No condoms were used in this book at all.
Now, this author has a way of sucking you into this world she creates, but she always manages to f**k it up. This book grossed me out. This the 21st century I kept wondering why not get a GED online and work fulltime and buy a f'ing gun. You just don't have the luxury of going to regular school.

THIS BOOK!!! 😩

CONOR THAMES, what have you done to me!??

I was not expecting to read this book so quickly. Conor and Charlotte had all my attention.

This author is new to me but what I do know is, I’m ready to dive into her other novels while I wait for book two! The torture, man. I was not expecting a cliffhanger.

Do yourself a favor and read it.

Also, Max fucking Locke can get it. 🔥🔥

This was a heavy and intense relationship between our hero, Connor and heroine, Charlotte.

Conor Thames, ‘criminal, thug, womanizer with a hunger for violence’ falls instantly in love with his little dove the moment he sets eyes on her. The feeling is reciprocated. Then boom, Connor is sent to prison.

Now I don’t know about anyone else, but 8 months is a long time to wait for someone who you’ve only known for 6-7 hours max. But, Charlotte waits for him and suffers abuse from seemingly everyone whilst doing so. There’s quite a lot of dark topics in this and I don’t think I was in the mood to read this story and not sure if I'll continue with book two right now.

Mostly I felt like the story never took off and it meandered along without any real point after Conor was released from prison.

I also felt as if I have missed previous books with the other Blackwater boys... I mean don’t get me wrong they’re all VERY hot, dark and exciting, but who are they?!

This is a head scratcher of a read for me. I’ll try to explain why with bullet points.

1. Suspect grammar, word choices and editing issues.

2. A story that sort of meandered about without really going anywhere once the H & h got together.

3. No real sense of place. Presumably set in the USA but not really sure.

4. Heroine who reads as being older than eighteen/nineteen.

5. Underdeveloped characters/plot points and some suspect plot devices.

6. Large time jumps.

7. Unsexy sexy times.

As several of these issues have caused me to DNF books in the past I was left wondering why I kept going. I can tell you in two words. No, not Conor Thames... Max Locke, yes peeps Max Locke is why I kept reading even though he only appears very briefly. And he is why I will read book two when it comes out if I remember to.

My first book by this author kept me entertained enough and my bff buddy reader happy.

I honestly loved this... like, way more than I thought I would. It just felt so... original. It deviated from all the major tropes ive read in the past. When was the last time you read a book about a couple that has to battle through the ever pressing long term separation threat due to the fact that the hero finds himself in jail?!?! Idk, I thought it showed a true test of love and loyalty that a lot of other books lack. I was glued to my chair all day.

I've stayed away from manwhore hero's on purpose because they've become immature pretentious babies in recent romance releases. But not this hero, no sir. While he was a manwhore, I found him to be one of the better hero's ive read this year. He love and devotion he showed the heroine right from the get-go pulled me in so quick. You could feel the chemistry coming off the page.

The heroine was amazing too. I really liked her and felt she was a strong woman to be with a hot head hero like the H. RJ Lewis' books aren't always for me, but when they're safe they usually climb up to my favorite shelf.

This book isnt going to be for everyone and I totally understand why some people hated it, but for me this pushed all of the right buttons. Cant wait to see where she takes some of the side characters like Jem and Locke!

Safety: not safe/safe with exceptions
-Heroine cheats on her boyfriend with the Hero the first time theyre together. After that its no one else for the both of them. Some OM drama from the h's ex due to the fact he was cheated on. But he was also cheating on the heroine and was a scumbag so I didnt mind it at all.
-Slight OW drama; hero was a manwhore and its mentioned a ton. A past hookup is the heroines English teacher
-Possessive obsessed hero.
-When heroine meets the hero he has a woman on his lap.
-some violence
-Heroine is molested by her step brother

2.5 stars, I was excited to read this book after all the reviews I have read on it, but I’m sorry to say it disappointed me. It started off well but slowly went down hill. There were to many things in this story that were unrealistic and also lots of errors and inconsistencies.
I’m hoping the second half of this duet is better.

Finished the book, unfortunately

First of all the timeline in the story was off, the couple in the story met in halloween, the next day the main character goes away for 8 months. When he returns, the female character is still in school and still has school for a few more weeks, which would put the school year ending in July. That was the first issue I had with the story. It's the little things that can add up to snowball and ruin a book. The characters never really developed and most of the story was surface with an attempt at creating a deeper plot. Never happened.

Omg! Cliffhanger? Seriously?! Why was it not mentioned in plot, that this book is part of series :(
With authors track record of going off grid for months (years?).. i would have waited for part 2 before reading this one ..

Talking of plot, it was a bit weak for me.. not much happening.
