Love the details and direction this is going

First let me say that I rate books base on how much I enjoyed it and wether I would read it again. 3 stars I liked but wouldn’t read it again. 4 stars I might read it again and 5 stars I will read it more than twice at least.

I have read quite a lot of litrpg and gamelit books in the last few years. And there have been a few books I would read more than once. This book is one I have read 2 twice since it has come out earlier this month.

I liked how there was development to the characters and the author didn’t just make the mc op. You get the sense that the character is working for his abilities and not just granted them. There’s been growth as a character and I am very interested to see where this series goes.
On a side note one thing we have struggled with in this genre is editing. There are plenty of books that have great story ideas but lose you in the horrible punctuation and copy editing. This is not one of those. I have not noticed any glaring mistakes and have felt the story has come together well.

Character interactions: the twist is, they're all aliens

Seriously, the emotions, jokes, facial expressions, etc. seem completely mixed up. For example, why is everyone making such a big deal out of "dying," when literally 30 minutes later the same character comes running back to battle? Why bother to set up a hospital, and suffer for hours on end, when a quick clean "kill" resets you with full health and no pain?

There are ways to make the experiences in a VR world where you're immortal matter, e.g. have the enemies capture and torture the players. But getting choked up at temporary "deaths," and treating them the same way you would a real-life permanent death, makes the main characters seem emotionally immature/unstable.

There are many other interactions that just as weird and disjointed. I put up with it for a while because I mostly enjoyed the leveling up and battle scenes. But at some point the incomprehensible characterization made it hard to stay invested.

10/13/19 Mini-Review:

4.5 Stars for Narration by Macloed Andrews
2.5 Stars for Writing (Rough, Rambling Clumps)
4 Stars for Overall Plot Progression

I was leaning towards 3 stars for the book but the events towards the end saved it from okay to pretty good. The POV is all over the place and I'd like the story to be either in first person or limited third, etc. I still really like the main group of characters and invested enough in what "may" happen to keep going with the series.

Too much in-depth training in the story. By training, I mean gym workouts - diet plans - etc. Opponents were setup then not delivered on. Maybe the plan was to have them be something in a future book. But the end of this one introduces more dangerous enemies. More immediate enemies.

I enjoyed the last bit of the book with the actual Siege. But there was not enough of the Siege or Siege-prep for it to warrant the title in my opinion.

Meh

If you want to read about people who live to lift weights then this book is for you. While I liked the first book, this one spent too much time inside the MC's head and lifting weights. It just wasn't a fun read.

Meh

I don’t think I’ll read the next one. The first was good this went downhill for me. It read like a workout book. The MC has this amazing ability but is still always behind everyone else.

Don’t waste your time

Start reading this book now. I have read a lot of litrpg and this book is one of the best written, investigated and well put together. Kudos to the author.

This book picks up where the other one left off and continues to stand out in the genre with its unique feel compared to standard fantasy games used in most of the others. I've heard a lot of people saying that book two isn't as action-packed as the first book, but I for one don't really see it.

While a significant amount of the book follows the main character through a training arc, the training was hands on so I thought there was still plenty of action. It almost seems that the scale of the book is growing extremely fast with the scale of the battles compared to the more skirmish styles that are usually found in the first few books of a Litrpg series.

I'll be curious to see how grand of a scale things eventually escalate to considering this is only book two. If you liked the first book, then checking this one out is a no-brainer.

I liked this one. In fact, I liked it better than book 1 of the series but it has the same flaws. It's all about a fighter-monk's character build and the story really calls for far better military fiction. Like volume 1, it's pulled down by the subplot but it manages to be fun and readable.

Codename: Interested

The follow up to Codename: Freedom Week One hits the ground running. It builds off the enjoyment of the previous book, with a character still dedicated to building himself up, and focuses hard on the realities of that training.

The emphasis on hard work beating all is a great message, and persists through the story to great narrative finish. The LitRPG elements are just enough to be interesting, but not excessive - and the story grows organically from where it left off in book one.

I look forward to book 3, and hope other people give this a chance.

As good as the first but a slower middle section

The book was very well researched and written. I barreled through the last 1\3 to the it finish. That said, a large section of the book is more monotonous weight and speed training that while may be more interesting to some definitely slower the pace down and took a bit more effort to get through. I will say that even that aspect which sounds dull was still interesting i just hope it's not a significant section of future books in the series.

Outstanding

This series is one of the most mature (in terms of growth) I have read in this genre. The fact that we actually get to see (read) the drives/motivations of the MC and then his actual hard work for growth is really refreshing. Even better is the training rings plausible with the explanations/situation given. I normally feel like I’m just “along for the ride” with books I read but this one I actually root for the MC! Outstanding series!

Expansion and Growth

This book builds on everything book 1 introduces us to, then expands on that while growing the characters. Everything is done well, and there’s no lack of action, introspection, and drama. The pacing is quite good most of the time, and the editing is really well done.

We also get new mystery, new revelations, new locations, and a whole new threat. Will our hero grow strong enough and do it fast enough to not just survive, but surpass? Only time (and book 3) can tell. Fun stuff. Recommended.

Really, this book could be called "Training, All the Training with a Battle at the End". Do not let the title fool you, there is no real siege. It's a battle. A pretty awesome battle that brings a 3 star book up to 4. Most of the book follows our main man training. And doing some more training. And thinking of training. Luckily the book is pretty funny and there are some interesting bits to keep you entertained, but I really hope our MC starts to spend more time playing the game and less time training....to play the game. Still, fun and funny book!

A good read

There are so many great stories and vr systems painted in the litrpg community yet Thorne made something unique his very own total home gym. The story was good and there were a few amusing typos. Give it a chance if you haven't yet. The idea that you can actually get physical training from a video game is interesting

Damn when will 3 be out

Wow I can't wait till book 3 or 4 or 5 etc. This is a series that has to be in the top 10 in must read Litrpg's. Mr Thorne thank you again for writing this series. Now stop procrastinating and get book 3 finished! I am joking of course. But seriously a fan is waiting not so patiently ;-)

Making training fun

Over half the book Lucias is training and I enjoyed it all. Top of the line training Sensei, body building, combat. And then off to take the fight back to the goblins. A few surprises along the way. It's all good. It's all fun. Many goblins were hurt.

Great work

Amazing book, I truly enjoyed the first instalment of this series but this book truly blows the first one out of the water. Some really interesting things are introduced in the book that gives the future of this story a whole new wealth of potential. I cannot wait for the next book!

Great Book.

This was a fun read that left me wanting more. I suspected what was coming at the climax but it was even better when I got there.

There was no swearing or or nudity. It's quite violent bit still in the PG-13 range.

A great book.

In one sitting

Great book. I enjoyed it so much that I finished it in one sitting. Can’t give this author enough praise. Some times the story just clicks. This was definitely one of those books!

A great sequel

A wonder continuation of a captivating story. The other all story was well paced and the attack on the city well well written. Not a constant stream of combat but not boring. Loved it

Fantastic sequel!

Great follow up to the first in the series. Character development, plot, world building and lots of Kline-ity. The only bad thing is that the next book isn't written yet!

Awesome book

I absolutely enjoyed this book as it had a great combination of virtual reality and real-life affects. Loved the sci-fi future and ancient world combat merge that feels so realistic without over doing things.

Excellent story

This was a great story that built upon the first one. I loved the way the author shows the hard work the MC went through to grow his strength, it's pretty obvious that he will need everything he has in the next book.

Better then the first one!

This story is just incredibly well written and executed. The comedy is a bit ham fisted but the characters, story plots and build up in general are amazing.
