When Special Air Service Captain Ross Sinclair is taken prisoner by Lord Edgar Sweetwater, it's up to airline pilot Samantha Starr to rescue him. But the price of Ross’s freedom is the Blue Dragon Diamond, lost in Africa thousands of years ago.
Aided by an Atlantis artifact, Samantha and her makeshift team race the clock to locate the enormous diamond and trade it for the man who owns Sam’s heart.
But the diamond Sam seeks is no ordinary gem, it's not even an extraordinary gem...it’s proof of a power beyond anything the modern world can imagine.
S.L. Menear (Sharon Littlefield Menear) is a retired airline pilot. US Airways hired Sharon in 1980 as their first female pilot, bypassing the flight engineer position. The men in her new-hire class gave her the nickname Bombshell. She flew Boeing 727s and 737s, DC-9s, and BAC 1-11 jet airliners and was promoted to captain in her seventh year. Before her pilot career, Sharon worked as a water-sports model and then traveled the world as a flight attendant with Pan American World Airways. Sharon also enjoyed flying antique airplanes, experimental aircraft, and Third World fighter airplanes. Her leisure activities included scuba diving, powered paragliding, snow skiing, surfing, horseback riding, aerobatic flying, sailing, and driving sports cars and motorcycles. Sharon has flown many of the airplanes in her fantasy thriller novels, Flight to Redemption, first place winner of the Royal Palm Literary Award, Flight to Destiny, Triple Threat, Stranded, and Vanished, Books One - Five in the Samantha Starr Series featuring a woman airline pilot. Sharon and her mother, D.M. (Dorothy) Littlefield, co-wrote Journey into the Land of the Wingless Giants, a middle-grade children’s adventure novel, and Enchanted, a novella for young children. They also wrote a short-stories anthology book, Life, Love, & Laughter: 50 Short Stories by S.L. Menear and D.M. Littlefield. Their newest book, Sniffers Agency – The Nose Knows, is a unique adult cozy mystery featuring a female private investigator who uses highly-trained dogs to solve cases.
Samantha is so badass and I just all the mischief she gets up to along her death defying adventures. She is such a strong female character who doesn't NEED a man but I'm pretty sure she enjoys Ross' company and Lance and Banger are crack up characters as well. Highly recommend this series to everyone
I liked the first couple of books in the series. Very action/adventure, thrill ride kind of fun books. I am a fan of theories and speculations on the lost city of Atlantis. Somehow when these two got meshed together in this series it just didn’t work for me. I really wanted to like the overall story it just didn’t mesh in my opinion. I like the strong female action lead. I like that she doesn’t drop her career and interests just because she meets a man and falls in love. I think the all the aspects of flying are done exceptionally well. The settings are all over the world and jump off the page with how real they seem. I just kind wish the author stayed more in the thriller lane and left the somewhat hard to accept supernatural aspects out of the series. That’s my reaction your mileage may vary. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
This book is suuuch a fun read; it was my first by Menear but certainly won’t be my last. It reads like an action-packed military read at times, but there’s a thriller / espionage aspect and still there manages to be romance, mythology, history … I would say ‘alternate history’, but the author mostly packs in real facts so that wouldn’t be exactly accurate.
It makes for a wild ride that I never wanted to get off.
Character development is advanced and there are fun little twists packed into the story in multiple places. I strongly recommend this read.
Really smooth read and goes pretty quickly because it’s predominantly dialogue.
I received a review copy from eBook Discovery and this is my honest opinion. Man, would I ever like this book to be made into a movie! It would be right up there with Indiana Jones and even better than Laura Croft! This has it all: excitement, adventure, a combination of sci-fi and fantasy, Black Ops, sarcastic humor, wonderful characters, and a touch of romance. Having read only the first and now last books in the series, you can be sure I will be going back and reading the three I've missed out on. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes adventure stories with a touch of the bizarre.
"Live by the lion, die by the lion" Sir Edgar Sweetwater's epitaph at last. Another amazing African adventure this time as Sam rushes to rescue her SAS boyfriend Ross. Thrills and spills abound although the baddies are somewhat out gunned by Queen Samantha of Atlanta. Read all of the Sam Starr books, they're all worth it :)!

Samantha Starr is a strong-headed, determined pilot, and a captivating woman. Stunning and intelligent as well. Her special powers, which allow her to have visions, are filled with danger. Her partners refer to her as 'the danger magnet.' Only the best come to her rescue. Sam's boyfriend, Captain Ross Sinclair, British MI5, Special Operations, is one of them. He is also Laird of his own castle located in Scotland.
This is book 5 in the Samantha Starr Thriller series. I have read all of them. I recommend them all. Entertaining and intensely suspenseful. The author's superb writing brings an action-packed plot with a cast of complex characters that have layers of intriguing and unique traits, skills, and emotions that make them come alive on the page.
