Karen Lynch is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
She grew up in Newfoundland, Canada - a place rich in colorful people and folklore to which she attributes her love of the supernatural and her vivid imagination. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina years ago and was immediately charmed by the southern people but she says she will always be a newfie.
Though she loves supernatural fiction, she has a soft spot for Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austin. She is a fan of classic rock, country and classical music but her favorite music is the sound of a good thunderstorm or a howling blizzard. Two of her favorite past times are baking artisan breads for her friends and spending quality time with her two German Shepherds.
I enjoyed Jordan's story. Hamid is a completely new character. I enjoyed their bickering, how they tried to avoid the bond but later fall for each other. Unlike other characters, Jordan is straight forward. The bonus scene was so cute. Nicholas and Sara had twins.
I didn't like the cover of the book. It didn't match with the other covers of the series and it annoys me when the covers aren't related in a series. It made me wonder, maybe they didn't put much effort or didn't try to find an Egyptian male for the cover.
I don't know if there will be more books from this series in the future. Few characters just left behind, such as Mason. He played such an important character in the previous book, I wanted a closure ending for him. Other than, I immensely enjoyed this book.
Thank you to my dear friend, Karen Lynch, for the early read of one of my favorite characters. A couple years ago it sounded like Karen wasn't sure if Jordan would get her own book. I am so HAPPY she did!
I don't even know where to begin I love it so much! Jordan is as badass and snarky as ever ... with whole new dimensions to her early life and present one. She had a vulnerability that drew me to her even more. And her love story was so perfect for her! Nikolas has always been my #1, but I have to say I was gripping my Kindle over this new sexy warrior.
Fans of the Relentless series are going to fall into mad love for this book!
I liked this one more than the previous book. Jordan is such a lovable badass heroine. I liked the banter between her and Hamid. They are a great couple. Cover for audiobooks are the bomb I wish that the whole series has that books for paperbacks!! 3,5 stars
I don't know if I can even do this book justice with this review! This whole series has been my most favourite reads over the last few year. From when I first picked up book number one, Relentless, five years back I have been consumed by this world and have re-read them countless times. From Sara and Nikolas to Roland and then Chris finding their mates and finally Jordan, I've loved, lived and breathed every minute of it. Jordan's story is fantastic. It's everything you'd expect from Jordan and more. Being in her mind just gives you a brilliant perspective of everything going on around her, she was always a character that made me laugh but Hellion and her story made me love her. Now, I won't be mentioning just who Jordan's potential mate is because that would be a major spoiler, but I will say that he really gave Nikolas a very close run in the yum yum, awesomeness stakes (it was a very close run but no one can beat my Nikolas). He is a great character and is perfect for Jordan in every way. I love how their relationship plays out and develops and is very closely tied into the story. I don't think I can gush enough about how much I enjoyed Hellion. It was fantastic in every way and I can't find fault with anything in the storyline. There is also an added bonus chapter at the end which I feel I really need to thank the author for as it was perfect. There was definitely an end to what has been a brilliant series and collection of books from this author, but even if they no longer write more in this world, I will still be able to delve right into it whenever I feel like it and revisit all the characters as I don't think I could ever get bored of reading them. Hellion is brilliant, it's a must read, five star book that you'd be a fool to miss out on.
Wow, what a lord of horseshit this book turned out to be. I had very low expectations when I started this book but I didn't expect to hate this book as much as I do. Once again, I predicted the romance in this book. You know a book is predictable if I can predict the love interest. I honestly don't know where to start with my review. I think this is the worst book of 2019. I cant even imagine any other book topping my hatred of this book. Thank god this is the last book in the series. I can't take anymore of this shit. It's sad because I honestly think this book has ruined my love of the original triology. Yes I still love Sara and Nickolas but I'm now questioning if their relationship was toxic in the beginning.
Let's start with the few positives things that I liked about this book. Firstly, the plot was really engaging and I had a lot of fun. Secondly, the book was so fast paced and easy to read. The ending of this book was so engaging and I was on the end of my seat. But thats really all I liked about this book. I did love the bonus scene. Honestly thats the only reason this book even got one star from me. It was so beautiful to see Nickolas and Sara with their kids. I was so moved and almost cried.
Okay onto, all of my problems with this book: Firstly, the romance, this was honestly one of the most controlling and toxic relationships I think i've ever read. There were so many times that Hamid was patronising and controlling of Jordan. HE LITERALLY MADE HER WEAR A TRACKER AND PUT ON HER MOTORBIKE?!? LIKE EXCUSE ME?!?!?! I was screaming at that part. Hamid kept bossing Jordan around and telling her what she could do and where she could do. It made me so angry. There was so many quotes where Jordan felt like she didn't have a choice.
There were two massive plot points where I felt like the author made it so obvious she was trying to force Jordan and Hamid together and it made me so angry. Like I really believe they shouldn't have ended up together. He was a dick to Jordan the entire book! The first time was when the spell that opened the barrier was linked to their bond. So like if they broke up the barrier might open up again. I screamed at this point. It made me so angry. The second time was when a warlock did another spell on Jordan and Hamid to try and replicate the spell on them and ended up creating another spell on them. So, they couldn't go a few feet away from each other. UGHHHHH I HATED BOTH OF THIS PLOTS SO MUCH. Like really? Karen Lynch tried so hard to force them together and it was so cringey to watch.
Another problem I had with the romance was Hamid literally cheated on Jordan but she forgave him. It made me so angry. I had to stop reading and pause for a minute to actually process what was happening. Honestly, the explantation he gave Jordan was complete and utter bullshit. After that, Jordan left the command centre because she was so upset. But the asshole literally said to Jordan "AFTER THE STUNT YOU PULLED?". Like excuse me? I was dying at that part. He also got the trackers to send updates of where Jordan was to his phone like? Why am I the only person to think thats stalker behaviour? I also hated how Jordan apologised after this fight too like Hamid should have apologised but of course not because he can't see what a dickhead he is.
My main issue with the romance though was that Jordan has no choice whatsoever in their relationship. Jordan never had the chance to say no. She literally said in chapter 13 and this is a direct quote "My wants did not matter". Like she should have a choice and the freedom to do what she wants and I feel like Jordan's freedom was taken from her by Hamid. Like Hamid threatened Jordan that if she didn't do whats she said she'd have to have security with her at all times.
Overall, I really hated almost very moment of this book so yeah. What a waste of time this book was.
I always knew Jordan would become a legendary warrior. She is a badass that truly lives up to her nickname. Thank you, Karen, for delivering another great addition to the series.
It absolutely pains me to give this book anything lower than a 5 star rating but I couldn't overlook how underwhelming this story really was for me. I was so excited when Karen Lynch announced she was writing a book for Jordan. It was all I could think of once she started doing spin offs of the original trilogy. And once I was pleasantly surprised by both Roland and Chris's stories, I knew Hellion had to be a goldmine in comparison....I was mistaken...clearly.
(Hellion truly deserves a 2 star rating if I'm being completely honest, but I added the last one because of the bonus chapter with Nicolas and Sara. But let me explain in 5 points why this book disappointed me first)
#1 Jordan's story was boring: (to be frank)
There you see that doesn't even make any sense. The words Jordan and boring should not even exist in the same sentence. why was it boring? because most of the book was focused on the unconvincing love between Jordan and Hamid. The plot is literally driven by this spell that is created to strategically bind Jordan and Hamid together physically along with their Moris binding mentally as well. This is used as a plot point to push their relationship together and them to build a relationship. But I felt this idea was weak and kind of a cop out. So your saying Jordan and Hamid couldn't fall in love without the influence of magic? The pieces fit too perfectly together and caused the story to be predictable and pretty unbelievable. There were too many "coincidences" Plus you spend more time reading about Jordan trying to resist the bond than anything else. And while that was somewhat entertaining at first, it began to drag on. Jordan is supposed to be independent, free spirited, and unpredictable, so the fact that I could figure out what was coming next so easily was disappointing.
#2 Jordan out of character:
While at the start of the story Jordan was very Jordan like, with her high spirited attitude and reckless behavior, it soon mellowed out very quickly. Once Hamid (the love interest) walked in she became this docile, compliant female, who did what she was told like a good little warrior. She wasn't any more firey than Sara was in "Rogue". In fact I think Sara was more rebellious in the first chapter of that book than Jordan was in her entire novel. There was just no bad-assery in this. I typically like logical, mild mannered and mature main characters, but in Jordan's case I expected the opposite. I was thinking she was going to have more of an attitude being told what to do by Hamid, but she rarely talked back and complied readily.
#3. Hamid = Nicolas 2.o?
To be blunt Hamid has little to no personality. He was cold one minute then suddenly understanding and sweet the next. He had no defining characteristic except he was hot, strong, and Egyptian. I think it would have been cool to see a male Mohiri with more faults. I thought that was where his character was headed when he originally stated that he didn't want the bond any more than Jordan did. it would have been fun to see them both fight the bond and then eventually fall in love despite their original hesitations. Instead we got the typical troupe that the other books had ( the male realizing his feelings first and then trying to convince the female to see things his way.) It just wasn't original and his actions paralleled with Nicolas constantly. (just without the charm) Basically I'd have liked a more "enemies to lovers" kind of situation instead of "boy chases girl" kind of theme. And while boy chases girl worked for the previous books it just didn't work for jordan and Hamid's story.
4# Lust takes up too much time
there is more in the book about Jordan lusting after Hamid and then trying not to lust after Hamid and then lusting after him again than anything else and that's just sad.
5# Lots of telling not a lot of showing.
Now I want to say this is my biggest pet peeve. I'm not sure if I just over looked it in the previous novels from this author, but Jordan tells instead of shows a lot in the book. for example, jordan tells you she spares with hamid , that they had a long conversation about many things (like his younger years as a warrior) but we the readers don't get to be present at any of these sparing matches or apart of the conversation of any of these talks. we are just supposed to take Jordans word for it. So its kinda like Jordan's heart changed towards Hamid but the reader was left behind still trying to figure out what she sees in him. I want to here the actual conversation taking place not just be told it happened. because of that I wasn't able to connect with Hamid or his relationship with Jordan. It was almost random when she finally admitted she loved him. I kept think "um why is that again?" With Nickolas and Sara you got to be there when he made her dinner the first time in "Relentless". You aslo got to be present during their training sessions, I got to see the heart of Nickolas along with Sara, as if I was her experiencing it. But thats not what happened here. I felt Isolated as the reader and I think that in itself was what really annoyed me about Jordans story. I couldn't connect.
So that's it my 5 major reasons for why this book was kinda a flop for me. Sad, but true all the same. I will say I enjoyed the action bits of the book that didn't center around Jordan and Hamid's love life. And Jordan's big action scene at the end was pretty epic, so that was something. So I haven't given up on Karen lynch as an author. (she was bound to have at least one book I didn't like out of the 7.) I'm just sorry my favorite character's book was the one I enjoyed the least. I'm not sure if she is done with the series now that Jordan's story is over, (maybe Tristan will get a book?) but I'm still planning to read the next one if she does. I just wont have as high of expectations as I did before.

Finally, I was able to read this book! Hellion by Karen Lynch is the sixth book of the Relentless series. Our hero is Jordan, who is one of the best young warriors. When strange and unusual encounters with demons occur, the world of the Mohiri is turned upside down. Jordan would do anything to save the world and her family. But Hamid, a strong warrior, has the command now and does not like young warriors to be involved. Especially not Jordan, as their demons call for each other.
I waited so long for this book and then I had no time to read it. But now, I finally finished it! And I can say, Karen Lynch has written another masterpiece. I was curious about Jordan's story as we know her from all the previous books. She was always a character I liked a lot. Jordan is badass, fearless and a mischievous young woman. Her nickname Hellion suits her a lot! I like her style of fighting, her kind heart and she is so funny. When Hamid was introduced, I immediately knew that he was her mate. First, I was somehow disappointed. He was so cold and a bit mean and I did not like his name. Hamid is a strong warrior at a top position, but the way he is protective is not my cup of tea. He is the perfect mate for Jordan and I enjoyed reading about them, but he is not my favourite male hero in the books. I liked him more towards the end of the book as he started to accept Jordan and the way she wants to do her job.
I am sure I said that before, but I do love these books so much as they let us as readers discover something new every time. I read so many books about vampires and werewolves and other supernatural creatures, but the Relentless series adds something new to these dimensions. All the creatures are different to the ones I already know. I love when new things are added to already known ones. Karen Lynch did a really good job here. And the way she describes the whole world is wonderful. I can imagine all the little details. Very well done!
One thing to add... It was nice to meet most of the characters from the previous books. I missed them. And the bonus chapter about Nikolas and Sara was amazing. It was nice to read something from their point of view again. Loved it!
I hope there will be another book. I love this world and I love Karen Lynch's way of writing. This series is one of my favourites and I can't wait to learn more about it!
Second read: This book just turned into my favourite book to read when I want a quick and good read. Still love it. The book made me feel more energized and positive!
Third read: Still love the book. I miss the characters a lot.
4.5, so I’ll round up. While Haven and Fated weren’t as exciting as the previous two, Jordan’s book had the same action, drama, and suspense that we have come to know and love from Karen Lynch.
Plot: Jordan, who always refused to be tied down, accidentally becomes mated to someone she can’t stand. To make matters worse, the two are forced to work side by side to prevent a demon invasion from destroying the world.
Characters: One of the things that I always loved about Sara was that she was a strong, kind, and caring heroine, but she didn’t have to resort to snarkiness or sarcasm. Jordan, on the other hand, uses sarcasm (and often sex) as a way of communicating. It can be kind of abrasive at times, but Hellion showed us a deeper, much more vulnerable side to Jordan that kept her from being too over the top. I had totally forgotten about Jordan’s new mate, so it was great to see how they interacted with each other. A few reviewers were bothered by the fact that he was controlling and critical, and yes, I would have problems with that in real life. But this is a completely different world (a fictional one to be fair), and he is technically charged with ensuring the safety of all warriors, so I think it’s understandable that he goes from critical to bossy to worried. I think, in the end, Jordan became a little more responsible like him, and he became a little more laid back like her.
The supporting characters just made the book even better. Sara and Nikolas are still my absolute favorites, and their part of the book was to die for. Plus, it was nice to see so many people from the previous books. Side note: I would really like to read about Tristan. Hint, hint.
Writing: I really like Lynch’s writing. Her books are also well-edited (very few typos compared to most of the YA fiction these days). I’m an English major, so that is always a joy for me. Readers should note that there is a lot of cursing and a little bit of violence. Jordan’s book is a little more risqué than most of the series, but it is Jordan’s book, so I would expect that. There is one scene that bothered me. You will know it when you read it, so I won’t spoil it. I think Lynch could have come up with something better to and achieved the same result.
The Bottom Line: This is one of my favorite series; in fact, I just recommended it my daughter. If you love Jordan, you’ll probably love this book. Hellion goes back to the things that made the previous books so exciting. And if you love Sara and Nikolas, you will adore the end. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
I am having such trouble, I have finished this book, one I have have waited for forever and now feel like I have nothing to read! I loved going along on Jordan’s journey and now just want MORE! I love Lynch and this series has steadily become a favorite. All I can hope is that she is not done yet!
I have really enjoyed this series up until this exact point. Unfortunately, while the overall story is a good one, the relationship aspect fell far short.
Jordon’s character spent the entire book determined to break her mating bond and disliking the man she was accidentally bonded to. Hamid was cold and never spoke and also acted like he hated the bond. The two were rarely around each other and never showed any feelings other than annoyance or disdain for the other right up until the 75% mark in the book. Then, Voila! I love you!... I love you too!! What?!?!? What magic hat was that pulled from? There was absolutely NO character development or reason AT ALL to believe or even like this couple together.
Jordan was one of my favorite characters from the earlier books due to her spitfire personality. Because of that love and her spunk, I had high standards for her story--and I was more than impressed. Lynch hit all the action and drama and tension you'd expect from the stubborn warrior while also showing us a deeper, heart-tugging, emotional side to the girl. And the sparks and tension between her and a certain severe Egyptian warrior are almost tangibly singeing; their intense, almost comical interactions with their butting stubbornness drew me in. The world painted in this novel is as dark, demon-filled and deadly as in the past Relentless books, with a little more focus on magic. I enjoyed every minute of this book, which is not a short one, thus saying even more about Lynch's enthralling writing. This upper YA book is as bad-A as Jordan... and as Lynch too.
I think this series, was on of the most FULFILLING series I have ever read. Normally after I read a book series, I always feel like this could have gone differently or it would have been better if this happened. Or even that I want to know what happens to this character. But none of them ever happen. I am always left craving for more of those characters.
This series however, has filled me with so much joy and pride inside that I can honestly say, I am sick of this story Karen Lynch. GIVE ME ANOTHER.
In a good way. Totally in a good way.
And the five star..well there really is nothing to say. Just,
What the ... Hellion!!!! This series was a blast! So happy I met Karen thanks to Rare in London and discovered this awesome characters. Loved Jordan and her solmi and all the gang. All the stars ⭐️ of the sky 🧡
Finally!!!!!!!! As a huge fan of the Relentless series I’ve been waiting for Jordan’s story for so long and I’m so happy after finishing it because it was awesome beyond my wildest dreams!!!! One of the things I love about this series is how different the female leads and their stories have been; each story has delivered something new and surprising. This story is told solely from Jordan’s POV and it works perfectly because she’s such a larger than life character and her inner dialogue is both revealing and hilarious. There are so many laugh out loud moments in this story and I also loved learning more about Jordan’s background. The storyline is not what I expected at all and puts a different spin on supernatural beings on earth from other books I’ve read recently. I really enjoyed the whole book and love story is everything I hoped it would be with plenty of chemistry and humour. 5 stars 🌟 And the bonus scene ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
“There was no way I was happy to see him. Not unless hell had frozen over and no one had bothered to tell me.”
I didn’t particularly mind Jordan as a side character but a full book in her point of view wasn’t the greatest for me.
I liked the world is ending storyline and I absolutely loved Hamid. I did like the time we got to spend with the other characters, especially that incredibly beautiful extract at the end that may or may not have made me cry.
I might have enjoyed this better from Hamid's point of view maybe, who knows?! I just couldn’t take to Jordan. Which is fine, can't love them all.
“You take that fear and channel it into your work. It’s the person with the most at stake who will fight the hardest.”
Ahhh!!!!! I loved every minute of it!!!! I preordered and went nuts because I had to work the day of the release and the day after. This is one of my favorite serries and it was torture. But more than an worth the wait when I finally got to read it. It was hard to put down. Jordan was amazin and hilarious as ussual. Amd her mate! Sigh. We got to see a bonus scene from Nicolas and Sarah ❤ and the other loved characters as well. I would like to see another book on Nicholas and Sarah this new stage in their life is going to be fun and entertaining.
THIS BOOK SERVED. After the relentless trilogy, this was the book I enjoyed the most. Jordan was already so likeable and relatable for me. AND THE ACTION SEQUENCES>>>>
completely agree with Jordan, the bigger the sword, the hotter the warrior. Hamid & Jordan made me squeal, laugh, jump & cry. I could feel their chemistry and tension oozing from the book.
THE SPARRING SESSIONS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART
The little snippets of Nikolas & Sara and Chris & Beth were so adorable.
Overall, this is definitely one of those books that I'd come back to read again.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I wasn't as into this book as I was the others in the series. Part of that might be because I never really loved Jordan's character. I just didn't feel connected to this couple. It was still an enjoyable read, and I'm glad I read it, but it didn't compare to the first in this series.
Also, I LOVED the bonus scene of Nikolas and Sara!!
Jordan's story was just as brilliant as Roland's and Chris' stories. I would recommend this book to everyone who has enjoyed the original Relentless trilogy. Honestly, I just couldn't put this book down, it was so addictive. Karen has officially spoiled me for other stories and authors.
Ever since I started reading these series a couple of years ago, I couldn’t help it but fall in love with the way Karen writes and describes each and every moment to us readers. I love the fact that whenever I am reading her books, I am living the moments these characters are going through. Don’t get me wrong, books are supposed to do that to us, but once your tastes have been sharpened, not all of them manage to give me the same feeling. From the book I, Jordan was the character that intrigued me the most. We didn’t know anything about her at first, and yet, she managed to sneak her way into our hearts. I love that I got an insight in her mind, how she works, what is she thinking at all times. Her stubbornness, strength, courage, Karen definitely delivered what we were asking for, and I think even more. My mind is still reeling from everything that happened in the book as I just finished reading it, and as much as I would want to see more of these characters (I could read at least 10 more books about this world), I believe that Karen did a full circle from the beginning till the end. What I love even more is the fact that she still kept it open in a way. There’s a lot of amazing books out there, but at the end of a lot of those series, I have a feeling as if some of it authors are telling us “and they lived happily ever after”. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am very well aware that Karen said this is the last one unless she feels that there is another one of these characters that deserves a story, but I think that this is where it should end. There were times in the book where I thought that the ending will be very bittersweet for me. Also, when writing about mates, I think it is very hard not to turn it too cheesy (at least for me), and she managed to write it in such a way where even I wouldn’t mind having one of these warriors around me. She also didn’t get lost with all of the lore, describing carefully everything, and you can connect the dots even if you are not so much into the supernatural world. I think that these series, this book ruined me for all other, and I can say that it is definitely my favorite and I would recommend it to anyone who is into these kinds of books.
