Officially, I read 60% of the book, where an additional 10% is the index. So, in reality, I don't feel I am truly cheating by reading 2/3 of the book. As an OER resource, this book is better written than other similar textbooks. I enjoyed the evolution and plant taxonomy chapters a lot, whereas earlier chapters seem to be gramatically unclear at times with occasional errors.
Given this is an OER open access resource (and thus had lower expectations), I felt it was well organized, has nice photos and for the most part was easy to read.
First off it was free from my school so that is almost an immediate 5 stars. It was definitely too long for the lack of depth into certain topics and how repetitive it was at times but I suppose every textbook is sort of like that. The topics were 9 out of 10 times understandable, which is a miracle and I only had to look up a couple more concise definitions for a few topics out of all the 47 chapters. The content also wasn't god-awful boring and I had a pretty good time reading it so yay!
