Vicious gangs of reivers roam Scotland during the tumultuous reign of James V, and one of these gangs, led by a man with a red stain on his face, threatens all that Robin holds dear. The man steals Robin's ear and then nearly steals his life, but Robin will not let him take anything else, not his home, not his family, and not the woman he loves. Even when accused of murder and facing the hangman's noose, Robin will remain steadfast above all else.

As long as she lives, Suannoch will carry her half of the shilling she and Robin split when they pledged their devotion to each other. Even after she is forced into an unwanted betrothal, their unwavering love is stronger than anything trying to keep them apart. After Robin's arrest, Suannoch vows to rescue him or bring his body back, because where they have chosen, steadfast will they be.

Steadfast Will I Be is a beautiful love story filled with history and adventure. Full of strong characters and interesting storylines, Steadfast Will I Be will keep you wanting to find out what happens next. The main love story is between Robin and Suann, but you’ll also learn of love between friends, family, and adoptive family. I loved learning the story behind the broken coin shared of Robin and Suann as it strengthened the foundation of their story for me. The written Scottish brogue is done well and helps the reader see the Scottish landscape of the story. Recommended for lovers of history and romance, and those who want to try something new!

Four Stars!
Quick read with a lot of historical happenings! Steadfast Will I Be is a historical fiction set during the reign of James the V but focuses primarily on the everyday happenings that most Scottish residents faced. The character arcs for the hero and heroine are intense and satisfying in their happily ever after. This book will certainly thrill those who love highland historical romances!

This book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

I received my copy via VRO for an honest review. The story was a slow start, but once Robin met Suann, the story moved swiftly and it was hard to put down. The author did a great job with rich character development and I had a vested interest in each. The Scottish dialect took a bit to get used to, but seemed to flow effortlessly as the story unfolded. I highly recommend this book,

Having a Scottish Heritage on my father's side, I was interested in reading this historical fiction book set in early 16th century Scotland. Through these fictional characters I learned about James V (father of Mary Queen of Scots) and his world at that time.. I was very interested in Scottish clothing, diet, and living situations.

Interestingly, the main character is English, and only becomes truly Scottish in his old age. The book uses a considerable amount of Scottish dialogue along with realistic sex, brutality, violence, and death.

I kept a running "Scottish" dictionary to help me understand and visualize events better. If you enjoyed the movie, "Brave Heart", this book would interest you.

I would recommend this book to open minded adults.

Rescued as a battered child by a Scots border lord, Robin grows under the tutelage of his laird, assuming responsibilities as reeve of the estate as an adult. His love for Suannoch is never failing, one he will carry to the grave should it come to that.
And it might very well come to Robin’s death if the law of King James V is followed to the letter. Suannoch will not let her love go quietly, proving her worthy of this brave man’s love and honor.

Our Review: devotees of Scots historicals will take Steadfast Will I Be to their hearts and cherish it. Author Furlong’s knowledge of the culture and mores of the times, as well as an overwhelming wealth of research, brings a realism to this story and we are better for it.

On a scale of 1-5, Steadfast Will I Be deserves a 5.
