A Beautiful Fire

She does NOT need a man to rescue her. He disagrees.

Harper Peters wants three things. An accomplished man, funding for her treatment center, and to catch a glimpse of that hot firefighter on her morning runs. Even a doctor needs her guilty pleasures. When she falls and breaks her knee at the feet of the very fireman she’s been ogling, she has no choice but to accept his help. The only problem is, she doesn’t want help. Especially from a flirty man who doesn’t fit her dating criteria.

It’s been years since Jakub Wojcik failed to save his wife’s life, but he’s still not ready for a relationship. When the pretty jogger falls at his feet, he can’t resist the urge to help her—it’s what he does. But keeping a cool distance from the feisty doctor isn’t easy. Her uptight manner radiates a need for tenderness that he—surprisingly—wants to give.

As the heat between them rages, Jakub realizes he’s risking his heart on a woman he can’t protect, and Harper is losing hers to a man who doesn’t fit her plan. But sometimes love finds us when we least expect it . . . and need it the most.

I love Colette Dixon’s books and this was no exception but I’ve got to admit this falls in the bottom rail in her series. Obviously just like the other books, this was no unicorns and rainbows but a true heart wrenching story. I wouldn’t say it totally breaks your heart but it still manages to make your heart twinge.

Unlike the other heroines, I had a slightly hard time to warm up to Harper. Even Jakub, although I really liked both of them it was harder to completely love them. Which means they were more human than just other book characters. Not the perfect characters you find in books but people you can expect to see on the road or be your friend. People don’t always make the correct decisions. Sometimes that is what helps them become more mature over time.

Still I really loved the book and would really love to read the rest of the series, if Ms Dixon thinks of continuing it. Also reading 3 of her books in close proximity, I’ve got to say that she’s fast becoming one of my favorite authors.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Colette Dixon!

A Beautiful Fire
is the fourth book in the Love at Lincolnfield series and tells the story of Harper and Jakub. Although this is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

A second chance romance with an opposites attract trope? Sign me up! I really enjoyed reading A Beautiful Fire because I just love these types of books. They’re so addictive because you have to know what’s going to happen to the main characters.

I really liked how strong Harper is, she knows what she wants and she works for it. Jakub is a caring and protective guy, and I liked those qualities. Harper and Jakub are so different yet they match perfectly. I liked reading about their romance!

A Beautiful Fire is another good book in the Love at Lincolfield series and I cannot wait to read the other books in the series!

Another scintillating story by Dixon with heart and humor in equal measure. An opposites attract love story with a hot fireman hero. What's not to love?

A Beautiful Fire is the first book I have read by Colette Dixon and it is the fourth book in her Love at Lincolnfield series and it was good read that offered a small town charm, misunderstandings. This is Jakub, hot sexy firefighter and Harper, uptight rude doctor's story they are both strong characters along with all of side characters that are well written. Their attraction was strong and their chemistry generated lots of sparks. The storyline was engaging and fun but offers a solid amount of drama and emotional turmoil as this couple relationship evolves into more than they ever imagined.

I absolutely love this series. This book makes you have all the feels, just like you expect. I mean, who doesn't love a hunky fire fighter taking care of an injured woman? It almost has a Chicago Fire feel to it. You don't have to read these books in any order so I highly recommend starting with A Beautiful Fire. If you love strong males and the even stronger female who make the Heroes fall in love, this book is for you. Can't wait to read the next one!

A great read

Harper meets Jakub when she is out jogging and has an accident. He rescues her, even though it is the last thing she wants.

I really liked both of the characters, and even though they both have their issues, you hope they can get past these and be together.

I have loved this series of books and can't wait for the next one!

This is the first book by this Author that I have read and I want to read more by her. This is book four in the Love at Lincolnfield series a well written story that kept me turning pages. This is doctor Harper Peters and sexy firefighter and widower Jakub Wojcik two very different people that should not find love but do. They will have so much to go through, I enjoyed reading their story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I've read all the books in the series, but they are all complete stand-alones. This one was just as good as all the others. It was definitely more dramatic than the others, it had me holding my breath there for a little while. I really liked Jakob, I wouldn't have minded the story being a little longer - the epilogue grazed over a bit quick on details for me. But that just shows you how much I liked it, that I didn't want it to end

Harper and Jakob are hurt by life and have a long way to soul recovery and happiness.
I liked all the parts where they come to find their self contradiction and work to throw away their fears to jump(back or just jump in a ‘normal’ life.
I think there’s an amount of pain at the end of the book that just brings sadness and frustration for me.
The beginning is too slow and and the end too excruciating. And I guessed many parts of what would arrive to Harper’s professional issues before I read them.
Anyway the writing is good and the feelings of the characters are well explained and make them very hero material.
All in all it’s interesting enough to make me want to read other stories from the author.

This was a good read. Harper goes running and makes sure to run past the fire station. She finds herself attracted to him. One day she hurts herself and he is there to help her. The both want each other. However, he is dealing with his past and he doesn't meet her requirements. In the end they have to decide if they are worth it.

Since relationship angst often leads to the sweetest types of HEAs, I’m not afraid to jump right into the fray of it, folks. A Beautiful Fire had all kinds of sparks of attraction/chemistry between this main couple, but they both on numerous occasions were on and off again conflicted as to whether they should pursue being together. This lead to some knuckleheaded thinking/heated exchanges and even at times total silence/distance between them. Despite all that, I still hung on every word and loved seeing them choose each other when all was said and done.

As a young, widow, firefighter hero, Jakub has known loss. My heart ached for him. Harper is the first woman to grab his attention since his wife’s unexpected, sudden death. He openly admits he still grieves for her, but Harper has pulled at his heart’s strings in such a way she feels like a new kind of love, not a replacement. So, yeah, he’ll always still love the memory of his late wife, but Harper does seem to have his heart now.

Surprisingly, Harper became more wishy-washy than Jakub. She even contemplates long term dating another guy in another city who was previously always asking her out. In fact, she goes out to dinner with the guy after she and Jakub appear to part ways. She claimed to be decisive and knew what she wanted in a guy. However, I couldn’t help but visualize her as a daisy petal plucking decision making type of person..”I’m going to love him”..”I’ll love him not”. We are told her past baggage and are lead to believe that is her justification.

Anyhow, my fellow romance book loving friends, I’m glad these two knuckleheaded lovebirds finally come to their senses and let love be the best medicine and consume them heart and soul.

Romance Safety Gang:

Title: A Beautiful Fire, Series: Love at Lincolnfield (Book 4), Author: Colette Dixon, Pages: 279, stand-alone but part of a series, relationship angst, widow firefighter hero, doctor heroine, a couple very graphic smex scenes, conflicted main couple, heroine even more wishy-washy, knuckleheads falling in love, writing flowed well, list making type heroine, not a manho, celibate since wife’s death.

Book 1 - A Beautiful Risk
Book 2 - A Beautiful Touch
Book 3 - A Beautiful Match
Book 4 - A Beautiful Fire

One of the more serious and reserved romances I’ve read, I enjoyed the bulk of this book but never moved into love territory. The story is complex and realistic, infusing real life insecurities and doubts with a love that blooms slowly between two somewhat broken individuals. I loved how these two made each other better, but the romance itself is a little cold (and not just because of our heroine’s personality).

The story follows Harper, an uptight doctor with a list of criteria she’s looking for in the perfect partner. She runs past the firehouse in town every day to catch a peek at the hot firefighter who is always around, but she would never consider him as a potential date. When she injures herself on her run, Hot Firefighter (Jakub) comes to her aid. As he takes care of her, going above and beyond the call of duty, she begins to see what a great guy he is - and over time comes to realize she may need to throw out her criteria if he doesn’t fit the bill.

I really liked Jakub - he’s a caring and protective guy, widowed at a young age. He hasn’t fully moved on from his wife’s death but he also sees an opportunity for something good with Harper. She’s a little more difficult to like, and every time I warmed up to her something got in the way. While I enjoyed the book overall, I didn’t love the repeated lack of communication between these two. Every time there was an obstacle thrown in their path, they would stop talking for weeks at a time. I’m not sure how you can be so into someone and still decide you don’t need to even text or call for weeks at a time, so that threw me off a bit. I would definitely check out more of this author’s work in the future though, because perhaps that was just a personality issue with our couple.

A great heart pounding read. The story was very well written with great characters. It drew me in and I had it finished in one sitting. I would highly recommend this read.

Tough call for me with this one. I didn't love it the way I loved the first few in the series. I hard a hard time relating to Harper, who was just a little rough around the edges and rigid. Jake didn't fare well with me either, although I did like his sense of humor and his sweet family, along with the food! I can relate! I did like him better than Harper though. Harper had a list made of criteria that she wanted in mate. Her problem was she wanted every box ticked and just a tad unrealistic. Her problems start when she's out jogging and falls literally at the feet of the hot fireman she eyes everyday while she's out for her run. Feeling like he needs to help her, he's off his shift and takes her to the Hospital to get checked out. Harper doesn't want help. Jake doesn't want a relationship, he's still not over the death of his wife 5 years prior.
There's plenty of push pull in this relationship, Harper begins to realize that maybe her list is skewed and Jake while still fighting is regret is falling for Harper. This story has plenty of tension and the plot was solid and writing as always, stellar. This just wasn't my favorite book. I love this series, Colette writes a great story!

The story was ok but I found it difficult to connect with the characters.
Harper is a doctor of looking for love. Based on her relationship with her father, she has come up with a list of desirable characteristics for her future partner. I didn’t like the fact that she shared this list with Jakob on their first date when he didn’t really fit any of those traits. Granted, he asked what her list was, but hasn’t she heard of discretion? Also, she doesn’t practice what she preaches. She had dropped a former boyfriend, who even though ticked 90% of the positive boxes, did not communicate often enough for her. Yet, she herself did not communicate with Jakob, even though they were now dating, when she decided to move to another city for a month for her job.
Jakob is a widowed firefighter. I guess I like more alpha males as I found him too uncertain. I am all for consent, but the first time they are making out, he kept asking if it was ok to kiss her, to touch her. I found it to be a mood killer.

Harper has held herself back romantically ever since a crappy college beau proved to love her and several other women at the same time. With each man she saw, she added additional requirements for a man and what she needs from him to her list.

Jakub is a hot looking fireman who works out of the firehouse next door to her run down fixer upper day dream house. A day dream man, until the day she literally fall to his feet.

In the process of her recovery, the physician and firefighter reluctantly discover what they need and have in each other. He may not be the man her checklist tells her she should want most, but he seems to be the one her heart wants.

Past hurts and present dangers and jerks might stand in their way, but there is some great potential between them, if they can grasp and hang onto it.

Dramatic and emotional!

Every morning at 5:15 Harper jogs by the fire station hoping to see the hunky firefighter .But this time she trips an falls an breaks her knee. When she looks up she sees the gorgeous Firefighter standing there. She says that shes ok so he offers her his hand but when she puts weight on her leg everything goes black. She wakes up an sees shes on a bunk in the fire station an needs to get to a meeting but he tells her to look at her knee.He tells her to call an he picks her up an carries her to his truck her hot forehand name is Jakub .There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the end last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what;s next by this multi talented author.

I was gifted this book
Less interesting than the other 3 books in the series, but the last part of the book was the most interesting (the last hour or so). Before that, you get a wishy-washy kind of relationship between Jakub and Harper, with neither knowing what they want in their personal lives, except as a career. They argue, fight, and dismiss each other too often to be entertaining; I gave up 3 hours before the end. I skipped over their bedroom scenes.

Colette Dixon’s fifth book, A Beautiful Fire, in the Beautiful series (each a stand-alone) was slow moving for the first 2/3rds of the book, but the last 1/3rd was fast moving and emotionally driven. Ping ponging insecurities, conflicting desires, and emotions packed the first part of the story...but by staying true to her characters...not seeking any type of cliche HEA ending...this author brought relatable authenticity and personality to the characters. I don’t think I developed an emotional attachment to Harper until the last part of the story, with Jayub, that formed early on...his was a character rife with depth and personality, which stood out prominently all throughout the story.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

This is the fourth book in this series but I am led to believe each is a total stand alone story I enjoyed this book enough to go back and read the previous books in the story

The characters in this book are both fighting their own personal demons Jakub Wojcik (Jake) lost his wife five years earlier and is still wallowing in guilt determined to never love again. While Doctor Harper Peters has a list a mile long that any future suitor will have to complete ( I had problems with her she was so unrealistic with her list). Harper has been ogling the local firefighter every day when she is out for her run and when she falls at his feet Jake steps in and takes her to the hospital Can these two let down their walls and realise that life isn't perfect and that you have to compromise sometimes Can they heal one another and do they have a future together.

This book had a wonderful male character, but the female lead was unsympathetic. Harper has a fairly rigid list of attributes required for a partner, and Jakub doesn’t make the cut on several. She is relatively obnoxiously surprised about his appeal and intelligence at times, while he is uniformly pleasant and caring. There is, though, significant character building of Harper’s character, which redeems both her and the story. The story just felt a bit sterile, which made it difficult to really identify with.

Really liked this book, without giving too much away they needed their heads knocked together.... Wow they were up and down, backward and forward! Although it did feel that the injuries healed very quickly, and I knew a certain person was dodgy had been it from the beginning. But the ending though......
Definitely worth your time to read.

I enjoyed this new "Love at Lincolnfield" story! It's a heartwarming story between a doctor and a firefighter. The story is nicely developed and well written. Love the characters! Harper and Jakub are great. Neither looking for a relationship or love reluctantly find more. She is a doctor who runs by the firehouse every morning. One morning she lands in front of the hot firefighter. Overall good story with some interesting twists.

This is the first book I have read from this series and I cannot wait to check out the previous books. This was a good well-written book the storyline was good and quickly sucked me in. I liked Jake I thought he had a great sense of humor but I will admit it did take me a little longer to warm to Harper but that could just be me. This was a good book and well worth a read.
