The Secret Seaside Escape is, in my opinion, Heidi’s best book to date (and I love all her wonderful books), this is a beautiful story; I loved it and was enthralled from the first page, right through to the last. I felt as though I was there; a part of the community which was all so vivid in my mind, and now I feel at a loss.
I adored Tess. In fact, I adored most of the characters, from kind-hearted ladies: Joan and Sophie, to comical elderly gent George, and not forgetting the Wynmouth gang! Believe me, you are in for a real treat!

Tess works for Tyler PR and she needs to take a break or her health is going to suffer. She really is non-stop work, work, work, and her latest client is being a bit of a nuisance. As Tess discovers something which needs her attention, she decides that she is going away regardless of the consequences! Tess sets off for Wynmouth - a place that she holds dear and which fills her with fond childhood memories.
I loved Wynmouth, the setting for the story was just perfect and I loved the feel of the close-knit community. However, it isn’t all hunky dory, and I felt excited as I couldn’t wait for the secrets to be revealed, and would there be any love in the air? I loved the plot and how it all slotted together and some scenes really made me feel overwhelmed! I was happy with how Tess fitted in on her arrival and it was like a home-from-home for her.
I felt stunned a few times - in a good way... Just when you think you have worked something out, along comes Heidi who pulls the rug out from under you!
I am very much hoping that we will get to meet this lovely assortment of characters again and to hear what they have been up to; they are so very entertaining and full of life. This is a book that has everything: the perfect-setting, characters, storyline and it really empathizes the importance of friendship, priorities, communicating with each other better, and in ‘taking that chance in life!’ It also has plenty of drama and surprises, too. It made me feel all warm inside, like I’d eaten a delicious pudding, and yes, I wanted more!
I highly recommend this absolute joy of a book-dessert and, please, Heidi Swain, can we have seconds?!!
Many thanks to Simon & Schuster UK via NetGalley for allowing me the great pleasure to read this book.

*Assumptions*

Tess is in need of a break as she works tirelessly for her demanding father who runs the family successful marketing business. Another thing that irks her is that he rarely shows any affection and in her eyes her poor mother is neglected and seems to fill her days shopping. All is not what it seems.

When her mother dies suddenly of a heart attack Tess cannot understand her father’s distant and cold behaviour, as they decide to go through her mother’s belongings he is detached. So when Tess finds a trunk and in it are letters that in her eyes proves his deceit. Instead of tackling her father she decides to run off to Wynmouth.

Wynmouth is very special to Tess she fell in love with it as a child, it is also the place of where she had her forever kiss that kiss she never forgot. Armed with her letters she decides to have a hiatus no phones, social media etc.

Tess is renting a cottage from the owner of the pub Sam and is instantly attracted to him but shelves the idea because it looks like he has a girlfriend

One of the things that the cafe owner says to her is whatever happens make sure you have all the facts. Does Tess listen, she goes on to make one assumption after another and makes a mighty mess of her own making burgeoning on the irritated side and makes one faux pas after another. The biggest faux pas is the assumption she makes about her father…. we find out at the end of the book I guessed half of it but got more than I thought.

An easy read even though I wanted to scream at Tess who never seemed to learn from her lessons….

This was a lovely book to read. As I read it I could picture the beach, pub and the cafe with it’s wonderful meals and people walking on the windswept beach.
This was the first time I’d read this author’s book and I was enthralled by it. It was warm and entertaining and I read it very quickly. I was so pleased that it had a happy ending, just what I needed. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Well this was a welcome escape from the real world. Heidi Swain always lets you delve deep into her worlds, walk along with her characters and enjoy some really tasty meals in the coffee shops and pubs that she creates and it is always a welcome escape to me.

I really enjoyed this new coastal setting in the Wynbridge worlds. Although this is not a Wynbridge novel you can tell that this all takes place in the same world and I know that characters from Heidi's previous novels will have walked these shores and been tempted by this coffee shop too.

As well as this book having a great setting it also has a lot to say about slowing down and taking a moment to breathe in this technology saturated more is more world. I really liked how Heidi picked up this theme and really illustrated how damaging it can be trying to keep up in the corporate world and never switching off because our emails are on our phones and our employers can reach us at any time.

I think the fact that this novel has the message of slowing down and taking a moment to smell the rose does mean that it moves at a slower pace to previous Heidi Swain books. I feel like it took me longer to get to the crescendo and the ending than in some of the Wynbridge novels where there is always a hive of activity and multiple characters are living their own drama filled storylines. I don't think there was an issue with the pacing, it is just slower than I have come to expect from a Heidi Swain book.

Tess was a really fun character to spend this novel with because she really seems to know herself. She has been on a trajectory that she thought that she loved and she thought that she wanted but actually when she takes a step back ans examines that, she knows deep down that something has to give. I really liked how family oriented she is as well. She has a great loyalty to her family and yet they haven't always been there for her the way they should have.

There are some other wonderful characters we get to meet in this novel too. Sophie has the aforementioned coffee shop that we know will always feature in some way or another in a Heidi Swain novel and her daughter Hope share a definite affinity for making things bigger and better with main character Tess. And then there are Joe and Sam. Each mysterious in their own way, we can tell there is going to be some romance where these guys are concerned.

If you're looking for a seaside escape then this novel literally tells you that's what it's going to give you on the front cover. This is a nice break from a lot of the recent 'coastal' novels that are all set in Cornwall. It was nice to have a sleepy setting, an interesting cast and of course Heidi's Swains infamous signature dishes. Don't read this unless you have access to some snacks and possibly a pint! I really recommend this book.

I enjoyed this one despite the cheese factor and people not listening to each other which leads to completely incorrect assumptions. I usually hate this trope but there was enough warmth and positivity here to rescue this one for me.
Cute characters, fun story :)

I always love Heidi’s books and couldn’t wait for to read this book and I wasn’t let down simply fantastic and full of escaping from life and a very sunny read full of making new friends finding family secrets and romance. Very sunny read and couldn’t put it down simply a fantastic read.

She use to love going to wynmouth a little seaside town she decides to flee there as a cottage she loves is free. She takes what she thinks is her mother’s diary’s to read to.
She loves staying at the beach and such a lovely community and she loves the barman Sam she suggests events to help raise money and it all goes well. If I could give this more stars I would!
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge Heidi Swain fan, I recommend her to anyone who would listen and can't wait for each book to be released. I got this one early as a pre release and I have to say it is her best yet!
I instantly fell in love with the people, the place and everything else. I want to book the cottage and I want to holiday in Wynmouth!
Thank you Heidi for again releasing a fabulous book which makes me laugh, smile, cry and get angry and feel what the characters feel.
Each character had a great storyline and how it all came together was perfect too. It covers some very good topics and things that need talking about too. Lots of little twists which were lovely little surprises too.
All in all I think you can see that I loved this book and would definitely recommend. I would rate it higher if I could!
Thank you netgalley for this early release ARC

I’m a huge fan of this author and her wonderfully escapist books which are just what I need at the moment.

The wonderful descriptions of Weymouth made me feel nostalgic for past family holidays on the beach. I’ve always loved the idea of moving somewhere new and starting again, so you can imagine how much this book appealed to me. The descriptions were very vivid and made me feel that I was actually there experiencing everything alongside them. I can’t wait to go to the beach when all of this is over.

I loved the close knit community depicted in this book which was heart warming to read about. It was so nice to see everyone looking out for and helping each other for once. There were some fabulous, unforgettable characters which made me laugh out loud at times. George in particular was incredibly funny and Joan and Sophie brought tears to my eyes as they were such lovely people.

Overall I thought this was a fantastic, compelling novel which I got lost in for hours at a time. I loved following Tess, Sam, Joe and Hope as they go about their lives in Weymouth and slowly become part of the community. There are some great hidden meanings in this book too about how important friendship is and how it’s important to take chances sometimes which just made this book for me.

Huge thanks to Harriet from Simon & Schuster for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book via Netgalley.

I was so disappointed with this book! I had heard so many good things about Heidi Swain books and about this one in particular so I thought I’d give it a go...

I Found the book a bit boring and at some times unrealistic... the way Tess jumped so quickly in to Village life and planning these big events .. just wouldn’t really happen.. and certain things that characters said in the story.. you would never actually say to someone .. so I found it at times a bit annoying.

I didn’t like the way that Tess jumped to so many conclusions in the story and ended up being made to look stupid...

I worked out pretty quickly that Sam and Hope weren’t actually a couple and so it annoyed me how oblivious Tess was. The fact that hope didn’t care when Tess mentioned her and Sam kissing rumours surely was a bit of a giveaway?? That annoyed me also.

I think the ‘problems’ that Tess was supposedly running away from were kind of minor however she made such a big deal about keeping it all a secret.. when I really don’t think it was that big a deal? Also a bit confused as to why she didn’t want anyone knowing she had been to Wynmouth before.. was it because of Joe...? I wasn’t really sure and so thought that all seemed a bit silly..

For me the book was really dull until Joe came into it and things picked up a litttle bit, but most of the time I was feeling a bit confused and felt like Tess made such a big deal out of small things. I liked the little village of Wynmouth and did like the characters Hope and Sophie. I wasn’t loving the end with the sister twist think it was all a bit far fetched.

I’ve only seen people give this book 5 star reviews so would love to know if anyone felt the same as me!

What a lovely book! I had started to lose my reading mojo, and this has brought it back. Brilliant storyline, beautifully written with lots of descriptive scenery which really does make you feel like you are there. The characters are wonderful, even when they get a bit grumpy! Surprisingly lots of plot twist! Also, with lots of valuable lessons in life made. My first by this author and I will be reading more. Oh, and amazing use of the word gargantuan! I loved every bit of this book and would highly recommend.

I have read each and every one of Heidi Swains previous novels and absolutely adore them and when I found out that her new novel was set in Wynmouth I couldn’t wait to return here and escape in her warming writing style.

Tess works for her father at his company and she has always been such a dedicated hard worker but she has reached the point where she has physically and emotionally burnt out. After the loss of her mum and the discovery of a diary amongst her belongings Tess yearns for the comfort of her childhood haven where she spent so many happy years with her parents as a child, Wynmouth is calling her and she wastes no time in setting off for an extended break. Away from technology and being uncontactable allows Tess to switch off but as she begins to read the diary she found she begins to uncover painful secrets, but the folk of Wynmouth are soon on hand to bring a little light back into her life and distract her.

One thing Heidi always manages to do is create an idyllic setting with such a strong community spirit and characters who I become so fond of I just want to fall into the pages and live my life amongst them and this is exactly how I felt reading this book, I would love to have been enveloped in Sophie’s love and care and looking out at the wonderful views and tasting her delicious delights!

There is a higgledy piggledy hint of romance flowing through the storyline that although was a little predictable I still felt myself longing for certain couples to come together. There was a little lol point in this book which I though my attention was slowly drifting but there was then a couple of revelations that were revealed that I did not see coming at all and left me completely surprised and I actually think having my attention wavering slightly made these revelations more of an impact and had me hooked back in and greedily turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next.

The supporting characters were all loveable, friendly and supportive and it was great to see them all taking Tess under their wings and her being able to help them and their businesses in return.
This was another enjoyable and uplifting read by Heidi Swain, the perfect book to escape from the madness in our world right now.

I honestly have my fellow book club friends to thank for this recommendation. After hearing a few of them talk about Heidi Swain’s books I decided to see for myself what all the fuss was about. I decided to do a free trial of Audible and start my Heidi Swain journey, thankfully a few of my friends told me about the different series so I started with the first one in the Wynmouth collection.

Whilst this may be my first Heidi Swain I am certain it won’t be my last! There is something very familiar about Heidi Swain and the way she writes. It’s like sitting down with an old friend and chatting over endless cups of tea and cake, you feel assured that you’re going to love every minute of it and I certainly had all the warm fuzzy feelings by the end.

The setting of Wynmouth was beautiful and the community was adorable. I could visualise Tess walking along the beach and heading to the local shops, being stopped countless times to catch up on local gossip. Heidi Swain created the perfect picturesque seaside town complete with its colourful characters.

I did feel for Tess at times, especially at the beginning when it was clear that she was overworked and felt very undervalued. I couldn’t blame her for running off to the one place that was filled with so many happy memories. The way Tess instantly started to gel with the locals and help the surrounding businesses was so heart warming to see and showed just how well she fitted in. Of all the secondary characters I think Sophie was my favourite. Not only did her home cooking have me salivating but her sunshine persona was a welcomed addition and her sound advice to Tess was the cherry on the top.

Just like Tess though I kept assuming that I knew the outcome to every scenario. You know what they don’t assume because it makes an ass out of ‘u’ and ‘me’. Well lets just say I was fully onboard with all of Tess’s theories and had I been there with her I doubt she would of been the only one left red faced.

The ending brought about a lovely conclusion to all the questions and worries. There were definitely a few surprises in there and some blossoming romances that I was keen to see start. I am really keen to read another Heidi Swain now and am looking forward to reading the next in the Wynmouth series with my book club! I have also just started The Cherry tree Café on audio so there is now stopping me now, I’m on a roll.

A warm brilliant read, the characters brought a smile to my face. The plot had a few twists but it was Heidi's talent as a storyteller brought out the richness of the tale.
A feel good book, a perfect route to escape.

Tess goes away to the Norfolk coast where she has good memories of her mum after making a shocking discovery at home about her parents.

Leaving her father's business in the lurch and switching off her phone she sets about helping the lovely locals, Sam, Hope and there she meets brother's Joe and Charlie.

However as she grows closer to them she finds out a huge life changing secret and her workaholic dad surprises her beyond belief...

The ending was phenomenal, a huge unexpected plot twist which made me gasp I was shocked and hooked on reading on about her family what a twist! A perfect read to distract through current times I was immersed in this wonderful world and the characters lives.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

I always look forward to a Heidi Swain novel and this one was high up on my reading list! The sunshiney cover screamed summer and the location looked so picturesque that I couldn't wait to delve in and read all about Tess and Sam!

At the beginning, I wasn't a massive fan of Tess believe it or not. She seemed quite self-centered and even though I knew she had been through a hard time she didn't seem quite like who I usually liked to read about as she was a workaholic and came across as quite a know-it-all when she was giving Chris a telling off! However, having said that, it appeared that as soon as she arrived in Wynmouth everything changed. She became nicer, more down-to-earth and understanding. She seemed more like a lovely person, exactly the type who I do enjoy reading about.

The location of this novel sounded so lovely. Imagine a cottage right on the beach, you can't think of anything better right?! Well I certainly can't anyway. I also loved the events that Tess, with the help of Hope, Sophie and Sam, put together. They sounded so community driven and sounded like a load of fun with so many friendly neighbours within the Wynmouth community. What I wished was included more was the storyline to do with Tess' mum and her diary. Simply because I was being nosy and wanted to learn more about what had happened!

I was pleasantly pleased with how this lovely sunshiney novel ended, and there was two twists which I really wasn't expecting! But having said that, they were twists for the better and this was a really lovely, happy and lighthearted novel to read. Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read an advance copy of this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.

What a gorgeous new setting from Heidi Swain, in this delightful story, filled with secrets, misunderstandings, great events and the possibility that summer could change lives.

Tess is feeling overwhelmed by her high pressured job, its making her ill, and she keeps dreaming of her childhood holidays to Wynmouth. She is still grieving for her mum, and when she discovers that not everything was as seemed in her parents marriage, she takes off for a break to Wynbridge without telling anyone where she's going.

She also has memories of the most spectacular first kiss of her life behind the beach huts when she was a teen there, and a small part of her is hoping to see if that man is still there or generally see if there are any familiar faces still to her.

The town really isn't as she remembered it, but she also isn't one to sit back and do nothing on her break, so she soon gets involved with some of the local businesses and their owners. She makes friends, and there are some gorgeous men about too.

I loved the descriptions of Wynmouth,I could picture the beach, and Sophie's fusion cafe so well, as well as Sam's pub. And the thoughts of rock pooling and the beach huts and fish and chips are just typical of an English seaside break.

I love this authors writing style, her way with words, and storytelling ability. As the book progressed I was drawn into it more and more and was incredibly curious as to how some of the plots would turn out. Seeing how Tess changes over the course of the book and the way her new friendships developed was really great to see.

I just really enjoyed everything about this book.

'The Secret Seaside Escape' by Heidi Swain is a jolly-jaunt of a novel, marvellously uplifting & joyfully warm, much in-keeping with the previous books by this author I've had the pleasure of reading. Combining friendship & relationships, family & self-discovery, dreams and hopes and wishes, this is an inspiring story, encouraging readers to take control of their lives and go after whatever it is that makes their hearts happy, no matter how hard the decisions that need to be made along the way.
In Swain's 'The Secret Seaside Escape', readers are introduced to Tess Tyler, a bonafide workaholic, with the most abysmal work and life balance known to man. Since the sudden death of her mother, Tess has found that the only way to cope is to work, work, work, and then some. Her boss is no other than her very own father, a man who, Tess feels, has changed immeasurably in the years since their shared loss. Following by her father's example, Tess knows of no other way of life besides the Tyler way, which is to work tirelessly until the job is done, and then repeat once more.
"You're a Tyler, Tess. We don't give up, remember? We thrive on stress. Our ability to power through is what keeps us one step ahead of the competition."
What quickly becomes apparent is that Tess Tyler needs a break, and sharpish. There's a place she holds dear in her memory and has done since she was younger. A seaside town where she remembers being completely and utterly content, where life moved at a snail's pace yet everyday still felt full of love and joy. It's a place that Tess Tyler thinks about often, and it might just be the place that will help Tess to figure out what it really is that she wants from life, and what it is that makes her truly happy.
Swain truly takes her readers away with her latest novel, and it was a gloriously charming and most-welcome break from real life. From the moment Tess arrives in Wynmouth and settles down to enjoy her new, if only temporary, life in Crow's Nest Cottage at a slower, more easy-going pace, I was more than ready to settle down beside her and figure out how we were going to spend our time while in the seaside town.
This isn't simply a lovely little trip to the seaside for Tess, though. There are far deeper, more personal reasons for Tess's escape to Wynmouth, and it's not only to be rid of the hold that her job has over her every hour of every day. Although Tess is more than aware that she mentally and physically deserves a break, after discovering the pages of her late mother's diary while going through her mother's things, this time away is also time to read and absorb the secrets within the pages, to find out what was going on in her mother's head before she passed away, and to figure out if there was anything else going on within her parents' marriage. She needs space and time, to figure out who she is, and what she wants.
I found this tale to be one of those which was incredibly easy to become lost in. Swain's leading lady, Tess, felt rather relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her, and what it was that made her tick. Swain creates such lovable and friendly characters, people who you'd feel very lucky to know, from all walks of life. During her time in Wynmouth, Tess meets Sophie and Hope, Sam and Joe, each of them unique and important to the lessons that Tess will learn before her time in the town is up.
From the first page to the very last, Tess is taken on a whirlwind adventure and I loved every moment of it. There was so much going on in this book, I was constantly entertained and kept wondering what would happen next. With so many gorgeous characters to get to know, so many exciting events to be witness to, and plenty of surprises in Tess's journey towards self-discovery, 'The Secret Seaside Escape' was absolutely bloody lovely and left me feeling the same way Heidi's previous books have left me feeling once finished, and that is simply happy.
If you're partial to quaint seaside getaways, sprinkled with the most warm and welcoming of characters, and family-focused stories with a whole lot of heart and warmth, then 'The Secret Seaside Escape' by Heidi Swain is perfect for you. If you enjoy novels based around tight-knit communities and people each other out in their time of need then, again, this will be right up your street. Heidi Swain writes straight from the heart and it shows within her books. I already can't wait for the next one.
This was a very welcome escape from reality amid the chaos we are experiencing at the moment, and I'm sure it will give many readers the same much-needed escape as it gifted me. The Book Babe is giving 'The Secret Seaside Escape' by Heidi Swain a rating of four out of five. I'd like to thank Simon & Schuster UK for the advanced reading copy of this book, that of which has no reflection my giving a fair and honest review.

This was the perfect holiday book, a laid back, easy read full of charm and comfort. It does have a slower pace than some other books but I do believe that's intentional. The whole message behind everything is to slowdown, to switch off from technology and take the time away to truly appreciate things.

'...some things in life simply aren't meant to be rushed. You have to let them run their own course and allow them to happen in their own time.'

So we have our main girl Tess, who is very much the over achieving worker, trying her best to please a distant father. You soon get the sense that the relationship she has with him is fractured, and this is one of the issues that Tess needs to work through as the story goes on. At the beginning of the book she's working long hours, not taken a holiday in far too long, and is generally just at the end of her tether. She's deciding whether to take a holiday when she finds a bunch of letters from her deceased mum which convinces her that yes, she needs to get out of town for a while. And so she does!

She books herself into a little cottage in the seaside town of Wynmouth and runs away the next day.

I loved the way Tess knows herself so well. She can sense that she's getting too overtaxed, that she needs a break and she doesn't hesitate before taking action. She is also shown to be very giving and thoughtful. As she gets to know the people of Wynmouth she can see that their businesses aren't doing as well as they could and she doesn't hesitate to give out advice, or even help them organise events. It was brilliant how she was always willing to help these complete strangers, and I really enjoyed seeing their relationships develop over time.

The characters were all loveable and charming in their own ways and I absolutely adored Sophie, she was hands down my favourite character. Every time she came on the page I would smile because she was just brimming over with warmth and kindness for everyone. I also loved the sound of her café, some of the food items described made me drool, they sounded absolutely delicious!

I did have a bit of a hard time with the romance, there were times when it left a bad taste in my mouth. There was a lot of drama surrounding it that wasn't my favourite so be very wary if you .

The twist at the end with her father was brilliant though. Definitely did not see that one coming!

In the end I did enjoy my time spent in Wynmouth. Swain definitely knows how to build up a lovely community spirit, this book is just brimming with the camaraderie of a town coming together to help one another. She also did an amazing job of describing it all, the rockpools, the beach, the pub and the café, it all sounds like a beautiful, relaxing sort of place, and I did find myself a bit sad to leave once I'd finished.

The author does hint a bit that she might write other books in Wynmouth so I'll definitely be keeping my eyes out and hoping that's the case!

Devoured!

I raced as fast as possible to NetGalley when Heidi Swain posted on social media that review copies were up for grabs. I kept my cool and held off reading for a good few weeks to try and wait for some brighter weather to help transport me to the seaside, however I don't think I needed to bother waiting as Heidi's beautiful writing took me right there.

What a fantastic story this was - Tess is burning out in her high pressured job role and makes a snap decision to take a leave of absence and go to the seaside resort of Wynnouth, the place of so many happy childhood memories for her, to recharge herself. What a breathtakingly beautiful place it sounds, Heidi writes descriptions so well I felt envious of anyone who lives in such a resort!

Whilst there Tess meets an array of characters, all ridiculously lovely - young and old - and forges many friendships whilst she keeps extending her stay. I like the fact that she doesn't sit idle and feel sorry for herself and throws herself into the community spirit and assisting friends with their own woes and businesses.

Along the way, Tess has matters of the heart and head of her own to contend with too. I was rooting for her, such a likeable character. I thought I had it all sussed out but there was a twist or 2 at the end I did not see coming!

An absolute corker, I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could and would absolutely recommend.

My many thanks to Simon & Schuster via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first ever book by Heidi and I absolutely loved it! Usually with romantic fiction you can kind of predict the outcome. However this book had a couple of completely out of the blue twists! I loved the nostalgia elements. I too used to go on little beach holidays with the family. I can understand the torch held for memories of being younger, enjoying time with your parents. Times when the simple things can make the day so much better. 'uncomplicated contentment'. I also liked the complex dynamic of Tess working with her Dad and feeling guilty of not spending enough time with her Mum. It wasn't your usual 'quit your job and go on a jaunt' theme you see alot. The characters of Wynmouth were so vivid and perfectly encapsulated the vibe of small town life.

Picked this because it sounded like the perfect audiobook to listen to over the weekend. And it was so much more than that. I loved this story and the characters. I love how much everyone grew over the course of the story. I felt like I was in this town with everyone just sitting in on their daily lives. I saw that there are more books set in this town and I can't wait to get into those!

An easy read and while I wanted to know what happened next I did get a bit annoyed by Tess. She continually jumped to conclusions and some of her decisions were a bit hard to believe. A series of misunderstandings were resolved and all loose ends tied up satisfactorily.
