Heal: Discover Your Unlimited Potential and Awaken the Powerful Healer Within

Rate this book
Go on a fascinating scientific and spiritual journey in this eye-opening book that explores the body’s incredible ability to heal itself—perfect for fans of Deepak Chopra and Anita Moorjani.

When we receive diagnoses from medical professionals, we are often so overwhelmed that we give up authority over our own health and well-being. But the truth is, we have more control over our health and life that we have been led to believe, and that belief is at the core of our body’s capacity to heal itself.

Based on the groundbreaking documentary of the same name, Heal follows two people on their healing journeys, while combining science-backed research and real-world testimonials from experts like Marianne Williamson, Bruce Lipton, Deepak Chopra, Bernie Siegel, Anita Moorgani, Kelly Brogan, and many others, to offer hope and alternative treatments for the many people suffering from a variety of chronic illnesses. By identifying the emotional roots of illnesses, we can tap into the body’s healing powers and discover that although healing can be complex and deeply personal, it can also happen spontaneously in a moment. Heal shows us that science and spirituality are united and demonstrates that our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions have a huge impact on our overall health and the ability to recover from illness and injury.

Heal Book Takeaways
Forward
To heal is to be someone else
If you focus on an idea for an hour the synaptic connections in your brain double

3 Types of Stressers that create imbalances and balances in the body:
Physical
Chemical
Emotional

Better Physical Balance:
Yoga, Accupuncture, Exercise, chiropractic and massage

Better Chemical Balance: better food choices, taking herbs, supplements, reducing calories

Better Emotional Balance: semation of learning how to calm your mind and become more aware or your thoughts and feelings

Nuero-emotional: meditation, energy psychology, eye movement desensitization reprocessing emdr, emotional freedom technique eft, or psycho-therapy all bring us back to nueroemotional balance

Recalibrate two out of three the third will come into balance and the third will come into balance by default.

Introduction:
When you are pulled by a vision it is a sign that you are aligned with your purpose.

Chapter 1: "what is health"
Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease. - Hippocrates

Health - the condition of being sound in body, mind or spirit. Especially freedom from physical disease or pain. A condition in which someone is thriving or doing well; well-being.

Health is a state of ease = natural state like flowers blooming in the wild.
Biggest culprit to health is stress.

Chapter 2:
"Your body is not as machine"
9 key factors to radical remission:
1. Radically changing your diet
2. Taking control of your health
3. Following your intuition
4. Using herbs and supplements
5. Releasing surpressed emotions
6. Increasing positive emotions
7. Embracing social support
8. Deeping your spiritual connection
9. Having strong reasons for living

Chapter 3: "The Power of the Subconscious Mind"
Cells adjust themselves to the environment they're in.
Consciousness is an interpretation; so the mind reads the environment and makes an interpretation of the environment. The brain translates that interpretation into the chemistry of your blood.
Therefore my interpretation of life is what determines the culture medium in my blood which determines my genetics.

If I change my thought, belief, mind, perception about life i change the signals going in and adjusting function of the cell.

Because of my ability to change my environment and the perception of my environment I am not a victim, instead I am the master of my genetic activity, having the ability to control my genetic heredity.

Healing takes not only participation and focus but also commitment, dedication, patience and enthusiasm.

Developing Commitment:
Can you visualize for ten minutes a day yourself healthy and enjoying the things you love to do?

Chapter 4:
Placebo

Chapter 5:
Pharmaceutical companies are for profit business the more people who are well and healthy the less profit they make.

Go into the anxiety, and restlessness and see what's behind it.

Every thing becomes a memory that has a cellular charge. Cells have memory.

Chapter 6:
"Food and Nature as Medicine"
Your body heals faster on a plant based diet

Longevity depends on fruit.

Build awareness around trusting your gut.
"The voice of compassion"
When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is right, medicine is of no need. - ayurvedic proverb

Chapter 7:
"Tapping Into The Intangible"
You should sit in meditation for 20 mins a day. Unless you are too busy, then you should sit for an hour.

Meditation strengthens intuition and brings body into state of Homeostasis.

How you think act and feel create your personality.

The Frequency of Gratitude is just as powerful when giving thanks for a penny as it when being grateful for a million dollars.

Become aware of when thoughts starts spiraling off & bring em back to gratitude.
Keep list of things grateful for Nd give thanks for that which you want as if you had it now.

Group intention and prayer make the vision stronger and more powerful.

Wherever your faith is strongest, that will lead to your greatest healing.

"If we go back far enough in time, there was a point in time when you, me, and the Earth were all connected, before what is called the big bang, the big release of energy. When that happened physically, particles began to seperate; energetically the particles remained connected. We are part of this earth and we are part of one another." -Gregg Braden

"On living organisms and their electromagnetic field. It is not matter that emits a field; it is the energetic signature of the field that organizes and creates matter. Thus when you change the field, you change the matter."

Conclusion:

Body is constantly rebuilding itself.
"Create program for thanking your new cells for your perfect health."

You reinvent your body why reinventing your soul. -Deepak Chopra

Remember, your cells are listening to your thoughts in your head and the words that you speak out loud so start telling them a different story.

*Pick three empowering affirmations.*

Perception of being loved and supported is healing. *

Focus on life, focus on love.

I really struggled to get into this book. While I enjoyed some of the quotations, having clumps of them interspersed with the author’s text felt incoherent to me. I’m sure that was exacerbated by the lack of formatting in the uncorrected proof I read, so it might be less of a problem in the published version. Also, while the book is described as a “scientific and spiritual journey,” I think it’s heavy on the spirituality and the science seemed questionable. If you’re a fan of the New Age movement, you’ll probably appreciate this book.

I appreciated the message of personal empowerment to heal, and I found some of the stories and quotations inspiring. I liked the section of Takeaways at the end of each chapter and the Daily Reminders for Your healing Journey in the back matter. This book just didn’t have enough depth for my taste—if you’re ok taking things on faith, relying on anecdotes rather than data, then this may work better for you than it did for me.

Those who already have some familiarity with mind-body medicine and leading a holistic lifestyle are unlikely to learn much from this book, but may appreciate this as a dose of inspiration and motivation. I would recommend reviewing the sample to see how you feel about the writing style.

I was provided an ARC through NetGalley that I volunteered to review.

Healing is a very sensitive and often emotionally charged topic. It can be controversial and easily brush wounds. So I give Kelly credit for writing a book that kept such an open, encouraging, friendly, and optimistic tone. The information was insightful without being pushy. I felt uplifted by the little insights on topics like reducing stress, processing emotions in a healthy way, learning the background of medications and supplements, choosing positive distractions and using the power of imagination, nutrition, meditation, and simply the book's overall theme of empowerment. It was certainly a positive read and gives some uplifting energy to keep moving forward on our healing paths!
I admit that I found some of the perspectives troublesome while others inspiring. But I’ve come to expect that in wellness and healing based books. I try to read openheartedly and draw the inspiration I can while not letting the other bits weigh me down too much. My main concern with this book was that it often made healing out to seem a little “too easy.” The power of the mind was emphasized to the point where it almost sounded like patients could simply choose illness or choose wellness. And friends, that just isn’t the case. The book also cited some spiritual teachings out of context in an attempt to back this up, which is always a bummer. But overall, I think all of the authors and interviewees in this book meant well and ultimately acknowledged that illnesses and healing processes are complex and unique to everyone. So I think it’s a nice resource to visit, draw some motivational tips from, and keep moving forward on whatever our holistic healing path looks like.

A nod to how conventional medicine can learn from ‘alternative medicine’ especially with chronic illness. A reminder of how our thoughts can change and heal our biology. From someone who has got out of chronic fatigue thanks to the Lightening Process and rewiring my neural pathways, when no other intervention would get to the core - I believe whole heartedly in what Kelly shares. A lot of quotes as written out of her doco.

I don't quite know how to review this book. On one hand I loved it because I'm endlessly fascinated by this topic... but on the other hand I'm a huge skeptic, science nerd and don't believe in this "fruit loop" stuff.

Heal is the book accompaniment to the Netflix documentary of the same name. The basic premise is that the body has the ability to prevent and heal itself from disease, if only we learnt how to tap into this power. The way to tap into this power according to this book and the "experts" enlisted is to let go of stress and trauma, eat natural foods, practice positive psychology (including gratitude and the law of attraction) and find a strong reason for living.

This book does touch on a lot of points that have solid science backing and truth behind it. For example, the placebo effect is discussed at length. But while it's true that the placebo effect is a real thing and that sometimes pharmaceutical drugs on the market don't or barely outperform this effect, the placebo effect itself is not 100% effective. Similarly, like many books on these topics, the science of quantum physics and things like entanglement theory are misrepresented (or misunderstood by the "experts") and so many false assertions are made about the power of prayer, the existence of souls etc. To the author's credit though, she does not suggest that alternative therapies should be tried at the exclusion of western methods.

While I don't doubt that some of the "experts" in this book understand science and really know what they are talking about, others obviously do not. The lack of skepticism or critical thinking by the author in addition to the points I made above really serve to undermine this book. The formatting and lack of editing also do this book no favours as it reads like a collection of quotes with some exposition in between.

I do think there are nuggets of truth to be found in this book, and as I said I actually really enjoyed reading it. But this is not a book without serious flaws, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

It’s a good complementary to the documentary. I recommend reading the book before watching the doc. The book is a little repetitive so having the information already read up will allow you to just sit back and enjoy the doc without needing to write everything down or rewinding. If you are looking for healing, this is the right place.

Some of the concepts are a little out there and I had difficulty believing them but overall a fascinating explanation of a particular perspective on healing in all its forms and the power we have to influence our own health and bodies.

Today I'm reviewing Heal: Discover Your Unlimited Potential and Awaken The Powerful Healer Within by Kelly Noonan Gores.

Generally I like to start out with a disclaimer. I am an contemporary witch. I look for the connection between magic and science without the need to search for a creator. I receive no compensation for these reviews and all my links are standard Amazon links and not affiliate links. I am a practicing photo reader and have spent the last 16 years honing my craft. I offer personal readings by request and have a strong online history that boasts over 429,000 views.

Starting with the physical book I can say that this is another great one to toss into a bag or purse to read on the go. It is small but the font was chosen well so that these elder eyes can read them without too much trouble. The cover is smooth and contains no illustrations. It does not have an index but does offer a section called "Meet the Experts" where the contributors images and brief bio can be found in its place. We are also provided a further reading section with three pages of recommended books by those same experts, related to the topic of healing.

The book is broken down into seven chapters which lead the reader on a journey of discovery. It covers what exactly our health actually is as well has how to work with food, nature and dealing with things such as the subconscious mind and the placebo effect.

The book contains and assortment of quotes from health professionals and those who have overcome adversity to create a place of learning and growth for the reader. Each chapter has a summary at the end to help the reader understand what they experienced and how to connect with the information on both a physical and spiritual level. Understanding, in chapter one for example, the role that stress plays on the body and how we possess the power to heal ourselves completely, if we simply allow that process to occur.

I enjoyed the section related to understanding that holistic medicine considers a personal mental, emotional and lifestyle factors, not just their physical symptoms. I can say with confidence, after addressing the issues that I had across all facets of my life, I was able to improve not only my physical self, but also my sense of self. Understanding that the more time I spent focusing on negative self talk and self abuse, the more negative I felt. Those things all weighed heavily (both figuratively and literally) on my body. As with the experiences of the journey of those in the book, I found that my ability to awaken my own positive thoughts brought back my bodies own desire to be healthy and to thrive. I continue that practice today with mindful meditation, exploration of spirituality and healing and the desire to reach a place where I can reflect on the world without anger. My desire is to feel only compassion instead of feeding the negativity in this life.

On page 57, the author beings a discussion on forgiveness. For years, I have been of the mindset that while I did not dwell on the past, I was not required to forgive those who wronged me. When I read the following statement, it finally clicked.

I always say that all forgiveness is self-forgiveness because with resentment, unforgiveness, or rancor I may hold towards another, all of those thoughts are happening within me.

Recently I have started studying Buddhism, and I believe that the statement above is directly related to that type of mindset. When I get angry at someone, I hold that anger inside me. That anger eats at me. It has no impact on anyone but me. I feel the pain of it constantly. While I may not think if it all the time, there are reminders, such as seeing someone's face or a memory that pops into my head, that triggers that same feeling each time. With forgiveness, I'm not approving their behavior. I'm not giving in. I am however, allowing myself to say, this no longer has the power to make me sad. This no longer has the power to cause me pain because I forgive this behavior and I remove this behavior from having power in my life.

Chapter six has to be my favorite chapter of the book because it takes a subject that I hold near and dear to my heart into the limelight. It address how Food and Nature are medicine. It provides healing tips as well as quotes around how to use food to heal the body. We are provided with a discussion on Epstein-Barr, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and other autoimmune illnesses that can be treated with food.

Frozen wild blueberries are the most healing fruit on the planet and far superior to larger cultivated blueberries. They pull heavy metals out of the brain and aid in the recovery from neurological problems.

The final chapter talks about Tapping the Intangible with a quote from Carl Sagan.

Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.

It goes on to provide examples of spiritual steps from meditation to prayer that has caused positive health changes in the lives of those practicing. The author invites us to imagine illness to wellness with an exercise on using our brain to literally change the way our body feels. Ancient practices such as yoga are a way to reset or bring our body mind connection back into balance. As a student of yoga, I have been focusing these last few weeks on strengthening my connection to the simple breath as a way to continue to create a healing environment for my body. With dietary changes and listening to my body when it needs to rest, I have been able to reverse several serious inflammatory diseases that were creating havoc in my body. Using gratitude, visualizations and meditation, I have been able to make significant changes in my overall health and well-being.

If you're looking for a book that outlines the basic steps you can take right now to create positive change in your life, I would say this is the book for you. I'm not big on books that promote Christianity as it has done so much harm in our world today, I will give the author a pass on the quotes from the Christian Bible. The ability to provide alternatives to prayer, such as meditation was enough to make the book something that I would recommend for others.

Overall, the book offers a positive way to work with the natural world of food and thought as a healing mechanism for what ails ya!

Samoleczenie (HEAL) is a book that resonated deeply with me. While reading it, I felt it touched on something fundamental and universal – something we all intuitively sense but may not always be able to articulate. This book not only inspired personal reflection but also led me into a profound conversation with a taxi driver about self-healing and the power of the mind. As an optimist, I found that much of its message aligned perfectly with my outlook on life.
Although the religious aspects sometimes felt a bit tiring to me, which is likely due to my personal views on the topic, the book’s overall energy and message have stayed with me. It’s a short read, occasionally sounding a bit simplistic, but it brings warmth and support. It can provide comfort, offer encouragement, and even open a window to a deeper connection with oneself. It’s an inspiring guide for anyone seeking inner strength for self-healing.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. Overall it gave me a lot to think about and a lot to explore beyond traditional medicine and much of it I believe in conceptually, the mind/body connection, healing through food and movement, overcoming trauma, finding your purpose in life, living honestly...however I think the book oversimplifies and overstates some of these things and using the one central example of radical remission repeatedly as the proof point. I havent seen the film, perhaps that is essential viewing before reading the book, but I still got enough out of it to explore and I really appreciate the 10 daily reminders for the healing journey.

An inspiring recount of countless survivors who healed from everything from cancer to spinal cord injury through holistic healing. A book that challenges the status quo of western medicine and the corporatization of our American health care system, while also providing stories of hope, grit, and triumph, against all odds, from every leading disease imaginable. A must read for those facing their own hardships, but also for people who want to know the true power of belief, hope, compassion, and love.

Around 60% of this book consists of quotes from other people. That makes it a bit heavy reading. Therefore the flow of the book is not that good.
I was between three and four stars, I initially wanted to give it three stars, due to the important topic, I gave it four stars. Even though majority of the book is just repetition, I think it’s a important repetition.
