Sunchaser: Part One

Rate this book
Renyl has been a sunchaser most of his life. He makes a living taking energy from stars and selling it to various factions who require it to power their ships, planets, and other large-scale operations. Unfortunately, in Ren’s arm of the universe, stars are becoming rarer and rarer, and he simply doesn’t have the money or the power to jump to a more populated quadrant. With his livelihood literally fading to stardust, he has no choice but to try and take energy from a star in one of the most deadly areas in his quadrant. And, he’s not the only one trying to get to it. A race for the white dwarf begins, and Ren barely manages to get close enough to harvest it when he finds out why this particular area is so dangerous. A being made of pure starlight guards the white dwarf, and he is determined to stop Ren and all the others from stealing the star’s energy, no matter the cost. When Ren tries to outsmart the guardian, his plan backfires and he instead becomes the guardian’s prisoner. It isn’t long before Ren realizes that the guardian isn’t the villain in all he’s just trying to save the galaxy from the spreading darkness that the sunchasers are causing. Old ties aren’t so easily severed, however, and Ren has to decide whether his newfound understanding of the guardian’s plight overshadows his own fight for survival.
