This is the tale of two people who, prior to knowing one another, were unable to dream about the future and were consumed by thoughts of impending death. While Kazu had no motivation to live, Matsuri knew she wouldn't last more than ten years.
Their lives transformed as they grew closer, and Kazu came to realize that life could be beautiful. His life, which had previously been monotonous, was now colorful. Falling in love altered his perspective, and he was unable to let go of the girl he loved so deeply; even though she was unable to accept his feelings, he now had a new purpose in life. He wanted to stick by Matsuri's side and support her through her difficult moments, believing that one day she would be healed.
However, Matsuri found it hard. She was unable to cry when she first learned about her illness because she felt that she had to be stronger than everyone. As a result, she suppressed her feelings and her agony, believing that there was nothing she could do. However, all changed when she felt the sensation of being in love. She finally realized how much she would be missing when the time came for her to pass away after spending her final years with the person she loved.
The Last Ten Years was not sentimental at all; rather, it was a lesson on living life to the fullest in any situation. Matsuri was always aware of how near she was to losing the things she had gained, such a job, friendship, or a romance. She nevertheless mustered the courage to attempt. She was looking for the basic joys of life and purpose in life. I was in this place. I survived. I cherished. She also instilled a passion of life in Kazuto through her strength.
The Last Ten Years emphasizes appreciating life's beauty and discovering your own happiness in it by using depressing desires. I hope this incredible piece of art eventually gets the recognition and appreciation it so well deserves.
