FIGHT LIKE NOBODY'S WATCHING.

To clarify, I never asked for an origin story.

Why would I? Beginnings demand endings, and heroes die alone.

But for better or worse I’m the Live Soldier now, and there is still work to be done. The last bastions of civilization are going dark, and we need to find out why.

From the Thresh, through a virtual world torn by civil war, to a city stripped of its name, we will chase answers. But the truth is rarely a tame creature, and friends will be lost in the pursuit.

My path is set, though. In fact it’s amazing how fearless you can be, when millions of people are analyzing your every move. The only question is, will you be one of them?

3 stars even. A moderately better executed story than the first 'Die Famous' book but, sheesh, it was still all over the place. Clay's 'everything and the kitchen sink, too' approach to plotting is exhausting, especially as its only presented through the EYE of our protagonist. For goodness sakes, let the team split up occasionally and tell things from their perspective.

I did find the going easier to a degree with this book as we were spared the 'late reveals' that really affected how I was able to digest the first part. Having fewer surprises was actually a GOOD thing! The book is once again VERY imaginative and the character development is much clearer than before. However, there is still the sheer amount of things going on around us that just wanted me to scream 'slow down' over and over! Sure, we examine a few key parts of the book in minute detail but others just get the quick glance-by. Oh and I will publicly state for the record that I am sick and tired of the gdamn 'Ready Player One' approach to how humanity will ultimately evolve. Over it. Done. Oh and the unneeded 'Dear Penthouse Forum' scenes do nothing to help. Wow, oral sex. Neato.

OK, but enough chitchat. "War Star" is a quick!! read with a lot of promise. Overall, I'm two books into Clay's 'career' now and I will say he's got potential. He could use with a much better editor, including one that keeps him from slipping in today's reality (last time it was the 'swipe right' dating app analogy) and keeps him more focused, even if it requires breaking down the book into more digestible parts. I just can't shake the feeling that he's trying to get every idea he EVER had into these relatively short books and at least for this reader, that's really detracting from the positive aspects! I don't want a 'Star Wars (note order there) Cliff Notes', I want a saga with clear episodes! Think big, dream big, execute big!

Let's see how book 3 goes, even if I couldn't find a single target date for release yet.

Great series

Love the lead characters, plot and battles. Great first person perspective story telling. Read first two books in a row and can’t wait for next one
