Damn Wright

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author Skye Jordan, the second in a sexy new series set in Nashville, The Wrights.

There is no story too risky for foreign correspondent Dylan Wright. Not until the same reckless drive that shot him to the top of his career also cost him his best friend’s life. Shattered by the loss, Dylan returns home to fulfill his friend’s last request—for Dylan to reconnect with his family and do right by the woman he left behind. But the love he thought lost all those years ago returns with a vengeance, and the only assignment he’s interested in now is a second chance at first love.

Emma Reeves is a survivor. Even the trauma of losing the love of her life couldn’t crush her desire to become a doctor. Engaged to a successful surgeon and weeks away from finishing her residency, Emma’s path is set. Until the man who broke her heart resurfaces with an offer too good to refuse. Now, Emma is forced to choose between two dreams—the one that saved her all those years ago, and the one that ripped her world apart.

Now, wait !! Didn't I read this book yesterday ??? Oh no! I think it was the same story, just the cover and the title were different !!🤦‍♀️
......................

"He hadn’t been able to return the papers either. He’d tried. He really had. He’d automatically destroyed the first set. Had started to sign the second set, but only managed to get his first name down. Had actually fully signed the third set and carried them with him, intending to mail them back, but ultimately burned them over a sink in a hotel room.

"Somehow, returning those papers made it seem like he was okay with the divorce. He knew she deserved to be set free. In the deepest part of him, he was happy she’d moved on, done all she was meant to do, become all she was meant to be. He just couldn’t bring himself to say he’d made peace with letting her go."

"She’d waited four years before finally filing the papers without his signature. She could have been divorced in six months if she’d just gone ahead and filed on her own. During those years, he’d clung to the glimmer of hope that they could make a new start once he’d fully recovered. After what he’d put her through, he didn’t dare ask for her forgiveness until he was sure he could be all he’d promised. She deserved nothing less."

"But he’d waited too long."
................

“The guy you always watch on the news. What in the hell was he talking about? Your husband?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because it was another lifetime. Long before I met you.”

“You didn’t see the point of telling me you’d been married before? I can’t believe this. You’re obsessed with him.”

Jesus Christ.“That’s ridiculous.”

“I can’t get within ten feet of the remote when he’s on the fucking screen.” Liam swung an arm toward the truck. Emma felt heat rise to her cheeks. “Now I know why. I guess he’s also the reason you’ve been dragging your feet with me.”
..................

“I had to hire three different attorneys skilled in dealing with divorce over international lines and investigators to track you down. Evidently, there’s a mountain of red tape involved in having a US citizen served a lawsuit overseas. I had to take out a personal loan to pay them all, and I’m already drowning in school loans.”

.................

“I was in a coma for three weeks. Wasn’t expected to live. When I regained consciousness, the prognosis was bad. Really bad. They said I’d never walk again. Never write again. Broke my pelvis, my femur, ribs. I had a severe concussion, was burned over thirty percent of my body, mostly in my midsection.”

“Emma… God, Emma was beside me the entire time. She was at my bedside, holding my hand when I came out of the coma. She took a semester off school and stayed with me in the hospital night and day. When she did go back to school, she brought her work and did it at my bedside. She never left until I was asleep, and she was always there when I woke—”

“She borrowed money from her parents to bring in specialist after specialist for second, third, fourth opinions. Researched my issues relentlessly. She never lost hope, even when it was nowhere in sight. But over time, it became crystal clear my future would be short, painful, and extremely limited.”

“Jesus Christ,” she murmured.

“Once I saw the writing on the wall, I knew I had to let her go. But I didn’t know I’d be in for such a fight. She was determined to stand by me, no matter what. And I was determined not to chain her to my bleak future.”

“Oh, Dylan. You didn’t.”

“I did.” The reality still stung like a thousand hornets. “The only way I could get her to leave was to break her heart. I told her I didn’t love her, told her to go away and, when even that didn’t work, I banned her from my hospital room.”

“Ah, Christ, Dylan, you’re killin’ me.”

He nodded. “Killed me too. And, you know, even when they moved me to an extended-care facility, she still came every fucking day for an entire year. She sat out in the lobby for hours, studying, hoping…believing…I’d change my mind. My nurses used to beg me to see her.”

“I was determined to get well, get on my feet, make something of myself, and return to Emma whole. Or as whole as humanly possible. Unfortunately, by the time I had my shit together, she was in medical school.”

“And you were a foreign correspondent.”

“What about you? Are you seeing anyone?”

“Nah. Emma was my One. My Only.”
....................

“I guess I saw staying overseas as a sort of penance.”

.....................

"He covered her hands with his and threaded their fingers. Dylan had occasionally found a woman overseas to ease the pain of Emma’s absence. Sometimes another journalist, sometimes a civilian in a support role with the military. But those fleeting nights had always been out of need, not love. Not even affection."

“I’d loveto tell you I never slept with anyone else—”

She looked away. “I would never expect—”

“What I can tell you is that you that my heart has always been yours. That never changed. That will never change.”
..........................

The funny thing is that he did not have the dignity to sign the return of the divorce papers that he wanted when he expelled her but had no problem "sleeping" with other women ???? When he said that SHE WAS HIS ONE AND ONLY I swear I heard the trumpets in the sky sound but no, it was just the same hypocrisy as always! "I always belonged to her with my heart and soul, but my dick was out of the picture." Yes!!! A penance of epic proportions for him, isn't it?🤦‍♀️🤢
And the current fiancé was the villain for not paying her bills? And the accounts she acquired trying to find the ex ?? And the fiance had no right to be upset that she said she was once married while it was obvious that she was still pining for her ex after he was gone for 8 FKING YEARS WITHOUT A WORD ??? And after the fact that he discarded her like garbage and never had the decency to apologize, do you think he had to grovel a lot ?? HA. HA. HA! NOOOOOOOP! And as icing on the cake to complete the couple's happy ending she had to give up her dreams after all a little more sexism cannot be left aside.🙄😒😒😒

Eight years have gone by since Dylan Wright threw his wife, Emma, out of his life. As a foreign correspondent badly burned and injured he knew his recovery would he long and arduous and his wife had plans to become a doctor. He felt he was doing the right thing by letting her go, but he also knows he’ll never find another one like her.

Dylan and Emma are brought back together when he returns home to spend time with his sisters and finds that despite their divorce he owns half of a house that Emma’s aunt gave them as a wedding gift. The house is a mess and Dylan is determined to spend time with Emma so he offers to put money into renovating it so they can sell it for more money and Emma can pay off her student loans something he promised he would help with years ago.

I liked these two a lot and it was easy to feel their connection throughout even when Emma was denying they had one. What I didn’t like was that despite everything they’d been through in the past, they still had issues with communication something you’d think they would learn was crucial after all they’d been through previously.

I loved watching Dylan with his sisters and his nephew and was happy to see them all repairing their relationship and getting to know one another as the adults they’ve become.

Damn Wright is a strong, solid, and thoroughly enjoyable second chance at love story.

Damn Wright, book 2 in The Wrights trilogy, is a really terrific second chance romance. I have to admit though, I almost didn't make it through the prologue- talk about heartbreaking! But I'm so glad I persevered because I ended up really enjoying this story. Dylan and Emma were meant to be and I'm so happy they found their way back together.

I can't blame Emma for being leery about Dylan, after the way he ended things between them. I'm not sure I could easily forgive something like that either. But I liked Dylan's persistence to win Emma back. There's a fine line that's easily crossed when it comes to showing a hero trying to win back his love, between being determined and being outright stalkerish, and I appreciated how Ms. Jordan was able to keep Dylan on the good side of that line!

I really enjoyed seeing Emma and Dylan reconnect and work their way back to each other. Even though years had gone by, and as much as Emma had tried to move on, you could just tell they had never truly given up on the other. I do love a good second chance romance, and Dylan and Emma's story was an emotional, heartfelt one that left me happily swooning!

*I have not read the first book in this series, So Wright, but that in no way affected my enjoyment of this story. I think Emma and Dylan's love story can definitely stand on its own.

I liked it. Dylan made a big mistake when he was young and he owned it. And I like some groveling as much as the next girl. :) Emma didn't forgive him right away, witch I aprecciate, since the heroine is always way too forgiving in this books. I can hold a health grudge and I always think the heroine should do the same, because it is usually so easy for the guy to just come back like nothing happened.
I thought the fiancé would play a bigger role in the book, but he didn't, which I thought it was kind of weird that he fell off the face of the earth. I think a little more OM drama would add to the story but it was good.
Emma irritated me a little with her indecision regarding her professional life, and I thought she was making the right decision, even though she wanted to change her mind there at the end. I thought it would be nice if he just said he would wait for her while she followed her dreams. It all worked out for the best, though. ** spoiler alert ** And I understand the author, since they had already lost years of their life together.

For Dylan and Emma love is about living truth, even when the world crashes down around you. Damn Wright is a tale of courage that is shadowed by pain, guided by strength and consumed by love. Jordan immerses readers in a romance unlike any other. From tragedy to triumph the emotions are intense enough to swallow you whole, but captivating enough to uplift your soul.

Eight year separation:::Dylan’s been posted in Syria as a war correspondent, returning to Nashville following the death of his friend, Amir…and his promise to mend fences, decompress and find absolution.

After living in places where running water was an extravagance, he feels an intense sense of shame for having come from wealth.

“I was working as a freelance writer at the time,” he said, “and I got a gig with the German tourism board. They were working on a promotional piece. On the way home, the guy driving fell asleep, and the car went over a cliff. The SUV rolled down the granite face of this massive boulder, finally landed on a ledge, and caught fire. The guys I was with didn’t make it. They died on impact. I was airlifted to the closest trauma center. To be honest, I don’t remember much of the accident. I was in a coma for three weeks. Wasn’t expected to live. When I regained consciousness, the prognosis was bad. They said I’d never walk again. Never write again. Broke my pelvis, my femur, ribs. I had a severe concussion, was burned over thirty percent of my body, mostly in my midsection.”

Emma remained by his side, offering comfort and support when he regained consciousness. She took off a semester from school and stayed at the hospital. When she returned to school, she brought her work and did it at his bedside. She never left whilst he was asleep, and she was always there when he was awake...she borrowed money from her parents to bring in specialists for second, third and fourth opinions. Earnestly researching his issues and she never lost hope. It became crystal clear his recovery was bleak and challenging.

“The only way I could get her to leave was to break her heart. I told her I didn’t love her, told her to go away and, when that didn’t work, I banned her from my hospital room. My nurses begged me to see her. I won, which ultimately meant I lost. Everything. She came home, moved back in with her parents, finished her bachelor’s degree.”

“And you were a foreign correspondent.”
“That is the most gut-wrenching story I’ve ever heard in my entire life.” She blew out a breath. “How are you now? What kinds of issues do you have from the accident?”
“Neuropathy, mostly. The burns damaged my nervous system, so I’m always in some level of pain. I’ve got a bunch of plates and pins all over my body. The only part of me without a scar is my face. But I was relentless about physical therapy, and it’s made a real difference. I’ve also found some great alternative, holistic pain management methods that work for me.

Dylan vanished from Emma’s life. She’d remained in Germany after his accident, where they’d met, married, and lived after their military fathers were deployed. An entire year passed after he’d told her to go back to the States. Dylan had remained off the radar. Four years ago, he’d materialised reporting on news channels as a foreign correspondent.

Her last note to him:::
“I never thought I’d be writing this letter. I believed with all my heart we’d be together forever. But when the going got tough, you dropped out. I’ve given you two previous chances to own your decision and sign divorce papers, but you couldn’t even do that. Our life together has been over for years, and it’s time for me to move on. If I don’t receive these papers back within two months, I’ll go through with the divorce without them, as allowed by Tennessee law. I wish you well. Stay safe. Emma”.

Emma waited four years before filing divorce papers without his signature, she could have been divorced in six months without the courtesy.

He’d automatically destroyed the first set of papers, started to sign the second only managing to write his first name and had fully signed the third set carrying them around on him, but burnt them over a hotel room sink. He hadn’t been able to do it. For years, he’d clung to the hope that they could make a fresh start once he’d fully recovered. He’d waited too long.

They met in Germany when their fathers were stationed together. Started dating at sixteen, got married at nineteen and were married six months when he has his accident.

Her best friend Maizey offers pearls of wisdom:::
“Why are you marrying him?”What’s Liam sacrificing? Because I see you sacrificing your family and your safety and your happiness by moving to Baltimore. You don’t wear your ring. You haven’t set a date. You refuse to start planning a wedding. You avoid looking for dresses. You won’t move in with him. He doesn’t support your dream of working with Doctors Without Borders. He’s moving you away from your family to a place you hate—”

He blindsides her in the hospital car park where she unleashes her fury on him.
“Eight years after you said you never wanted to see me again.”
“You have every right to turn away—”
“Eight years without a word, and poof—here you are.”

“As soon as I can sell Aunt Shelly’s house, I’ll send you your half of the money”
“Emma, I don’t know what you’re talking about. And I don’t want your money.”
“You didn’t have to fly across the globe for this. You could have just called or emailed or sent a letter. Unlike you, I would have responded.”

Next morning Emma agrees to meet Dylan to discuss the terms of selling the home deeded to them.

“If you could follow through on contacting him, I would really appreciate it, I had to hire three different attorneys skilled in dealing with divorce over international lines and investigators to track you down. Evidently, there’s a mountain of red tape involved in having a US citizen served a lawsuit overseas. I had to take out a personal loan to pay them all, and I’m already drowning in school loans.”

Liam, her fiancé had given her a twenty-five-thousand-dollar ring, drove a seventy-thousand-dollar car, but had done nothing about her school loans. Her future husband should have shared the burden of her financial stress.

He arrives at the coffee shop and Dylan announces their past relationship. They’re engaged, yet she withheld that she’s a divorcée and claims it was another lifetime before she met him, who does that? Her fiancé, Liam, confronts her accusing her of delaying tactics.

“You won’t move in with me. You won’t make any plans for the wedding. You won’t even meet my goddamned parents, who came into town especially to meet you.”
“You’re making a much bigger deal out of this than it is. I haven’t seen or spoken to him in eight years.”
“Yet here he is. Why? What were you two talking about?”
“We were discussing Aunt Shelly’s house because he and I are both on the title. I didn’t even remember until Aunt Shelly died and Mom and I were going through her financial papers.”
“You’ve had six months to tell me about this? While we’ve been engaged? If I agree to this, I want a wedding date. Right now. No more stalling.”
“We’re both starting new jobs soon—”
“Right. Now.”
“And you come meet my parents now.”
“Those are my terms,” Liam said. “I won’t say a word about you working on that house with the ex-husband I didn’t even know about if you set a date for our wedding and meet my parents.”
“Terms?”
“You’ve never been mine, have you? You’ve never been all-in. Not even when you said you’d marry me. Not even when I put that ring on your finger. This is your chance to prove me wrong.”
“I shouldn’t have to prove anything to you.”
“I guess that’s all I need to know.”

She admits keeping secrets from Liam to her Mum, resulting in the dissolution off their engagement.

Her aunt had a whole case of red in the coat closet and their drinking directly from the bottle conjured up images of rodents scurrying around on the neck of these bottles.

We knew in his ‘tortured’ regret he certainly didn’t lack female company especially since he wanted to start afresh with Emma (insert sarcasm). He knew he needed Emma more than his next breath so he found physical release in convenient arrangements.

“Weren’t any of these journalists you hooked up with special?” He was surprised by her directness and annoyed at his own self-loathing.
“That’s not what I meant when I said hooked up. But no. There hasn’t been anyone special.”
Dylan had occasionally found a woman overseas to ease the pain of Emma’s absence (a forced absence). Sometimes another journalist, sometimes a civilian in a support role with the military. But those fleeting nights had always been out of need, not love...not even affection. It hadn’t been often. He couldn’t even remember how long it had been since he’d had sex.

A story of healing, forgiveness and accountability.

Wow this book was full of intense emotions of forgiveness and trust. It's a second chance romance between a formerly married couple and the mistakes made at a young age. How can a couple who have such magnetic physical chemistry get past 8 years of separation since Dylan pushed Emma away? He proves to her she's the most important person in his life and he won't live without her.

There is so much in this book about youthful decisions, consequences, trust & love. Skye handles it all with a master's touch. I was sucked into the story rooting for Dylan and hurting for Emma. You can tell Skye's lived a life of learning because the wisdom that comes from Emma's mother Debbie in this story is spot on. The resolution of the story was perfection.

Dylan Wright is a foreign correspondent who seems to be a daredevil when it comes to covering war torn countries. He returns home When his best friend Amir, a Syrian journalistic "fixer" dies in his arms he made a promise to him to come home and make things right with Emma, his former wife. He still loves her but pushed her away after 6 months of marriage when he was almost killed and badly burned in a car accident. He expected to be disabled forever but he pushed through and recovered to become a top shelf imbedded journalist. He stayed away from his family of two half-sisters and Emma as penance for his mistakes. Gypsy and Miranda are overjoyed to have him home and rebuild their relationships but Emma is not.

Emma Reeves put herself through med school, has 3 weeks left of her residency and is engaged to surgeon Liam Parnell when she sees Dylan again. She's overwhelmed by emotions at seeing her soul mate once again. She's never managed to let him go in her heart or forgive him for pushing her away. They need closure. She finally realizes that though rich & successful Liam is narcissistic and doesn't really love her. He's not interested in helping her pay her debts or helping her clean up and sell the house her Great aunt Shelly left her. Dylan wants her back and he's willing to move mountains to do it including cleaning up the house and remodeling it so her school debts can be paid when it sells. He does so much more to prove to her she's number one in his life now.

This book is so good and emotional. My heart went out to Dylan and Emma in so many different ways. I can understand Dylan sending Emma away when he was hurt so bad in an accident, and never thought he would be whole again. But my heart went out to Emma on how much it crushed her. Dylan is a journalist that has gone through some of the worst nightmare times I could never imagine. I don’t think he ever realized what staying away from Emma and his family did to them until he came home. Dylan never stopped loving Emma, and I admired him for doing all he can to show Emma and his family how sorry he is. I can understand how Emma doesn’t feel like she can trust him to never leave her again. Emma is such a stubborn person and has so many decisions about her life to make. This book has so much heart in it and pulled my heart into so many situations. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

This is a great second chances novel. It starts off with an explosive first scene that changes the main character, Dylan. He matures and finds out what's most important in life is love and family. He comes home looking to reconnect with the one woman he has always loved.

Emma is working as a nurse and she's just lost he Aunt. She has to renovate her house so it can be sold for more money. She is looking for someone to do the work when Dylan shows up. She doesn't believe he will be around for long so she is just living her life.

Dylan does stick around and in the end he surprises her.

Quick Review:

Trope-tastic: Second chance romance. Divorced couple.
Five words or less: Second chances and new beginnings
Main Characters: Dylan is a foreign correspondent, ready to face the mistakes of his past. His biggest was letting his wife go. He needs to convince her that he's all-in this time, in the hopes that she'll give their love a second chance.
Emma is an ER Physician nearing the end of her residency. She's got big dreams and big plans for her future, including a fiance. She'll have to overcome her fears and decide if she can risk her heart again to the man that broke it so badly before.
Ah, Romance: What I can tell you is that my heart has always been yours. That never changed. That will never change." - Dylan to Emma
Format: Digital ARC

My thoughts: I enjoyed the general story-line, and was very interested in seeing how Dylan and Emma could navigate the waters of their relationship, especially given their careers. I appreciated the heartfelt discussions about their past, but felt as though Dylan didn't quite do enough in the beginning to earn back Emma's trust. His heart was in the right place, but some of his actions (like using their attraction to his benefit) had me thinking that if this were anything other than a second-chance romance, I'd be wishing the heroine would move on. He sort of steam-rolled the relationship and I connected with Emma's concerns about allowing him to influence her decisions. That being said, she was her own worst enemy in being unable to figure out what she ultimately wanted, and I did tire a bit of her endless "I love him but I can't trust him" inner dialogue. While I'd have loved to see a resolution a little sooner in the story, the epilogue more than sealed their happily ever after! Dylan got Emma & Emma didn't have to choose between Dylan and her dream. Dylan and Emma were a great team, and I'm hoping we'll see more of this adventurous couple in future books.

Oh, goodness; this one was so good!

Though I have to admit, Ms Jordan waited until literally the last minute to give us that HEA, and I was...concerned, shall we say? Good grief, reading was supposed to be my stress reliever today...

But I digress.

Dylan and Emma's second chance romance was a lovely story. Trying to sell a romance as a second chance is always tricky--it didn't work out the first time, why should we believe the second time will take?--but here Ms Jordan did an excellent job of showing us exactly how the two of them have grown and changed since their first attempt (underlined by a conversation between Emma and her BBF toward the end, just in case you didn't get it before ;)) and the epilogue leaves us feeling all kinds of happy feels. Exactly what I needed this week, thank you!

I also loved seeing Dylan's siblings again--their dynamic is so much fun--and cannot wait until Gypsy gets her book! (And not just because there will be even more of baby Cooper in it than was in Dylan's, honest...)

If you haven't read Miranda's book yet ( So Wright ), not a problem--Dylan's would work fine as a standalone. Truly, though, I love these siblings--do yourself a favor and read the series!

From the very first few sentences, this story grabbed my attention and did not let go. Admittedly, I have a soft spot for our troops or anyone who puts themselves in the line of fire so that I may be well-informed about world events or “free” to do as I please.

Dylan Wright is in northern Syria, chasing a story as a war correspondent, but he is really searching and fighting to get to the truth. Sometimes that truth is ugly but he wants the world to know what is going on in these war-torn countries. As a reader, the interaction with his friend, Amir, is heart wrenching, hard to read, but oh so fulfilling.

Dylan heads “home”, or at least where his sisters live, to reunite with the family he left behind many, many years ago. His “homecoming” made me love him all the more…and his sisters are just what he needs to start healing his psyche and his soul. He meets up, once again, with Emma…and his world starts to make sense again.

I can’t tell you much more than this because I could call them spoilers but really, you need to experience this story, and all its feelings (for lack of a better word), for yourself as you read. It is hard for both Emma AND Dylan but family helps them see how good life can be if they open up to each other and work on healing themselves.

Great read, totally pulled me into the story, and I’m hoping there will be more of the Wright Family saga to read!

Talk about pulling in your heart strings! Skye Jordan managed to break my heart and bring tears to my eyes in just the first chapter!
Damn Wright is a well written novel about second chances, love reborn, and realizing what really matters.
Dylan Wright is a strong man who has seen the darker side of life. He comes home to reconnect with his family and reconnect with life in general. He knows what he wants now and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get it. And what he wants, is Emma.
Emma is a survivor! She survived a broken heart, med school, and a residency in a busy ER. She just wasn't expecting the reason for her heart break to come back into her life.
Life wasn't easy for either of them while they were apart, however Emma has started a new life for herself and there is no room in it for Dylan and the dreams she wants to follow. But Dylan isn't giving up. He knows their love is the "once in a lifetime" kind of love and he will fight for her. But trying to convince someone they still love you, even when they don't want to, is a battle. Dylan is willing to risk everything for love, but Emma doesn't trust him to not break her heart again. She knows if it breaks this time, she won't be able to put herself back together.
Is Emma willing to take the risk? Can Dylan prove her wrong?
I genuinely loved this book! It was heartfelt, tear-jerking and had many "awe" moments.

What an amazing couple that truly had to fight through intense hurt and betrayal to even be willing to try for a second chance at love. Dylan and Emma were happily married until an accident leaves Dylan broken with a bleak prognosis to be whole again. He does the unthinkable and pushes Emma away believing she deserves better than a broken man. He goes own to pursue his passion as a journalist, covering the most horrific stories in dangerous conditions. When he loses a good friend, he finds himself returning home to reconnect with his family and just maybe, to get another chance with Emma. Emma was shattered by Dylan but she found a way to push forward and pursue her passion in medicine. Finishing her residency, she never expects to see Dylan on her doorstep and is shocked when he actually apologizes. They find themselves co-owners of a house that she really needs to sell to help payoff her student loans. Dylan takes on the task of fixing up the house which keeps him in contact with Emma. The love is still there, you can feel it between these two, but how do you rebuilt the trust and push away all the hurt. I enjoyed every heart-pounding moment of this journey. They are two passionate people driven to pursue their dreams. They kept me guessing to the end as to how their story would end. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I love reunion stories and that is what DAMN WRIGHT by Skye Jordan is all about. Emma and Dylan married young, separated young, but are once again living in the same town eight years later and their chemistry is absolutely undeniable. What I loved most about this story is the strength of each character.

Dylan and Emma are characters I fell in love with easily. From their struggles and emotional pain to what they were doing to rise up from the past, I was rooting for them! I kept flipping pages because I wanted to see their own stories unfold in addition to their romance. I mean, they had to get back together, right? But how was it going to happen?

Jordan always takes me on such a fantastic journey in her books and this was no different. From the hatred and suffering in Syria to Somalia. Her characters have such depth and her plots are unique and interesting. Her writing and pace flows so well that sometimes I can't read it fast enough. DAMN WRIGHT is like that throughout. Once I started, I finished the book in just a couple of days!

If you are looking for an contemporary romance story with an engaging plot, smart characters with unbelievable passion, and heartwarming family reunions, give DAMN WRIGHT a try.

I’m new to Skye Jordan’s books and Damn Wright didn’t disappoint!

Dylan Wright is a foreign correspondent who has been away for 8 years. After the loss of his best friend, he returns home to reconnect with his family and his former wife, Emma. He’s never forgotten Emma and hopes he can get her back. During this time, Emma has become a doctor and recently become engaged. She’s ready to move on and achieve her own dreams.

This sweet, emotional second chance story was a great read. You feel both Dylan and Emma’s pain over the breakup of their marriage and understand Emma’s cautiousness about trying again. I was definitely cheering for them to find their happily ever after. Their heartwarming HEA has to be one of my favorites. I’m a fan of strong, independent female characters like Emma. Their HEA honors them as a couple as well as Emma’s independence.

Fans of the Wright series will enjoy glimpses into Miranda and Gypsy’s lives. I’m looking forward to Gypsy and Wyatt’s story!

Thank you to the author for providing me with an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book so much! This is a wonderfully written emotional second chance love story about two amazing people who want to make a difference in the world. Dylan and Emma were married very young but after a horrible accident occurs Dylan pushed Emma away. Now in what seems like a lifetime later especially for Dylan, can they possibly find their way back to the happy they had before now that he is back all these years later? Or was the damage done in the past irreparable? Despite the physical chemistry that is obviously still there, are Emma and Dylan even in the same place mentally and emotionally now? Dylan has seen so much devastation in his job as a foreign news correspondent but he realizes after loosing someone dear to him how much he desperately needs to go back to his family and to try and win the heart back of the only woman he has ever loved. The man totally makes me swoon whenever he interacts with his nephew Cooper. Sigh. I was hanging by each moment hoping for the best and riding the roller coaster of emotions with these incredible characters until the very end! Just fantastic!!

Have you ever wanted a do-over? Well this is exactly what Dylan has been hoping for the last eight years. Unfortunately it took a tragedy for him to take the chance.

Even though he knows he has a lot to make up for with his family, his real target is Emma, his ex-wife. What he doesn’t anticipate is all the hurdles, including a fiancee to be in his way.

This book touches on a lot of subjects. The effects of war on innocent civilians, the brave men and women who volunteer to help those in need, as well as finding your own path in life.

As much as I didn’t want Emma to just take Dylan back, she was standing in her own way for the majority of the book. As much as she thought she had grown, she was still trapped in the past and couldn’t or wouldn’t recognize that Dylan had changed.

Dylan put it all out there. He had learned from his past mistakes and was an open book. I think his expectations were a little high, but his intentions were good.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

Second chance romance at its best!

Dylan Wright has been living out his dream of being an international correspondent, live from within the depths of hell known as the war in Syria. But when tragedy strikes and he makes a promise to his best friend, he finds himself back home in Tennessee to make amends with not only his sisters, but also to try to win back the love of the wife he pushed away eight long years ago.

I loved every minute of Dylan and Emma’s story. Married at a very young age, these two thought they would be together forever...until they weren’t. My heart broke for these two over and over again. Emma had held out hope for so long for Dylan to come back to her and when she’s finally given up, he’s suddenly back in her life. You can’t help but root for them. Even after eight long years, you can still feel their magnetic pull to each other and feel their love jump off the pages. I’m loving this series so far and I cannot wait for Gypsy’s book!

This author certainly knows how to pull every emotion from you.
Let me just start this review with a “OMG! The Prologue nearly destroyed me!” Wow, what a way to start book 2 of The Wrights series.

I found this book to be more of a slow burn vs the first book which was more ‘hot’ at first sight, but the emotional storyline needed it.

Dylan and Emma have a ‘past’, major events in their life’s have had an impact on both them going separate ways and also bringing them back together, we see the rawness of their emotions, the battle to find their way back, and the love they both have for each other.

This is a great read, well developed characters & a intriguing storyline that kept me engrossed way past my bedtime.

I loved catching up with some of the characters from book 1, and I’m hoping we got a glimpse of Gypsy’s love interest too, sounds like Gypsy is going to get help whether she likes it or not lol

Great series so far, this author never disappoints.

Dylan is a foreign correspondent, living his life on the edge covering stories in war torn countries. He didn’t think he would ever return home, but to fulfill his dying best friends wish he not only returns home but also reconnects with his family and Emma.
Emma and Dylan were married once upon a time, but he forced Emma to leave him after he was badly injured in an accident. Now years later he is back and hoping for a second chance.
Emma is a successful ER doctor and engaged to be married. Is there any hope for reconciliation between them ?
This was a very emotional read for me. The prologue itself shook me up with the emotions it evoked. The romance between Dylan and Emma was heart wrenching at the same time heartwarming. I felt Emma’s anguish on missing out so many years and loved Dylan’s perseverance on wooing her. A very well written book with some wonderful characters that I really enjoyed reading.

I was riveted to Damn Wright from the opening scene. It was explosive (literally) fraught with danger and heartwrenching. This love story is about rekindling a love that was broken by a man who felt a hopelessness that may never be resolved. Now with the wisdom of age he recognizes the errors in his thinking and is determined to find a measure of peace if nothing else.

Dylan Wright is war weary and it's time for him to regroup. Time to go home. Time for family. Time to make apologies and amends. Emily Reeves is at a crossroads in her life. She can't seem to move forward because her heart is stuck in the past. Whether she admits it or not. She has dreams but can't seem to find a way to make them happen. When Dylan invades her life again, he really unsettles her. She doesn't want to trust him or care about him or let him in. He says all the right things but that doesn't mean history won't repeat itself. It's time for tough decisions and ii may be inevitable that someone will be hurt.

To say this story gutted me is an understatement. This is a second chance story where neither wanted to part in the first place but circumstances made them part. Dylan Wright is a foreign corespondent who has been in the thick of things for too long. He has lost the closest person to him and is made to make a promise to go after the woman who wrote the note that’s been in his pocket for years. He comes home to do that and he discovers his sisters forgiveness and so much more. Emma has tried to move on from Dylan. She’s engaged, planning to move and achieve her dreams. Something is missing.
I had so many moments in this book where I had become so emotional. Dylan had a no holds barred job which made him an excellent reporter. He had nothing to lose until he did. His development through this book was so amazing to watch. Emma’s emotional roller coaster is heartbreaking but so worth the ride.

Second Chance of the Heart

I love a great romance and second chance romance pulls at my heartstrings! This one is no different. These characters have a history that makes it difficult for them to walk away, but even more difficult for them to forget the pain that was caused.

Dylan walked away from his life and Emma after his life took some unexpected turns. He felt he was doing the right thing and needed to allow Emma to move forward with her life.

Emma has worked hard to establish her career and she isn't ready to have her world turned upside down with the return of Dylan. But his return changes things and makes her rethink where she is at in her life. And forces her to make some hard choices.

These two did not have an easy go and they have to to work to get to the Second Chance. Their struggle draws you in to their pain and joy.

I truly love these two together. It is a great addition to the series.

Damn Wright continues The Wright Series with Dylan as the main focus. After leaving his wife and going to live out his dreams of becoming a foreign news correspondent Dylan does not expect much when he returns home to Nashville. Emma has become a successful ER doctor and has moved on from Dylan. She is engaged to Liam and plans to follow him when her residency ends. When Dylan shows up at the hospital all of her old feelings and fears return. You can tell from the very start of the book the move these 2 characters have for one another. You can also tell the fear that Emma has grown to live with from loving this man who walked out on her. I love how Skye Jordan made Emma not only a strong woman who had to make choices for herself but a woman who was not just going to jump back into Dylan's arms and bed.

I absolutely loved the first 2 books in The Wrights Series and can not wait to see what happens in the next book with Gypsy and her son Cooper.
