This time Nameless has to help a disfigured woman, Regina Belmont. She and her children were at the wrong place at the wrong time. An arsonist took care of a building, her children died. Will the arsonist meet his fate by the hand of Nameless? Another compelling adventure with our nameless hero, but some repetitive elements disturbed the reading pleasure. We know he suffers from amnesia and that he's a clairvoyant, has visions and can be without mercy. Those references are used like text modules. Otherwise a very dark story with a great avenger. Liked it and can recommend this book too!

Red Rain (Nameless: Season One #4)
by Dean Koontz,, Edoardo Ballerini (Narrator)

Every one of the titles and covers in this series seem to really fit each of the short stories. Fire is the weapon of the predator this time and he has people who pay for his services who are just as guilty as he is for the horrific deeds he inflicts on victims, whether on purpose or as collateral damage. Nameless usually meets up with a victim or someone from their family and Nameless is the only way the predators will face the fate they deserve. Once again, pieces of the past (or are they the future) keep coming to Nameless. He knows he's running from something but he doesn't want to remember.

A Kindle Unlimited audiobook short story following a vigilante nomad, stripped of his memories and commissioned to kill.

People drunk with power don’t believe in justice except as a word in one slogan or another. They despise the truth,”

This is a short story by Dean Koontz. It’s been years since I’ve read any of his work and when I did, I didn’t like the book at all. Hence I decided to give this short story a try and loved it.

“Nameless” is a character who I presume is some sort of “fixer”, vigilante and hit man, rolled into one.

In this story he is investigating a fire in which children died.

Won’t say anymore, other than I really liked it and will try a full book.

Rating: Good

Genre: Thriller

Red Rain is the fourth installment of the Nameless series. The series, in general, is about a vigilante who has amnesia and cannot remember his past or even his name. He is recruited by a mysterious company to hunt criminals and serial killers. In each book, Nameless has to face a new criminal.

Red Rain is about justice deliverance. Regina Belmont is the mother of two children. Her house has been set on fire. She is now disfigured and abandoned by her husband. The officials of the town are corrupt and they silenced her by constant bullying. Nameless will handle her case and delivers justice to the woman. Like the previous stories in the series, this one was quite entertaining too. The interesting thing here the short vague flashbacks that Nameless was getting about his own past. So far all the books that I have read in this series were consistently good.

Fast paced but somehow seemed to flow by!

Another one-sit listen (or read). This one is more fast paced than the previous three and in my opinion not as good. I’d give this a 3.5 rounded up only because of it fitting in with the series and continuing on with the storyline.

A multi-perspective novella, we go on a journey of redemption of sorts. This time it’s not so black and white and I actually found myself pondering what we consider “justice”. The way the author deepens this story into more than just entertainment made it a god change of pace for me.

Passes the time quite nicely when I’m multitasking as a free audiobook on kindle.

Going with 3/3.5 stars with this addition to the series!

Red Rain is the 4th book in the Nameless series.
I felt like this is the weakest one of the stories so far but it was still entertaining. This short story was too short for me (ha!) and I wanted more information on the arsonist and his cohorts.

I think if Dean Koontz had gotten into the inner workings of the arsonist, or even wrote a chapter or two showing us the arsonist in the act of starting a fire, I would have been more invested in the story and characters.
Make me hate these evil assholes!

Red Rain is about Regina Belmont, a mother who was burned in a fire and her children died that night when a fire destroyed a bookstore and the apartments above it.
She's been threatened to stay silent about the fire. Corrupt officials are tired of her making noise.

Nameless and his shadow organization of justice decide to destroy the arsonist that caused this fire, along with all the others that he gets paid to start.

Nameless is also having more memories of his past and the people in his past. He's had amnesia for two years.

I'm looking forward to reading more about this amnesia plot and how Nameless got involved with this shadow organization. I hope it gets resolved in the last two books of the series!

There's never an excuse for arson. As with all the stories in this series. Truth always matters and justice is a interpreted concept.

This is a short story series that tells the story about a man named Nameless. He is backed by a mysterious agency that is carrying out justice on people who have committed heinous crimes and got away with it.

If you have read the series in order (which I strongly recommend) you know what you are getting here. Basically, there is nothing new here. This time we deal with a hired arsonist that doesn't care if people are killed while performing his jobs. The series is enjoyable and I like the idea of justice being served on people who got away with it. The problem at this point is it is a repeat of other short stories. When are we getting to the point of this series and finding out about Nameless and the agency behind this vigilante justice?

I like the story and I like the idea behind it. It just isn't a must read anymore because of the repetition of the stories. This is a strong statement from me as Dean Koontz has been my favorite for over thirty years and for me taking so long to complete this short story series says it all. I don't hate but I don't love it.

This one read as filler to me. We have even more repetitiveness regarding Nameless and the woman and two kids he keeps seeing. I hope that the next two do a bit better than this.

"Red Rain" has Nameless in a city that sounds like Chicago. He visits a woman who was left disfigured after someone set a fire that also killed her two children. Nameless asks her does she want the men responsible to die and she decides that she does. He quickly starts setting up all of the men involved.

Nameless is getting boring to me. Yes, I know you like to tip and it gives you pleasure to leave huge tips for people. Here's my question, isn't someone going notice some tall blond guy leaving $300 tips for a glass of wine? Anyway. His somewhat amnesia is becoming a bit boring now too. I wish we got to see more visions of Nameless, but this one there is nothing. So one wonders how he got pulled into this mission and why Ace of Diamonds got so interested.

Not too much to say about all of the bad guys in this one. They don't read like the prior serial killers. The main guy who loves and also fears fire needed a bit more developing I think.

The writing was repetitive and I just got bored. We get it, the woman he keeps seeing has purple/blue eyes which doesn't even sound real, but okay. The illustration for this one was pretty boring (just a kerosene can spilled over). The flow was fine though. This story moves really quickly to the somewhat lackluster ending.

Red Rain is a humane short story of a mother seeking retribution and justice. In the fourth book of the series, Nameless delivers Regina Belmont justice by taking revenge on those who set her home on fire and left her childless, disfigured, and without a husband who abandoned her, as he tries to remember what in this case is touching his heart in a such a sad way.

This one was quite enjoyable but too short (less than 50 pages).
I’m really enjoying this series.
I want to jump to next one but I’m almost falling asleep.

This time its an arsonist "Nameless" has to face and bring to justice..
Children are under the victims, and "Nameless" is tortured with visions and flashbacks which he cannot fully graps and remember!!!

In "Red Rain" further light is shed on the mysterious and enigmatic character of our heroe!!
A good series!!!

Koontz's Nameless short story series is reminescent of the serialized story that was found in periodicals like Harper's Bazaar and the Atlantic Monthly. Nameless is a dark knight sans cape who works for a mysterious corporation who issues directives for him to get the truth from evil people who have committed heinous crimes and have gotten away with them and then deliver an appropriate death commensurate with how they tortured their victims. The ongoing mystery in this series is that our dark hero is suffering from amnesia that seems to be medically induced with Nameless's approval to block out some excruciatingly painful event that happened two years previously. In true serialized story fashion we are given clues story by story and bit by bit as Nameless starts to get vague remembrances through short lived flashback visions. Stay tuned fellow Nameless fans and remain patient as the mystery unfolds.

“Justice is a human concept, as flawed as any. There is no reliable justice in this world and, given human nature, never can be. Politics, bigotry, envy, ignorance . . . Those forces and others redefine justice day by day, until it means something different to everyone—until it means nothing at all.”

This had Nameless pursuing an arsonist. The story had him not only entrapping the man, but also becoming more introspective about his visions.
The story meandered a bit until it reached the forgone conclusion.
Justice was served at the end.

finished this one yesterday...i think it was can't remember if it was in the treestand or maybe sitting in the truck there at the end of the road the broken glass road as my wife calls it good read five stars amazing kindle owned...and some of the highlights to track the theme:

“Everybody’s bought, and everything’s politicized. There’s no way to get the truth.”

“Justice is a human concept, as flawed as any. There is no reliable justice in this world and, given human nature, never can be. Politics, bigotry, envy, ignorance . . . Those forces and others redefine justice day by day, until it means something different to everyone—until it means nothing at all.”

“There’s hope, though not in justice. There’s hope in truth. A sea of lies can’t wash away a single grain of truth. Truth is what it is.”

“I want the truth to prevail. But you’re so well connected that all the evidence in the world won’t get the law to move against you. There’ll be no justice. But for you, at least, there will be the truth and its consequences.”

Those four men were responsible for many murders. That is a truth. They lie dead in a warehouse. That is another truth. Regina Belmont, now with her sister in another state, will think of it as justice. It is not justice. Justice has failed Some might call it vengeance. It is not that, either, because no relative or friend of those four men’s victims was involved in targeting them.

He thinks of it as the promise of high technology, which has democratized the search for evidence, so that any first-rate hacker can know what any law-enforcement agency knows

4 Stars ( Excellent)

Red Rain is part of a compelling, and highly addictive series by Dean Koontz- about a highly skilled 'killer' dubbed 'Nameless'. Nameless has retrograde amnesia and does not recall anything beyond 2 years prior. 'Nameless' is a highly skilled assassin, and he acts in 'vengeance' taking odd jobs from his handler, only in the name of 'revenge'. Each tale in these short, but fast paced novellas surround a different scenario where 'nameless' is involved to right a previous wrong. Here we have a pyromaniac setting blaze on properties and killing innocents...let's say 'nameless' is going to have fun with him! Each novella is more addictive than the previous ones, and are 'free' for those who have Amazon prime series. I've given the 'audiobooks' (also included in prime) a shot and they're a gem, and the entire collection is utterly irresistible!

It's my own fault.

Although the previous three books in this series have been entertaining and quick reads, certain aspects were beginning to wear on me (too much narrative summary, repetitiveness, easily defeated villains) and in this installment those elements were especially grating.

I see the appeal of these stories—the bad guys are rich and mean and Nameless helps exact poetic justice on them with the help of a mysterious, well connected group—but this one got a bit too cutesy with its scheme to defeat all the baddies, who were supposed to be threatening but ended up as jokey caricatures.

I suppose I should stop reading this series . . . but I've already downloaded the next one.
