Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
The Couple in Cabin 2124 by Steve Higgs is the 4th book in the Patricia Fisher Cruise Ship Mysteries series. A crew member commits suicide by jumping off the Aurelia, while thrusting a paper with the number 2124 into Patricia Fisher's hands and asking her to save Anna. A great mystery, where Patricia finally sees off her husband who agrees to divorce. She is joined by Jermaine and Barbie on her adventures as well as two elderly men and a Japanese taxi driver. Lots of fun as the gang are able to take down two Japanese crime families. A superb and crazy cozy mystery.
Such a fun romp set on a cruise ship with Mrs Patricia Fisher getting herself involved with two rival gangs in Tokyo, with her faithful butler and friends alongside
This is my favorite Patricia Fisher cruise Sip Cozy Mystery so fat, but I do love 1-3 that I have read. This has to be the most action-packed of all her books that I have read so far, and it never lets up. There are a lot of new characters. To start off her day early in the morning when they are getting closer to Japan, she decides to take a stroll around the ship on one of the higher decks,. She sees a man with a weight tied around his waist and has climbed out when he could jump overboard and it would be a suicide. Patricia tried to talk him out of it, but he says it is too late and he hands her a piece of paper with 2124 on it and asks her to try and save Anna and then he jumps. Patricia pushes the button close by that says man overboard and when ship Security arrives she gives the best description of the man she can. She doesn’t mention the note or save Anna to the guards that show up. So Patricia assumes 2124 is a cabin number and she gets Jermaine to go with her. There is a couple in the cabin that look unsavory, are covered with tattoos and have very foul mouths and have no idea who Anna is. They decide it must not stand for this cabin number. So she and Jermaine head back to her suite and Jermaine looks at the ships records for all Anna’s on board the ship and they can easily eliminate most of them. They then knock on the possible cabins and realize Anna is not on this ship. Then the ship docks in Tokyo. Barbie had originally told Patricia that she didn’t want to leave the ship. She had never been impressed or fond of Tokyo, then when Patricia’s husband Charlie shows up she decides to go as do Jermaine and 2 previous detectives from Los Angeles who are retired now and not in great shape. They move very slow. They take a cab and tells the driver to follow the cab that the foul mouthed couple had just got into. They end up in a seedy rundown part of Tokyo that is obviously ran by gangs, Much more action happens between then and the end of the book, but I don’t want to give away ant spoilers. Only hint is Patricia helps the Tokyo police do something they have wanted for a long time and as a reader, I was just as shocked as all of Patricia’s friends. This was book 4 of a set that I bought of books 1-4. I really loved it Steve Higgs keeps us involved and surprised throughout the entire book.
This is a fun cozy mystery that I really enjoyed. This is book four and the third book I have listened to but it won't be my last as the characters and the story line are so much fun. Each boom is a stand alone book so it doesn't matter if you listen to them out of order, but it is such a great series that you will probably want to listen to them all. I like the fact that it is set on a cruise ship and each story takes place in different locations and with the same crew on body you are bound to be listening to some familiar favourites, such as the teasing of Barbie or the ever reliable Jermaine. There was some highly amusing scenes that will have you chuckling as the investigation progress. The mystery itself was interesting and I liked the twist at the end. Looking forward to the next book. When Patricia is the only witness to a man jumping over board she has no choice but to follow the clues he gave her-a crumpled up note and the words save Anna. The problem is no body else saw him jump over board and the sceptical head of security is reluctant to look into the matter when no passenger comes forward missing a loved one.Patricia life is also complicated with the arrival of her ex husband who wants to pick up where they left off. The identification of the body leads Patricia into the seeded underside of Tokyo as she and her friends visit strip clubs of all places trying to save Anna. And with the ship about to leave port will they be able to do it in time? I liked the narrator. The author can't seem to decide which narrator should be the voice of Patricia and her friends because this is book 4 and this is the 3rd voice. In my opinion Heather Tracy is just perfect for the role with her great accents and nice easy manner.
While on a morning walk around the deck, Patricia Fisher spots a man who is about to jump. He hands her a note with the number 1024 written on it and his final words before he jumps are "Save Anna!"
Patricia has another unpleasant surprise awaiting her in Tokyo. She finds her husband, Charlie, in her cabin and he announces that he plans to remain on the ship with her. This doesn't sit well with Patricia, who has already decided to divorce him.
While in Tokyo, Patricia decides to see if she can find "Anna". In her search she becomes involved with two warring gangs of Japanese mobsters.
Book four in the series opens with Patricia witnessing a suicide, who pauses for long enough to give her a piece of paper and a very cryptic message. Thinking it was a passenger who had thrown himself overboard Patricia spends time trying to find ''Anna'', the name he had mentioned when he asked her to save Anna. She also had the piece of paper which had the number 2124 written on it with a couple of squiggles on the other side. The following day the ship, the Aurelia, docks at Tokyo and thus begins an incredible couple of days spent in Japan, meeting the Zanooza and the Yakasi, acting as an unwilling messenger between two brothers who are bigshots in the two different criminal gangs, rescuing Jermaine and a couple of retired Hawaiian cops she has become friendly with, making a new friend in a very helpful Tokyo taxi driver Hideki, assisting the Tokyo police to take down two big kingpins in the Tokyo underworld, persuading her errant and unwanted husband to agree to a divorce, rescuing the mysterious Anna and finally, managing - just - to make it back to the ship in time for the ship to sail, only slightly late. A novel packed full of action, humour, and conveying a sense of the frantic action as Patricia tries to save the mysterious Anna and find the equally mysterious Lion's Head that the Zanooza are so keen to find. Brilliant as always, completely un-put-downable (as my family will agree, dinner was late today thanks to the book) and I can't wait for book number five.
So, I'm finished with this series. As with the previous book, there's a lot of people -- Patricia as ringleader -- doing foolish things that get themselves in downright dangerous situations. She's lucky there are people around her willing to risk their own lives to rescue her from her foolishness. And I only got about a third of the way through the book!
The book starts with Patricia witnessing a suicide as a man jumps from the ship. She presses the man overboard button and the crew follows standard procedures, though he's long gone. But she can't let it rest. On the strength of a scrap of paper and a few words he said before jumping, she decides she has to do something to save "Anna" and it has something to do with the people staying in -- wait for it -- Cabin 2124.
And this is where she first gets into trouble and needs rescuing. She (with a couple other passengers and her friend Barbie) decides to follow these scary and rude pair as they leave the ship in Tokyo. They end up in a sketchy part of the city about to be kidnapped by a local criminal gang. Fortunately, the random Tokyo cab driver returns to save them. I mean, they were in SERIOUS danger here -- especially Barbie -- but that doesn't deter her from continuing to poke her nose where she has no business.
So, for me, it all went too silly too fast. Patricia has developed a serious case of "too stupid to live" and I'm over it. So a DNF for me, and the end of the series as far as I'm concerned.
The Couple in Cabin 2124 (Patricia Fisher Mysteries #4), my fourth read/listen from author Steve Higgs. Well written & enjoyable. Narrator Heather Tracy’s narration added to the book's listening enjoyment. This is perhaps the most enjoyable of a very enjoyable series, I look forward to reading more in this series & more from this author. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I just love Patricia Fisher! This book kept me laughing so hard I had to keep my hand over my mouth so not to wake everyone in the house up! From the first sentence this story grabs you. I couldn't put it down! All the hijinks this woman and her friends get into just keep me laughing to tears! Loved it!
My favorite one so far! Excellent story and it was so good to finally meet her yucky husband in person and see just how lucky she is that she got free:)
I was disappointed to see Barbie become bare again in this story but hey, it is written by a guy. Most cozies are written by women so I don't usually see this voyeuristic fixation on boobies. I hope it stops along the 20 book story-line.
Patricia witnesses a man jumping overboard and is determined to find out who he was and who the 'Anna' he requested to be kept safe is. Her husband shows up in her suite and immediately starts to bully and belittle her. What an asshat! In no time at all the group is mixed up in two Japanese brother's gang lord's petty rivalry, with their own lives at stake. Alistair is so cool and unflappable.
SAVE ANNA! The last words said to Patty as the man plunges to his death in the ship's wake. Thus Patty and her friends are engulfed into another mystery after she promised the Captain she wouldn't go sleuthing again. To further complicate her life Patty's husband has arrived to reclaim her!
This set of novels are quite intriguing and, at the same time, really funny and fun. The images created by the author in the various descriptions of the characters in various situations are quite real. It's hard to read while laughing hard enough to make a mess of oneself. Enjoy a great read.
The Couple in Cabin 2124 was another comical mystery with Patricia Fisher as its main character. She continues her detective work in Japan getting into unbelievable trouble but rescued, of course. Even though this sequel of books could be considered a bit samey, they are still fun and relaxing to read. You go Patty!!!
Another adventure for Mrs Fisher. I like the character but as stated before the Barbie character is too perfect and described in a blokey way. There was a laugh out loud moment in the lap dancing club.
This is the fourth book in A Patricia Fisher Mystery Series, a fun cozy murder mystery. Patricia's sleuthing is entertaining, fun, and captivating. Heather Tracy did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it.
I love the characters. They are charming. The stories keep the pages turning. However, I. Read cozy mysteries so I don't have to read sex and gore. Mr Higgs has pushed close and I resent his innuendos. I will leave Patricia now even though I enjoy her.
Patricia does seem to get into trouble regardless of what she does. This action packed mystery is full of twists and turns very enjoyable. Can't wait to start the next one.
A stop in Japan brings more harrowing adventures for Patty, Barbie and Jermaine. Caught up in a suicide and a passed note brings them into contact with Japanese criminals. Exciting reading!
Another step in patty’s cruise around the world solving crimes, murders etc. this is in Japan with 2 warring twin brothers heading big organized crime sections of Tokyo. Light weight but likable characters
Patricia Fisher takes on the Yakusa, or some similar gangs. Her husband shows up and I totally understand why Patricia needs to leave him behind. I am becoming comfortable with the characters and enjoying the situations that they have to survive. Recommended.
Enjoyed the trip from vague clues to happily ever after. Very imaginative, clever and humorous . Thought this would be my last one in this series, but now I’m still on board
This book was filled with so much adventure with Mrs. Fisher trying to find what the note meant and getting involved with two brothers in Tokyo and solving what the note meant. I am looking y to reading the next book.
Patricia, Jermaine and Barbie are pulled into the brother's gang warfare in Tokyo Before embarking at Tokyo Patricia witnesses a suicide and begins a search for Anna the only value the suicide wants back, and encounters more than she expected.
Couldn't put it down. Lost a lot of sleep the last few weeks, due to "can't put it down. " This one ,I think, is the best one. . . So much mystery, going so fast and the prize between two brothers was hilarious. But the prize to Patty was so endearing.
This is another one of those delightful stories of the meddling sleuth. Patricia gets herself into lots of trouble in this one and manages to solve a couple of crimes.
Despite the fact that Mrs. Fisher has a habit of focusing on the wrong person in the beginning it always works out in the end after many comical situations. Good book/series, highly recommend.
