Rate this book
Powerful vampire, Rose Foster, and her girlfriend, Kara Unnarsdóttir, take refuge in a hidden kingdom of vampires, as war breaks out between vampires and humans. Rose is shocked to find that even though she doesn’t know them, the vampires of this kingdom know her. Not only that, but they’re prepared to follow her into battle. Yet, they refuse to tell her why.

A world war rages on in their absence, threatening the extinction of both species. Rose soon realizes that, even though she doesn’t want power, if she wants to prevent genocide, she’ll have to take her place as a Commander of Power.

But when Kara uncovers a terrifying piece of information about Rose, she must decide, once and for all, if her loyalty to the woman she loves is strong enough to withstand even the end of the world. Or if it’s time to do what she does best: betrayal.

In this final installment of the Creatures of Darkness Series, the Eklektos will either save the world or destroy it.

Guys holy hell- you have to read this series. The main relationship is a lesbian relationship, I realize some people did not know this as the first book is heterosexual in nature but yeah that’s where it goes.

Such a good book, will literally be recommending to every single person who ask for paranormal recs. I’m a big fan of this author!!!!! So excited for her future works!

I can understand and appreciate how and why Jackson took her time writing the final book in the Creatures of Darkness series. After the loss of my own brother, and many years afterwards, it's still not something the young sister in me can completely heal from. The pain is there and has always been, I've only learnt to endure it. When I read this book though... wow, the feelings just come out of nowhere.

I love that Kara was there right beside Rose. That she had someone to help pull her from the darkness 'cause it's the hardest place to be. I know it's fiction, but stories have a way of giving one hope... even the paranormal ones.

“What if I told
I feel like I know you?
But we never met.”

I have no words to describe this book series or my feeling while reading it so I'll just say it: I love them SO MUCH my heart is going to EXPLODE. I don't read book series because I get bored so easily so I can't force myself to read 2+ books about the same character, same couple, same history (drakonwelles you're MY EXPECTIOOOOOOOOON.) but I knew this series was going to be different and I would like it as soon as i read the teasers Britney used to post. I guess everyone agrees with me when I say that when you read a books series about the same mc, you get attached to them, and with this one wasn't different. I love Rose so much and I see myself in her, she's the character with the sweetest soul to ever exist. #forevermynumberonenerd!
And with Kara wasn't any different. I completely love her personality, her story and how she made me LAUGH GIGGLE BLUSH AND KICK MY FEET at every scene of her. #forevermynumberonewarrior!
And them!!!!!!!!!!!! I love EVERYTHING about them and I knew I would but now they became one of my fav couples ever. I miss them already. 🥹🤍

What a phenomenal ending! I can’t think of anything in this book I didn’t like. Kara and Rose continue to be one of the best couples I’ve ever read! Their chemistry and sexual tension is always so good and they’re so good to each other. The plot twist was nicely done, really liked it. And again..Jackson addresses serious issues with supernatural in ways that make me feel so *seen*. The way Rose’s mental illness is addressed is touching. I cried many times. And Kara uplifted me as much as she uplifted Rose. The way Jackson addressed political issues gave me hope for our own world. It was all very emotional. This whole series was very immersive. It was like watching my favorite TV show..but with more diversity..and a sapphic couple that’s treated right for once. I recommend this series one thousand percent.

Great conclusion to a fantastic series. Rose endures so much and I loved that Kara was right there being so supportive and understanding. They have such an amazing dynamic. It was just so refreshing to read.

The end felt a tad rushed. All the loose ends were tied together nicely, but it felt like some of the details were sort of just glossed over. To be fair, I really did not want this book/series to end so I could be projecting a bit too.

It's over, and I am, indeed, a crying wreck.

Rose, Kara, and company are back for the final war between vampires and humans. Though it's not so much humanity as the Assassins of Light hate group, who have infiltrated governments and militaries worldwide. But after the first battle, Kara, Rose, Erik, and Elise are whisked away by a mysterious ancient princess to an even more mysterious island kingdom of vampires. Our heroes have have many questions, but answers come at a hefty price.

My friends, I devoured this book. Everything I liked about the series culminates in this final volume. I ate if for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Kara and Rose have many, many smooches, snarky comments, and steps to healing. The plot twists, the secondary characters delight, and the writing shines. It was a temptation to not highlight every fourth paragraph. As with book 3, Jackson holds a dark mirror up to our current political travails against the loud yam. The fact that there is a happy ending gave me much-needed hope.

I love this series. You've got to read it. Simple as that.

This book is amazing, the best of the series. To be honest,I don't like the character Kallias,so since the second half of book three,it became a much more enjoyable read for me.And along each book the writing is geting better and better, the plot is very refine in the end,and the writing of the fighting is getting better along the series. All in all,it is the best fantasy book I ever read for a long while.

As I reluctantly reach the end of Britney Jackson's "Reign of Darkness," I can't help but feel a pang of sadness at parting ways with Rose and Kara, lovers whose journey has left an indelible mark on my heart. Throughout the previous three books, Rose's self-doubt were bothersome, but this time, her struggles with depression hit close to home, making her journey all the more relatable.

This final installment of the series is a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with creativity, deep character moments, love, action, and everything in between. Witnessing the unwavering support and passion between Rose and Kara was enchanting. I also appreciated how Jackson didn't forget about Alana's storyline, seamlessly weaving it into the larger narrative. And don't even get me started on Elise and the new ancient vampires—they brought a whole new level of excitement and comedy to the story! I enjoyed the banter between Kara and princess Myrinne. I appreciated a female storyline (Princess Myrinne) that didn't require a romantic telling. It's not too often you read literature about royalty and find an absence of a counterpart ruling alongside them or someone needing to be present to give that person the illusion they were never going to tap into their power without them.

What really stood out to me was the way Jackson portrayed feminism by putting so many strong women in positions of power and allowing them to be vulnerable at the same time. It felt refreshing and real. And let's talk about representation—seeing all the queer relationships and diverse sexual identities among the vampire species was incredibly affirming. It was enjoyable to delve into a universe where the spectrum of sexuality was accepted and normalized across a majority of the species.

Moreover, Jackson did an incredible job building suspense and crafting the storyline. The smut scenes were beautiful, although I always craved more details—they were just that good! I am still dying to know the details of what happened on the beach between Rose and Kara!

In the end, "Reign of Darkness" isn't just a book—it's a journey into a world where love, acceptance, and empowerment reign supreme. It's also a beautiful telling of the complexities surrounding traumatic events and the corresponding mental health implications. Britney Jackson has crafted a finale that's both bittersweet and hopeful, leaving me wishing for another installment with Rose and Kara.

wonderful story, I fell in love with the characters and especially Kara and Rose, they have a beautiful love story and the author's writing makes you feel everything the characters feel, I went from being smiling to crying and that speaks Very well of the author's work, I do not regret anything about reading this series and I would like to forget it so that I can read it again but I will read it again and again anyway.

I recommend you read this story ... you will not regret it. 😊😊

Wow. My heart is so full. Rose and Kara have a beautiful relationship. And like I had a hard time picking the word to use because there are so many words I could call it. Theyre fun and inspiring and sexy and funny! But the respect and support they show each other is just so beautiful. I cried *so* much because the author’s writing makes you feel everything. I feel so empowered and inspired by this story and all the powerful characters in it. I will probably read this series so many times. Its a ride from start to finish!

This series had me hooked from the beginning, and now that I've finished it, I have to say that I absolutely loved it. Each book was better than the last, expanding on the world, revisiting older characters, and slowly developing the overall plot - because that was definitely there, and things may well be more connected than it seems at first glance.

All of the questions - the truth - was finally revealed in this book (though aspects of it have been hinted at through out the series, and some people may well work it out before it is revealed), along with some aspects that were a pleasant surprise. Things are still not easy for the characters, but this book has what you've come to expect from the series as it wraps up and comes to a satisfying conclusion (along with a HEA). I'd love to see some more of them, but as the (current) last book of the series, it concludes well, and anything else after this would probably have a different feel to it (for reasons that will be obvious by the end of the book).

Rose and Kara are an absolutely adorable pair, and I love their interactions, both with each other and the rest of the cast. They have all grown so much over the series. Rose has some awesome lines, and I found myself laughing at some of them. They really are great characters, and Rose and Kara are very much the heart of the series.

Great series, well worth the read, and one that I do highly recommend.

This was an absolutely, amazing, incredible end to such an amazing, incredible series! The question of Rose's powers and what she actually is is finally answered in this book. Rose gets even more sassy (is that even a surprise at this point?) and seems to get more confident in this one as well, which just makes it even better. Because girl power, you know? Kara is still trying seduce Rose, when she isn't threatening to dismember everyone who insults her. Secrets finally come out, romance blossoms and steams, and battles are wages throughout this epic installment. This last book in the Creatures of Darkness series will have you laughing, and crying, and wanting to scream with all the action, and romance, and horror. This is one of the best series I've ever read, and I really hope Jackson decides to revisit this story and these characters again.

Holy shit, this was such an unexpectedly amazing series! The world and story got me in the first book. But especially the characters, who had such strong and tangible voices, made this story an outstanding experience. Rose and Kara have definitely saved a spot for themselves between my favourite literary couples.

I love this book series with all my heart one of my favourite series ever. Rose and Kara's love story is incredible everyone who likes wlw needs to read it.
Rose and Kara's love story is breathtaking, powerful, funny, romantic, and so much more. As a Lesbian I'm really grateful I found this wlw love story because it's everything I've ever wanted in a wlw love story.
And I could never really explain it it's to incredible so if anyone reads this review go read the series you will see what I mean. It's a very powerful story Rose Foster is one of the best character's ever she's brilliant. And has one of the best character arcs ever. She has a lot of trauma and depression but that doesn't define her and she grows and starts to heal. And Kara helps Rose heal.
Rose and Kara's story is one I'll never forget.
Also queer vampires fiction is so rare. And it's written so well:).

The Dragon & the Wolf Defy Fate 🥹😭 I'm a WRECK.

Jackson's books have ruined all sapphic fantasy & supernatural romance for me. There's so much to unpack with how these vampires are portrayed, how and what they represent, the stone of Eklektos itself, Rose herself, Lightness/Darkness, the contrasts between Alana & Rose, the Skotalians... everythinggggg.

ALL the characters were written spectacularly. Erik, the cowardly Viking Warrior, holds a special place in my heart.

I have a newfound appreciation for fantasy & supernatural romance books, and I have Britney Jackson to thank (or blame) for that.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series - and started it while waiting for the Goddess of the Sea to be released - struggled to pace myself while not wanting it to end and crying now that it has.

Wow, just finished series ... what an incredible, beautiful journey; sitting here bummed that it has come to an end. The love, faith, intensity between Rose and Kara is just overwhelming, pulling so many emotions over the four books and so lucky to have stumbled on this story. And whenever I hear the words sassy, sexy, but most of all obviously, they will always trigger memories.

A series to binge-read

Even though I dislike cliffhangers, this series was entertaining and captivating, much like its main characters. So I recommend binge-reading. It's the only way to get to the satisfying end without waiting for the next book.

A Review for the whole Creatures of Darkness series. ( Spoilers for the first three books)
The Creatures of darkness saga by Brittney Jackson is one of the most poignant, bold, and exceptionally well-written book series there is.
It's a vampire series that
doesn't fall into annoying vampire tropes, it isn't cheesy or silly vampire fiction it's brilliant. The vampire mythology is unique and is used to tell compelling stories, there's some really important topics in it like healing from trauma and sub topics that come from that, and at its heart is a brilliant Sapphic love story that starts in book 2.
It's both funny and heartbreaking at once as are it's protagonists. It makes you really think about, love, life, and right and wrong. It does this through its characters, starting with Rose Foster a sarcastic, kind, and brave, individual who has been through more traumatic events than anyone should ever have to but still holds onto her compassion, through the series she learns the value of self-worth, and learning to not be afraid of parts of yourself you might not understand yet, as well as many other things. Rose suffers from lack of self worth , PTSD , and depression and this iis showed with sensitivity throughout the series. The way mental health is written in this series for all its characters is ground breaking.

There are lots of brilliant characters in this series but for the sake of this review not going on forever! I will touch on one other character, the eventual love of Rose's life: Kara Unnarsdottir, a character who turns Rose's world upside down in the best way and Rose does the same for her. The chemistry and the way they help each other heal is so beautiful. Kara is a confident, compassionate, flirty, and brave individual ( she's a vampire, born in the viking time) who carries a lot of hurt from her past that she tries to hide

It's impossible to completely explain why this series is so incredible, so what are you waiting for? Go read it!

Love the book series but would like Kara to be in book 1 & I think you should do a prequel where Kara save one of rose ancestor who had a vision told Kara that she meet somebody with red eyes & live in a forest but because of what she been through for 1400 years she don't remember until after the wedding cos then it be like it comes full cirlce?
